PleASe SupPort The OffiCIal RelEaSe (you know, IF WE HAD ONE IN THE WEST)
If you asked the students of Homurahara about the teenager named Shirou Emiya, most would say that he is a kind person, if a bit naive, with a talent for fixing electronics around the school when the Student Council Presitent, Issei Ryuudou, asked him to as a favor.
If you asked The Archery Club about Shirou Emiya, the whole group (with a glaring exception) would say that he was the best member they had in the last years, which is why him leaving the club surprised them quite a bit.
If you asked Sakura Matou about Shirou Emiya, she would tell you about the times he helped her in the past, about how he taught her how to cook western dishes and how to take better care of herself.
In short, Shirou Emiya, in the eyes of many, was a normal boy.
Ironic, considering his current situation.
Shirou slid on the floor and turned to his right, trying to outrun his current pursuer (and possible executioner) Rin Tohsaka.
If he was being honest, he did kind of expect this outcome, the possibility of Tohsaka attacking him on broad daylight was slim, but still surprising.
Just a few days ago, after his first night as a Master in the war, the girl was neutral, if a bit passive aggresive, but now she was trying to blow up his head with those Gandr things. At least she had the decency of waiting until every other student and teacher left the school before starting her murder attempts.
In the back of his mind, however, was the most important thing.
Mitsuzuri disappeared a few days ago.
And according to his History teacher, Kuzuki (who apparently lived with Issei in the temple, how curious) she was last seen with Shinji Matou.
The same Shinji Matou who hasn't been seen around the last few days.
He was worried, ever since he confronted Shinji a year ago (and the misterious death of his elderly grandfather) the boy had become reclusive, barely talking to anyone, he didn't even try to seduce more of his classmates, ignoring all of them.
Turning to his left, he entered his classroom, blocked the entrance with a table and ran towards his seat, taking out the Driver from his bag. Taking a deep breath, he listened to the steps in the hallway.
"Emiya", Tohsaka spoke, "I'll say it again, give up, stop hiding, AND GIVE ME YOUR HAND!"
Oh no, she was mad.
Taking a step backwards, he looked through the windows and down to the path leading to the entrance of the school.
His classroom was on the second floor, if he was careful, he could jump from the window and go to a more open area to avoid destroying the classrooms but-
"EMIYA!"
Well, here goes nothing.
He slammed the Driver into his waist, the System activating and creating the straps around his body, taking the black and white Stamp from the Holder at his left side, he pressed the button on top.
BAT!
"EMIYA WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE?!"
He jumped, at the same time, Tohsaka slammed the door open, breaking the table that blocking it.
"HENSHIN!"
CONFIRMED!
VERSUS UP!
PRECIOUS! TRUST US! JUSTICE! BAT!
From his shadow, dark bats appeared and surrounded his body, creating a black and cyan undersuit.
Silver boots covered his legs, with pads appearing for extra protection.
His shadow distorted, shining a bright white and creating a white armor and a helmet with an orange visor in the form of a bat, while his chest had the golden form of the same animal.
LIVE!
Landing on his feat, he looked up, finding Tohsaka looking at him surprised.
"Emiya-" a scream interrupted her.
It was close.
The System inside his belt started scanning the area, trying to find the source of the scream.
LOCKED ON!
Why was Karizaki-san so obsessed with these ridiculous announcements?
He found his target, laying down under the canopy near the entrance of the school.
He ran towards her, ignoring Tohsaka yelling at him.
Crouching down and touching her neck slightly, he found a pulse.
She was unconcious, but just to be sure, he ordered the System to start scanning her body for any kind of injury.
He looked at his right, finding Tohsaka walking slowly towards him.
With his voice slightly distorted by his helmet, he spoke.
"She's unconcious, but i don't know if she has any kind of injury yet"
Tohsaka got closer, taking a good look at the girl.
She wasn't a classmate, she looked younger than both of them, probably a first year.
She crouched down, trying to-
"Tohsaka, wait a moment"
She looked at the armored form of her enemy.
"You noticed too right?" she spoke slowly "She barely has any blood left, she was drained"
"Yes, her pulse is faster than it normally should, her body is getting colder too" the System in the armor had given him the information, the girl wasn't in mortal danger yet, so he had to get her to the hospital fast in order to replenish her blood. He ordered the system to call and ambulance, but before the connection was established, the sensors alerted him.
Taking out his Livegun from the belt, he shot the projectile coming towards them before it hit them.
"Wha-"
"Tohsaka, there's an enemy here!"
He stood in front of his classmates, aiming his weapon towards the small forest outside the school.
If a Spirit was here, then he needed to get both of them out of before beginning the fight, but the projectile from earlier was fast, he couldn't carry the unconcious girl and cover Tohsaka at the same time.
"Tohsaka, listen"
The girl looked at him.
