Jasper knocked on Eric's door and Eric opened it, shirtless, which is how Eric stayed when he was in his room. "Um."

"Come in." Eric said and closed the door after Jasper stepped inside.

Jasper turned and looked at Eric. "Bella said you guys are okay now."

"We are. Are you okay?"

Jasper ran a hand through his hair. "To be honest, I'm just… she almost died Eric."

"I know." Eric said, swallowing.

Jasper studied Eric. "I'm not in love with Bella. I wanted you to know that."

"You care about her."

"I do. She's my best friend here. She's exceptional at everything she does."

"She is everything Dauntless is." Eric agreed.

There was some silence between them now and Jasper finally said something. "You were gone yesterday. She was worried."

"I told her where I was yesterday." Eric said, going over to a small fridge in his room and opened it, taking a beer out and handed one to Jasper.

Jasper took it and then leaned against the dresser, relaxing as he opened the beer. "You told her everything?"

"Yeah. Everything that was important." Eric said. "How about you? You going to tell her that you're Divergent?"

"I will. When the time comes. Training today you were pissy. You really pushed Al." Jasper said and took a drink of his beer.

Eric sighed and sat on the bed, taking a drink of his own beer. "Well, he has to do something. I can't carry him above that line. He has to keep working at it."

"I know. I told him to get his shit together. When Bella came to talk to you, Al came to me while I was showering." Jasper said. "He said that he's having some mental stuff going on. He's been off. I know that he's a bad shot, but when Bella got shot that day, that was the worse he had ever done. His progress with the knives are backsliding. The only thing saving him is that he actually won his spar the other day. I don't know what is wrong with him."

"It's possible that everything is just weighing on him." Eric said. "He stole important plans from Jeanine before coming here from Erudite. He's not built for Dauntless, but he did it anyways because what we're doing is more important."

Jasper sighed. "Okay. I'll work harder with him."

"You're going to have to do something. Max can't see me ever showing any mercy on any of you out there. He already thought I had relaxed too much. I haven't forced as many spars as I should have at this point. Four is doing a good job of being a distraction." Eric said and sighed. "I saw George yesterday. He looks okay. Carlisle got medicine to them, which was needed. The water is contaminated out there. They have to figure out a better way to filter water. Even if they managed to fix it for the time being." Eric explained.

"The water was fine for two years now. Why the sudden change?"

"I don't know." Eric said and sighed. "Maybe the spring has changed in the mountain. I have to figure it out." He took another drink of his beer.

Jasper stood there a moment. "Did you two really… before me and her?"

"Yeah. She jumped me." Eric said and ran a hand through his hair on top. "It was unexpected. I knew, in my mind, that it was a bad idea. But then when have I ever been smart."

Jasper snorted. "Never."

Eric smiled. "I love her Jasper. I told her I loved her tonight."

"That's good. Admitting your feelings and not running from them like you normally do."

"Yeah. I knew the moment I saw you both flirting in the training room. I just made excuses for it. Because I was pissed off that your hands were on her. It was hard to watch. So I came to the conclusion that I was falling for her. I didn't know she was Divergent. I'm usually good at spotting other Divergents, but with her… I just completely missed it." Eric said.

Jasper nodded. "Yeah, I missed it too. I was just having fun. She is fun." He shrugged. "But she is like my best friend now."

Eric knew that Bella was extraordinary and she attracted people. "Even Lukas was infatuated with her. I didn't know he was feeling that way. I hadn't really seen him with another girl and then he kissed her at the bazaar. I mean, now it's different. He's covering for us, but I just wish I could just be open with Bella when I want. If Max wouldn't kill me, I would." He finished his beer.

Jasper understood the need for secrecy. "Yeah, but did it have to be Lukas? He really has feelings for Bella, you know that right?"

"I didn't really know. He was really upset when she got hurt. He was calm during, but afterwards. That night when she was sleeping, he cried. I had never seen him cry before and I knew that he cared a lot. He didn't want to talk about it. He went into surgery the next morning. He hid the tumor from me."

