Chapter 5
1194 B.C Beaches of Troy
The excitement and nervousness among the Greek soldiers was palpable. The rows upon rows of soldiers armed to the teeth in armour was a terrifying yet amazing sight to behold. Slightly away from the mighty armies of Greece, one lone man stood apart from them next to the ocean, watching the hundreds of thousands of men set up camp on the beaches of Troy. He wore a set of the most detailed celestial bronze armour along with a bronze shield that was equally detailed, both items obviously could not have been made by a mere mortal. The armour and shield were decorated with various images of civilisation, from constellations to dancing children. The wearer of this armour was none other than Achilles, the son of Thetis and also the greatest warrior to ever walk the earth. The mighty leader of the Myrmidons was seen standing on the beach where the waves just barely touched his sandals conversing with a man who was standing in the ocean with the water up to his waist. This man was clearly no ordinary man. His messy raven black hair and sea green eyes that glowed with power and his set of intimidating dark armour made it quite obvious that the man was the Olympian god Perseus.
Achilles bowed down to the intimidating god standing before him, who was radiating power that was so intense it was suffocating the son of Thetis.
"My lord, for what reason have you called me here?" Achilles asked, "I thought you were remaining neutral in this war?"
Percy waved his hand dismissively before replying. "None of that lord stuff. I'm not an arrogant god like Zeus and all the bowing just feels weird. I'm still neutral in the war. Rest assured, I have simply come to help you, young Achilles. Just last night, your mother Thetis came to my palace on Olympus to ask for my help. Apollo's oracle in Delphi has foretold that in this life you would be a hero but have a short life, and she has asked me to help prevent it." With a snap of his fingers a pair of black metal combat boots appeared on Achilles's feet replacing the typical Greek leather sandals.
"These are what soldiers wear about 3000 or so, years in the future. Nothing on the battlefield will be able to pierce it. Your mortal point is no longer vulnerable." Percy said, seeing Achilles's obvious confusion.
To say Achilles was shocked would be an understatement. One of the most powerful and well liked in gods in Greek culture just came up to him and gifted him. With footwear from 3000 years in the future as well. "My lord, not that I'm ungrateful or anything, but why did you decide to help me? Surely it would have been easier to let fate run its course?
Percy gave Achilles a small smile. "Your mother is a part of the sea, Achilles, and so are you. The sea never forgets its own." With that, Percy dissolved into a burst of mist, leaving behind nothing but a slight smell of salt.
Olympian council Hours before the war starts
Zeus grabbed his master bolt and pointed it into the sky, signalling for another meeting of the gods. Seconds later, 13 flashes appeared in the throne room and the Olympians were present. "Listen very carefully to what I'm about to say, all of you gods and goddesses. I sincerely hope that none of you will be naïve enough to try to fight against my strict decree. I wish to bring this pointless and violent war to a quick end. Not only that, but I, Zeus, son of Kronos and Rhea hereby declare by the right given to me as the king of Olympus any god I catch, leaving Olympus, to go and help the Trojans or Greeks shall be brought back to Olympus, whipped by my lightning, eternally disgraced. Or I will snatch him and hurl him down to the depths of Tartarus half the world away, into the hell where iron gates and monster are all that exist, as far below the House of Hades as the sky rides over earth. Then he will know how far my power tops all other gods. Do not test me, immortals, for all of you shall learn to never cross the king of Olympus. That is how far I tower over the gods." Lightning crackled and boomed, and Zeus radiated power as he spoke. After the lightning receded, Zeus was standing in front of the council in full battle armour indicating his seriousness
A stunned silence seized all the council, struck dumb by Zeus's ringing pronouncements, shock overwhelmed them for the briefest moments. None of the elder gods had seen Zeus this assertive before, not even during the Titan War, and neither had any of Zeus's children. Percy was frankly quite shocked. He didn't disagree with Zeus per se, but he felt like Zeus was simply trying to assert his dominance over the council and using the Ancient laws as an excuse instead of actually making sure that no gods broke the Ancient laws. Before he could make a comment, Athena, who had already snapped herself out of the shock and cleared her mind, rose from her throne and spoke. "Father, we already know your power, far too well, after all Greece is the strongest empire in the world, and you are the ruler of Greece itself who would be foolish enough to stand against you? However much, we pity these poor soldiers living out their grim fates, dying in blood. We will keep clear of the war as you command. We'll simply offer our people tactics that may save them."
Zeus smiled and answered, "Of course, Athena. You may give your people advice and gifts. Nothing I said was meant in earnest, trust me, I mean every one of you on the council all the good will in the world. That is why I must prevent any of you from the breaking the Ancient Laws. I'm doing it for your own good. Council dismissed." With that, the king of the gods disappeared with a flash of lightning.
