Keldon and Aife
The old King shook his head as he walked back and forth. He was sure he made his points clear and precise. But the old dogs did not listen.
"Still don't want to be King again? Aife asked. The man had been wearing a groove into the carpet he paced on.
"It wouldn't be the same without your grandmother. But I can still make things happen as myself, as Keldon. I know thousands of Fae. If I so much as call them, these Fae will look like preschool Fae". Keldon stopped and looked at Aife.
"So, call them". Aife laughed.
Keldon stopped and thought about it, then started walking again.
"Grandfather please. Don't worry so much. This has been fun has it not? Lauren and Isabeau are fine, and in one piece. They are nothing to get yourself so worked up over. If you want to call in your Fae, call them. If you don't, give me their numbers". Aife suggested with a huge ass smile.
The old Succubus had Sasha dig up everything that she could find on Queen Aife and King Keldon. The man was not lying about his allies. The list is long and very distinguished. She always knew she came from absolute power, but never imagined the King's power and influence. It would do Bo good to know about it too. Since she is so skeptical about using her Succubus. She's more than she ever thought she was. They both are.
"I know you Aife. How many have you called already? Keldon asked over his shoulder.
"About a hundred". Aife laughed.
"I won't admonish you. I won't be Trick, but don't do that again without checking with me first". Keldon said.
"I obey My King". Aife bowed.
"What are you planning on doing with the ones you called on? Keldon asked from his seat.
"I'm going to make those little bitches run. All of them. I won't even have to throw a stick". Aife turned deadly serious.
"I see no harm in that. But be careful. Not all of them are used to taking orders from women. They rarely obeyed Queen Aife. Which is why half of them are dead". Keldon took a drink from a nearby butler.
"I'm going to take everything from the surviving packs. Their jobs. Their homes. Their balls". Aife laughed.
"I draw the line at second born. But first born should know better. They are fair game". Keldon shrugged.
Aife covered her mouth and laughed. She was basically just given the kingdom to use as her playground. Not that she hadn't done that for years when Trick was still alive. But this father. This grandfather is everything that she wanted Trick to be. Needed him to be. But he was too cowardly. Afraid of offending Elders. Now those same Elders bowed to Keldon, even off of his throne.
Hale and Kenzi.
"What am I supposed to do? Kenzi asked.
"Sit on your ass and watch tv. You're used to do that". Hale shrugged as he pulled his jacket and hat on.
"All day? No. I am used to being out there, investigating people". Kenzi fired back.
"This is a new Toronto Kenz. None of that shit will fly. The Fae have closed ranks. None of them will stand for you digging into their business. You do and you're dead. I have warned you more than once". Hale finished his drink and set the cup on the kitchen counter.
"Am I ever going to see Bo again? Kenzi asked.
"It is not my place to answer that. But think about Lauren before you open that can of worms. She's important to Bo and you know it". Hale left without another word. He is due at the station and knew Kenzi would play another round of twenty questions. He had already been informed about Keldon, Lauren and Aife. If Kenzi didn't heed his warnings like the king's warnings were ignored, she would need a Doctor and even Lauren might turn her away at this point.
Lauren and Bo.
The Doctor was drawing circles on Bo's chest as they lay in bed.
"It's time to get up and shower. Cedric is working hard, and it smells like it". Bo cooed in the Doctor's ear as she rubbed her back.
"Five more minutes". Lauren adjusted herself and closed her eyes.
"No. Now Dr. You have been saying five minutes for the last two hours". Bo laughed.
"You're right. I need to get up and get to work. It will help get the kinks from last night out". Lauren rose from the bed and left Bo in it. She walked to one of her many closets and picked out a freshly pressed outfit. Didn't matter though, as soon as she stepped into her clinic, she was going to change into her scrubs and a freshly pressed lab coat.
Bo smiled as she waited her turn to shower. If she went in there, they would be later. She frowned thinking about what Lauren said about wanting to fight for them and with them. Her eyes flashed blue at the thought of someone smacking Lauren around. They would never get close enough. Lauren's hands are not made to fight. They are made to heal. To love. To comfort. Nothing the Fae ever heard of until Bo. She is not supposed to love. She's supposed to be a cold blooded killer. That's Aife. Nothing that shocks Bo at all. That woman is pure Fae. She smiled at the thought and turned over.
Bo is still new to the Fae world. A world she never knew about. Never imagined when she was running the streets. She didn't to have run. She just needed to stop in the building she often saw on her daily hikes running from her latest kills. Something about the Light Fae compound always pulled at her. Made her eyes flash blue even after a full feed. Now that pull wants to kick and fight people. Probably inject them with something lethal or leave them with a rash on purpose. While the thought of Lauren physically fighting something arouses the Succubus, it also pisses her off. Lauren's too smart to resort to violence when she can use her mind to get out of it. Bo popped her knuckles.
