Guest: - Thank you very much for your multiple comments. Please don't feel the need to apologize as I love reading your 'rambles'. I won't go into my views on Moffat or Chibnall currently, as I try to do so on an episode-by-episode basis. I'll say if I like an episode in the A/N at the bottom.
"I'm sorry, alright!" the Librarian laughed. He leaned to the side, wincing, as Yang gave him another punch in the shoulder.
The blonde glared at him but her smirk betrayed her anger. "No using the mask, you hear!"
Ruby nodded in agreement as she took a sip from her (third) hot chocolate.
"At least let me know first and we'll do it together," Yang continued.
Squinting her eyes, Weiss gave her own glare. "No… If I see anyone in the T.A.R.D.I.S wearing a gasmask and asking for their 'Mummy', I'll freeze them in a block of ice." She tapped a finger against the pummel of her sheathed blade. "Am I clear?"
"Yes ma'am!" they both yelped.
Blake held back a giggle as she looked up at the night sky. After the Librarian's prank, chasing them around the T.A.R.D.I.S theater - and the console room - in a mask resembling the Empty Child's, he had picked another world for them to visit. Unlike before, he picked one out specifically.
"Time for you to meet some real heroes," he said. "Let's see…" The screen in front of him pulled up two images. Both of an orb - which Blake now recognized as Earth - yet each one with some slight changes. At the bottom, the left one read 'D E-12'. The other was 'M E-8096'.
Suffice it to say, no one except the Librarian understood what that meant.
A revelation must have come to him because his eyes lit up and he picked the one on the left. Then, after using the T.A.R.D.I.S to enter that reality, he parked the blue box outside of a coffee shop and ordered a round for everyone.
So here they sat. Four students, a Huntsman, and a traveler. An odd team.
LRWBYQ, Blake lamented as she slid her finger around the edge of her cup. I wonder what team name that would be…
Before she could think on it longer, Yang, who had been chugging her entire mug, slammed the empty container onto the table and caused everything to jump. "So!" she grinned. "What brings us here, Libra?"
"Actually, I'm an Ares," he snickered. The Librarian looked through the glass window and into the shop. They all followed his gaze and noticed a TV set was on, showing a news report by a man in a blue suit with a purple tie.
His golden hair and perfectly white teeth seemed to shine as he gestured to the screen behind him. The words 'Just-Us League' were written on it in a decrepit font. Though they couldn't hear him, his body language and arm waving were obvious he wasn't speaking with a calm tone.
"Who's that guy?" Qrow asked, pouring some of the contents from his flask into his hot chocolate.
The Librarian rolled his eyes as the newsman brought up a symbol with a red X over it. "A hate monger. Riling up people's emotions for attention and tricking them into believing his twisted version of history." Then, in a voice only Blake's enhanced ears could hear, he muttered, "fudging Darkseid. What I wouldn't give to punch Godfrey in his glorious, new-god face."
What the heck is a new god?
"Is that why we're here?" Ruby asked. "Does he mind controlling people?"
Laughing, he shook his head. "No. Well, actually, kind of? We aren't here for him. He's just a background character."
Blake raised an eyebrow. "Background character?"
"Mhm. I had ELI calculate a few things before we landed. If she's right, and she usually is, then I think the excitement is about to begin."
Before anyone could ask "Excitement?" a red blur swept through the coffee shop. Wind threw hair, trash, and napkins upward as the colorful streak solidified into the shape of a man tapping his foot.
To Blake, it looked as if Ruby had created a cartoon character. His suit was bright red with yellow bolts of electricity decorating his ears and chest. As he spun around, she could see the lower half of his face was unmasked and a grin that she recognized to mean 'I've got too much energy and I know how to use it violently'.
Brothers knew she'd seen that smile on Yang before.
As the man stopped, with the exception of his foot tapping, none of the other occupants seemed to react much. One waved and another raised her mug. The costumed man disappeared and reappeared next to them in a flash of scarlet, now shaking their hands and patting their backs. Blake couldn't tell what he was saying, but they seemed to be having an in-depth conversation; the exact opposite of the paparazzi-like way she was expecting to see like with actors in Vale.
