Ethan got up and starred at the ground. He promised that today he'll talk to Silver and try to get him to get with Kris. She said she's tried many times to talk to him about the dance, but always gets shrugged off. Ethan sighed.
"What makes her think that I'd have better luck with him?" he muttered to himself. Ethan quickly got dressed and walked out the room. There, he meet up with Red.
"Morning!" Ethan said.
"Morning," Red said.
"Sleep well?"
Red nodded.
"That's good. You wouldn't by chance know where Silver is? I have to talk to him about something"
Red shook his head. "Maybe eating lunch?"
"Maybe..." With how much Silver dislikes being around people, he doubted it. "I guess I'll go and check it out. Would you like to come with?"
"Sure..."
On the way to the cafeteria, Ethan explained what he promised Kris. But before they got to the cafeteria, they saw Silver walk into the library.
"... I promised Leaf I'd meet her by the cafeteria soon. Good luck," Red said.
What Red said was the truth, but the timing made Ethan wonder. But he always had a hard time reading Red.
Once inside the library, Ethan looked around for Silver. He wondered if he just imagined him coming in her, till he found him in the back of the library. Silver was working on his homework, or rather just starring at it.
Ethan slowly walked up to his table and said, "Hey Silver. Already ate?"
Silver just scribbled on the side of the page and didn't look up at Ethan, but responded with, "Not hungry. Thought I'd get this done now while most are eating..."
"Oh..." Ethan said. "Doesn't look like he'll accomplish that..." Ethan thought. "So... you asked anyone to the dance?"
"No. I'd rather not waste my time."
"Well, this is going well," Ethan thought. "I see..." Ethan said.
"You suckered into going?"
"W-well, no. But... free food and somewhere to go, sounds nice."
"Riiight."
It was obvious to Ethan that the dance still didn't appeal to Silver.
"Well... Kris is cute right?"
Silver glared at him. "Why are you talking about this stuff?"
Ethan looked uncomfortably to the floor. "Kris... wanted to know-"
"If I'd go to the dance with her?" Silver interrupted.
"Y-yeah..." Ethan wondered how he'd guess, but he than from their conversation, it really wasn't hard to figure out. "She says that she tried but... why do you keep brushing her off?"
Silver irritably closed his book and shoved his stuff away.
"If you don't want to go, just tell her!" Ethan shouted.
"Well sorry! I thought she'd get the point by now! But I guess I have to spell it out to her how much I hate her!"
"Hate?"
Silver put his backpack on. "Yeah! I don't know how you stand her! She's obnoxious, acts like a know it all, treats me like a child..."
"She just cares... and she has good traits too."
"Well good for her! She still isn't the one I li..." Silver stopped what he was saying and just left.
"Silver? Wait!" Ethan shouted. He ran after him. But then he saw Kris outside, crying.
Blue was by Kris while she was by the library crying.
"Hey, what happened?" Blue asked.
She looked up at him, and was about to speak before Silver ran out, and she buried her hear in her arms.
Then Ethan came running out and saw her. "Kris? What's wrong?"
She slowly looked up at him. "I heard... he h-hates me." She then looked at the ground with a frown. Kris saw Ethan enter, and once he saw him and Silver meet, she wanted to know what Ethan would say.
Ethan know right away what she meant. "Kris..."
Blue sighed. "Well, I guess I should go..." Then Blue left.
"Kris..."
"I know... M-more fish in the sea. No big l-loss."
Ethan just stood there silent, not sure what to say now.
She looked up at him with a forced smile. "Well, how about we go to the dance together? I mean, it's better than... sitting alone, remembering how much of an fool I was and how I was unable to..." She put her head back in her arms.
"Hey now, I'm sure you weren't... you're a nice unique girl."
She looked up at him. "You'd go out with me?"
"No! No that's not..." Ethan saw her only as a friend, and can't really image her as anything more. Ever since they were little, they lived by each other and did everything, so he mostly saw her as a sister.
Kris looked to the ground.
"I'm sure someone will like you. Ether way, you're a kind, smart, and mature."
Kris stood up with a smile. "Right. Thanks for all that you did for me. "
"Well, it's the least I could do with all the help you gave me when I started my pokemon journey."
"Well, that's what friends are for, I think."
"Right!"
"Well, we've got the day off. Why not enjoy it?"
"Yeah! How does taking our pokemon to the beach sound to you?"
"Sounds great to me!"
