AN Hey. I'm writing a companion peice to this. it started out as a chapter in this story but it's rated "MA" so i cant post it here, so it's getting its own story over on ao3 Having it posted separately gives me more scope to play with it too. It's called coitus interuptus go have a look

Day 12

I woke up slowly one morning feeling slightly different. I got up slowly and as had become habit my hands gravitated to my stomach. I discovered the difference. A fairly small but well defined bump had appeared overnight. I stroked it gently and received a kick in response. It was definitely a kick now as well. I was still following the baby's progress and by this point she had fully defined arms and legs in fact all of her main structures were formed just very very small.

I had a shower and spent some time looking at my bump from all angles using the mirrors that covered the wall at the back of the shower cubicle, after that I dressed and headed downstairs.

I went straight to the kitchen where I knew Tanya would be waiting for me with a large cup of blood and then with the little one satisfied I headed towards the dining room. After breakfast Seth and Leah went to run the mornings patrol, embry went with Garrett to find and chop some firewood, jacob went to find Eleazar who was teaching him to play chess, and I put on a large coat and pair of boots and went outside planning on sitting the porch swing and doing some reading.

A few hours later Tanya appeared by my side. I looked up at her and she looked concerned.

"What going on" I asked

"There's a car just turned onto the property, cars around here are few and far between so they tend to catch my attention" she sat down close to my side " It's probably somebody lost and looking for directions. I figured I'd wait out here and send them on their way" she sounded like she was trying to reassure me, or reassure herself.

"You could have waited by the front door"

Tanya looked a little sheepish

"Okay spill" I demanded.

"I'm not really sure what it is Bella. But with something unknown coming I felt the need to be near you, to make certain you are not threatened in any way"

I leant against her shoulder as I processed this information.

We sat together watching the point where the winding 5 mike long drive emerged from the woods that surrounded the front and sides of the house.

After some time I began to hear the sounds of an approaching engine However the car that appeared was the last thing that either of us expected. After several minutes of waiting the car that emerged was Charlie's cruiser. I gasped and jumped to my feet as the car pulled up near the front door and Charlie got out.

I walked round the side of the house to meet him

"Dad what are you doing up here"

"I could ask you the same thing bells."

I suddenly realised that I hadn't told him I was leaving forks

"Shoot I didn't tell you I was leaving forks did I"

"No you didn't. I hadn't been able to reach you on your phone for days but I figured you were just busy. But this morning in the mail I received an announcement saying that you and Edward had called off the wedding. Blindsided would be an understatement. When I still couldn't reach you or Edward on your cells I went to the Cullen's house to see you only to be told you weren't there. When I questioned Carlisle he wouldn't tell me anything he apologised but said he really didn't fee able to say anything as he didn't know what you wanted me to know. He said I should keep trying to call you."

Charlie looked mad. But worse than that he also looked disappointed and worried.

"I'm so so sorry dad. So much has happened recently that I totally forgot about calling you."

It must have been clear on my face how sorry I was because he didn't carry on

"It's ok bells, I forgive you. But I could really do with some answers here."

"I kn…. Wait. If Carlisle didn't tell you where I was how did you find me"

Now it was Charlie who looked sheepish.

"Well. I.. I sort of put a tracker in your phone"

I glared at him

"Only So I'd be able to find you if something ever happens to you, I swear this is the first time I've used it. Honestly "

I carried on glaring

"Come on bells I didn't make a big deal about you not telling me about all of this" I gave him a final glare then ran forward and hugged him tightly. He returned the hug with gusto.

"So why are you up here" he asked.

Come round and sit on the porch and we can talk"

I tried to think very quickly. I needed an explanation that would satisfy Charlie without giving too much away.

Tanya seemingly sensing my tension squeezed my hand subtlety and stuck close to my side. We all sat on the porch swing

"So bells. Where do you want to start. Has something happened with you and Edward"

I took a deep breath.

"Well yes actually it has. We've split up."

"What happened. Are you ok" Charlie looked stricken. After the way I reacted last fall I could imagine why.

"Don't panic. I'm fine. we broke up amicably"

Charlie relaxed slightly and some of the tension left his shoulders.

"But why have you broken up"

I knew I couldn't answer that with any grain of honesty.