"What the heck?!" Yang gasped, her hands clenching instinctively.
Ruby was the opposite. She jumped up excitedly and leaned towards the glass. "Who. Is. That?"
Smiling, the Librarian waved his hand at the man. He waved back. "That's Flash," he explained. "The fastest man alive."
"Not the fastest woman!" Ruby exclaimed before leaping out of her chair. Before she could rush inside, Weiss grabbed her by the back of her cloak. "Aww. But Weissy…?"
The Schnee heiress shook her head and pointed for Ruby to sit back down (which she did). "Let's not make the same mistake as last time and ask a few things before splitting up."
"Fine."
Their guide laughed. "He's one of the seven members of a group of heroes called the Justice League. Sort of like the Ace Ops for the entire universe."
Qrow spat out his drink and began to cough. "Universe?" he wheezed.
"Mhm. And that's just the main ones. There are dozens if not hundreds of other heroes they know and can ask for help. Some human, some alien, and some not even alive."
The entire group let out a harmonic "wow."
Suddenly, the wind swept past them again. As Blake brushed back her hair - and which she noticed to her annoyance that Yang's did not - the man called Flash was now sitting at their table.
"Hey guys!" he smiled. "Haven't seen you around here before, what brings you to town?"
"Uhhh," Ruby stuttered. Apparently, not even she could follow his speed as her eyes seemed to rattle. "Traveling?"
Flash nodded. "Nice! Well, I've gotta run. But you picked a great place to get coffee. They make a killer macchiato." He lifted up a cupholder and grabbed one of the five cups he had brought. Popping the lid, they saw the froth was made to resemble that same symbol on his chest. "Stay safe!"
And, within an eyeblink, he was gone.
"…"
Slowly turning her gaze from the now empty chair and towards the Librarian, Ruby grew a manic smile.
Uh oh.
"Are you telling me," she said, "that there are six other guys as fast as him?"
To her dismay, the man shook his head. "No. Well… one. Not really. But for charity, yes."
Yang leaped up from her seat and rushed out to the sidewalk to try and follow the red mirage trail. "Let's go then! I want to meet them!"
"Or fight them," both Blake and Qrow muttered.
"Hold up a second," the Librarian said. "Weiss is right, I should try to explain a few things." The girl nodded and smiled. "First of all, powers. You've met the Flash. Superspeed. So fast that I've seen iterations or multiverse-like duplicates outrun instant teleportation."
"That doesn't seem so bad," Qrow said. "How far are we talking?"
"From one end of the universe to the other."
Again, the man spat out his drink and began to cough.
"This one isn't that crazy though. There's Superman, whose multitude of powers and strength is only dwarfed by his compassion and righteousness. Flight, super strength - yes, stronger than you Yang - heat vision, ice breath, X-ray vision, invulnerability, and more."
Weiss whistled and leaned forward. "He sounds invincible."
"Not exactly. He's weak to magic and spells as well as electricity. But his biggest weakness is the shardic remains of his homeworld."
"Homeworld?" they all asked.
The Librarian's smile flickered slightly as he leaned forward. "Like the Doctor, he is the last of his kind." [1] A small gasp was uttered from Ruby, Weis, and Blake. Yang's fists clenched and crushed her empty cup while Qrow froze. "As a baby, he was sent here. His planet blew up. An alien in every sense of the word. But, thanks to his physiology, the rays of our yellow sun gave him his powers. And, the pieces of his former home can weaken, if not kill, him with their radiation."
"That's… so sad," Ruby whispered. "The only things he has from his home literally hurt him."
Yang grabbed her sister's hand. "But it sounds like he made a new home here."
"That he did. He's fought off alien invaders, evil scientists, robots, assassins - you name it. And he does so to protect the planet he now calls home.
"Then there's Hawkgirl. I'm not an expert on her but she's an alien as well. But her species is part avian."
"Well isn't she all alien?" Qrow asked, a smirk on his lips. Everyone, with the exception of his blonde niece, groaned.
