Here you have a new chapter! Hope you enjoy it!
Next day, Harriet woke up a little disoriented and felt confused until she realized that she was really in Auradon.
It felt strange to wake up without the faint sound of the waves hitting the Jolly Roger and the smell of fish.
She suddenly felt a pang of nostalgia, what would Sammy be doing? would the twins, Squeaky and Squirmy, finally attend school with the other kids instead of being ship-schooled? what of the rest of her crew?
At least she had Big Murph with her at Auradon and she knew that he didn't need her to check up on him anymore, he was finally around people who would take advantage of his good heart. Her friend didn't deserve to grow up with Black Murph, who had become an even drunk man after so many years in their prison.
When the dark haired girl rolled on her back trying to gather enough will to get up she realized that her roommate was already up and trying (rather unsuccessfully) to comb her long hair. After a minute or so of watching those unsuccessful attempts she got annoyed and so she asked "What are you doing?"
"Braiding my hair" Claudine responded in a frustrated tone and then added in a mumble "Or trying to"
The raven haired girl sighed and decided to sit on her bed, she thought about getting out of the bed but the covers were comfy and warm, then she raised an eyebrow and asked: "You didn't do your hair in the Isle?"
The other girl looked at herself at the mirror while running her fingers through her hair and said "Father paid Lady Tremaine to teach me how to braid it when I was five since he wouldn't do it but I'm too nervous right now…it seems that every time I braid it one or two strands of hair get out"
Harriet understood and pressed her lips before saying something that she wouldn't have said to anyone who wasn't part of her crew "Do you want me to help?"
"Would you?" The former bell ringer asked surprised and turned her head to her roommate, then squinted her eyes before adding another question "Why would you?"
"Your lack of advance in braiding your hair and your huffs are stressing me out" The pirate said while getting out of the bed, she felt a little cold running through her legs and considered backing on her offer but walked towards her roommate "So the sooner this thing is over the better"
The other girl just nodded uneasily and Harriet sighed and started to comb and braid it.
"How do you know to do this?" Claudine asked after Harriet finished "I mean you wear your hair down…"
There was a silence.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want" The blonde said quietly and started smoothing her skirt, if there was something that her father taught her it was to keep her clothes clean and without any wrinkle.
The pirate shook her head and said: "We are going to live here for a year or so…we have to learn to be friends" She stated almost savoring the last word and thought that it seemed too strange for her "My mother used to braid my hair when I was younger…for commodity, and when she died I had to learn" Then she added while looking at her work "I haven't done this since I was ten…I'm surprised that it looks good"
"No offense, but I never thought you would be this…nice" Claudine said in a shy tone.
Harriet gave her an uneasy smile and said: "Since we are here, we have to try to be like them…it may be the best way to have a better life" Then she added in a thought "And to convince the king to bring more kids"
Then the pirate went to take a quick shower and then change her clothes, she chose her black (actually grey since it was too old) jeans, a grey shirt and her favorite red leather jacket. For a moment she thought about the comment that Claudine made about her hair, she always wore it down. She then looked at the crimson bandana she had packed, it had been her brother's along time ago, and decided to use it as a headband.
"It's…it looks nice" The other girls commented politely, her father was not one to comment on others appearance, vanity was a sin, but he had taught her some manners since she was a lady.
"Now you can actually see my face?" The pirate asked teasingly which made the other girl nod a little. When she looked at Claudine she couldn't help but notice the difference in the choose of clothing as the blonde was wearing a grey long skirt, a white button-up shirt and a black cardigan.
"What?" Claudine asked in a bit distressed tone when she noticed that Harriet was looking at her.
"Nothing, it's just that I had never seen black clothes that were actually black" The pirate said shrugging
"My father bought some black dye for our clothes" The blonde relaxed a little, that was true. Claude Frollo liked his tunics very black and without any discoloration.
"Let's grab some breakfast"
*******At the Dinner Hall******
Anthony and Hal were the first ones of the new VKs to arrive to get breakfast and just like the night before they decided to sit on a table that was far from the others, both were wearing their best clothes as they knew that their families had come from nobility no matter what that Princess Audrey Rose said, everyone knew that on the Isle and that was what mattered.
Mal and Evie had walked by and greeted them a little bit awkwardly but since nothing had happened yet, they would give them a little bit of trust though they would still keep a close eye on all of them…for a while, they weren't sure about how long, maybe it would be for the rest of their lives.