"We just have dad"

"But why" Charlie pushed ". And why won't you tell me"

This was getting tricky.

"It's not that I don't want to tell you dad it's just that I can't"

"What's that supposed to mean"

I searched for a way to give an honest explanation without saying too much.

"The truth is Edward left me. And It's not my place to tell the reasons. They are Edwards reasons and they are really good reasons, I understand totally and don't hold any grudge against him or his reasons but it's for him to decide who knows"

He didn't look satisfied but thankfully he moved on

"So what's happening with you and Edward now.?"

I could read between the lines well enough to know what he was really asking.

"The Cullen's are staying in forks, my relationship with the rest of Edwards family hasn't changed, and Edward and I are remaining friends."

"And your sure your ok?"

"I'm sure dad, don't worry I'm not going to have another breakdown. I haven't lost what I lost before. I know now that it was the disappearance of the Cullen family as a whole that pushed me over the edge last time and that hasn't happened this time. The Cullen's are all still in my life."

Charlie looked slightly reassured. But only slightly.

"Then why have you run away? Why have you come up here. And who are these people you are staying with."

"I haven't run away I just need some time away from forks for a while. This is Tanya. Her and the others here are Carlisle's extended family," that was a reasonable answer I figured. "I just need a bit of distance, I'll come back soon enough."

"But why come here. Why didn't you go stay with your mum"

"Because I really didn't want her fussing over me constantly. And the family here know the full story. They know Edwards reasons. I can talk about everything with them without betraying Edwards confidence"

I needed to be careful I was skating on very thin ice.

"I'm really not sure about you being so far away alone with strangers"

"I'm not alone jacob is here with me" I reassured him quickly.

"JACOB!?"

Oh Shit I'd also forgotten that Jacob was meant to be "missing" I was just getting Charlie calmed down and now I'd gone and put my foot squarely back in it again. I had to think fast.

"Yeah after Edward and I split up I went straight to la push, I don't really know why but I went to Jacobs house and I ran right into him. He'd just come home. It was the most amazing coincidence."

I could tell Charlie wasn't convinced. So could Tanya.

"How about we all go inside and I'll make some hot drinks" she offered quickly. Standing and offering a hand to help me up.

"Hot Chocolate?" She offers Charlie.

"Ooh that would be great thanks…."

"Tanya." Tanya reminded im holding out her hand for him to shake. Come on in. I mentally thanked Tanya. Charlie was successfully distracted, at least for now. Tanya and I walked into the house and Charlie followed. I stopped in the entryway to take off my coat and hang it up Charlie copied me placing his coat and shoes where I placed mine. without turning I led the way into the living room while tanya headed for the kitchen, Charlie followed after me.

I rounded the sofa closest to the door then turned to face Charlie, he stopped in his tracks, his eyes widened and his colour changed from normal to pink then to red then finally to purple. I looked down to where Charlie was staring and realised my third screw up. the long sleeved purple top I had chosen that morning was figure hugging and my new bump was very visible and unmistakable in nature. I'd actually chosen this shirt because of the way it showed off my new bump. A choice I was heartily Regretting at the moment.

I was mentally chewing myself out while watching Charlie carefully. I wasn't sure if I was waiting for him to have a heart attack or start yelling, but as I watched his face moved a few shades closer to it's normal colour.

Tanya came back into the room just then. She placed a tray on the table picked up a mug and pressed it into Charlie's hands he look a large gulp.

Tanya returned to the tray and passed another mug to me. I've mixed in your nutritional supplement" she said with a pointed look "you will have to tell me if the taste is alright"

I took a taste and cottoned on quickly. My mug had a fair amount of blood in it. Chocolate blood, Surprisingly it was pretty good. I relayed this fact to Tanya and she smiled. Tanya guided me to the two seater sofa and sat down beside me. I looked at Charlie who was another few shades closer to normal and looked like he was trying to speak. I waited patiently

"Are you pregnant," he choked out at last "and don't lie to me"

I knew lying wasn't an option without him having to say it. Not with the evidence staring him in the face.

"Yes dad I am"

"I assume it's Edwards"

"Yes"

"Does he know"

"No not yet"

"Is this part of the reason you came up here"

"No I only found out after I arrived here"

He looked at me sceptically

"Honestly dad"

He nodded once in recognition of the honesty evident on my face Then full on dad mode kicked in.