"Avian," the Librarian corrected. "Meaning bird. You of all people should know that word. She wears a hawk-like mask and has two large wings on her back that give her the ability to fly. Enhanced strength as well I think. But," his eyes shifted between Yang and Ruby, "her greatest asset is her mace."
Instantly, the two girls were leaning further than before.
"Made of a special metal that negates magic, her mace is downright indestructible. She swings it with perfect skill and, though it seems sharp, I have actually never seen it work as anything but a blunt-based weapon."
"Cooool."
"And it can be electrified."
"Cooool!"
Weiss cocked her head to the side. "Why is it that there are two aliens protecting this planet?"
"One's only alien by heritage," Blake countered. "As for Hawkgirl-" that name is kind of pathetic "- she could just be doing it because it's right. Like the Doctor."
"Yup," the Librarian nodded. "Let's go with that."
Instantly, the entire table glared at him.
He coughed and held up four fingers. "Our last alien addition is Martian Manhunter."
"Sick name," Qrow nodded. "Guessing he's from a planet called Mart?"
"Close. Mars. And, not to sound like a broken record, is like the Doctor. Years ago, his planet was invaded and his entire homeworld was pretty much destroyed. He was the lone survivor."
Everyone looked down. "Why is it that trauma has to be necessary for them to be who they are?" Blake asked.
"The Doctor was helping people long before the Time War," the Librarian said. "And there are some heroes like that. Flash, who does have his own personal difficulties, does not have one comparable to Superman or Martian Manhunter."
"But he still has that pain."
He nodded. "Everyone does. In their own way. 'The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. And the most damaged are the wisest. All because they don't wish to see people suffer the way they did'." He looked at everyone. "Never forget that about yourselves."
Instantly, Ruby lifted a smile to her face. "Yeah! What're his powers then?"
"Shapeshifting, density manipulation, telepathy, and, I think, telekinesis."
"Density, what?" Yang asked.
"He can pass through things," Weiss explained. When everyone stared at her, her cheeks tinted red. "What? I've had comic books read to me too…"
"By a butler," Ruby giggled.
"Three more!" The Librarian placed down his cup. "Wonder Woman. Comes from a hidden island of Amazonian women. Trained all her life to fight and protect. But their queen, her mother, decreed it so the world of 'man', basically every place that isn't Themyscira, was not to be visited. That we are unruly and violent and barbaric."
Qrow sat forward. "An island completely of women and no men? Where?" He let out a cry as both of his nieces slapped him upside the head.
"She isn't wrong," Weiss muttered.
"Due to some magical heritage, she can fly, has super strength, and ridiculously fast reflexes. The gauntlets on her arms can reflect just about anything and I've seen her deflect bullets, lasers, and lightning.
"That doesn't make any sense," Yang gasped. Though Blake could tell she was jealous. She grabbed the girl's hand and squeezed it.
Yang squeezed back.
The Librarian nodded. "It often doesn't. But hey, magic. Also, she has the 'lasso of truth'! Completely unbreakable and, if touching someone, compels them to speak the truth.
"Next up, a personal favorite, Green Lantern. Well, technically a Green Lantern."
"A?" Ruby asked.
"B?" Qrow continued, earning him another smack.
"It's a title. Like a sheriff or Huntsman/Huntress. He's part of a galactic peacekeeping force. His ring, the source of his power, operates purely on willpower and imagination. It generates a hardlight-construct and is as strong as he believes it to be."
Blake's eyes widened. "How many are there?"
"Total? Thousands if not millions. From all corners of the galaxy. United to protect the weak and fight back the forces of Fear and Hatred." The Librarian started counting on his fingers. "But from Earth, there's like six…? I think that in this world, currently, there are only two on-world. The original I've only seen show up once. The current is a man by the name of John Stewart. And while he is not my personal favorite, he is the one I have seen the most of."
"What do you mean by 'see?' Qrow asked. "Do you watch their universes like how we're doing with the Doctor?"