The fae looked discreetly at them and noticed that nothing had changed about Anthony's appearance, he still seemed to be using custom tailoring instead of the rags they sent to the Isle of the Lost, his leather coat was still cut perfectly and his jeans still the right dark wash; "Lord Tremaine" was using a red violet shirt while Hal was using a navy blue shirt and a white jacket with grey-ish jeans.
"They dressed up today" Evie commented softly when they reached their usual table, which was just in the middle of the Dinner Hall.
"They are supposed to be of noble blood" Mal scoffed "Their families don't have any status here…" She noticed Evie's hurt look and knew that it had reminded her of their first day at Auradon and so she added "According to Audrey"
"I suppose" Her blue haired friend muttered and then lit up when she saw Dizzy and Hermie walking in with Jace, Harry, Big Murph and Eddie.
Evie was supposed to drop the younger girls at their classes at the other side of the campus where Auradon Middle School was while Mal guided the older kids to their classes with Carlos. Apparently Jay was much too occupied with his training and stuff, after all he was now captain of the Tourney team (to Chad's chagrin) since Ben had left the team and he was helping Lonnie with the R.O.A.R. team (again to Chad's chagrin).
Soon their other friends joined, Ben was particularly happy and planted a kiss on Mal's cheek, the fae noticed though that he was carrying a bunch of papers that seemed to be really old and got curious and decided to ask later.
Meanwhile at the newcomers' table after a little while Harriet and Claudine arrived, soon followed by Diego, Hadie and Yzla.
"Where is Henry?" Yzla asked when she sat down, she was wearing a light purple short dress and a pair of cyan earrings. Her mother didn't care much about her children but when she heard that one of her children, and her favorite, was going to Auradon she gave them to her.
"He overslept" Diego snickered, he was wearing his usual black leather jacket, red shirt and black jeans "He apparently isn't used to get up early…maybe that's why we didn't see him often at school"
"Henry also snores a lot" Hadie commented, he was using a black shirt and blue jeans, his blue hair was lit and that made the others a little bit nervous "I almost didn't get to sleep last night because of that" Then added "Where's my sister?"
"She didn't oversleep but is busy getting ready, apparently you are not the only one with flame hair" His sister's roommate snorted.
Then the waiters came in but they set up a buffet this time with varied pastries, hot drinks, fruits and juices. The newcomers were amazed to see that quantity and quality of food, and had to be motioned by the waiters to pick up a plate.
" I think I can get used to be feed three times a day" Diego muttered while he ate a bunch of grapes, his father had told him about them and always looked out for some when the shipments arrived to the docks.
"Maybe being good is not that bad" Anthony commented mostly to himself but his companions heard him and laughed.
They had a quiet breakfast and tried not to care about the looks they received, mostly from princes and princesses, but they also heard one or other positive comment and some people who passed by gave them a kind smile.
That felt strange.
Soon the breakfast finished and Fairy Godmother and announced that the school year officially started and called the previous year class presidents to give them their classmates' schedules, then she walked towards their table.
She seemed a little bit uneasy but she still smiled at them before saying in a kind tone "Mal has your schedules already, you have been signed up to six classes and an extra one…Remedial Goodness 101"
"And I guess that it's a news class?" Hal asked half-mockingly.
"No" The Fairy Godmother said "Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos have already taken it"
"Figures" Anthony muttered and received a nudge in his ribs by Harriet.
"And Freddie?" Yzla asked, she was one of her few "friends" back in the Isle and had been curious about what happened to her after arriving to Auradon and getting pardoned by king.
"She will be taking it with you" The older woman responded and then added with a bright smile "Hope you have a great year at Auradon Prep!"
Mal walked towards them and simply handed them their schedules, then she waited for a few seconds before they had any questions.
"Life skills without magic?" Hadie asked surprised.
"Yes, magic is banned in Auradon" The fae explained in a bored tone, she had forgotten about telling them that and now she regretted it.
"Why?" Yzla asked surprised, she had assumed that there had to be at least some magic users in Auradon.
"I don't make the rules here" Mal responded raising her hands "It's just that they think that real magic comes from books and stuff like that…"
"And now surely they don't want something like the Coronation Incident happening again…" Anthony said in a smooth tone and hinting at the fact that Mal had tried to steal the wand.
