Day 14 early evening

Bella POV

Tanya and I stood in the front doorway watching as the cruiser pulled out of sight, Charlie had stayed with us for the last couple of days and by this afternoon he had actually looked comfortable, I'd watched as his fear and then apprehension had faded away and he began to accept my choices and my new family.

Before he had left he had promised to keep the Cullens secret and to not to say anything to anyone about the baby. Especially the Cullens. I wasn't worried about them finding out about the baby through a chance encounter with Charlie as Edward had told me once that Charlie's mind was almost as impenetrable As my own. He got ideas from Charlie. For example that he was thinking about fishing or that he was happy or worried, that he believed what he was hearing or he didn't. Solid thoughts only came through clearly when Charlie thought them particularly strongly like the time he had thought "she can tell Rene herself" in response to me getting engaged.

I had really enjoyed having Charlie around for a few days and the last minutes before had left had been emotional.

"I'm gonna miss you bells, not seeing you every day has been hard and you're so far away up here"

"I know dad. But I'm just the other end of the phone. You've got the number for here now. And besides I'd already moved out"

"I still saw you plenty. And besides It seems different now I know the truth, you're mixed up in some really strange things"

"I know dad, it was weird for me when i first learnt about it all too, but you will get used to it soon enough. I'm glad I've told you it's nice having you know about it all" and I reallly meant that

"I'm glad I'm in on the secret too, as weird as it all is"

I smiled at him and he pulled me in for one last hug.

"Well I'd best get going before I end up deciding to stay" he chuckled at his own joke, gave Tanya a breif hug and got into the cruiser. Turning it round carefully on the large drive.

As the cruiser turn out of sight we went back inside and made our way to the kitchen to make dinner.

Day 15

Meanwhile in forks.

Jasper's pov

It was 1am as Edward picked the lock. On an office this small there wasn't any alarm. It didn't take him long before the door swung open.

3 hours ago.

Carlisle's pov.

The front door crashed open. I leant up and looked towards the wall of my office and the source of the sound, Only one member or the family ever made a racket like that coming in.

"Alice" Edward growled from beneath me. I turned my Attention back to him

"I don't care if she's in the house, not this time" I told him firmly.

"You're usually soo self conscious" he grinned. "Not that I'm complaining" the grin morphed into a leer, I wiped it off his face with a kiss.

"Where is everyone," sang Alice from down below,

I broke the kiss just long enough to growl "Ignore her" Edward complied. Both our phones which were on the floor in our trouser pockets buzzed a message received tone but neither of us reached for them.

Over the next several minutes the back door opened and shut as the others responded to the summons but we paid them no heed.

Our phones buzzed again as Alice tried again to find out where we were.

"Ignore it" this time it was Edward who growled. I was too busy to reply.

"OH SERIOUSLY" cried Alice suddenly.

That got our attention. I surfaced "What's she thinking?" I demanded. Edward concentrated.

"Oh shit" he said trying unsuccessfully to wriggle free, "she's worked out where we are"

half a second later the office door opened and in marched a scowling Alice with her hands on her hips and…..her eyes tightly shut. Edward and I couldn't help but giggle.

"It's not funny. I saw quite enough in my vision thank you very much I have no desire to see it live"

That shut us up.

"I've been to see Jenks to collect the documents. Kindly get dressed and come downstairs" she turned and marched out. Edward flopped backwards onto the couch and groaned.

"Interrupted AGAIN. This is getting beyond a joke."

"I concur" I said "but what is definitely not funny is that Alice said all of that loud enough for the others to hear." Edward groaned again.

"We had best get down there" he grumbled clambering off the sofa and picking up his abandoned shirt and trousers.

For the reason behind Edwards comment of "again", what was happening before Alice entered, and the uncensored version of the above scene see my story coitus interruptus, (although I might not have the chapter up when this chapter posts) it's only posted on ao3 as it's MA rated.

Edwards pov

We followed the sound of voices to the dining room, which for our family was the meeting room. As we entered Emmet wolf whistled and rose elbowed him hard in the ribs. Carlisle ignored him and sat down at the head of the table, I headed for my usual seat but paused when Esme cleared her throat quietly. I looked at her and she nodded towards the seat on Carlisle's right side, her seat, it was empty and she was sitting one seat further down the table. I looked at her closely and she just nodded towards the seat again. her meaning was clear without my gift, the seat on Carlisle's right hand was my place now. I smiled at her in thanks and sat down feeling slightly self conscious, everyone's eyes were on the three of us.

Even though we considered ourselves a family we were still a vampire coven. And vampire covens have hierarchies. carlisle was the leader of our coven, Esme was the second in command, and the rest of us were equal under the head pair. We hadn't discussed if this would change when I took Esme place as Carlisle's mate but it was abundantly clear what had just happened. In surrendering her seat to me Esme had given her place in the hierarchy Of our coven over to me and had dropped into third place with the others equal below her. And in not objecting the others had agreed to this change.

The silence stretched for a few moments longer then carlisle cleared his throat to gather everyone 's attention.