"Exactly. But there are also multiversally aware people, or at least sensitive ones, who can 'peek' into different universes. These people typically take what they see and turn them into comics. Shows. Movies. It's an infinite world of infinite universes along an infinite set of dimensions. There's going to be ones I'm sure that Remnant artists have peeked into."
As if she were keeping a mental list, Weiss said "that's six. Who's the seventh member?"
"Is he as strong as Superman?" Yang asked.
Ruby nodded giddily. "Or as fast as Flash?"
Checking the area around them, the Librarian made a motion for everyone to lean forward. "Nope. He's just a human man."
"WHAT?!"
A few people at the table over looked back as four girls and one adult male leaned back in shock. "He doesn't have any powers?!"
"Not a single one." The Librarian smiled. "Batman is the epitome of human perseverance. After his parents were killed in front of him, he traveled the world to learn of ways to strengthen his body and protect himself. When he returned home to his city, he vowed to make it safe and to clean up the crime-ridden streets."
"But…" Blake blinked. "He doesn't have anything? He's not strong? Or tough?"
The traveler chuckled. "Oh he is, but only because he's achieved the peak level of fitness possible. He's trained his body for years. But his greatest strength is his intellect. With it, he's created hundreds of gadgets to use in his crime-fighting lifestyle. Including grappling hooks and even vehicles."
"Woah," Ruby whispered. "Does he have anything like Crescent Rose?"
"He has his batarangs," he offered. "But all of his stuff is nonlethal. Normal criminals are just that - normal. No aura. Not everyone has powers. In fact, one of Superman's greatest nemesis is also a man without any powers."
"So how smart are we talking about?" Yang asked. "Like Ruby smart? Weiss smart? Ozpin Smart?"
"It's believed that if you give Batman enough prep-time, he could take down God."
"…" There was an unbelievably long break of silence.
"That's… that's impossible," Weiss muttered.
The Librarian winked. "Not for Batman."
"Are we talking about the Brothers?" Qrow asked. There was a strange curiosity in his voice now. "Or something greater."
"The Brothers, the old pantheons, capital 'g' G, or any other in belief." He shrugged. "He once deduced that a man was shot from a time-traveling bullet."
Blake shifted in her seat. "That's… incredible. Why is he called Batman? Is he a Faunus, or something similar?"
"No," the Librarian answered. "He's turned himself into a symbol of fear for criminals. In the dark-"
It was that exact second that the entire area lost power. First went the tv screen. Then, the coffee shop. Followed by the streetlights. And lastly the surrounding area.
Blake was a Faunus. Specifically a cat-related one. So when the lights went out, she was able to see just about as well as she could when the lights were on. As everything darkened to the world, her pupils widened. The color faded and turned pale white. There was some blurriness but only along the edges. The strangest part was seeing Ruby and the Librarian's red attire turn yellow.
"Woah!" Yang exclaimed. Each of her teammates began to stand up and look around. "What's going on?"
"Seems like their dust generators broke," Qrow answered.
Ruby shook her head. "They don't use dust."
"It's the power plant," the Librarian said. He was pulling back his wrist and looking at his watch. "I'm patched into the emergency stations already. Looks like there's a fire. There are multiple explosions on the scene."
Before he had even finished his sentence, Yang was already running toward the street. Blake followed quickly behind.
"Let's go!" the blonde exclaimed.
Taking a few steps forward, Qrow shook his head and tried to grab Yang's arm. "We can let this work handle its own problems. Besides, if it's anything really bad, those justice heroes can probably handle it."
Ruby, in a blur of rose petals, ran past him. "Even more reason to go!"
Both he and Weiss grumbled for a moment. But they quickly began to chase after her. Then Yang and Blake. And finally the Librarian. Who, once again whispered in a voice only Blake could hear, "hobey-ho"
Even though he was in an alien world, Qrow Branwen's huntsman training immediately kicked in. He reached back and grabbed the handle of his sword, the Harbinger. Instinctively, he activated his aura and felt that familiar feeling of his semblance tickling his spine.
Bad luck followed him all his life. There would be no changing that. Even the Librarian's gizmo could only hold it back. He couldn't risk it being taken off and unleashing gods-knew how much bad mojo in the span of a few seconds before it returned to its normal levels. Like a dam and a river.
