Chapter 1: A not so great New Year

It was 11:58 p.m. in San Francisco. everyone was ready to celebrate New Year's Eve and start 2014. Meanwhile at shelter 17, Lucky, Cookie, Squirt, Strudel, Niblet, Rebound, Cupcake, and Patches were very excited to celebrate this very special time. "It's almost time, when the clock reaches midnight, be ready!" Lucky said. "Got it!" Said everyone. "Also, when we're done, we go back to our owners, okay?" Lucky said. "Yes sir!" Said everyone again. Cookie walked up to Lucky. "Everything okay?" Cookie asked. "Yeah, we made a lot of memories this year. I'm ready for new memories!" He said enthusiastically. Lucky frowned a little bit as they both went outside. "Is everything okay Lucky?" Cookie asked. "I'm fine. it's just that, ever since I started talking to Dot, I always wondered, if I talked to her parents also, I might make them go insane or worse." Lucky said. "Don't worry Lucky, just focus on the good for now and we'll talk about later." Cookie reassured him. "Okay." He spoke. As the clock struck midnight, everyone cheered and danced happily as the new year came. They thought the new year was going to be the best year ever.

10 Minutes later...

Lucky went home to rest after a long and busy day. Dot came outside to welcome him. "Happy new year Mister Chewy McFluffster!" Dot said happily. She hugged and kissed him. "Happy new year dot, let's get some shuteye for another busy day ahead of us." Lucky said while tired and sleepy. The two went inside and went to bed in their room and fell asleep instantly.

The next morning...

"Dot, come downstairs! Breakfast is ready!" Mrs. Henderson Called. "Coming!" She spoke. She woke up Lucky and they both went downstairs into the kitchen.

after breakfast...

"Dot, may we to talk about something." Mrs. Henderson said "Sure. what is it mom?" Dot said Anxiously. "Can we talk about your dog, honey." She spoke. dot and lucky looked at each other for a little bit. "Sure. What about him?" Dot asked curiously. Lucky looked scared as he feared the worst. "So, has Mister Chewy McFluffster been okay lately?" she asked. "Why?" she asked. "Well, he's been gone at times, and acting strange, and we want to know where he's going and what's going on." Mrs. Henderson asked politely. Lucky and dot looked at each other and back at dot's parents. "Well, here's the truth, you see-."

Before dot could finish her sentence, the living room TV immediately turned on with some breaking news. "We'll finish talking later, but right now, let's check the news and see what's happening." Mr. Henderson said. The family gathered in the living room to hear the news. "Hello, if you are watching this emergency broadcast, then something is happening to our beloved city, and possibly, the world." Said the news reporter. "Moments ago, 3 people were turned into robots, then 6 more, then 8 more, then 9 more, and so on." He spoke. " Innocent people are being turned into cold and heartless robots, we don't know what's behind this, but last night at 3:55 in the morning, a mysterious blimp appeared out of nowhere in the sky. We are not sure if the world is ending or being invaded, but all we can do is hope." Said the news reporter. "Please evacuate the city." He said before the TV turned into static and eventually shut down. "We need to go, now!" Lucky said. But he soon realized that he spoke in front of Dot's Parents. The two's eyes widened. "Did our dog, just talk?!" Said Mr. Henderson shocked. Lucky heard screaming outside and he knew he had to save his friends and family. "Follow me!" Lucky said. Lucky sprinted to one of the secret underground Pound Puppy tunnels in their backyard.

"This way!" Lucky commanded. He jumped into one of the tunnels. He widened the tunnel, so it could be big enough for the Henderson's to fit in. they followed lucky to the shelter 17 H.Q. Once they got there, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson were shocked to see underground base made completely by Dogs. Cookie saw Lucky and ran to him. "Lucky, we have to-." Before she could continue, she noticed the Henderson's. "Wait. Are those? did you tell them our secret?!" Cookie said while confused and shocked. "No time explain, we must leave! We have to go now!" Lucky exclaimed. They all followed him out of the underground base and back to the surface. they all followed Lucky, who was trying to leave San Francisco. They looked behind as they watched Innocent people and animals being turned into robots.

1 hour later...

The gang made it out alive but had lost everything and everyone they knew. They went into a far and wide forest area a long way from San Francisco for temporary shelter. Lucky explained everything that happened to dots parents, who were still shocked and in fear. "So, you dogs can talk and have been talking to dot ever since you meet her?" He asked. Lucky and the others nodded. "I finally understand why you didn't want us find out he talks." He said to dot. "You were afraid we would go insane or worse." He spoke. "Yeah." Dot said quietly. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson hugged dot while she frowned. Lucky felt bad for his family losing their new home. The New Year was supposed to go smoothly, but instead, it led to destruction and chaos. Lucky shed a few tears and his friends noticed it. "Lucky's crying, I never seen him cry before." Cookie said. "I thought lucky never cried once in his life." Squirt said. More tears ran down his cheek. Niblet, and the super-secret pup club looked at each other feeling bad for Lucky, especially what had happened today. "He's letting out all his emotions out." Strudel said. Lucky began to sob softly. Dot noticed lucky crying and embraced him. The dogs hugged him as he continued to cry his emotions out. Eventually, he stopped and began wonder in his mind. "Is this the end?" He wondered.
