Episode 74: Exploit
The beast was roaring thunderously inside the alleyway, looking at the heroes with wild rage. "This thing reminds me of Otto´s freaks." Lexi said while hovering with her jetpack.
"I was about to say the same." Ace was looking at the yellow reptilian eyes of the creature, he didn´t hesitate to shoot his laser vision at the monster, hitting its head, the monster didn´t emit any kind of sound, no growls, no groans, it only appeared to have gotten angrier. Ace gasped with frustration. "What?"
"Let me try!" Lexi shot her brain blast at the same spot, also making no damage to the beast, which let out a loud growl and ran towards the hovering Loonatics.
"Watch out!" Rev warned, they all hovered a few meters higher to avoid the sudden jumps of the beast, having their feet occasionally close to its jaws.
"Time for the heavy artillery!" Duck began to cook orbs and throw them at the red scaled monster with non stop while hovering backwards, exiting the alleyway along with his comrades, returning to the street. The light that the explosions of his orbs had created disappeared quickly, the monster had taken no damage at all. "Okay...he is invincible."
Slam roared, telling Duck he was wrong, he approached the monster using his tornado and tried to hit it, but Slam just kept spinning against the monster as if he was just doing so against a firm wall, not being able to cause any effect on it. The beast growled then got over its hind legs for a moment and threw a strong blow at Slam, who screamed all the way to a nearby building, destroying the wall, getting inside.
"Big guy!" Tech yelled then looked back at the beast. "Alright..." He landed and started to ready his powers. "How about some magnetism, ugly." Tech manipulated a bench that was at his right and ripped it from the sidewalk´s concrete, then did the same with a lamppost at his left side. He then backed the arm that controlled the bench and threw it with strength at the monster, letting out a gasp. The bench hit the monster´s head, but just as the previous attempts to hurt it, it was unsuccessful. "Fine, I got another trick for you!" He got the lamppost over the beast´s short neck and started to wrap it around it, trying to strangle the monster, tightening the lamppost´s fold. Tech hoped for the monster to start coughing, but nothing happened, Tech reached a point where he couldn´t bend the lamppost anymore, even if he was doing a lot of effort. "Boss...I´m out of ideas!" He gasped and released the lammpost as he got tired.
"Your turn, Rev!" Ace commanded, Rev nodded and ran rapidly towards the monster with his fist ready, he jumped when getting close enough and punched the monster on the face, which had no effect on it. Rev fell to the ground while rubbing his hand and groaning. "Gah! It´s like punching diamond or any kind of resistant material but I can´t think of more examples!" He stood up in a blink and flew backwards with his jetpack, getting among his comrades rapidly.
Ace grunted. "Lexi, couple blast?" He looked at his girlfriend with determination.
Lexi loaded her power. "But of course!" She shot towards the beast´s scaly head along with Ace, their powers merged right in the middle and the powerful beam started to hit the spot. The beast roared and began to run towards them, the ongoing beam of the couple wasn´t affecting the monster in any way. Lexi stopped shooting followed by her boyfriend, letting out a gasp of frustration. "What´s this guy made of?!"
"Maybe you should ask him, don´t you think?" Duck joked as he hovered next to her, the monster then jumped all of a sudden and tried to bite Duck but he reacted soon enough and teleported to the sidewalk.
"Oh, so close!" Lexi crossed her arms, pretending to be disappointed.
"Hey, you love me girl!" Duck complained then he looked at his side and his eyes widened when seeing the beast running towards him. "But I´m sure he doesn´..!" He activated his jetpack and hovered up several meters, managing to avoid the monster´s sudden tackle, getting it even more enraged.
Tech was thoughtful, switching his gaze between the beast, Rev and Duck. "Maybe..." He murmured to himself.
Ace noticed Tech´s pensiveness. "Tell me you got a brilliant idea for this." He said with a serious glare while approaching him with a brief hover.
"Yes...the energy halo, if Rev and Duck cage that thing inside it, the air around it will eventually become unbreathable...and the monster will suffocate." Tech explained. "In theory."
