Chapter 3:
Thus, the Mortal spoke
"Greetings, hero of humanity, I welcome you to my humble abode."
Her voice was pleasantly sweet and captivating, his disarray thoughts were free of malice, she was as innocent as a snowflake. The unknown figure sitting on the bergère chair, shrouded in golden hue, motioned with her right hand to the vacant seat opposite her.
"Come and join me."
Despite her friendly demeanour, the being had the appearance of someone deserted and betrayed. The figure frowned as she noticed him still on his toes, unbothered by her invitation and possibly even ignoring her.
Kent was on high alert, without a doubt; this being...or whatever she is possesses unfathomable power, and unlike the Herrscher of the End, he failed to recognize the extent of her power.
Comparing them is like comparing a droplet of water in open sea water.
The unknown figure hummed a tone, a beautiful melody that vibrated in his ears, snapping him out of his reverie. The man made his decision and accepted her invitation.
Kent walked forward, cautious with each step and anxiously watching her out of the corner of his eyes.
She lifted her cup and drank the sweet liquid inside, enjoying the taste while ignoring the agitated human and, in fact, enjoying the treatment she received. When she noticed him sitting down, she placed the cup on the table and offered him a drink, while the teapot hovered to his opposite end, waiting for his responses.
"Tea or coffee?"
Kent hummed in thought before answering her question.
"Coke."
She arched her brow before the teapot tilting downward and pouring black liquid into the empty cup.
With them sitting so close together, the mortal could see more of her face.
The golden hue that shrouded her was like a veil that concealed her beauty from the world, she was breath-taking with her lips as red as spilled ketchup on a white tablecloth. The figure has a voluptuous figure with silver hair resting on her shoulder, and she is dressed in white garments glittering with gold. Her golden eyes twinkled with delight as she noticed he was taking notes on her appearance.
"Enjoying yourself?" She teased with a smirk, but he found none of it pleasurable.
He returned her gaze with composure and asked her his question.
"Who or what are you exactly?"
The being hummed in thought, finding it entertaining that these monkeys kept asking her the same questions, regardless of the era.
"I am God."
Kent raised an eyebrow and folded his arms beneath his chest, his face dissatisfied, and he snorted.
"Bullshit." Sneered the mortal at her, refusing to acknowledge her answer; the being found her lips twitching at his reaction and considered it as disrespectful.
Nonetheless, she stayed quiet as she waited to hear the mortal to complete his sentence.
"You are not God; there are no records of your existence in any religion on Earth, and there are no murals that show humanity worshiping you. I'm calling you a liar right now."
The Deity glanced him in the eyes, and he returned her gaze without fear. The silence between them had become unbearable, and she had finally opened her mouth.
Kent braced himself for an outburst, but instead she was thrilled, and her sweet laughter filled the room, perplexing him once more.
"All right, then, you can think of me however you want." She giggled, clasping her hands together and smiling at him. "Be it a fraud, a Goddess...but for now, you should address me as the Will of Houkai," she said, her smile never leaving her face.
He was the first mortal who did not fear her or intimidated by her presence...
How intriguing.
"To think you were my last obstacle..." she sighed in disbelief, her sweet and kind smile fading away, turning into a frown, anger raging inside her head. Tick marks appeared on the back of her head, and the Deity clenched her right hand into a fist before slamming the table hard. He could see the frustration getting the best of her as the table cracked, splinters flying everywhere, scattering on the ground, and the cups on it tumbled over to the side, spilled and wasted.
"I was so close to annihilating humanity." She mumbled in disappointment.
Kent smirked.
Yes, he was wary.
But for the time being, seeing that he could elicit such a response from a being like her gave him a thrill.
The man then cleared his throat, mocking her and displaying his lack of respect.
"You can keep trying," he said, nodding. "But as the obstacles become more difficult, humanity grows stronger. It has been proven throughout history of mankind."
"That's why I've come to present you with an offer." The Deity started to completely captivate his attention. "I applauded you on your victory, but as things stand, even the Earth you guarded will crumbled. Because you were careless, the battle that lasted more than millennia shattered the universe. At this point, everything will be wiped out."
He arched his brow.
"Isn't that what you want? Humanity's annihilation? In fact, what I did may have been a noble act that will aid you in your grand plan."
