Day six in Denali.
Tanya's POV
It is early morning, 3:46am to be precise. Bella and Jacob are asleep in their beds, Carmen and Eleazar are out walking, and Kate and Garret are in their room trying to be quiet.
With nothing better to do I decided to get everything ready for the arrival of Jacobs new pack.
After more conversation with Jacob the previous evening it had been decided that the wolves will live in the guest house. That way they will have some measure of privacy and Leah and embry will have some distance while they get used to cohabiting with vampires.
The guest house is a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house with its own kitchen. It came with the property but is rarely used so won't smell too badly in the view of the wolves. despite its lack of regular use It is beautifully decorated and fully furnished due to Esme who's love of interior design drove her, on one of the Cullen's visits, to make a project of the building..
THe guest house sits some distance from the main house but at the speed vampires and wolves travel the distance would not pose an inconvenience and both wolves and vampires would easily be able to hear a moderate call from the other building.
All in all it seemed like the perfect place for the wolves to live.
I had already compiled a mental list of everything that would be needed. Starting with bedding for the beds. My main focus was in trying to make things as easy for the wolves and as comfortable as possible. I knew that Carmen had bought some new bedding a few weeks ago and I was certain that it hadn't been used yet so I went looking for that. After a half hour I found it in a cupboard at the back of the laundry room, I figured new bedding would smell less than bedding that we had used. I put the bedding in a large bag and went to the kitchen. The cupboards and fridge-freezer were all full as I had gone shopping immediately after Bella had phoned to ask if she could come to stay. I filled three bags with various food and drink then, picking up the bags, headed out of the back door. When I arrived at the guest house the first thing I did was open every window in the building. The temperature dropped rapidly however I knew that Jacob didn't suffer from the cold and so I assumed his pack mates would be the same. And judging by how frequently Jacob liked to playfully complain about the smell in the main house I surmised that the other wolves would prefer the cold to the smell. I took the food into the kitchen and stocked the cupboards, fridge, and freezer. Next I went upstairs and made up all three of the bedrooms with fresh Linen, after I was done with them I went to the bathrooms and assessed the quantity of bath products and decided that the stock was too low and that the set up could do with changing in any case. I hadn't brought any bathroom supplies with me so I popped back to the main house for some. Once I had finished in the bathrooms one had been set up for Leah, the rack in the shower contained both shampoo and conditioner, a new purple wash puff and a selection of shower gels. On the towel rack I arranged two body towels and two hair towels and on the shelf I placed a selection of body lotions just in case. The other bathroom I set up for the two boys with shampoo and body wash in the rack in he shower, I also hung a "soap on a rope" from the hook as I knew most men found them funny, then I sat two shower puffs, one blue one green, on the shelf attached to the shower unit itself. On the towel rack I laid out four extra large towels and four small hair towels. on the shelf I put two shaving kits, incase they had not had enough bag space to pack their own, and a selection of aftershaves. I took one final walk around to see if anything needed doing and then, Satisfied that I had made the house as comfortable as possible, I headed back to the main house. All in all the job had taken less than 2 hours. Carmen and Elazar had not returned and Kate and garret had now gone out as well. Jacob and Bella were still both asleep. Feeling distinctly at a loose end I wandered around the house finally finding myself drawn to Bella's door. I wondered if perhaps to go in would be an invasion of privacy but some instinct overrode that thought and I found myself quietly opening the door and flitting into the room. I looked over to the bed where Bella was asleep on her back, Her arms were draped protectively across her abdomen and her face was peaceful and relaxed. I lowered myself quietly into the armchair That stood near her bed and, settling back, watched her as she slept. I didn't know what held me in this room but for some reason I found myself unable to leave and even unable to look away from Bella's sleeping form. The night wore on and waned outside the window as I sat watching the girl in the bed. And although I had only known her a few days, I felt completely at home and curiously content in her presence.
finally the sun began to rise slowly over the horizon and when it had risen high enough to be considered twilight by human standards Bella stirred her eyes opening briefly and a frown creasing her forehead, her eyes skimmed around the room swiftly before closing again. I took that as my cue to leave, feeing that it might startle Bella to find me here, I left quickly darting silently from the room before Bella's eyes had time to open again and headed to the kitchen to await Bella's inevitable arrival knowing that the first thing she would do after waking would be to seek out food.
