It was after school and Ash and all his friends were together in the dining area planning on how to find Max and Bonnie. Clemont was in front of a table and was talking to the group.
"…I've had an invention that will help us in this situation…" Clemont pulled out his walkie talkies. "Last night, I made some more to help us find them. We are going to need to slit in a small group of two to effectively search for them!"
"Why two? Why not just one?" Misty asked.
"It's safer that way! If someone is in danger, the other can help out or get help. Plus it will be easier for one to watch the time!"
"…Okay."
Clemont continued on. "After we all agreed on who we are going with, you shall grab a map with a certain area that you will look around. I'm sure staff has thoroughly checked the dorm areas and city areas around here, and no bus driver has reported seeing them on the bus. So they did not get on the bus when they disappeared." Clemont looked out the window. "The worst case is that they left by flying on a pokemon… But on all news and radio stations, they are alerting people to watch out for them and report in if they see them. So looking around the forests around here is our best bet! But, we are students with responsibility and have a duty we have to do for ourselves as well! We mustn't risk getting in to trouble just to find them! That means plans must be made to make it back to our rooms before our curfew, and must perform our school duties from going to school to doing our homework! Officer Jennys and their pokemon are working around the clock looking for them, so we can hope for the best with them during school hours and while we sleep. But once we complete our homework we can assist them till curfew! And that is that! Any questions?"
"So if we find one or both them, we just say so in the walkie talkie?" Ritchie asked.
"Yes! And afterwards get them back to the dorm ASAP!"
It was quiet after that, so it seemed no one else had any questions.
"All right everyone! Let's start paring up!"
There where ten groups in all. Everyone had all there pokemon sent out to help with the search. Clemont hoped to have more to search more ground, but he guesses that will have to do. Luckily, Misty had a friend who brought a couple other friends. Sadly for Clemont, he was stuck with a guy he never really met before. Though, he thought that this was an opportunity to get to know other people.
"So, you are one of Ash's friends that he met on his journey?" Clemont asked.
"Well, he's pretty cool, but I'm one of Dawn's close friends!" he said.
Clemont shuttered at the name, as the thought of their fight came to his head. "…Oh Dawn. She's pretty cool."
He smirked. "Yeah! And who knew she was into girls! That's so hot!"
Clemont looked at the guy with an unamused look, as the guy started drooling at his own thoughts.
"I have a big crush on her that I had when we were kids, but I don't even feel upset that she's kissing up on some other chick!" Then he turned to Clemont with a thoughtful look. "…But, I was pretty jealous that some other guy was able to have fun with her before she started dating Zoey. What a lucky dude…"
Clemont narrowed his eyes and sighed. "This Kenny guy is one of Dawn's friends? What a creep…" he thought.
Max was able to grab onto a rock and barley was able to jump close enough to the edge of land and climb on it. Then he made himself a fire to dry off, and was comfortable enough to sleep. But then he suddenly woke up thinking of Bonnie. He knew she must be worried about him, and may be getting herself into more trouble just to find him. So Max got up, grabbed a big stick and put some mud an inch away from the top so it won't burn all up, and set the top on fire. It was to keep the Beedrill away and hopefully any other wild pokemon. Then he started to walk up stream. He looked around closely to see if he could find any of the stick markings that they made to return back to their area, but he didn't see any. Now, Max didn't know what to do.
Ash and Gary where searching around the area they got. Gary had the map and had a plan as to where to go to search for them.
"…Sounds like you've been pretty busy after the Christmas party," Ash said.
"With helping with gramp's research and helping prepare for school after the break, yeah I was pretty busy," Gary responded.
"I see… I really missed seeing you."
"Yea… Did you ever say anything to your mom before you left?"
"Yeah! She seemed pretty upset at first, but told me she said she loves me no matter what…"
"You sure have a great mom…"
"Yeah… Did you ever tell professor Oak about us?"
"Yeah… but he didn't take me seriously."
"…I see."
"Though I know of way to make him believe me!"
"How?"
"Like this." Gary grabbed Ash by the shoulder and kissed him on the lips. Then he got out his phone, took a picture, let Ash go, and sent the picture to his grandpa.
Ash crossed his arms with a blush and an irritated look on his face. "A warning would have been nice!"
Gary ruffled his hair. "Relax, Ashy boy! Let's just focus on finding your friends now."
Ash huffed. "Right."