Somehow something has gone wrong between them. Lauren thinks she's not worthy or their relationship because she hasn't kicked anyone's ass. That she hasn't fought for them. Lauren fought for them first. Their first night she fought for them. She didn't want Bo running after Vex. He is a strong bastard and Bo wasn't ready for his powers. Even though her Succubus could overpower him, Lauren tried to get her to stay. To keep from getting her ass handed to her, and two, facing humiliation. A part of the Succubus felt that too. Then Dyson showed after she wanted to plant her sword in Vex's throat for showing her up. Even though they were alone.
She doesn't want Lauren to face that. The Fae would mock her. Even being Bo's mate, she doesn't want the Doctor to feel anything but respect and love. She jumped into the shower after Lauren emerged and they met downstairs for breakfast.
"Eat up. It's later than we thought". Bo pointed to the clock.
Lauren's eyes went wide and she quickly stood. She wiped her mouth and kissed Bo as she ran out the door into her car.
Bo sat at the table and ate her breakfast. She wanted to drive Lauren to work but wanted her to have some freedom too. Coddling her would make her weakness theory a reality. Bo always wanted a normal life, and Lauren wants violence and aggression. She laughed at the irony. She doesn't need to fight for them. Bo is already hers without the fighting. Without them making love. Without all of it. She's simply Lauren's.
She sighed into her hands. She has to make the Doctor see her worth. But nothing was coming to mind on how she could do that. If Lauren is sulking back into the Fae bullshit of she will never be enough, that fell on Bo. The Fae were never enough for Lauren. Never enough to understand what was right under their noses. Lauren had been fighting to save Nadia's life in a world, that Bo stumbled into and fell in love with the Doctor's heroism. Imagine a Doctor thinking they don't do enough.
Bo popped up and pulled her phone out. This is going to take her all day but looking at the clock Lauren would be gone all day.
"Mom, get grandfather and come over here, right now! Bo smiled into her phone.
"Why? Is it Lauren? Aife turned to Keldon.
"Yes. It's Lauren. Now get here". Bo smiled as she hung up. She asked Cedric to stick around a little longer. This is going to take a lot of hands and work.
Lauren's Clinic
"Can you help me? A patient asked.
"With the bruising yes. But the rest will require a specialist". Lauren turned towards the woman.
"I don't need one of those". The woman scoffed.
"You asked for me personally and I gave you my personal opinion." Lauren smiled softly as she handed the nurse her discharge instructions.
"Sorry to bother you with this Dr. Lewis". Natalie bowed.
"It's quite alright". Lauren smiled as she walked out of the room.
"Is she always like that? The woman snapped.
"She's the best Doctor we have here. But you knew that didn't you? Natalie replied.
"I thought she would patch me up and send me home. I didn't need the specialist mumbo jumbo". The woman snatched the paperwork from the nurse.
"That's it. Get the hell out of here and don't come back. We will keep your blood work and picture on file. So, don't think you will sneak in here unnoticed the next time your boyfriend beats your ass! Natalie snapped as she called for a wheelchair.
"Fine". The woman stormed off and declined the chair.
Natalie shook her head. She wished she had the medical experience and calm that Dr. Lewis possesses. But people like that piss her off. She asked for the Dr., then didn't like what she was told. She scrubbed her hands and waited until the woman was out of the building. Weird little shits, she mumbled under her breath.
Lauren sighed and pulled her lab coat off. It was time for lunch and once again Bo had ensured she would have a healthy one. She smiled at the fresh flowers that had been delivered since she left her office before treating that last patient. She spun around in her office chair and took in the view. It has always been one of her go to consolations. To stare out into the world. Out at nature. Something to remind her of why she became a doctor in the first place.
Rabbits. Squirrels. Even they amused her. She closed the curtains, pulled her scrubs off and jumped onto her treadmill. There was no reason she couldn't get a workout session in since she was on her lunch break. She focused as if she was running to Bo. The excitement of seeing the woman in front of her. Those warm welcoming brown eyes. The fun she would have just being with Bo. Running to their future.
She jumped off of that machine and instantly dropped down to do push-ups. She was so sweaty that she jumped into her private shower. She wasn't going to let one unruly patient ruin the rest of her workday. One staff member recently asked why she worked when she didn't have to. He was immediately fired. Money should never be part of a medical professional's motives.
Bo
Hours had passed and Bo was still barking out orders. Aife and Keldon handled the rest.
The young Succubus smiled when it was finally done. She dismissed some of the staff, with many thanks. Aife didn't think it necessary to thank them. Once she summoned someone, they shouldn't ask for payment or accolades, they should just come.
Bo walked around the room inspecting everything. The guests were told to stand outside in the backyard while Bo made sure everything was as she wanted it to be. Once she was satisfied, they were brought back in and told to sit in silence.
Aife and Keldon watched them as she went to freshen up before Lauren came home. Butterflies filled Bo's stomach as the key turned in the door.
Lauren rubbed her eyes as she entered the living room. She felt her bag hit the floor where a table was supposed to be.
"Bo? Lauren called out.
"Right here. Hit the lights! Bo screamed.