"Take her and get out of the school, call Archer if you have to, there's something in the forest and i have to find it"
"Are you crazy?!" Tohsaka yelled "That could be a Servant! You're going to get yourself killed! How about YOU call Saber here?!"
"That is not a Servant"
Tohsaka went silent.
"And how do you know that?" her tone was hard, but at least she wasn't yelling anymore.
He wondered if Karizaki-san was going to be mad at him, before remembering that the man would probably explain how the entire System functioned if someone asked him.
"….My helmet has sensors, the enemy in the forest has different readings compared to Saber and Archer. That's not a Servant, but a Spirit"
"So a Wraith then" she wasn't equipped to deal with those, so if the enemy really was a Wraith, Kotomine would have to deal with it later.
"No, a Spirit, they're slightly different, i'll explain later. But you have to take her to the hospital now"
Keeping his sights on the forest, he walked slowly towards it.
"And you think that Mystic Code of yours can purify the Spirit?" She questioned
"This isn't the first time i've done it, now go"
He ran into the forest.
The Magus looked at his back, annoyed at his dismissal before lifting up the girl and running, calling Archer through their mental link.
In the forest
The silence of the forest was broken by his steps, his gun raised.
The System had found a trail of energy, which meant the Spirit was close.
The Aiming Mode of his helmet was scanning the area, trying to find a target to shoot.
He was getting anxious, the last "Spirit Hunt" (Karizaki-san was the one to name their operations) was a few weeks ago, and the lack of sightings, Mitsuzuri's disappearance and the War was stressing him.
At least Sakura was happy, Fuji-Nee had let her stay a few days in his house, she called it "a super ultra deluxe sleepover!" (she was spending too much time with Karizaki-san).
Since her Grandfather died, Sakura had gained a new light in her eyes, she smiled and laughed a lot more, which led him to believe her gloomy, depressed exterior had something to do with her Grandfather.
How could her family treat hear like that?
Didn't they realize the blessing of family ties?
A woman with red hair and a kind smile welcomed him home, a man with bright, almost golden eyes lifted him up in a hug, they spoke of how proud they were of him, of a bright future as family.
then fire, smoke, broken glass, a house falling down, suffering and death around him as he walked
a darksunburninginthesky
Shirou took a deep breath, trying to steady his shaking hand.
This wasn't the time for that.
The sound of chains made him stop, the System alerted him of danger.
Instincs kicked in and he ducked, avoiding a nail to the head.
Rolling to his left, he shot at his enemy, who dodged out of the way.
It was a purple haired woman, a blindfold covered her eyes, she was wearing a tight, short black dress with pink accents, in her hands two oversized nails connected by chains.
She looked (?) at him for a moment, tilting her head to the side, sizing him up.
This wasn't a Spirit.
She was a Servant.
Steeling himself, Live stood up slowly, his weapon still aiming at the woman.
"...Is it too late to ask for you to surrender?"
The woman laughed softly.
"Is it too late to ask you to leave this place, boy?"
"A bit, yes" he answered, "Did you attack that girl?" mentally, he tried to contact Saber, telling her to come to the forest as soon as she could.
The Servant stood silent.
Was he supposed to take that as a yes then?
Making sure to not move his head, he looked around, trying to find cover to make a quick exit.
The Live System was better used at long range, while the armor had the defensive capabilites to take hits and minimize damage to the user, it's only form of attack was the Livegun.
What was Karizaki-san thinking, making the System like that?
Steps interrupted his thoughts, the System recognizing-
Sakura?!
The purple haired girl was walking towards them, dragging something.
No, not someting, rather someone.
She was dragging Shinji, like a dog would drag a bag of trash around.
"Rider". The girl spoke.
The System filed the image of the Servant under the name Rider, saving it alongside the Saber and Archer files.
"..Senpai"
Oh shit.
"...Sakura, what are you doing here? How do you know her? How did you-"
The girl looked at him.
"I've known for a while, Karizaki-san told me"
Goddammit, what happened to the secret "identity thing", Karizaki-san?
"And, well…." Sakura went silent for a few seconds, "I was the one who summoned Rider"
What?
"...So you're her Master then" he hoped none of them heard how his voice broke a bit.
The girl looked at the ground, ashamed.
"...Yes"
Taking a deep breath, he spoke, as serious as he could.
"...Did you order her attack that student?"
Sakura answered, yelling at him.
"No! No!, that was…."
She looked behind her at her brother.
"...It was him"
Shinji..?
"Sakura, be honest with me, did he attack Mitsuzuri?"
Sakura nodded slowly.
If he didn't have his helmet, they would see how ashamed he was.
Shinji wasn't his friend, he hasn't been for a while, but he never thought his old friend would do something like this.
Why? Why did he attack Mitsuzuri? A grudge, maybe? Did he get angry at her during practice in the archery range? Or was it something else?