And it's damn annoying.
But there was a different current coursing through him. Older. And as he looked to his left and right, seeing his nieces, her teammates, and the strange man with a box running with him, he felt a strange sense of nostalgia.
Qrow shook his head. This is what I get for not getting a good drink first. My head's so clear it's thinking of things.
With the Librarian's directions, they quickly followed a street past a few skyscrapers and towards a bridge. If there was one good thing about the darkness, it let them quickly see where they were headed.
Orange fires leaped across the power plant in front of them. Ruby and he lead the charge, being the fastest, with the snow queen's sister right behind them using her glyphs. They quickly reached the apex and saw emergency vehicles against the side as people ran from the building. Thankfully, there didn't seem to be too dangerous of an injury from what he could see. Just some scrapes and coughs.
Qrow raised an eyebrow. Not bad for not having any aura.
"We need… to put out that fire," the Librarian gasped. He was the last one to join the line and was breathing heavily. "If too much of this place burns, it could mean no power in the city for who knows how long."
Ruby made a quick scan of the area. "Look! Most of the fire is in that one building." She pointed to a large housing area to the right. "My guess is that's where this started. We should focus on that.
"Uncle Qrow and Yang, you check inside to see if there's anyone still inside. Yang, take the main floor and work your way up. Uncle Qrow, do the opposite. I need Blake and Weiss to use their dust rounds to freeze the sides of the building when it's clear. I'll shoot it down when everyone gets back. And, um, the Librarian can provide coverage?"
Everyone nodded and lept into action. Though Qrow froze for a quick moment in shock. She was just like her mother.
The Librarian grabbed his shoulder. "You good man?"
Qrow shook his head. "Yeah." His eyes glanced at the bridge's ledge. "Cover for me?"
"Go fly," he nodded. Qrow gave a similar one in thanks and jumped over. This time he reached inside for the magical 'switch' inside him. As soon as it was activated, he felt his bones become lighter. His vision sharped. And feathers replaced the hairs over his body.
With a caw, he flapped his wings and Qrow, now in the form of a bird, flew upward and toward the fire. He didn't think about what happened to his clothes or his sword, they always just seemed to appear where they were when he changed back.
As he got a higher elevation, Qrow could see that Ruby was completely correct. With the exception of a few tongues, there was only one building that was truly burning. He swung to the side to avoid the smoke and flew over the girl's heads.
Like a veteran team of Huntresses, they moved. Ruby and Yang used their weapon's kickback to launch them forward. Meanwhile, Weiss continued to use her glyphs (black for gravity) as Blake used the ribbon on her gun to pull and swing her way into the power plant.
Qrow swooped down. The building they were focusing on had a glass top and it was no problem for him to press his swings to his body and smash through it. As the glass fell, so did he. And, when it hit the ground, he rolled and stood up. Once again human.
Harbinger back in his hand, he raised the large blade above his head. And, as he predicted, a column of flaming wood fell from the wall and on top of his. Qrow fell to his knee with a grunt.
Stupid semblance.
He titled his sword and rolled the opposite way. The support beam fell to the left and continued the burn. Qrow coughed and got back to his feet. Aura wouldn't protect him from smoke. He needed to be quick.
"Hey!" he yelled. "Is there anyone still here?"
There was no response except for the crackling of fire and the collapse of wood.
Qrow began to search around. He kicked down doors and found empty offices. Yelling out as he went, he soon began to descend a floor down.
The fire grew even hotter and he felt his eyes grow wet. He quickly rubbed them and yelled again. But no response. On this floor he found large metal barrels all stacked against the walls.
Qrow swung his sword, attempting to clear the smoke in front of his face. "I'm here to help!"
Again, nothing. Qrow took a step toward the next stairwell but, before he could reach it, he felt the ground shift and give way. A curse leapt to his lips as he fell down a few feet and hit the third floor down.
Thankfully, Yang broke his fall.
