Rory stretched lazily in bed as she woke up from her nap. After the shower she was exhausted from everything that happened and decided a nap was what she needed, and she did feel slightly better. She grabbed her cell phone and saw it was almost 6 and she slept for almost two hours. Knowing dinner would be ready soon she slowly got up and went to brush her teeth and hair. As she looked in the mirror, she couldn't help but smile at the reflection of her growing bump and rubbed her hand over it. She received a swift kick to her hand, and she let out a laugh. Hello baby G she whispered as she continued to rub her stomach. She loved the way the baby always moved when she rubbed her stomach or read stories out loud. Lane had given her a CD of music that was supposed to help the babies brain grow and she loved feeling the baby move with the music. After she finished in the bathroom she walked to the closet and slipped on a pair of leggings and a large sweater. She didn't have anyone coming over so wanted to be comfortable. She slipped on a pair of Uggs and walked downstairs to see what the cook, Livy, had prepared. She was still getting used to having someone cook her meals and clean the house, but it was a blessing that she was thankful for since it allowed her to focus on writing her book.
Her book was something completely different from what she had started with. Writing it helped her come to some realizations about her relationship with her mother. It also helped her think about the mistakes she had made in her life. As she wrote, the story morphed into a non-fiction tale and mainly focused on her and not the relationship between mother and daughter like she originally intended. It was a story about growing up in two different worlds and never really knowing where you belong. She was able to do a "re-write" and play up characters and say things she always wished she had. She had reached out to a few acquaintances to get recommendations for literary agents. Meetings were set up with a few to determine the best fit and she was looking forward to what happened next.
While Jess had originally encouraged the idea, he was not receptive to the new direction of a non-fiction story. He argued and tried to push her writing her autobiography. As much as she had thought he had grown up his actions reminded her about the boy he used to be, never willing to listen to other thoughts or opinions. Lorelai had also told him about the pregnancy and his views and opinions were unwelcome and unwanted. It seemed to both Lorelai and Jess, Logan was always the villain and forced her to do things she didn't want. He told her he was still in love with her, wanted to help her discover who she used to be and she told him he was in love with a 17-year-old girl that had grown up and changed. Granted all of her decisions weren't the best but it was her life and the only one she needed to make happy was herself, she was just sad she didn't realize that sooner. After that conversation right after Rory had moved into this house they had not spoken to each other.
"Hey Livy," Rory called out as she walked into the kitchen. "Something smells amazing!"
The chef laughed as Rory sat down on a chair at the island. In all the households she had worked in, working for Rory was the job she always hoped to find. Her employer was always gracious and spoke to everyone who worked for her as people. There were always kind words and thanks and she rarely complained.
"I made a pot roast. You said something a few days ago about craving it. It will also give you leftovers since I won't be in this weekend. I also put together a salad for you and dessert is a surprise."
"That sounds amazing!" Rory replied with a large smile. "Your brothers wedding is this weekend?"
Livy smiled, "Yes, it is and thank you again for giving me the time off last minute. I also made a lasagna for you and it's in the fridge along with the homemade garlic butter you like, there is also a loaf of bread and I stocked the fridge with the blood orange yogurt you like and lots of fruits and veggies. "
"No problem," Rory replied and laughed a little at how much healthy food she had been eating. "Its family and that's what's important. And thank you so much for stocking everything. I would probably forget to eat while you are gone." Rory let out a laugh, thankful for this woman who kept her fed. "Oh, I almost forgot I have something for you. I'll be right back, and you can feed me!"
Rory got up from her seat and went back into the study to grab the gift she had gotten Linus, Livy's brother. Rory also had an envelope for Livy with upgraded accommodations at the hotel outside of New York that Linus was getting married at and a prepaid reservation for the spa that was located there. Livy took such good care of her and she wanted to give her a small token of thanks. She hadn't made it to the study yet when the doorbell rang. She peeked out the window hoping to see who it was but couldn't tell. Thinking it was the gardener who was planning on stopping by one day this week to pick up his check she opened the door with a smile. She immediately froze when she took one look who was standing on the other side of the door and immediately tried to slam it closed.
"Oh no you don't," Logan stated as he moved in to stop the slamming door.
Rory felt the anger building up, "what the fuck are you doing here?" She could feel the panic and anxiety building.
"What do you think I'm doing here?" he asked trying to conceal his anger.
Rory closed her eyes trying to control the anxiety and took deep breaths like the therapist told her to. Nothing was working, she could feel him, smell him and it was playing havoc with her emotions. Not saying another word, she turned to go into the study and sank down into an oversized chair and placed her head between her knees.
Logan followed her into the study, not daring to let her out of his sight until they talked. When he saw her hunched over, he walked closer and heard her ragged breathing. He wanted to wrap her in his arms and comfort her, but that part was overruled by the part that was angry at her for keeping their child a secret.