But that also leaves the question of how.
How did he do it? An ambush after school? With no witnesses?
Unless…
He looked at Rider, who seemed to notice his thoughts.
"He ordered me to use the girl as a way to replenish my energy"
"You mean the girl at school? Or Mitsuzuri?"
"Both"
"…Isn't Sakura your Master? Why did you do it?!"
"No, Senpai" Sakura's voice made him look at her.
"I was the one who summoned Rider, but i gave her to Nii-san before the war started"
Her voice was full of regret.
"I didn't want to enter the war, but when the command seals appeared, he wanted to be one to fight" she continued "After i summoned, i transfered control over her to him, but i never tought he would do something like this"
Please don't be angry at me, please don't leave me
The area was silent.
"I believe you"
He got closer to her, slowly, a bit afraid that Rider would consider it a threat and try to attack him.
"You're not a bad person Sakura, i know you wouldn't do something like this on purpose"
Sakura took a deep breath, relieved.
Shirou continued.
"But where is she? Where is Mitsuzuri? Is she alright?"
"We took her to the hospital a few hours ago, we called her family, we told them we found her in the park unconcious."
Rider spoke, walking up to them.
Shirou nodded, his gaze now directed at Shinji.
"What about him? Are you going to tell the police about what he did?"
Sakura stood silent for a few seconds, before giving a slow nod.
"He hurt them, he hurt innocent people for no reason. That's why you fight, right Senpai? To stop this from happening?"
He nodded.
He ordered the System to call Karizaki-san, inviting him for dinner.
They needed to talk for a bit.
"Hm?"
"Rider? Is something wrong?" Sakura questioned.
The Servant pointed behind him, he turned.
The System alerted him, his target was here.
It was a humanoid figure, his head vaguely resembled that of a canine, a dog maybe.
It's body was covered in brown fur, long arms ending in large paws, with three fingers each.
His chest and legs were covered in rusty armor,
A Spirit.
According to what Karizaki-san told him, Spirits were ghosts, memories of the past trapped in a limbo between spiritual and phisical form after absorbing large quantities of energy.
By themselves, they weren't dangerous, normal people would feel cold when close to one, but the Lesser Spirits couldn't touch them, much less hurt them.
The problem began when they absorbed even more energy, slowly regaining a body and becoming more and more aggresive, looking for more energy to absorb.
Which is when they start hunting down people, to absorb their life force.
That's when he, and the System, came in.
The System was made especifically to fight Spirits, using the data collected from different species of animals from around the planet, extracting their DNA and fusing it with the energy of a destroyed Spirit, allowing the Live System to fight them on equal footing.
Basically, "Technology, human intellect and nature becoming one!" according to Karizaki-san.
The Spirit was looking around, sniffing the air.
Maybe it was blind? They were almost in fron of it, but it hasn't tried to attack.
Raising the Livegun, he shot the Spirit in the head.
Sorry Chewbacca
The Spirit let out a cry, a mix between a child yelping in pain and a dog barking, holding his head in pain.
Shirou looked away, he felt terrible about doing that
The Spirit hasn't fully "matured", meaning it needed more energy to reach it's physical form.
This felt like putting down the Old Yeller
Putting back his gun into his belt, he pressed the trigger once.
BAT!
Energy filled the gun.
Drawing it again, he aimed at the Spirit and pressed the trigger again.
JUSTICE FINISH!
The supercharged shot struck the Spirit, a bright light illuminated the forest for a split second.
The Spirit was destroyed instantly.
The System filled a report, sending it to Karizaki-san's computer in his lab, marking it as another Spirit destroyed under the "Pet" designation, alongside the Cat, Turtle and Monkey Spirits.
Who keeps a monkey as a pet in Japan? (1)
Just in time, as Saber arrived.
"SHIROU!"
Saber stopped in her tracks, looking at the scene in front of her.
Her Master, with another Master and Servant, an unconcious boy and a burning spot a few meters away from them.
"Shirou, mind explaining what happened here?"
Her tone was harsh
Shirou put his gun back in his belt and tapped the symbol in it.
The Armor and the Belt disappeared, going back to the portable charging station inside his bag.
He forgot to leave it charging last night.
"Well…. It's a long story" he spoke, a bit embarrased.
"I'll explain in the way home"
Saber looked at him in the eyes, making him even more nervous.
"And your new…. Friends?"
Shirou looked at Sakura, before speaking.
"Sakura, i know you said you didn't want to fight in the war, but-"
"I understand, i dont' want to fight, i want to stay away from all of this"
She looked down for a second, before rising her head and looking at him, fire in her eyes.
"But i can't let something like this happen anymore, i don't think i could live with myself if i let innocent bystanders get hurt in this war, so please, let's fight together, Senpai".
