The dance is starting soon, and everyone is excited for it to start. Except Sapphire, who is nervous for the night to come. For the secret date swap, there were a few ground rules they both agreed upon. Obvious ones include no kissing, embracing, other displays of affection. There are also no holding hands with entwined fingers, touching the butt, or any kind of flirting of any kind. "…How are they supposed to think we are their actual dates then?" Sapphire wondered.
"Everything okay, May?" Drew asked.
Sapphire gave a nervous smile. "Y-yeah… just excited… is all."
Drew gave her a confused look. Knowing May, she should be ecstatic about the dance.
The doors to the dance area opened and everybody rushed in.
Brendan stared at May lovingly, while May looked around for some people she knows.
"You are so beautiful, my sweet little skitty," Brendan said.
May attempted to smile at him. "Right… They call each other by these weird pet names. And Max thought it was embarrassing that I call Drew darling and he calls me babe," May thought.
"What's wrong?"
"N-nothing! Just…" May then saw a sign with 'FOOD' written on it and her eyes got wide with her mouth open and a bit of drool coming out of her mouth. "Food! Yes! I'm starving!"
Brendan frowned with a raised eyebrow. "Huh?" Brendan knows Sapphire never acted this way.
May ran towards the area with the food.
"H-hey! Sapphire? Uh… Wait up!" Brendan ran after her. He figured she just must be very hungry at the moment.
Sapphire looked straight past Drew with an attempted smile as they danced to a slow song.
Once it stopped playing, Drew put his hands on Sapphire's shoulder, and lifted her face to face him.
"May… What's wrong? You're usually way more upbeat than this."
"D-Drew, I…"
"May, I love you so much." He gently caressed Sapphire's face.
Sapphire froze, unsure what to do or say.
"So please… if there's anything bothering you, you can let me know." Drew slowly went in to kiss Sapphire.
"Nooooo!" Sapphire shoved Drew off of her into Ash disguised as a girl, and Ash went flying into his food he brought from the food stand. Ash's wig flew off of Ash's head and landed in Burgundy's face.
Burgundy screamed. "What is this? A galvantula? Someone get it off!" Burgundy ran around blindly while everyone rushed out of her way until she ran into an overflowing trashcan. She wiggled around and made angry noises.
Max pointed and laughed at her. "Look everyone! You can see her eevee underwear!"
People laughed and commented on it, even the guy who came with her.
Georgia sighed. "I can't even find any motivation in me to help her…" she mumbled.
Sapphire ran off.
May stuffed her face with the food she got.
"…My, you sure are a hungry skitty tonight," Brendan said.
May tried not to shutter. "Y-yes. And now I'm so thirsty! Please go and get some punch… machamp." May groaned a bit with that.
Brendan stared at her for a bit, before he embraced her from behind and kissed her cheek. "Of course. Anything for you, my love." He then left.
May screamed. "Man, this was a stupid idea!" Suddenly, she saw someone she thought she knew. "Dawn…" As she remembered, Dawn and Zoey said that they don't plan on going. Even if one of them dresses up and impersonates as a guy, they know they really wouldn't have fun there with the rumors still rampant and they would have to deal with drama instead of being able to have fun. So they said they had other plans. But here she was, with some guy with long black hair. But before May could confront her, she heard a scream from Sapphire, and went running in that direction.
When May got to the place, all she saw was a person with a plate of food covering his face and Gary laughing on the floor at him.
"Great. Now I lost out on some good food, and I'm starving." the guy in the dress said.
May recognized the voice and tried not to laugh. "A-Ash?"
"No!" Ash shouted. Then he tried to make his voice more girly. "It's Ashley!"
Then May busted out laughing. "Well Ashley, you sure are beautiful tonight!"
"Very funny. This is all your fault, May!"
May frowned. "Actually ash…ley."
Drew then came up from behind her. "So there you are May!"
May jumped. "Oh! Drew…"
"So tell me May, whose the guy you've been messing around with tonight?"
"What? What gave you that idea?" May shouted angrily.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because you came here with a different guy while dissing me with that jumpy girl!"
May crossed her arms. "That was just for a little fun! It's your fault that you didn't get that it wasn't me!"
Drew rolled her eyes. "Sure, May."
May glared at him with clenched fist and a burned up face. "And what's your proof that I seriously wanted you to date another girl? Did she make any moves on you?"
Drew thought about it for a bit.
"So see! It was just a joke, stupid!"
"Well I didn't want this night to be a joke! I looked forward to spending this night! With you!" Drew then turned away and left.
May watched as he left with a frown and narrowed eyes. "Such a stupid joke," she mumbled.
Sapphire ran around trying to find Brendan. She felt so upset for what happened between her and Drew. Not because of May, but because she loved nobody but Brendan. Sapphire then caught the eye of Brendan, but he quickly looked away from her. Sapphire looked down on the ground, unsure what to do. Then Sapphire realized that he at least deserves an explanation, so she slowly walked up to him. When she arrived, she took a deep breath, but couldn't find any words to say. And it was silent for a few moments.
"So… This is it of our relationship?" Brendan asked.
"No! At least… that's not what I want." Sapphire replied.
"Then why? What's this all about?"
"I… wanted to see if you'll ever figure it out!"
Brendan gave her a confused look.