Bella's POV
The rising sun worked its way into my dreams And slowly woke me. As I woke I got the distinct impression that I wasn't alone so I opened my eyes and glanced around the room. They closed again of their owns accord but before they did I was sure I had seen someone sitting in the armchair. Concerned I forced my eyes open again and, sitting up slightly, focused properly on the armchair, empty. I decided that it must have been my imagination playing tricks on me. I laid back on the pillow and stretched. Then I rested my hands lightly on my stomach. It was still flat, no bump yet, but the hardness was still there. And every now and then a slight nudge hit my palms. I had looked up foetus development the day before and Tanya's friend hulien had determined that at this stage I was roughly equivalent to 5 weeks pregnant. According to the information I had found, at 5 weeks gestation The baby doesn't have any arms or legs yet so can't actually "kick" as such. Tanya had suggested that the nudges I am feeling are most likely the baby as a whole moving around and bumping into the wall of the womb as it develops. However The most fascinating thing hat I had learnt was that the baby already has a beating heart.
After a few minutes of laying there my stomach rumbled and I felt the faint stirrings of nausea.
"Alright baby, message received, lets go get you fed" I said to my belly as with one final pat I sat up properly and climbed out of bed. I took the dressing gown that Carmen had lent me off the bedpost. wrapping it round myself I headed for the bathroom and then, after a quick shower, the kitchen.
As I entered the kitchen I was pleasantly surprised to find Tanya already at the stove. She was cooking something that I couldn't see. as I entered she spoke.
"Good morning Bella how did you sleep"
"Very well thank you."
"I'm pleased."
She looked round at me for the first time taking in my appearance in Carmen's borrowed clothes
"You look very nice today"
"Thank you, Carmen has a wonderful selection of clothes."
Tanya laughed
"one of her favourite hobbies is shopping."
"She must get on well with Alice"
"Oh yes. The last time the cullens came to stay the pair of them went shopping and were gone for three days"
Our laughter was interrupted by a particularly loud rumble from my stomach and a large wave of nausea. Tanya noticed me grimace and understood instantly.
"There's a cup for you over there" she said gesturing to the sideboard under the window. I went over and picked it up taking a long suck through the straw. The nausea subsided almost instantly.
"Ah much better thank you Tanya"
Tanya chucked. "Your welcome. Now that little one has been appeased now would you like something to eat, I've made sausage omelette" as she spoke she flipped the contents of the frying pan over and slid it into a plate.
"That sounds wonderful." I replied, sitting down at the table as Tanya placed the food in front of me. At that moment Jacob walked into the room yawning and stretching.
"Morning all" he said. Flopping sideways into a chair.
"That looks jolly good Bella"
Tanya grinned and winked at me as she slid the contents of a second frying pan onto a plate and placed it on the table In front of Jacob. He looked at it startled.
"How did you know I was up"
"Vampire remember. I heard you clomp out of bed 20 minutes ago. I was already whisking up eggs for Bella so I made enough for you both." As she spoke she handed him cutlery.
"If you got up 20 minutes ago how come it took you so long to get down here"
"I phased to check in with the pack before getting dressed. I must say It's quite novel staying somewhere with big enough rooms to be able to phase inside" he grinned at Tanya who smiled in return.
"And how are the packs doing" Tanya asked
"Sam's is rallying. Most of them, Sam especially, are still reeling from the sudden events of yesterday. Mine has been to busy packing and traveling for it to really have sunk in yet but I'm sure they will have some adjusting to do when it does"
"I'm sure, this is a big upheaval for everyone" Tanya agreed
"But you will all adjust."
Jacob nodded briefly
"What time will your wolves arrive" I asked
"Well they stopped to rest in the night. They should be here in 5 hours or so"
"The guest house is ready for them"
"Thanks Tanya."
"Your most welcome"
After that we ate in silence