Shirou nodded happily, before remembering something.
"What about you, Rider? Don't you have a wish?
The Servant of the mount shook her head.
"Not anymore"
He looked at her for a second too long, making Sakura's eye twitch.
"Alright then, i suppose we're allies now!"
Saber looked at him, unimpressed.
"Shirou, why did you come here alone? Why didn't you wait for me? Do you have any idea how stupid that was?!"
Surprised, Shirou apologized.
"I'm sorry Saber, i's just...well i'm used to fight alone, you know? Usually the Spirits aren't so dangerous, besides, i couldn't just leave it alone you know?! What if Rider went after someone else?!"
Wincing a bit, he looked at rider.
"….No offense"
"None taken"
Saber let out a sigh.
"I understand that Shirou, but please do not do it again, we are partners in the war now, next time something like this happens call me inmediately".
Shirou nodded, a bit relieved.
"It's getting late, it's almost time for dinner"
That relief took the Livegun and shot itself in the head.
He was supposed to buy the groceries on the way home for dinner.
Maybe if they were quick they'll find a store open.
"Then it's time to leave"
He looked at his new allies
"Sakura, what do you want for dinner?"
The new team made their way out of the forest, with Saber back in her white and blue suit and Rider returning to spirit form.
A few kilometers away, Archer's eyes were on the red head of the group.
The cold feeling in his chest was back, and he didn't like it.
Hello again!
I hope you like this chapter, i had to rewrite it a few times until i liked it.
In my original draft, Shinji was going to appear in the forest alongside Rider, then Sakura would come and confess everything, which made Shirou fight Rider for a bit until Shinji decided to run away.
I didn't like it, mainly because this would be Shirou's first time fighting a Servant, and he doesn't think that the Live System is enough to fight them one on one.
His first impression of a fight between Servants was Saber and Berserker, followed by a mini nuke by Archer, which doesn't give him a lot of hope.
One of the themes i'll try to keep during this story is that of Family.
During the Fate route, Shirou remembers his mother for a bit.
That gave me the idea of making his parents a bit more relevant during the story, he remembers them, how they looked like, how they treated him and each other, and how happy they used to be, but he DOESN'T like remembering that, because it always leads him back to reliving the fire, which sometimes leads to small panic attacks.
Not to throw shit at Kerry, but, if we're being honest, he wasn't that good of a father.
Yes, i know, that's an understatement.
He would leave for months at the time trying to rescue Illya, leaving Shirou with Taiga and the Fujimuras, only to return in a worse state.
This, obviously, leaves Shirou with the desire of a family, which clashes with his survivor's guilt.
Now don't get me wrong, i'm not saying Kiritsugu was a horrible father either, he tried, but unfortunately it wasn't enough.
It's because of this that Shirou ended his friendship with Shinji, with Sakura's behavior worrying him, he confronted him and confessed to hit her.
Also yes, Zouken is dead, guess who did that wink wink
With Zouken dead, a Shinji that basically ignores her, and almost living in Shirou's house, Sakura is much happier. Does that mean that Dark Sakura won't appear? It's too early to tell.
Also sorry for sidelining Rin this chapter lmao
I should've mentioned this last chapter, but i'm working with the UBW route as a base, and i feel that adding HF elements would clash with the story i want to tell, that being of the conflict between Shirou and Angra.
One of my favorite aspects of Revice was how the inner demons were characterized.
Lovekov, for example, is always being protected by others, clashing with Sakura's desire to not depend on her siblings.
Kagerou represents the dark emotions Daiji feels towards Ikki, while Vice is always trying to be the center of attention, contrasting with Ikki, who thinks of himself as someone not so important.
I'll try to do something like this with Angra and Shirou, as of right now, Angra barely has a conciousness, acting more on instinct and desires, but, like the Spirits, he is slowly gaining more power and obtaining a mind of his own by absorbing Sakura's energy.
My plan so far is Angra being more like an Anti Hero (of justice), make him aggresive during his fights, but still wanting to save people (like Shirou).
Another thing, i want to keep the characters as faithful to the VN as i can, but with George here… well
Let's just say that he made Shirou watch movie marathons with him, which is where the movie references come from.
I want George to be a positive influence on Shirou and others. I'll be honest, Juuga looks amazing, but i never liked the George of those last episodes. So don't expect him to turn into an antagonist here, just the crazy uncle that wants to help his nephew.
Again, thank you all for reading this story, i didn't expect it to be liked that much and i was kind of nervous after i published it a few days ago, but i'm glad you all liked it!
(1) Never forget that Pekora bought a FUCKING Monkey
ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION THE GRAFFITI BAT IN EVIL'S DESIGN LAST CHAPTER SO PLEASE PRETEND IT WAS TOO DARK TO SEE THEM PLEASE AAAAAAAAAAAA-