Lauren gasped at the sight in front of her. The audience stood and applauded at Keldon's command.
"Bo? What is this? Lauren asked.
"These are all the lives you have saved. The lives you fought for. Every patient in your earlier days before the Fae and during your days with the Fae". Bo answered.
Lauren looked around at the pictures on the walls. She remembered every face, every diagnosis, wound and diseases.
"Bo this violates their privacy". Lauren stopped.
"No, it doesn't. Lights again! Bo screamed.
Lauren gasped at the faces in front of her.
"Dr. Lewis these are all the patients that you have ever treated. Those that are still alive. Those that you saved with your mind and hands." Bo walked in front of the group and stood by Lauren.
Lauren couldn't believe it. Some she treated fresh out of med school. Some she treated on the streets. Some she made house calls for.
"You can talk. It's ok". Bo nodded towards them.
For the next five hours Lauren spent time talking to old patients. She received thanks and updates on how their lives had improved. Some even went into the medical field because of her. They shared family stories and pictures of their children. Lauren cried through all of it. Bo stood by her with tissues in hand and back rubs.
The Succubus was learning too. Learning about the woman she chose as her mate. Her life partner. Her best friend. Her inspiration. Lauren had saved kids turned adults. She never thought of Lauren treating a child before until tonight. But as professional and as soft spoken as Lauren can be, of course she would know how to treat them too.
Aife and Keldon stood in the far back. This is Lauren's night. Of course, they were reading auras. All of it was pure. They smiled at the adoration Lauren was receiving. She deserves it and so much more.
"Isabeau picked a good one". Aife whispered.
"She certainly did. Lauren could have her own army if she wants to". Keldon laughed.
"Always thinking like a king". Aife laughed.
Once Bo thought they had spent enough time on the patients, she thanked them for coming and asked that they be flown home immediately Some of them had to come from the States. Some came from Europe. But it was worth it. Just to see Lauren's face now.
The four sat down for a late dinner. They talked about the Fae, leaving Lauren's patients off the table. Cedric brought them whatever they asked for. Once the dinner was done, they walked back to the living room after it had been put back the way it was.
Aife was about to bust at the seams but kept her anticipation and glee under control.
Lauren had a full day and night. She even got the chance to speak with the families of patients that she couldn't save. They had thanked her for trying. Lauren remembered one patient that she worked her fingers to the bone to try and save and couldn't. She had soaked her fingers in ice to take the swelling out of them.
"Well that is it. Every patient that I could find that you once treated". Bo cooed.
Aife cleared her throat. "Ahem".
"Mom? Bo turned to her.
"You forgot one Isabeau. A very obvious one". Aife laughed.
"What? Who? Bo asked.
"Kids". Aife laughed as she walked over and placed a picture in Lauren's hand.
"Who is this? I don't remember this patient". Lauren looked the picture over thoroughly.
"Look again Doctor". Aife laughed.
"Bo! Lauren smiled wide.
"Huh? Me? Bo finally looked at the picture.
"It is you as a baby. You can't sit there and tell me that doctor hasn't saved your life". Aife turned serious.
"No, I can't tell you that. Because she has. She still does." Bo smiled. She loved the gesture.
"Well once you told me what you wanted done, I went and dug this picture up. I have hundreds of them. They were the only things I had of you, until I found you again". Aife explained.
Lauren cried into her hands and the three gave her time to.
"See Lauren. You don't have to fight for us and with us. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be around to fight either. Mom wouldn't be in town and grandfather wouldn't have found us either. You are enough. Enough for all of us". Bo said tearfully and stood. The three of them applauded Lauren and bowed.
"I don't know what to say. How you pulled this off so quickly. My longstanding wish is that every patient that I treat makes it to live a long and healthy life and existence. I never expected to see that reality come true". Lauren stood to match their stance.
"Well, now you have proof. Living proof. Gratitude. Your life has never been in vain. You have always mattered to many all over the world. In our world right here". Bo smiled through tears.
"She's right Lauren. You don't need to physically fight. We fight to keep you around. To keep you safe. To keep you well enough to save more lives. Like you saved ours. I don't think I would have found my daughter alive, if it weren't for you telling her what she was and how to heal herself. We fight for you to have someone to love". Aife stepped forward with tissues for the crying duo.
Lauren burst into tears at Aife's last statement. She was just being a Doctor that day. She never expected to see Bo again. The young Succubus hadn't chosen a side. It was against Fae rules that she associate with her unless instructed to by the Ash. But Bo kept coming back. Kept coming to see her. Stood quietly and watched her work when most Fae would have been ordering her around.
The Doctor is up for a new fight now. To help the three of them live as long as they deserve to. To fight with her medical hands and fix whatever they come to her with. There is trust here. There is love here.
Lauren's Clinic
"And you are sure this is where she works? A woman asked.
"This is her isn't it? Another woman asked showing a picture.
"That's that bitch. We'll just wait for her to come to work again". The first woman laughed and reclined in her car seat.