"Yeah, I didn't know." Jasper said. "When we're out there, he's Dauntless. He doesn't even slip. Not once. Him being with Bella has made Tris question Bella's sanity. Tris is clueless on what her sister is. Bella hasn't told me. I think the only one that knows is probably Tori."

Eric nodded. "I'm pretty certain that Tori knows that Bella is Divergent. I think that's how Bella figured out what she was. Because Tori overrode her test. Manually put Dauntless. But that's not important anymore. What's important now is finishing out this round. Next round we'll be doing trips outside the wall. Max thinks it's a great way to test the recruits. I know I have ulterior motives, but it will test the group."

"It's a risk." Jasper pointed out.

"I know. Ravagers outside the wall. But with the training in the first round, you guys can handle it." Eric said.

"Maybe. Al is still the weakest link here. I'll work with him more. Get his marksman better. Knives and sparring. I'll get him to 23."

Eric nodded. "Good. You should get back before anyone gets suspicious." He said and stood.

Jasper leaned away from the dresser, finishing his beer quickly and setting it down. He walked over to Eric and then they hugged, slapping each other's back. "Don't take your pissy mood out on me again during training."

Eric smiled. "No promises brother." He said and watched Jasper leave. He went to the window in his room and looked out on Chicago. The lights were peppered through the city. He could see Abnegation housing from afar and he knew that Jeanine was planning on a total devastation of Abnegation once their research and new serum was complete. He just hoped that he had time to stop it from happening.

[One Week Later]

"The stitches look great." Carlisle said to Bella when he checked her side and back out. "You can return to physical duty. Though I would be mindful of the stitches still. Don't go to the extreme."

Bella smiled. "Well, you know me."

"I do, which is why I'm releasing you." Carlisle said with a smile. "Everything else okay? Eric okay?"

"He's… Eric." Bella said and sighed. "This week has been up and down. I think a lot of it is the water situation." Bella alluded to what Eric told her about George and the water.

Carlisle nodded. "Yeah, he's stressed. Maybe just make him relax. So he's not thinking about all the stuff he has to do."

Bella agreed. She would make Eric relax tonight after training. Maybe get Lukas and Jasper in on it. "Yeah, that's a good idea. Thanks Carlisle." She said and then she left.

Later that night, Bella went to the bazaar. Her first stop was the bar, getting a drink, before she went to Tori to get a tattoo.

Bella opened the door and Tori was tattooing Lukas. She raised a brow and leaned against the door when she closed it. "Looks amazing." She complimented.

Lukas smiled. He had his arm tucked under his head as he lay there, inclined on the table while Tori ran the tattoo machine over his side and chest, creating a tribal pattern. "Thanks. Doc clear you?"

"Yup. Good to go."

Tori leaned back, finishing. She smiled over at Bella. "You're next."

Bella smiled and watched Lukas get up. He walked over to her, his muscles flexed a little as he got used to the stinging feeling left by the tattoo. He bent and kissed her and Bella kissed him back. "Hey, don't leave the bazaar without me tonight. I have something for us to do."

Eric nodded. "Alright. Sure, distractions are good." He said. "I'll meet you back in my room then." He said and then he got up and left.

Bella smiled, watching him leave. Lukas and Jasper got to the bar, both laughing at something. "Hey, come on. Plan, cheer up Eric is a go."

Eric sighed. "Okay, but I'm too sober for whatever the fuck it is." He said and got cups out for whiskey. He poured some for all of them and they clicked their cups together before they took a large drink.

Bella cleared her throat. "Okay, so a game we used to play in Abnegation is Never Have I ever."

"What?" Eric said, his brow raised.

"So, basically, you go around and you say never have I ever done this thing and the people who have, have to drink."

"Wait a minute." Lukas said. "Abnegation drinks?"