Bonnie woke up and looked around for Beedrill and Max, but they were nowhere to be found. It seemed Dodrio ran off as well. Dedenne popped out of her bag.
"Are you thirsty too, Dedenne?" Bonnie asked.
Dedenne gave a weak response to her, which Bonnie knew that he was indeed thirsty.
"Hungry too, huh?"
Dedenne nodded.
"Do you think you can find some water? And maybe we can find some fruit along the way!"
Dedenne happily responded, and hopped out the bag to give it a shot. It ran out the cave with Bonnie right behind it and sniffed the air. It then spotted a rattata and asked for directions for water. It ran off and Dedenne followed behind him. Bonnie grabbed her stick followed after them while she made a trail. She wondered about Max. She knows he's really smart, but he's all alone out there with nothing, not even a pokemon or a map to aid him. And he never made it back after going to gather fruit. So he was out here somewhere all night, and he probably never even ate. Bonnie started worrying that he could be hurt or worse, and it'd be all her fault. It was her idea to leave and not let him prepare, and when she caught Dodrio, she could have given it to him for protection, but she never even think to do that. And Beedrill could be in danger as well. They arrived at the river and trees that contained apples in them. Dedenne got the apples, and Bonnie cupped some water in her hands for Dedenne to drink. After Dedenne was done, she got some water for her to drink.
It was pretty warm out in the forest, so the two decided to stay by the river and relax there. Bonnie wasn't sure what to do now. She had no clue on how to find Max or Beedrill. Then Bonnie slowly looked up across the river, and thought she was seeing things.
"Max?" she shouted.
Max looked over at her in shock. "Bonnie!"
"Max!" Tears fell from her face. "I'm… so glad you're okay!"
He gave an irritated look. "But how do I get to the other side of the river?"
Bonnie frowned. "I donno. But here! I got this for you!" She chucked an apple towards him and the apple landed on the ground on the other side.
Max picked it up. "Thanks…" Max hasn't eaten for a long time. But food was the least of his worries now.
Dedenne spotted a magikarp and asked him how they could safely cross the river. The magikarp swam off and Dedenne shouted for Max and Bonnie to follow him and they all ran off the direction the magikarp went.
They soon arrived at a place where the water wasn't strong and was pretty shallow, so Max crossed to the other side. It was dark out, so they had to sleep in the middle of the forest. Max made a fire and they sat around it.
"… So, what happened? Why have you been gone all day?"
Max glared at her. "I got chased by Beedrill and had to dive in the river to get rid of them! Real fun, right?"
Bonnie looked away with a sad look. "I'm… sorry."
"You should be! This is all your fault!"
"…It is." Bonnie then got up and left for bed, with Dedenne following closely behind.
The next morning, Max finally had a good night's rest and was eating the apple. He thought about snapping at Bonnie yesterday. They haven't spoken to each other since then. It may be mostly her fault that he didn't bring any of his pokemon nor a map of some kind, but he was the one who thought to split up to get berries that day and got himself caught up in the mess with the Beedrill. There wasn't a need to be mad at her for something beyond her control. Max found Bonnie to be a pretty cool person, but now who knows if she would ever talk to him again. He figures he should try to apologize to her. Max got up and went to look around for Bonnie. He found her watching the river with a thoughtful look on her face.
Max sat by her and said, "hey."
Bonnie looked over at him and quietly said, "hi…"
"…Listen, I just want to apologize for yelling at you last night."
She shook her head. "You don't have to. After all… you are right."
Max laughed. "Come on! How was it your fault that I was attacked by Beedrill and got lost?"
Bonnie looked down to the ground and narrowed her eyes. "It's not. But I had two pokemon while you had none! I could've let you borrow one!"
"Well, I never even asked! So you're not the only one who messed up there!"
Bonnie looked away without saying a word, which made Max wonder if he made her feel worse.
"How is Dodrio anyways?" Max asked.
"It ran away… Such a great trainer I am, letting a pokemon run off, huh?"
"Hey, don't stress about it! I can tell you worse blunders that my sister had! And some she made even after she became the princess of Hoenn."
Bonnie just looked down at the ground with a sad look.
Max placed a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry! I'm sure we will find it!"
Bonnie looked up into his eyes with a small smile.
They looked into each other's eyes for a moment, before blushing and looking away from each other.
"…Thanks Max," Bonnie said.