"I assume you have the documents from Jenks" he said looking at Alice. She nodded and picked up an envelope that was sitting in front of her. She opened the envelope and handed the documents to carlisle. He inspected each one carefully before looking up.

"All here and all perfect as always" he murmured as he examined them. Then louder "Excellent. Now we just need a plan for deployment." He looked towards Rosalie.

"We've already discussed the computer elements, are you prepared?"

"Yes I've found out what computer systems the offices use and researched specific methods to break into each system."

"Good"

He looked round.

"I think we should all go together. Edward you will handle gaining entry and will stand guard outside, I'm putting you on guard duty because of your gift, you can ensure there isn't anyone in the immediate area and give advance warning if anyone comes near. Rosalie and Esme, you deal with the computers, Alice and Jasper, you handle changing, your, Edward, and rosalie's records, Emmett and I will change the rest . location wise We will go nearest to furthest. Is everyone alright with that plan?"

Everyone murmured their approval. carlisle sorted the documents quickly then he started by handing out a full set of new driving licences, Jenks was clever, Carlisle, Esme and my licences were dog eared, worn and slightly discoloured at the edges as if they had spent over a decade is a wallet, the others looked newer but not brand new. we all quickly switched them out & esme collected up the old ones. then carlisle handed a Sheaf of papers to Alice who stowed them carefully in a bag which she slung over her shoulder. Carlisle put his share of the documents into a briefcase and stood. We all followed his lead. We left the house on foot, cars would draw too much attention. it didn't take long for us to reach our first destination.

Jasper's pov

It was 1am as Edward picked the lock on the town records office. In a town this small no building had an alarm. It didn't take him long before the door swung open.

Edward took up a position by the front door, the rest of us crept down the hall then split into two groups each heading in different directions, Alice, carlisle, Emmett and I crept towards the main file room, we slipped inside then split up again, Alice and I made our way to the draw containing Alice's records, we found her file quickly, we removed the birth certificate, drivers licence documents, address history, family history and adoption record, replacing them all with the new ones from jenks. Across the room Carlisle and Emmet were holding Carlisle's file. Emmett removed his records including marriage certificate, and employment history, replacing them all with new documents that contained different details and added an extra document, both files were carefully replaced, both pairs then moved on working quickly through each family member's file changing the documents that conflicted with the new story. finishing the Job within 10 minutes we left, taking with us the documents we had removed.

Rosalie pov

Esme and I turned into the office as the others carried on down the hallway. I booted up the computer and made short work of the security system. I hacked into the digital records and deleted several documents being careful to leave no trace that they had ever existed, then I inserted new records from a flash drive forging the date stamps to make it seem that the records had been created several years back. Then I made sure there was no record of me making the additions, job done I closed down the computer replaced the chair and mouse as I had found them and we went to wait for the others by the front door.

Carlisle pov

We crept back towards the front door and met up with the others. Edward re locked the door and we moved on.

At the hospital we followed a similar pattern, here, each person's medical history was altered to show a different birth location and history, my employment record and medical history were altered to change several details and rosalie altered the computer files to match.

The last stop was the school, here the copy of all the birth certificates were switched as was the schools copy of adoption and fostering files. Alice also added correspondence records between the headmaster and Carlisle setting up the special circumstances that had been made for Edward to attend the school both at his age and "under cover", when I first described this plan Esme had pointed out one problem in the fact that the headmaster would of course have no memory of either the communication or making the special arrangements but we hoped that the letters would be enough to convince him that he had simply forgotten all about it in the rush of a busy job. Rosalie altered the same records on the school system and added in scan copies of the correspondence once again forging the time codes this time to make it seem that the scans had been made just after Edwards admission to the school. Finished with that as well we slipped out and went home.

Day 16

Edward PoV

Emmet Jasper Alice and I were standing outside the town diner looking through the window. This was the tricky part of Alice's going public plan. We had to find somebody we knew well enough to ask to share a table with who was also prone to gossip and in a position to spread gossip quickly. We were quietly debating the pros and cons of different people when deputy chief swan pulled up in his cruiser. He got out walked into the diner and sat a the last empty table.

"How about Charlie" asked Alice.

"What?!" Spluttered Emmet

"Hear me out. Edward and I know him well enough to sit with him, he's known to gossip a lot and anything that gets gossiped about at the station spreads across the town like wildfire."

"And what happens when he gets up in arms about us lying to his daughter?"

"But we didn't lie to his daughter, bella was in on the secret but kept it to protect you," she said it so scinserly that for a second the others were taken in.

"And when he calls Bella to see if she really knew and she doesn't know what he's talking about"

Alice's sighed dramatically

"Give me some credit, I sent bella an email last week telling her what we are doing and the new story. I explained what she was supposed to have known all along and asking her to play along with us. She wrote back and said that of course she would help and that she thought my plan was brilliant"

"You think of everything"

"Well I knew that the story would get to the chief sooner or later and that he would call bella. I thought it best that she say she knew to save the chief coming after you with a baseball bat"

Emmet chucked. "Leave it to Alice to not miss the smallest of details."

I smiled at them both

"Alright then the chief it is."

We turned and walked in to the cafe