"What are you implying, Tremaine?" The fae's eyes glinted green, she knew that it had been a bad move (for Auradon) the fact that she and her friends had admitted that they only accepted the invitation to accomplish their plan of stealing Fairy Godmother's wand.
"Nothing…my lady"
For some reason Mal felt that this time he had addressed her by her title just to annoy her and then said "Follow me, I guess the Seniors first class is Auradon History"
Anthony, Diego, Claudine, Harriet and Hal raised their hands, that relieved the blonde girl as she was worried to be alone during the day and when Hal gave her a smile she got a little bit more realized but then she felt bad about smiling back at him as it could have been interpreted as flirtation.
"Hadie and I have…Life Skills without magic" Yzla said "Since we are juniors…I guess Melinoe and Henry are in this class too"
Mal nodded "Carlos will guide you there, Jace and Harry are in that class too"
Yzla and Hadie got up and Carlos, who was already at the door with his former "minions", motioned them to follow him which they did after muttering some kind of goodbye.
"I have a question" Harriet said to Mal and the fae looked at her "We don't have any notebooks or that stuff…"
"Oh, I thought that they already gave them to you" Mal said "We will have to stop by the Hallway first"
*******Outside the History Classroom********
They stopped by the Hallway were Doug was waiting for them, he muttered something about not reminding him that he was in charge of the new kids' school materials and Mal just shrugged. Then she guided them to their first class and she said "Jay, Evie and I are in this class, if you have any question…"
"We just ask you?" Hal guessed.
"Exactly…but you can also ask Lonnie" She pointed with her head to a girl with black hair and training clothes that was walking towards the classroom with Jay, who was also wearing training clothes.
Then they noticed that there were two other persons with them, a pair of blond boys, one they recognized quickly. It was Zephyr, who was using a simple yellow T-shirt and jeans, and when Claudine realized that he was there she gulped and hid behind Hal, who snickered "It's just a guy"
She squirmed and said "That's why I'm hiding"
"At least she isn't running away" Mal thought and tried to be nice to the blonde by saying "If it makes you feel better, he won't be in most of your classes, he is mostly in AP ones"
Anthony rolled his eyes and then noticed that the other blond was Chad Charming, then he realized that the other boy recognized him too and they both stiffened but since they had been raised better than to be rude (or totally rude in Anthony's case) … they greeted each other.
"Good morning" Chad said first holding out his hand to shake with his step-cousin.
"Morning" He said and shook his hand with a strong grip that made the prince wince.
"Nice morning we have" Cinderella's son didn't release Anthony's hand and made his grip stronger.
"I noticed, we don't have much sun in the Isle" The Tremaine commented looking directly to his step-cousin's eyes "But you surely know that"
"No, I didn't but I do know that your Grandmother-"
"We are not doing this" Mal interrupted raising her hands "If you have any problem with each other leave it for the weekends since you will be spending them together"
Chad rolled his eyes and released Anthony's hand and said "I'm not looking forward to that"
"Me neither" The dark haired boy said curtly and walked into the classroom with Hal and Claudine in tow, then Mal rolled her eyes and walked in too with Jay and Lonnie.
Chad then noticed that Harriet (but he didn't remember her name at the moment) was looking at him attentively and that made him uncomfortable, for a moment the boy thought that she was analyzing him and would lunge at him at any moment but she simply said "Nice jersey"
"Thanks…" He said quickly with a smile happy that someone had noticed his good taste in clothing but then when he realized that he was speaking to a VK he muttered "I guess…"
"But you have some toothpaste in you lip" She added with a smirk before entering the class and sitting beside Claudine and behind Anthony and Hal, they sat on the corner trying not to be noticed.
After a few minutes, the teacher entered with a box and put in his desk, then he said: "For the new ones my name is Mr. Button and as you can assume I'm the Auradon History teacher" Then he pointed at the box "And now for everyone…here I have the books we will be using this semester, it would be way to remember for my old students and a way to catch up for the new ones"
Then he proceeded to give everyone a book and when he finished he said "Open your books at page 10 and read the first chapter in silence, ten minutes before the class ends I will be asking questions"
Hal who had never been a book person sighed and read "The Whole History of Auradon". He scoffed, as if they never learned about that but continued to read. The first chapter was about Snow White and Evil Queen, he looked discreetly at Evie, who had just arrived, and saw that the blue haired girl was having some trouble reading the chapter.
He shrugged it off, she must have listened to the story millions of times and he couldn't understand why would she be uncomfortable.
