Caroline's POV
I got the girls up ready for their visit with their dad at the contact centre. I was shaking with nerves as this was the first time that I had seen Alaric since his stint in Rehab, shit! I was so not ready for this. The dickhead had me shot with a wooden vervained bullet. Nearly leaving his girls motherless, orphaned. 'Oh great, now I'm muttering to myself'
"Doll, what's up?" Stevie wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck as I groaned.
"The girl's first visit with Alaric, and I'm in panic mode" Stevie sighed "He's clean now doll, and he can't take the girls away from you. We've talked about this, he's still a flight risk, so his passport has been confiscated" The girls came running in at that moment

Alaric POV

I listened to the other participants stories as my mind drifts to my girls. My baby daughters, now my four-year-old daughters.
I had screwed up so badly and now my only way to the top was to hit rock bottom.

I grabbed them in my arms and tried to run out the door "One more move, Saltzman, one more step, and you can say goodbye to your bail conditions, and your visitation rights with your little girls" he had a gun at my back "Put the girls down, now!" he commanded. "Agent Hill, can you get the girls out of this room please?" He must have heard an affirmative because a woman came in and took the girls out of my arms, and out of the room. Oh gods, had I cracked up again, was this like the time when my alter-ego "Evilaric" took over again. I had to stop him from hurting Caroline and the girls! "Kill me, Agent Barton, please!" I begged him crying "No!" he rasped as I grabbed his gun, put it to my head and pulled the trigger.

Steve Rogers POV
"No!" I ran down to the lab to see Tony-bear putting on the suit "Tony-bear, we got to get Care, now!" I collapsed in his arms, over-breathing, 'Fuck, panic attack!' I think. Flying to the coffee shop. I land and Caroline's on the sidewalk, sobbing. "Stevie!" she flies into my arms as my face plate goes up "The girls are with Agent Hill" she took a deep breath. "I can't believe he took his own life!" I put a finger under her chin. "The girls will get through this; we will all be there for both the twins" I was crying inside for our girl. "Baby blue" I heard in my ear "Bringing the girls to their mother, they are safe Stevie, traumatised but safe" Caroline looked up with hope in her eyes. "Agent Barton is in shock, Alaric grabbed Barton's gun and put it to his head, then pulled the trigger"
Caroline looked to her left as Iron Man aka Tony Stark landed on the pavement with Lizzie and Josie "Mommy!" They cried out as they ran into my arms as Stevie looked on with tears in his eyes. "Remember what I said when Aunt Bonnie died" Caroline hugged the girls on her lap. "You said, 'that it is us and you, always and forever, no matter the…challenges in our lives, but now we have Unca Steve and Unca Tony in our lives helping us too" the girls looked so wide-eyed teary and innocent. Our girls were heartbroken as they cried in Caroline's arms.
Caroline's POV
Here I am again in Mystic Falls, about to bury the father of our children. I don't want to be here. I want to be in New York with Steve and Tony, and the girls. I stroke Alaric's face, even if I am angry with him. "Why'd you snap, Ric?" I must forgive him now.

So, he took his own life before he could hurt his little girls. It was the only way he could protect them, anyway, he heard you when you said you forgave him, he found Josette in the afterlife. He also said "Wait-to-go, Caroline!" that was his exact phrasing, what does he mean by that?"
"Um, oh to hell with it, I'm marrying Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in June" Jeremy's jaw dropped. "You are marrying two men?" I nodded as I bit my lip. Jeremy looked at me and Stevie again, then he grinned. then the Limo pulled up, and outstepped Tony Stark in a black suit, Pepper Potts in a cream pencil dress, Eiffel pumps and a black fitted jacket. Then Agent Barton who none of us had heard from in two weeks. Then his husband Phil Coulson Head of the SHIELD Agency. Agent Hill was running point as she handed off the girls to Tony's capable hands. Jeremy and Matt opened the doors widely as Tony came up to me and pulled me into a kiss, I turned to Stevie, and he kissed me too. "Alaric was a very troubled man, and he wasn't a man of faith, until he made the ultimate sacrifice for them. When I did meet Alaric, he was angry with the world, but he got himself clean. Then something caused him to snap, can't put a finger on it, but snap he did, and chose to take himself out of the equation" I looked at Caroline sadly "But he did so for his precious daughters, Josie, and Lizzie, now girls, I know you are sad and hurting, but know that the avengers will be by your side through thick and thin to get you through it" Caroline sobbed into Steve's shoulder. The rest of the gang were crying for her inside. The girls were cuddling on Stevie's lap with teary eyes

I stood up and took my place at the plinth. "When mom died, I couldn't deal properly, so I ignored the grief and the hurting and threw myself into planning events. Then I was pregnant with the two little angels that I have had the privilege to raise with Alaric. I knew he was angry at everyone for his loss of Josette, and I thought that my companionship would help him. Only I had my own demons from the past to battle. I couldn't deal with his as well" I turned to the coffin with Alaric inside it. "I'm so sorry that you felt you had to do this, and I forgive you" I place a kiss on the coffin "Rest in peace, Alaric"

Our girl was back to work and the twin girls were settled into a nice routine. They were in the second grade now. "Hmm, doable, but Madison Everett needs at least a week to organise everything" Natasha laughed at this "Relax, guys, she already accepted your proposal"
"But she deserves perfection, gosh, this is so big, Nat, we've already adopted Josie and Lizzie, we only need a celebrant and to register the marriage with New York's County office"
"You two are so gone on Caroline, it's really beautiful to see" Nat laughed. Tony perked up as Caroline walked in and sat down on the sofa between the two men. "Hey baby girl, how many weeks did the ultrasound scan put you in terms of gestation?"
"10 weeks, Bonnie and Antonio are cooking perfectly safe in here"
"Have they moved yet?" Caroline brings my hand and Stevie's hand to her stomach. She has a slight bulge where her stomach was flat two weeks ago. "It feels like butterflies, they are incredibly soft fluttering's, almost as if I do have butterflies inside my tummy" Stevie looked like he would leap in joy as he suddenly grinned "I feel it, baby girl, you make us so happy" I just felt awed by the woman who had opened our hearts and minds.
"I wish Bonnie was here" Caroline got teary as we hugged her again. "She is, baby girl"