"Uncle Qrow!" she exclaimed. She helped him back to his feet. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, kid," he coughed. Shaking the dust from his shoulders, he got a good look at the room around him. "Which floor is this?"
"The second."
He nodded. "Good. Upstairs is all clear. Let's go."
Ruby stood across the building with her simple rifle in her hands. She had seen Yang enter a few minutes ago and was currently waiting for her to exit. Weiss and Blake were to the sides. The first used her rapier to summon glyphs across the walls while Blake was firing ice rounds to freeze spots of the wall.
She leveled her rifle and peered through the scope. Yang and (hopefully) Uncle Qrow we're still inside. The flames continued to grow and the remaining windows shattered.
Hurry up! Ruby aimed at a section of the wall covered in ice. If she was right, that would bring the wall down on the building.
There was a flash of gold amongst the red flames. Ruby let out a sigh as Yang, with Uncle Qrow, smashed through the doors.
"It's clear!" both yelled, falling to their knees and coughing.
Ruby nodded and pulled the trigger. A split-second later, a section of the wall exploded and it fell down. Turning slightly to the left, she did the same to Blake's side. The building shuddered as its supports were blasted away. It then collapsed in on itself.
Instantly, there was a flash of sparks that caused everyone to cover their eyes. But, when they dropped them, the fire was gone. What remained was being smothered beneath the building and ice.
Ruby lowered her weapon and let out a sigh. Thank Brothers that worked.
The Librarian placed his hand on her shoulder. "Good job."
"Thanks!"
Then, a deep voice. "What the heck is going on here?"
As everyone was regrouping, they all turned around and looked upward to see a man in a costume of green and black flying toward them. A green glow was surrounding him which disappeared as he landed.
A giddiness flooded the girl's body. "Is that one of the heroes?" she whispered.
The Librarian nodded. "Yup. That's Green Lantern."
Green Lantern glared at them. "Are you the ones that did this?"
"As if," Weiss scoffed. She used her blade to point at the remains of the smoldering building. "We were putting out the fire!"
There was a moment when he stopped to inspect the rubble. Green Lantern held out his fist and a bright green light shined out from the ring on his finger. A second later, he turned back and nodded.
"Seems like you're telling the truth." He studied the group of six. "Who are you?"
A red blur suddenly ran by before stopping next to the man. Flash dropped a fire extinguisher and shook off some foam from his head. "That's the rest of the- Hey! It's you guys!"
"You know these kids?"
Flash nodded. "Yeah, they were at a coffee shop I went to."
The green space-man turned back to the group. "Sounds like an awfully big coincidence."
"Coincidences happen, Green Lantern," the Librarian said. "For instance, there are multiple GL's for this one sector alone. Or a lightning bolt and some random chemicals hitting some random guy."
Both of the heroes froze. "How did you-?"
Before any of them could answer, everyone heard a loud whistling noise. They all looked up and saw a small, black-and-white rocket careening toward them.
"Look out!" Blake cried. Uncle Qrow moved to get in front of it as Green Lantern raised his fist.
The rocket exploded a few feet in front of them. As the dust settled, they all looked up to see a woman in a red, gold, and blue outfit hovering in front of them with her arms crossed. The bands on her arms glittered as her raven-black hair shook some dust from her face.
Ruby could tell Uncle Qrow's jaw was on the ground without even turning around.
"Do I need to ask why you are all just standing around?" the woman, whose costume and armaments led Ruby to think this was the one known as Wonder Woman, asked.
Before either of the heroes could answer, Weiss raised her sword and pointed it past Wonder Woman's shoulder. "Look!"
Everyone did so. Holding a smoking rocket launcher, and standing atop of the main building, was a man in the most disgusting and eye-popping costume Ruby had ever seen. Bright pink with blue accents. Facepaint covered a good majority of his visage, resembling a blue moon.
Ruby's eyes squinted. And a dark-purple gemstone around his neck.
"I'm willing to bet that's the guy who shot at us," Blake growled.
The man tossed the weapon away. "Mankind's time will be forever eclipsed! Tonight, my people will be avenged!"
"Where do these nuts come from?" Flash asked.