"That´s all we got now." Ace looked for his two avian comrades. "Rev! Duck!" The two heroes approached their boss with the help of their jetpacks. "Tech says we can kill it with your energy halo."
"How?" Duck inquired.
Ace looked at Tech, wanting him to explain, but Tech sighed and looked at Duck. "No time to explain, Rev would understand in a second but I can´t say the same about you… so just get down there and kill that beast!" Tech pointed at the monster, who was growling at the heroes, waiting for any of them to come down.
"Come on, I think I figured it out!" Rev told Duck then landed over the street again.
Duck growled and followed Rev, deactivating his jetpack when his feet reached the ground. "The team´s wonder boy insulted again, what a surprise." He got a pair of orbs ready while walking towards the roaring beast cockingly.
"Three...two...one...one and a half..." Rev got in ready position. "Now!" He ran rapidly towards the beast with his superspeed, instantly surrounding it in a red blurred phenomenon.
"Okay weird crocodile, here comes your doze of Danger Duck!" Duck threw the orbs at the phenomenon and the red blur began to turn dark orange, he continued cooking and throwing while his teammates observed.
"I hope they confirm your theory, Doc." Ace told Tech.
"They will." Tech was looking at the event with a straight face. "I´m ninety three percent sure."
The beast tried to exit the phenomenon, letting out strong, loud roars of desperation while colliding with the orange blurred walls, which hurt it and made it groan by the pain, forcing it to stay in the middle, crouching and looking around with eyes of anger. Rev was getting tired, his legs were starting to ache but he kept running nonetheless, breathing in an out with effort, occasionally looking at the beast, noticing it was getting weaker. Tech hovered towards the situation, getting right over the blurred, cylindrical phenomenon, managing to get a look of the beast. "It´s working!" Tech exclaimed while looking at Ace over his shoulder.
"Just a bit more guys!" Ace expressed.
"I can do this all day!" Duck kept throwing the orbs at the halo, showing no signs of exhaustion.
The beast began to groan by the suffocation, walking erratically until it fell over its side. "Keep going, Rev!" Tech noticed the blur was getting clearer, thing that indicated that Rev was slowing down.
"Come o..." Rev was sighing while looking at the decaying monster. He gasped and grunted, then began to frown. "Come on!" Rev increased his speed while still feeling the heat of the orbs Duck was throwing at the phenomenon.
"You can do this, guys!" Lexi cheered.
Tech was focused on the monster, which was laying over the ground without moving any muscle already. "I think we got him!" Tech informed, waiting a bit to confirm the beast´s status. "Enough, guys!" He commanded, thing that made Rev to stop running and sit down over the sidewalk.
"Yay!" Rev raised his fist then dropped himself down to take a rest.
Duck dusted off his hands then blew at them. "I was barely starting."
Ace walked towards the apparently dead monster, followed by his girlfriend and Slam. "You sure he is done, Doc?" He said when approaching the scene.
Tech hesitated a bit before walking towards the beast to get a closer look. He took careful steps until getting just in front of the alligator mouth, he slowly moved his hand towards the nostrils, getting the top of it just before them, waiting for a sudden, dim breath, which gladly for him, never came. He turned and walked away from the beast. "Yeah, we killed him."
"You mean 'we' killed him." Duck pointed at himself and at Rev, who was approaching the team.
Ace chuckled by the success of the mission, approaching Duck and putting a hand on his shoulder, doing the same with Rev who just met with them. "You two were great, guys. You certainly deserve a break."
"Oh don´t worry I´ve already taken it." Rev said.
"Well, speak for yourself." Duck argued.
Ace let out another brief laugh. "Uhm, Doc, what you th..?" His comm suddenly began to sound, he raised an eyebrow and took the transmission. "Ace Bunny here." The rest got closer to Ace to hear the call.
"Morning, mister Bunny, uhm, I´m calling from Acmetropolis´ General Hospital, one of our patients wants to see you, says it´s urgent." A male voice said from the other side. "One of the victims from the last incident."
Ace looked around for a moment, seeing all the dead people laying over the street. "Yeah..." He looked at his comm again. "Alright…we´ll be there in a moment. Thank you very much." He ended the call, looking at his comrades with a glare of intrigue.