"Hmm, not quite." She paused in the middle of her sentence, a sad smile on her face. "You appear to know nothing about the Honkai."
"What?" He frowns in response.
"You may know little to nothing, mortal; it's not as simple as you thought." She admitted and crossed her arms beneath her ample breasts. "For the time being, let's concentrate on why we're here."
He was curious, but she was right.
It's not the right time.
For now, he will listen to her and see what kind of offer she is willing to make.
"That's fine with me." He nodded his head, folded his arms beneath his chest, and motioned his right hand to her. "Speak now."
Before making a statement, the Goddess couldn't help but chuckle.
"You've come here to reverse time."
Kent raised an eyebrow at her statement, averting his gaze away and retorted.
"I'm not sure what that means."
The Deity could have shown him love and compassion, but one fact remained: this being was the reason Honkai continued to ravage the Earth. As a result, he comes to the conclusion that she cannot be trusted, which is why he lied.
"Pfft."
Even with her presence, the God of Honkai snorted at the mortal who dared to lie in front of her.
That's hilarious.
"There's no reason for you to lie, Hero of Humanity; I can see everything." She stated casually.
"Let's just assume you were correct." He began with his eyes narrowed at her. "So, what does it mean to you?"
"To go back in time, you must bear the consequences. You cannot defy or change your fate. Kent, your era has come to an end. You will lose everything once the wheel of fate is shifted to the other side."
The mortal clenched his teeth and chuckled in a challenging tone.
"Is that it?"
The Goddess hummed, her lips widening into a smirk.
"No, there's more." She continues, golden light shrouded their vision, and the broken table was restored. The Deity then leaned forward and rested her chin on the palm of her right hand, staring at him. "I know what you want; I can see it in the depths of your heart. It's not just time travel; you strive for it, but you know you lack the power to achieve."
Kent twitched his lips and raised an eyebrow. The mortal opened his mouth, but her majestic voice cut him off.
"Time is eternal, and nothing will corrode from here on out. Even if you could turn back time, the past would always follow you. All you became was a fragment, and the eternal time will swallow everything. Your past will be buried by the sands of time, forgotten by those for whom you care. Kent, your current Era has come to an end."
"However, I can assist you in re-creating that past." She smiled, leaning back in her chair and looking him in the eyes. The Goddess extended her right hand, palm facing him. "To avoid the consequences and bring everyone you love and care about back into your life. To usher in a new era devoid of wars, pain, and betrayals..." Her voice lingered in the air, filled with kindness and affection. She looks at him, her eyes longing. "Without the Honkai."
Under her gaze, the mortal was rendered speechless.
Kent considered it; a world without war, suffering, or the Houkai themselves would be a paradise long desired by the Flame-Chasers.
'No, not just us...but the entire world.' He reflected solemnly.
He paused for a moment before asking.
"This…isn't a joke, right?"
The Houkai Goddess hummed before nodding her head.
"It's an offer I can only give to you."
"Why?"
The Goddess closed her eyes, then reopened them, a satisfied expression on her face.
"It's nerve-racking, but humanity has proven...that they're better, and have survived the calamities time and time again."
Kent remained deafeningly silent.
A gentle breeze broke him out of his reverie and drew his attention away from his doubts. He could see golden energy gather in her palm, free of corruption or malice, and it even put him at ease; it was soothing and calming, illuminating his surroundings with its brilliance, and for a moment he saw nothing but her act of kindness.
The Imaginary tree behind her was bathed in her power, a breathtaking radiance creating a tunnel-vision that caused him to marvel at the beauty and was too stunned to speak. For the first time, their everlasting of white-empty space changed and everything gained colours.
The Goddess had created an illusion, a world that existed only for him; she showed him everything from the beginning to the end, and he could feel the love she showered on him. Her adoration and love were genuine, and he couldn't help but fall for it.
He was dumbstruck, like a mouse caught in a trap. From his mindscape, the Herrscher of the End realized the mortal had been enchanted by Goddess.
Just like she used to be.
He was so enthralled in his thoughts that the mortal didn't even notice she was approaching him.
"What do you think, Kent?" she asked huskily, whispering the question right into his ear while gently caressing his cheek and patiently waiting for him to respond.
"Don't be deceived by her lies!"
Kent's eyes widened as he realized the Herrscher was correct.
"How cunning."