"How far along are you, when is it due, have you seen a doctor, WHY didn't you tell me"

I hesitated

"Say something Bella before I go mad.

"Those are really hard questions to answer dad"

"How can they be hard questions. How are any of these questions hard. For example what's difficult about telling me your due date."

"It's all very complicated and tangled up in a lot of secrets that aren't mine to tell" I blurted out. Tanya patted my arm.

Charlie growled in exasperation, turned away, and walked past the other sofa to look out of the back window.

Outside was a large lawn boarded by more woodland

I turned and watched Charlie watch the wind play in the trees.

Suddenly some of the trees shook as a massive ball of fur rolled out of the wood and across the lawn.

Oh goodness, I thought groaning internally. Charlie seeing one of Garrett and Jacobs games was the last thing I needed right now.

The ball of fur exploded as Jacob leapt to his feet and turned to see Garrett dart from between the trees. Jacob leapt at Garret and knocked him onto his back, Jacob's front paws landing on his shoulders

Charlie gasped and turned as if looking for a way outside, his hand reaching for the gun on his hip. In Less than a second Tanya, darted up from the sofa and placed herself in front of him with a hand gently on his chest

"Don't"

"That man is about to be killed" he said aghast

"He's fine, trust me," Charlie looked at her in disbelief. Tanya sighed. " just watch"

Reluctantly Charlie turned his attention back to the window.

Jacob had landed his leap badly and Garret threw him off with ease. Darting around his side he made a leap at Jacob and wrapped his arms around Jacobs hindquarters but before he had a good grip Jacob bucked and sent Garret flying 40 feet into a tree. Garret twisted in mid air landing neatly on a branch about 30 feet from the ground. Grinning he jumped at Jacob who dodged out of the way. Garret landed in a roll but before he could gain his feet Jacob head butted him sending him rolling across the ground. Tongue lolling Jacob bounded after him like a dog after a football, Garret came out of the wild roll on his back and as Jacob pounced he brought his feet up and kicked hard into Jacobs underbelly using Jacob's own momentum to send him flying bottom over head. Jacob slammed upside down into a large tree, which shook violently with the impact, and dropped to the ground in an upside down heap. Garret leapt to his feet and danced away across the clearing. Jacob got to his feet and shook out his coat. Garret made a come get me gesture and sunk into a crouch. Jacob sank into a crouch in reply and then both took off at the same moment. They collided in the middle of the clearing with a boom that echoed off the trees and for a few moments nothing could be seen but flying limbs and fur as they battled for dominance. Suddenly they were still and Jacob once again had Garrett pinned but firmly this time, one paw planted on each of garrets limbs. For a second it looked like Jacob had won, then the sun came out. It hit the topples Garret and turned him into a cascade of shimmering blinding light. The light hit Jacob cleanly in the eyes and he flinched losing grip on Garret who rolled them both over and leapt to his feet. Jacob was still squinting trying but unable to see clearly. The sun went in again and the refracting light disappeared but it's effect had been enough., Garret leapt and landed on Jacobs back, Jacob tried to buck him off but Garrett pinned his legs to Jacobs side and his arms around Jacobs neck and pressed his teeth to Jacobs jugular.

Jacob stilled acknowledging garrets victory.

Garret jumped down grinning and walked to a tree at the edge of the clearing he picked up Jacobs shorts and turned to throw them to Jacob.

Jacob rose onto his back paws timing it perfectly so as the shorts came at him he caught them with human hands and pulled them on. Grinning he shoved Garrett playfully and headed towards the back door.

I looked at Charlie. He was watching the two men walk into the house and his face was unreadable.

"You only won because the sun came out"

"That sounds like a sore looser, blaming the sun"

"I had you pinned"

"That what you thought"

"I'll get you next time."

"Yeah yeah that's what you said last time"

As he came in Jacob saw Charlie and froze just inside the doorway

"crap. Charlie"

Garret almost bumped into his back but stopped in time and walked round Jacob

"Who's the new human" he said spotting Charlie

"That's Charlie. Bella's dad"

"Does he know"

"He does now" I was the one who replied "he's been watching you both through the window"

"Double crap" added Jacob
