Writer's Notes: Firstly thank you everyone for so much support. I apologize for not getting this uploaded sooner. 4 kiddos is a handful sometimes especially with school closures. I am getting back on track with this fic and Dear Soulmate. These stories are coming to a close soonish and I have a couple of great stories in store for the end of the month. Stay tuned. Jeanine showed up in Dauntless. She walked into Max's office and she closed the door. "You've sent Eric to handle Marcus?"
Max leaned back in his seat, setting the papers down on his desk he was holding. Jeanine visited on the occasion, though she didn't make it a habit or it would look suspicious with her there all the time. "I sent Eric and Bella. They are handling Divergent children first this morning."
Jeanine nodded. "Marcus is trying to undermine our mission." She said, frustrated.
Max raised a brow. "Well, yes. That's why Eric and Bella will handle him."
"This Bella, you speak highly of her."
Max nodded. "She is the best in leadership."
"Better than Eric? That's hard to believe." Jeanine scoffed.
"She's ruthless, has barely any fear and she's cold. And calculated." Max said, describing Bella. It was true that's how Bella wanted others to see her, mainly Max, because it was her job to deflect attention away from being Divergent.
Jeanine was quiet for a moment. "Good. That's good." She said with a nod. "What does Eric think about her?"
Max nodded, lacing his hands together in front of him. "He likes her. I'm pretty sure he's trying to get her into bed, but she's not easy that's for sure. She's extreme."
Jeanine smiled a little. "Well, if Eric fancies her, then she has to be a good one."
"Indeed." Max said. "If that was all?"
"Yes. I should get back before I'm noticed here. Let me know about Marcus." Jeanine said and she excused herself.
Bella and Eric arrived in Abnegation. They got back from taking the Divergent children to the Divergent hidden city for safety and caught the train back in. Bella wasn't looking forward to being in Abnegation again after being gone for so long. It wasn't particularly odd to see Dauntless in any other factions because they were the police force of the city. Children playing stared at them as they walked through Abnegation. It was a sight to see two Dauntless soldiers, especially since Bella came from this faction.
"Isabella!" A girl called and ran towards Bella.
Bella turned to look at the girl that called her name. "Jane." She said simply as the girl approached. Jane was younger, about fifteen now, it seemed. Her blonde hair was wound in a tight bun on the back of her head and her blue eyes seemed spirited.
Eric stopped when Bella stopped, glancing at Jane when she approached.
"You look so different." Jane marveled, looking Bella up and down. Bella was wearing a black tank top since it was hotter outside and since they went for a swim earlier, she didn't want a heavy jacket weighing her down in the water. Her tattoos peppered her light skin and her hair was still short.
Bella nodded, looking Jane over. "You got taller." She observed.
"I did. I can't believe you're here… wait… why are you here?" Jane was confused.
Bella shook her head. "Classified info Jane. I'm really busy though. It was good seeing you." She said and then she broke away, nudging Eric to keep walking.
Eric smirked on the inside. "Friend of yours?"
"More like I babysat her." Bella said and they approached Marcus Eaton's house. They stopped at the door and Eric knocked three times. They waited, hearing footsteps coming towards the door.
Marcus opened the door, seeing Eric and Bella. He was surprised to see them. "Eric, Isabella. This is a surprise." He said.
Eric nodded. "We need to talk. Inside." He said, his voice abrupt, brash.
Marcus just nodded and stepped aside to let them inside. He shut the door behind them and they walked towards the living room and they stopped when they saw other people.
Bella swallowed, her dark eyes landing on the faces of her parents, Andrew and Natalie Prior. Her chest tightened, but she kept her face passive.
"What's this about?" Marcus asked, tucking his hands into his pockets. His cool blue eyes stared back at Eric, not looking at Bella now.
Andrew frowned, standing, looking at his daughter and how much she had changed. The tattoos and the hair. Even her expression was dim. "What's going on?"
Bella didn't spare her father a glance. "Marcus Eaton, you're under arrest by the authority of Dauntless." She said, her voice smooth, no emotion.
Marcus frowned. "You can't do this. You- "
"We have the authority." Eric said, tilting his head. "We'll remove you by force if we have to."
Marcus shook his head. "This is ridiculous." He said and stepped forward to place a hand on Bella's shoulder. It was a power move on his part and a way for him to control her. It was the wrong move.
"I wouldn't tou-" Eric started, but it was too late.
Bella snapped out, her reflexes fast even with her biogenetic hand. She grabbed his wrist, turning it over and placing him into an armbar. She brought her knee up and it connected with his face, busting his nose open, blood spewing everywhere.
Andrew flinched and Natalie's hand flew to her mouth, both stunned that Bella was so violent.
"You don't get to touch me." Bella said, her tone fierce. "You're under arrest. Fucking touch me again, I will rip your arm from your body and beat you with it." She hissed.
"Isabella Marie-"Andrew started.
"You don't talk." Bella snapped her attention to her father now. "This doesn't concern you. I suggest you stay as you are." She bit out.
Eric made a hmph sound, ignoring Marcus's whines of pain. He pulled out cuffs then fastened them to Marcus's wrists and straightened him. Blood trickled down his face.
"She broke my nose." Marcus whined.
"Good." Eric said with a nod. "You shouldn't touch people without permission." He said and gave his face a light slap, before turning him and pushing him towards the door.
Andrew was horrified by Bella's demeanor. "What happened to you?"
Bella looked at him. "A lot." She admitted.
"Why are you this way now?" Natalie croaked out.
"I have to be to survive." Bella said and looked at her mother. "Tris is dead. I don't know if they notified you."
Tears filled both their eyes, Andrew and Natalie hugged each other. Words not formulating now.
"Dauntless changes you. You either die or survive. I'm a leader in Dauntless now because I'm a survivor. Tris was not." Bella said. "This is the last time you'll see me. I don't ever want to step foot in this place again." She said, turning.
"Do you not care?" Andrew managed to get out.
Bella stopped, glancing over her shoulder. "No. I don't." She said and then she walked away, leaving the house and meeting up with Eric. Marcus was still grumbling, but they pushed him along towards the train.