He acknowledged the Goddess's ploy, glaring at the Deity from the corner of his eyes. The mortal could feel her arms enveloping him as saw her rested her head on his shoulder.
"Oh my?" The goddess pondered aloud, bemused. "I was wondering what changed your mind?"
"Everything you showed me are just fantasies that will never come true. A pristine world with lies and deceitful. A ruse to keep me under your control."
The Goddess hummed, amused.
"Oh, my Kent…Did that child get involved in our negotiations?" She groaned in displeasure and then laughed.
"A great actor, that's what you are." Kent growled in anger. "Even if everything became a reality…I will forever be under your control and trapped within your realm of dreams and illusions."
The Deity smirked.
"It appears that you misunderstand me and continue to refuse to trust me." She sighed in disappointment as she became engrossed in her own train of thought while pondering it.
Silence reigned in the realm of nothingness until she came up with another idea.
"Then..." She drifted off, carefully considering her next words to complete her sentence. She proceeded with thrill, having made up her mind. "Work under me."
The space was filled with a pregnant silence.
He was at a loss for words, and she sensed it.
The Deity laughed and walked back to her seat, retracting both arms.
"Become solely mine, and I will give you everything you desire." The Goddess stated as she presented him with her second offer.
Instead of a world of illusion, the Deity flicked her fingers, and a second later golden light danced around her, enveloping her body like a cocoon, and he saw her form slowly changing. Her body changed shape, losing a few inches and gaining some fat in the right places. Her silver hair is regaining colour, turning rosy. Her human-like ears grew longer, and her golden eyes turned light sapphire. The robe she was wearing changed into a battlesuit he recognized, and the gold veil that had protected her vanished.
"Oh my, Kent?" A familiar feminine voice began to speak, and he looked at the Deity with rage. "Mmm? What's up with that expression? Do you miss me?" The pinkette greeted with an alluring smile on her face.
The Goddess giggled as she rested her hands on her waists.
"Do you see what I'm saying? I can exactly become someone you love and recreate them the way you want, but in exchange, you will become my trump card in the next era. You the Hero of Humanity will become my champion and help me to fight humanity alongside me." She began with a smile, but her smile faded when she noticed the air around him thickening, dark clouds hovering above them, and chains of lightning flashing, then the sound of thunder growled reverberated in her ears, and she noticed his face turn sour.
Elysia…
He clenched his teeth and tried to suppress his rage. But the mere thought of the Deity impersonating her right in front of his face is...unacceptable.
"Don't tarnish her image in front of me!" Enraged, he exploded at her.
"Oh my…to think you value her so highly. How irritating you humans are." She spit out her disgust. "I was being generous when I gave you two chances to create the world you desire and a new era of humanity, not as a puppet but as my champion... Despite this, you refused me and humiliated me for being generous. I'm guessing you want to live with the fact that you didn't save them all. Isn't that right, Hero of Humanity!?"
"Enough!" He snarled, kicking the table in her face, which the Goddess easily destroyed. The Goddess stare at him, gone was her kind demeanour instead she was filled with anger mixed with the thrill for battle.
He could have walked away with ease, regaining everything he had lost.
But this is the path he sought; if that's the case, so be it.
"How stupid." She lamented that nothing seems to get through his thick skull. "Negotiations are over, mortal."
Humanity...should simply cease to exist.
The outcome will be as clear as day, and when he falls, she will be free to do whatever she wants with her most beloved treasured prize.
The mortal could feel the air tensing around them, the eternal empty-white space beginning to take on colour, the pristine of innocence clashing for dominance with the stygian. Black clouds of malice gather above them, with chains of lightning flashing and dancing in the air. Thunder rumbled nearby, illuminating the darkness with its brilliant gold.
The two stood across from each other, completely silent.
One was looking with a calculated gaze, while the other was disappointed. The Goddess of Honkai was taken aback when she noticed the same golden hue encircling his body. His eyes changed to gold with a starry pattern, and a halo appeared above his head. The same energy concealed him like a cloak, and ethereal wings swayed gently behind him.
"You crazy bastard, even I wouldn't dare to fight her." Kiana remarked within him, but the mortal ignored her and fixed his gaze on the Goddess of Honkai.
"On behalf of humanity, I, Kent challenges you!"
With a gentle laugh, she accepted his challenge.
"Come then, Hero!"
