A/N: I am so sorry I haven't updated in so long. I got busy with family stuff, then school started, then I signed up for a play, then I had my dance show, then I had finals. I couldn't find much time to write. But I'm currently on break and it's a new year so I want to be more active in fandom so I'm getting back into writing. I probably won't commit to any writing schedule, I'll just write when I finish the chapters. Hope this chapter's worth the wait!

"Wow, you're bad at math."

"Light took all the intelligence. I got the coolness."

"I don't know about that." Sayu joked. "Can I just borrow your computer to look it up myself? You suck at explaining things."

"Go ahead," Haruto stood up, gesturing for Sayu to sit down in his chair. "I can just listen to some music."

So they did just that. Haruto played a White Zombie album in his headphones and Sayu did her math homework. In the past few years, Haruto really started to dedicate himself to annoying his father as much as possible, and an investment in Western culture has been his greatest ally. Soichiro Yagami was a Japanese federal officer, so he wasn't a big fan of his child listening to Western music. They shouldn't even be interested in that metal crap, but if they were they could at least listen to Japanese bands. Haruto liked Japanese bands, even sneaks out sometimes to watch shows, but it didn't piss his dad off enough.

Eventually, Light came home with his dad, Haruto didn't question why they were out together. He just went downstairs for dinner.

"Hi dad! How was work?"

"Well, as I was just discussing with Light, work's difficult. I've been assigned to a case with very little leads."

"Sounds tough. What kind of case?"

"Hoshi! You know your father's work is very classified." Sachiko chastised. "He already probably tells us more than he should, you don't need to ask more questions."

"It's fine, darling. I'm glad she takes interest in my work. A mass murder case."

"Oh. Well, the fact that you're able to confidently assume all these murders are connected should be helpful, at least."

"Actually, it's the opposite. They're all over Japan."

"Yakuza?"

"Sweetie, the Yakuza hasn't been active for a while." Sachiko said. "Now, can we please stop discussing crime at the dinner table?"

So they went on eating their dinner and Haruto said he wanted to talk to Light in his room.

"First of all, why were you with dad?"

"Just ran into him while I was walking home. We started talking about the case he's working on. I think it might be the Kira case."

"Really? Wouldn't that be a bit convenient? Like if he was working on investigating Kira, we'd have a direct link to the police. It'd be too easy."

"Well, there's only one way to find out." Light said, turning on his computer.

Both twins were good with technology, but Light was much better. For some reason, Light's interest in computers was seen as intelligent and Haruto's was seen as lazy. Haruto's computer is actually a hand-me-down from Light since their parents didn't want to buy him a computer. Light learned how to hack into other computers and he used that to his advantage with his father's laptop.

"Well based on these files it looks like he is investigating Kira."

"Do they have anything on us?"

"Well it seems the police hasn't caught on to the fact we're in Japan. Despite that, they have noted that the deaths only occur during a certain time period on weekdays and are all over the place on weekends. There aren't any notes related to that observation so it's possible they haven't came to any conclusions relating to it, but I'm sure there some have come to the conclusion that Kira's probably a student."

"Are you two sure you've read all the rules?" Ryuk asked, making Haruto jump.

"Well you only wrote five, it'd be pretty hard to skip one."

"Allow me to rephrase, are you sure you two considered the ramifications of each rule?"

Light opened the death note and read through the rules.

"The human whose name is written in this note shall die, need a face so people of the same name aren't affected, if a cause of death is written in 40 seconds it will happen, default cause of death is heart attack, and details can be written in 6 minutes and 40 seconds," Light read through the rules before looking up at Ryuk. "So what kind of details can I put?"

"That's for you guys to figure out. I'm just here to watch."

Light rolled his eyes but immediately switched his attention to Haruto.

"I think I have an idea."

"So for the past two days there has been one death every hour?" L asks through his microphone

"Like clockwork," Detective Yagami states. "And we had just pieced together that these deaths were happening only in specific time periods and Kira might be a student."

"Almost like he knew we had just come to that conclusion."

"Excuse me?"

"Oh, nevermind me. It's just a strange coincidence."

Such a strange coincidence that somebody working right here is connected to Kira. Maybe even is Kira. I'd better tell Watari to investigate the family of everyone related to the NPA.

"But we do now have confirmation that Kira can control the time of death for criminals and is using it to try to send some sort of message. Maybe he wants us to feel like we'll never be able to predict his next move."

"I mean, he did sort of show that, otherwise we wouldn't be having this meeting."

"Not a great observation, Matsuda."

"Sorry, chief."

"So are you saying that we should be worried about Kira trying to do stuff to the police?" Another officer asked.

"Highly unlikely. Considering the fact that Kira didn't kill me once I revealed myself to him, it appears that he is very interested in his reputation. Cop killers aren't usually seen as heros, which is clearly what Kira believes he is."

"But you're saying there's a possibility?" A man in the back questioned.

"It's impossible to rule anything out. We're all taking risks in this investigation."

"It seems some of us more than others," A third man grumbles. "We all know that all of Kira's victims had their names and faces publicly available before their death. We're police officers, all that information is publicly available about us. You just hide behind your computer screen and tell us what to do."

"I revealed my name and face on international television."

"Then why do you still hide behind 'L'? How do we know that you're really Lind L. Taylor. I haven't seen anything about 'you' since you were on TV. Prove you're really who you say you are and I'll go with whatever you say."

"Enough!" Chief Yagami shouted. "If you have any issues, address them to me, and don't interrupt any meetings with your complaints. You three, get out. I'll talk to you privately after this meeting."

There wasn't much discussed after that. Everyone was clearly anticipating the events that were going to take place after the meeting, so L ended the meeting when he ran out of things to say. Watari took his laptop and brought it to the hotel room L was staying in.

"Watari."

"Yes?"

"I'd like you to investigate everybody related to the NPA. The officers themselves, partners, children, close friends, any other family. Anyone who might have access to police information regarding Kira."
