Chapter 13: Eden Park Roller Rink
One chilly final Saturday of February 2023, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, as well as Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at Eden Park Roller Rink in McKeesport for a night of roller skating. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We jammed out to Kate Bush, Lizzo, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees on the way to roller skating. "I can't believe that we have the nerve to go skating on a Saturday night, especially after a picnic that I went to in Oakmont with the Moser-Carson family," I told everyone. "Yeah, imagine having our next sleepover here instead of at the Carnegie Science Center," Sarah told me. "I would rather prefer a night in doing hair and nail makeovers like we did as young girls." "What if you were still a teenager and got asked out on a roller-skating date for an over-21 night?" I asked. "That's what John Paul did to me when I was a teenager," Sarah remembered. "Except he took me to see an R-rated movie in theaters." "Do you have your roller skates on, Henri?" James asked. "Yes, I do, James," Henri replied. "Then, let's get out on the floor and skate!" "Look, my stepmom is here," Carly stated. "Hopefully, she didn't bring her daughter with her." "Angel and I were just talking about going to an over-21 roller skating night as an underaged person," Sarah told Carly. "But, it is nice to see your stepmom again, Carly," I stated. "Before you guys go out on the skating floor, do any of you guys remember Valerie?" Carly asked her male best friend and stepfather. "I believe she worked at Tarena Roller Rink for a few years," Mr. Benson stated. "Thank goodness she does not live in the city of Pittsburgh anymore, huh?" Spencer asked. "Aren't you going to go skating, Alex?" I asked my other female friend. "I don't know," Alex stated. "As much as I love doing all kinds of exercise, I am kind of afraid to go roller skating because I am afraid of falling. So, I will just look forward to making fortune tellers in Oakmont tomorrow instead!" "We did something else in Oakmont, too, prior to our senior year of high school," Justin stated. "But, what was it?" "It was probably just a pre-senior retreat, Justin," Max stated. "Now, let's get out on the floor!" Once roller skating was over, we headed back home for the evening. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