She looked down with a sad look. "We've been dating for more than a year… Yet, you can easily confuse me for some other girl I'm not even related to?"
Brendan frowned as he nervously scratched the back of his head. "W-well…"
"But…" She looked at him a small smile. "I love you regardless, Brendan. I know that… more than ever now!"
Brendan smiled. "Well then please… never do anything like this ever again."
"Of course. I won't."
Brendan and May both embraced.
May found Drew outside the dance room leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and starring at the ground. May looked away with a frown and put her hand on her arm. "I…I'm sorry Drew. I never meant to hurt you like this."
Drew didn't respond.
May then clenched her fist and glared at him. "But did you ever think of how I feel!"
Drew looked at her with a confused look.
May looked away with tears in her eyes. "I mean… how would you feel if I started flirting with some other guy thinking it was you?"
Drew laughed. "Come on, May. There is no need to get jealous."
"That's not it!" May angrily shouted.
Drew smirked. "Really?"
May glared at him with barred teeth and clenched fist. "You can be so infuriating!"
Drew laughed. "You know I'm just telling the truth. After all, you are an open book to me."
May crossed her arms and turned away. "Right. That's how you knew I wasn't cheating on you?"
Drew started sweating.
May's eyes got all teary. "Do… you even understand me at all."
"Of course, May! I mean, we've known each other for more than five years."
May looked down with a frown, but was surprised when a rose appeared in front of her face.
Drew had had one hand holding the rose for May, while the other was wrapped around her. "Listen May, I may not be able to tell you apart from that other girl but… she could never take my love I have for you."
May slowly smiled, as she took the rose that he gave her and placed a hand on his arm. "If you still want to… we can go back to the dance, together."
"Sure. As long as I'm with you, I'm fine with doing anything."
As May and Drew danced together, May saw who she thought was Dawn again.
"Hey! It's Dawn! Hey Dawn!" Max shouted.
But she didn't even turn around.
"Oh, that must be Platinum," Bonnie said.
May's mouth went wide open. "Platinum? Did Dawn have an identical twin sister she never told us about?" May wondered.
"You can tell because mostly hangs out with that guy she's with now."
"Oh. Man, she looks exactly like Dawn. That must not help her current situation with her doppelganger around," Max said.
Bonnie started sweating, remembering that it was her fault that Dawn is in the predicament that she's in because she took advantage of how much Platinum looks like Dawn.
Drew smirked as she saw May's face when she heard those two talk. "So, it seems I'm not the only one who struggles telling someone close to me apart from some other people."
May nervously laughed. "Y-yeah…"
"And I wasn't referring to those two over there, either."
May started sweating with a nervous smile. "Well then I have no clue who you are talking about…" She looked away with a frown. "I guess this is what I get for being too hard on Drew…" she thought.
Brock come over and got Ash a towel to whip off the food off himself. However, he and Gary were forced to leave the dance, so Ash and Gary were on outside forced to wait for the bus to take everyone back.
"Wonder what's happening to May?" Ash shouted.
Gary shrugged. "Nothing you can do know, so I wouldn't worry about it too much."
Ash groaned. "But she's part of the reason I wasn't even able to eat... And I'm so hungry." His stomach rumbled as he put his hands on it.
"Well it's a good thing I grabbed this plate for you, while Brock was helping you out back there." Gary held up a plate of food.
Ash frowned. "But that's nowhere near the amount of food I grabbed!"
"…You're welcome."
Ash sighed as he took the plate.
"And in any case, it's a good thing May did whatever she did, or you'd end up with a stomach ache."
"Come on, I'm not how I was when I was ten years old, you know!"
"Ash… you grabbed the amount of food to feed five grown adults."
"Well, I'm hungry!"
Gary sighed.
Ash also sighed. "And now everyone at school knows I dressed as a girl."
Gary face palmed. "And that I took you as my girlfriend."
"Looks like we are going to have an annoying week of school next time it starts."
"Yeah…"
Bianca lied still on her bed as she thought about the dance and sighed. "What did I do to deserve this?" she wondered. Then she got a call on her cross-transceiver and she answered it and Cheren's face appeared on screen. "Cheren?"
"I'm… really sorry that we failed you, Bianca," he said.
"There's no need to be. It wasn't your fault," Bianca replied.
"Bianca… I have a surprise for you. Please follow Emboar. I have him waiting by the girl's dorm."
Bianca gave him a confused look. "A-alright."
Bianca walked over to where Emboar led her, and ended up in a clearing where the stars could be seen clearly with a bunch of volbeat and illumise lights flashing about. Then slow romantic music played as she saw Cheren come up and held out a bouquet of roses for her.
"…I know this isn't anywhere as great as being able to go to the dance, but…"
Bianca smiled. "No. It's wonderful, Cheren! You… didn't have to."
"No. It's the least I could do… for letting you down."
"Cheren… I never felt let down by you. I know you've done all you could to figure it out, and it was never your responsibility to."
"Of course it was! After all, I did tell you I would find out who it was so we can go to the dance!"
Bianca narrowed her eyes. "Cheren…"
"But even though I failed… that doesn't mean we can't have a dance. And I won't give up on figuring out who's really at fault." He held out the roses.
Bianca smiled and took the roses. "R-right. Thank you, Cheren."
They then took each other by the hand and danced to the slow song.