Finn walked into the study not trusting his two friends alone together. Logan looked pissed and Rory looked on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
The three stayed silent in the study for minutes before there was a soft knock on the door, "Rory," Livy said as she walked in and immediately rushed to her employer. "Are you okay? Do I need to call Mr. Hayden?" She rubbed her hand along Rory's back. As Rory's breathing slowed, Livy shot a glare to the two men in the study. "Rory," she said again in a calm voice. "Do you want me to make the passion fruit tea you like?"
Rory slowly sat up and sent a small smile to the woman. "Yes, if you could please make the tea and call Christopher. Ask him to come over immediately?"
"Will you be okay if I leave you?" Livy asked eyeing the two men again. She had not seen Rory like this since two other men appeared at the door months ago, that visit sent Rory to the hospital for over a week and strict bed rest for almost a month.
"I'll be fine Livy," Rory replied and squeezed the woman's hand.
Livy slowly walked out of the room and went to the kitchen to call Christopher and make the tea.
The three sat in the study in silence, no one wanting to break the silence. Finally, Logan had had enough. "Who's Christopher?" he asked in a slightly menacing voice. "The man your trying to pass off as my child's father?"
Rory let out a scoff and sent Logan a death glare. "You don't have a child," Rory stated bitterly. Logan gestured to her stomach and Rory focused a steely gaze on him. "This is my child, mine alone."
"I'm sure a DNA test would prove otherwise," Logan countered.
"What Finn finds out I pregnant and now you want to save face, be involved?" Rory spat out. "I never told him you were the father so you can take your threats and get the hell out of my house."
"I'm not going anywhere until we discuss this!" Logan yelled back.
"Stop!" Finn interjected trying to calm everyone. "You two yelling at each other isn't going to solve anything."
Rory slowly stood up from her chair and walked over to the desk grabbing the folder of documents that she was looking at earlier and turned around. After a moment's hesitation she took a step forward to Logan and tossed them at him. "The check is still in there. I never cashed it so take it and get the fuck out of my house."
Both men were silent, neither knowing what to say. Logan slowly opened the folder in his lap and looked at the contents. The top piece of paper was a check in the amount of $2,000 from a law office that looked familiar. As he put it to the side, he started to read through the documents that threatened her if she ever contacted Logan again. He didn't get far into the papers before they heard a door slam and a man rushed into the study.
"Rory," he exclaimed as he ran to her. "I came as fast as I could. Are you okay?" Rory nodded and then he turned to face the two men and when he recognized Logan his face turned to ice. "You need to leave," he stated in a cold voice with a look of murder in his eyes. "You are not welcome in this house and if you come near my daughter again, I will make sure you pay. I don't give a fuck who you are or who your family is."
"Chris," Logan started now realizing that Christopher was Rory's dad who had previously liked him. But judging from the look on his face this man wanted to murder him. "I just found out Rory was pregnant. I knew nothing about this," he stated as he lifted up the folder.
"If it wasn't you, it was your family," Chris replied not relenting. "You better keep them away from my daughter and grandchild as well. If you or they send her back to the hospital I won't be responsible for my actions."
"Back to the hospital?" Logan questioned.
"Dad, I'm going to bed. Can you please ask Livy to put the food away? I'll eat later," Rory stated in a weak voice cutting off the conversation. "Can you show them out?"
Chris turned and looked at her taking in her pale face, "yeah kiddo. I'll check on you in a bit."
Rory nodded and didn't even spare a glance and Logan and Finn as she slowly walked out of the room holding her baby bump.
There was silence in the room as the three men stood uncomfortably.
"You both need to leave," Chris said in a firm tone. "She's been through enough and I won't let you hurt her again."
"With all due respect sir," Finn interjected, "Logan knew nothing about the baby until today when I called him."
Chris turned his icy glare to Finn and the younger man almost felt like cowering, "and how did you know she was pregnant, and it was his? Everyone has been told she went through Paris's clinic, that's the story we came up with after she received those."
"I saw her at a café," Finn replied. "She didn't say it was Logan's, but her words said enough. I called Logan to confront him and he happened to be in New York."
Logan let out a frustrated sigh as he studied the older man, "I just want to be in my kid's life."
Chris sighed and knew the man's pain. He had wanted to be in Rory's life as well but hadn't been strong enough to fight Lorelai. "I wont even consider talking to her about it until you figure out who is responsible for that. I don't care how much money I have to spend I will ensure you and your family can't get close enough to her or the child to do anymore damage. You may think your family has connections, but the Hayden's and the Gilmore's have plenty to."
Logan nodded but before anyone could say anything else, they heard Rory scream in pain and all three men sprinted out of the room. They made it quickly to the bedroom and saw Rory curled up in a ball with tears pouring from her eyes as she clutched her stomach. Chris grabbed his phone and called 911. Logan immediately went to comfort Rory and in her pain, she let him wrap his arms around her.
Please God Logan thought as he cradled the love of his life in his arms please let her and our child be okay.
The ambulance arrived within minutes and Rory was taken out of the house on a stretcher with Christopher jumping in with them He took one last look at Logan, "your not welcome at the hospital until you figure that out." The ambulance doors closed, and Finn and Logan watched it drive away.
