A/N: I'm on a posting streak. I hope you all enjoy this one!
"Okay, Sunshine, you sure you're ready for this?"
Leo glanced at Calypso. Her eyes were shining with excitement, watching the river flow by in fascination.
"Absolutely," she said, bouncing on her toes. Leo smirked and looked down at her.
"That excited to get rid of me, huh?" Calypso rolled her eyes and nudged him playfully.
"Shut up, you know that isn't true."
"Uh-huh. I'm sure."
Leo put his arm around Calypso's shoulders and drew her closer to him, pressing a kiss to her forehead. She leaned in closer to him and sighed, the noise echoing around the cavern.
There weren't many people today, Leo realized, which was unusual for the underworld. According to Hazel, who had gone for her final life some time ago, it was always busy. Today it was just a few people entering and exiting the river.
"I'm really going to miss you, Leo." Calypso's voice was soft, the lightness in her tone gone.
"Then why are we doing this for?" he asked, tearing his gaze away from the river to meet Calypso's eyes. "What's the deal? I mean, not that I mind. It's going to be a great adventure regardless." Calypso took a step back from him and took his hands in hers. They were flawless and soft as always.
"I need a quiet life, Leo," she said softly. "I spent thousands of years cursed on an island, and even after, we fought monsters and constantly worried about getting quests. I just want to be..." she broke off and searched Leo's expression, like she was willing him to understand.
"Normal?"
Calypso nodded, but didn't say anything else.
"Well, I can't really fault you for that," Leo replied after a long stretch of silence. "I think we've all wished that at some point in our lives. An occupational hazard of being a demigod." Calypso smiled at him gratefully and opened her mouth, but was cut off by a voice.
"Valdez, Leo and Calypso!" they turned around to see a man with an annoyed look on his face, a clipboard clutched tightly in his hands.
They walked forward, still holding hands. The man with the clipboard began talking, and true to his character, Leo's mind began to wander. He looked around, taking in the scenery. He registered a few people checking in and getting their papers ready. He saw people walking in and out of the river, looking frightened and confused as they did so. His anxiety spiked as he watched them, entranced by the scene.
"Hey, Leo. Are you listening?"
He was jerked back into reality by Cal's voice, edged with amusement.
"No," he admitted. "Though I'm flattered you think there was a possibility I was." Calypso smiled, and Leo's heart skipped a beat. It didn't matter that they had been together for so long, her smile always took his breath away.
"He said that it's time to go. It's time for me to go," she said with a smile.
"And I'll follow you?"
"Yes." They stood at the bank of the river in a hollow silence, and for the first time, he felt a flicker of anxiety. "Are you sure you want this?"
"Sunshine," he said, swallowing his fear down. "I'll go where you go."
"Are you sure?" She asked with raised eyebrows. "It's a pretty big risk you know."
Leo snickered. "I literally blew myself up once so I could find you. I'm pretty sure I can walk through a river." Calypso's smile had vanished. Her almond-shaped eyes were full of concern, and her eyebrows knit together.
"But there are actual consequences for going through this river, Leo." Leo sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Not this again.
"Cal, we talked about this," he said in exasperation. "I'm coming with you. If I really cared about losing my memory then I wouldn't be here." Cal stared out at the river, picking at her sleeve. Leo watched her carefully, trying to read her expression. "Look," he said in a soft voice, "you deserve this. And if I'm being honest, I'm ready for another adventure." Calypso met his eyes, and Leo was startled to see tears in her own.
"Okay," she said, and she wrapped her arms around his neck. Leo's arms encircled her waist, and he pulled her closer against him, kissing the top of her head.
"It'll be all right, Cal," he whispered. Calypso nodded against his chest, and he held her against him, savoring his last moments with the girl he loved before they lost their memories. Then the ghost with the clipboard cleared his throat and said in an annoyed voice,
"We're on a schedule here." Leo glared at him, and reluctantly let go of Calypso.
"I love you," she said, carefully pulling away from his embrace.
"I love you too," Leo whispered back.
They squeezed each other's hands one last time, and with a small smile, Calypso turned around, walking toward the water.
"Hey, Cal?" Leo called out to her. She stopped and turned around, her long caramel-colored braid falling over her shoulder.
"Yeah?"
"I'll see you on the other side."
Calypso smiled.
"I'll see you on the other side."
He winked and gave Calypso a final wave, and she stepped into the water.
A/N: I honestly love Caleo. People give them a lot of flack, but I think their relationship is beautiful. Anyway, thank you so much for reading this story. Jason and Piper are next. I'm still working as a camp counselor, so it may be a bit, but I'll try my best.