During lunch, Silver sat down by himself while eating the food he got. Then Ethan and Kris came into his vision. The first time he meet them, he hated both of them. As he traveled, he really came to like Ethan from the way he took down team Rocket. While Kris also had a hand in taking them down, he never really liked how she always start a fight over how he stole from Elm. Ethan only just mentioned it once when he found out it was him that took it, but he just told him that Elm might let you keep it if you asked. But what was worse from Kris is that she actually started to act different around him, and started to lose on purpose in pokemon battles. Ethan always took him seriously, and even though Silver always lost to him, at least he felt Ethan made him feel like a serious opponent.
Suddenly Silver looked up and Ethan was there.
"What?" Silver asked. Then Silver looked away from him.
"Sorry... if I upset you this morning," Ethan said.
Silver huffed and crossed his arms. "Wasn't upset."
"Oh... Well you kinda seemed like it."
Silver glared at him with an irritated look. "Well, I wasn't."
"Alright, alright... Anyways." Ethan looked down at the table. "You don't have to worry about Kris anymore. She said she won't bother you anymore."
"Good."
Ethan took a deep breath. It really irritated him how rude he talks and acts about Kris. But he figured he should just drop the subject for now."She also said she had to go and do something right now, so is it alright if I sit with you?"
"Sure..."
It always bothered him that Ethan was usually around Kris. He always thought that they would become a couple or something. But that seems to not be the case for now.
"So... Kris doesn't want to take you?" Silver asked.
Ethan gave him a confused look. Silver wasn't one to start friendly conversations, unless it's to start a pokemon battle.
"You know, to the dance," Silver added.
"Well... we were thinking of going as friends, maybe," Ethan said. Then he starred at him for a bit. "A reason why ya asked?"
Silver huffed and turned away with a blush on his face. "No! I was just wondering! I already said I didn't like Kris!"
"I was already aware of that..." Ethan muttered.
They sat in silence for a bit before Silver spoke up, "so you don't like Kris that way?"
Ethan starred at him for a bit then asked, "whats with the weird questions?"
Silver smirked a bit, "thought it be fair from what you did this morning."
Ethan laughed. "Oh I see. Wow, you really got me!"
Silver looked away a bit and muttered, "idiot..."
Then he thought about what Ethan said to him after their double battle with Lance and Clair.
"Wait Silver! I never told you this before, but I really like your determination and confidence to keep going no matter how many times you lost! It really encouraged me to..."
After that, Silver told him to shut up, then he left.
"Why did you tell me what you did back when we defeated Lance and Clair?" Silver asked.
Ethan thought back to what he said then. "You mean about the determination thing?"
Silver nodded.
"Well, I came to tell you that in the first place, since you said you were frustrated with your pokemon being weak before you left to train there so..."
Silver was glaring at him. "You were just saying things to make me feel better?"
Ethan shrugged a bit. "Maybe a little, but it was the truth I felt like I should tell you."
"Well, you're awful at making people feel better then."
Ethan chuckled a bit. "well I never really finished what I was going to say..."
"Right... and what was it you were going to say?"
Ethan smiled a bit at him. "That you really encouraged me while I collected my badges and challenged the elite four."
Silver rolled his eyes and turned away. "What a load of..."
"Come on, I'm serious! I had my fair share of loses too! And I got back and turned it around! So I came to tell you that I was sure you where able to, too!"
Silver huffed and asked, "who have you lost against?"
Ethan took awhile to recall. "Some gym leaders, and every time I battled Kris I've never won yet..."
"Right..."
Ethan knew that he didn't quiet believe him, but he didn't really want to argue about it with him. "Ether way, I do like that you're determined to go through in what you believe in." Ethan got up to start leaving.
Silver looked up at him with a frown. "I like that you're so optimistic."
Ethan stood there with a blank expression on his face.
"And I mean that as much as I believe you."
Ethan put his stuff down as he laughed. "Well, at least we are honest."
Silver got up face red due to getting flustered. "W-we? I..." He walked over to Ethan and grabbed his shoulders. Once they starred into each others eyes, Silver forgot what he was going to say, and just looked at him with a frown.
Ethan blushed a bit. But then he smirked at him and touched him on the noise which made him let go and back up with a disapproving groan.
"Nice talking to ya Sil. Got things I gotta do now, but maybe we can chat again sometime!"
Silver crossed his arms. "What, do you have some sort of crush on me now or something?"
Ethan looked down to hid his red face and turned away. "Crush. Hah... Funny." Then he walked away. "It's not that..." Ethan muttered to himself.
