Episode 112: Night of rest

Night had arrived, Edison was in his room, he took a pill from a blister pack and put it in his mouth with hesitation, then drunk from the glass of water he was holding. He sighed and wiped his snout with his arm, then placed the glass over a table. Edison was wearing his sleeping clothes, a red pair of pajama pants and an old, white T-shirt. He rubbed his eyes and then went to his bed, laying down while letting out a sigh, looking into the ceiling. After a few minutes, he started to feel how the tension in his body decreased and the loud thoughts in his mind got quiet. Everything turned into silence after a while and then he fell asleep.

On the meantime, Akinyi was in her room, laying over her bed, being accompanied by Randy, who was leaning his back against the wall. He was still wearing his bodysuit. Akinyi wore a gray short and a red T-Shirt as sleeping clothes. "Thanks for your help, Randy. I think I should be fine in a couple of days."

"No problem, if you need anything just tell me." Randy replied with a smile.

Akinyi smiled back at him. "Thanks, amigo." She gasped by a sudden pain she felt.

"I'll let you rest." Randy started to walk away.

"Hey." Akinyi said. "Come here."

"Uhm, okay." Randy approached her.

Akinyi embraced him. "Thank you." She slowly broke the hug and looked into his eyes, then she kissed his cheek tenderly. "Have a good night."

Randy blushed while glaring away, chuckling nervously. "Good night, Aki."

Vale was writing the mission report on his tablet, frustratingly. "Dang." He sighed and let out a yawn, then just looked at the tablet with a tired and thoughtful glare. "Screw it." He turned off the tablet and stood up from his chair, stretching and taking a deep breath. He exhaled and entered the bathroom in order to get a shower.

On the meantime, Ace was in the lounge, sleeping on one of the couches, still wearing his bodysuit. Lexi saw him with a compassionate glare, standing by the door of her room. She wore pink pajamas. Lexi began to walk towards him. She approached her boyfriend and crouched before him then gently caressed his face. "Baby." She whispered.

Ace started to open his eyes slowly. "L…Lexi" He took her hand. "Wh…what time is...?" He yawned.

"Not too late, like twelve or something." Lexi replied.

Ace sighed. "Okay." He started to straighten his back, resting it over the couch's support, sitting while glaring into his girlfriend's eyes. "I was just thinking about all of this madness. I don't know what to do."

Lexi sat down next to him then caressed his back tenderly. "It's been troubling me a lot as well." She glared away for a moment. "You just turn one second, and in a blink…everything is upside down."

"Yeah." Ace replied, rubbing and squeezing Lexi's hand delicately. "What are we gonna do?" His voice was subtly broken.

"Oh, hun." Lexi got closer to him and kissed his cheek. "I'm sure we'll manage, how many bad guys have we defeated so far?"

Ace scratched his nape. "I know, but…it's different with these guys." He shook his head. "I know they have good intentions. It's their methods what gets me so...upset."

"Mhm." Lexi stroked his ear gently. "I think we all share that thought, Ace. I want them to stop as much as you do, but…I guess that sometimes it's better to just…" She sighed. "Sorry, I just can't find the right words to say this."

"It's ok." Ace replied.

Lexi thought for a moment. "Maybe these guys can learn their lesson on their own, you know? Eventually, they will have to choose, and when that time comes, we'll just have to hope they make the right decision."

Ace sighed. "And what if that never happens?"

"Then…we'll have to kick their tails." Lexi answered with a slight chuckle.

Ace chuckled. "Yeah, I guess."

Lexi smiled at him and started to kiss him, then he did the same, embracing her strongly, caressing her hair and her back with love. After a couple of minutes, they broke the kiss, looking into each other's eyes with hope, love and confidence. "Everything will be alright, Ace."

Ace laid his head over her shoulder, closing his eyes and sighing while she caressed his head and ears tenderly. "What would I d..?" He yawned. "…do without you…Lexi?"

Lexi chuckled softly, kissing his head with sweetness. "You're my world, Ace…you're my man, and I'll always be there for you." She whispered softly, with a deeply reassuring tone.

Meanwhile, Duck was in the training room, hitting a punch bag, wearing a pair of gray shorts and a blue, sleeveless sport shirt. He gave strong and precise hits and punches, gasping and breathing in and out intensely, sweating by the effort and vigor he was putting into the activity. Rev arrived all of a sudden, wearing black shorts and a white sport shirt. "Oh, shouldn't you be sleeping at this hour, like everyone else?"

Duck chuckled, giving a last punch at the punching bag, looking at his comrade over his shoulder. "Nice joke. Shouldn't you be doing the same?"

Rev nodded and walked by him. "Touché."

"Gonna do some lifting?" Duck asked while stretching his arms.

"Nah, I'm gonna try to break some of my records in the treadmill." Rev replied, heading to an area with a large crystal window, where the treadmills were.

"Oh, cool." Duck replied. "Uhm…"

Rev looked at him. "Yeah?"

"What do you think of all this?" Duck inquired.

Rev raised an eyebrow. "You mean, the Maniacs stuff?"

"Yeah, what else?" Duck replied.

Rev sighed while shaking his head and walking back towards Duck. "They have a lot to learn yet."

"Learn? They're not little kids barfing on the walls." Duck stated.

"And? One never stops learning, Duck." Rev said.

"You sound like a public elementary school teacher, you know that?" Duck crossed his arms, looking at him with a straight face.

"The point is, that I think that it's just a matter of time before people start to see who they really are, and that can force them to change their…habits, so to speak." Rev stated.

"Why don't we just go to their place and give 'em a…short lesson?" Duck opined.

"For what? For the city to hate us and hunt us down? This is a very complicated situation, if we want to keep the city safe and maintain their trust, we must be very careful from now on, at least until things calm down with the…Maniacs." Rev explained.

Duck sighed while rubbing his face. "Man, I never thought we would be getting competition here. It sucks."

"They're not 'competition', Duck. They…" Rev thought for a moment then sighed and placed a hand on Duck's shoulder. "They can be worthy allies." He looked away. "One never knows what could happen in the future, specially in this city."

"Mhm." Duck said with a bit of disdain. "Well, I still wanna punch their punchable faces so hard." He yawned. "I need to get some sleep, man." He patted his shoulder friendlily and then turned, walking away from him and exiting the training room. Rev turned around and began to walk back to the treadmill area.

Tech was laying on his bed, wearing a pair of black boxer shorts and a green T-Shirt, looking at the ceiling, thinking about everything that had happened that day, picturing scenarios, possible plans, inventions, outcomes, all sorts of things that could happen in the future. He let out a sigh then raised his back briefly, opening a drawer from the bureau, taking a pill from a small, spherical container. He put the pill in his mouth then swallowed it. He grabbed the glass of water over the bureau and took a long sip from it. Tech exhaled and started to take deep breaths. He sighed and then laid down again, getting into the sheets and sliding his arm under the fresh side of the pillow. "Just this time…" He yawned and let out a sleepy sigh. "I…n…" Tech fell in a deep sleep.

'Okay! Have a good night, hun!', that's what Peyton's last message said, displaying on the chat application in Slam's computer. He smiled at the screen and typed a heart shaped emoticon. Slam yawned and turned off the computer, then he headed to his bed, stretching and letting out more strong yawns.