Yang nodded. "And where did he come up with that horrible costume?"
"I've got him," both Weiss and Green Lantern said, raising their collective weapons. But as they did, the bad guy lifted a remote and pressed a button. The ground began to rumble beneath their feet. A few yards ahead of them, a manhole cover blasted upward and a pillar of fire reached for the dark sky.
"He set off a detonation in the sewers!" the Librarian exclaimed.
Flash smirked. "That explains the horrible smell."
"It's no joke," Green Lantern added. He began to rise upward. "That's methane gas down there!"
Methane? Ruby thought. Isn't that that old archaic way to make gas?
As if to prove her point, the ground in front of them suddenly exploded. Rubble blasted into the air and the pillar of flame turned into a wall.
Instantly, Weiss made a wall of earth to protect them with her glyphs. The three heroes' eyes went wide in surprise as the group of travelers quickly defended themselves.
"If you guys can handle the fire, we can take Mr. Moonface!" Uncle Qrow yelled. He pulled out his sword and held it behind him. Eagerly, Ruby raised her scythe and cocked it.
Green Lantern shared a look with his female compatriot. "Flash and I can handle the fire. Diana, you take care of him."
Wonder Woman nodded and flew toward 'Mr. Moonface'. She waited for a moment and nodded to Uncle Qrow. He nodded and lept after her. And, before anyone could stop her, Yang gave chase as well.
"Yang!" Blake stepped forward and reached out a hand to grab the blonde. But the fire reached out too quickly and the Librarian quickly pulled her back.
"GL!" he yelled. "Make a wall!"
Not questioning why, or perhaps knowing them to be the good guys, the superhero raised his fist and green energy poured from it. Adding to Weiss' blockade, a green wall formed as the fire grew closer and closer.
Ruby looked down at their feet. "We need to stop it from spreading! Weiss, can you collapse the ground?" Before she had even finished asking, Weiss was raising her sword. "Mr. Flash, can you get us out of-"
There was a blast of wind on her face.
"-here?" Ruby, as well as Blake and the Librarian, were now a few hundred years away. From their safe point, they could see the ground collapsing slightly before another red blur brought Weiss back over to them.
"That bought us some time," the Librarian muttered. "But we need to stop that fire."
Green Lantern shuddered in midair and used his left hand to hold up his right arm. "We need water, fast!"
"I'm on it!" Flash ran to the right and toward the ocean. Ruby watched in amazement as he was able to jump off the ledge and then reappear running atop the water's surface. A trail of steam and sea-spray followed his steps as he ran further out before turning around and making a circle.
Around and around the hero went, his red trail now enveloped by the water's blue. Flash's speed soon causes his circle to rise up like a cyclone. Then, to her amazement, it moved back toward them.
Ruby's jaw was practically on the ocean floor. "How?!"
"Superspeed," the Librarian answered. "He's running so fast it's creating an updraft."
"… Can I go that fast?"
He shook his head. "Doubtful. Sorry, Ruby. But your semblance isn't going to match the speed force."
"The what?"
The cyclone crashed through the flames, sending steam in every direction as the water snuffed the fire. When it cleared, the green construct was disappearing and Flash was standing heroically with his fists on his waist.
Flash smiled and stamped on the last spark.
"You should have stayed behind, kid," Qrow grumbled. He walked behind Wonder Woman with his sword in hand. Yang had her fists up and gauntlets ready to fire.
Yang glared at her uncle. "Don't think I can handle it?"
"I don't think you know how to hold back against someone without aura," he countered.
"Aura?" Wonder Woman asked.
Yang opened her mouth to explain but she was knocked onto her back before she could. Harsh pains, like being punched by very small fists, exploded onto her chest. As she fell, Qrow planted his sword into the cement as more bullets rained down.
The stream continued towards the superheroine who crossed her wrists and blocked them easily. "Give yourself up!" she yelled.
"Never!" a voice cried back. "I know what you want. But you can't have it!"
"Have what?" Wonder Woman asked, looking up at the next story.
Yang groaned and got to her feet. "He's about to get a broken nose."
"My precious diamond."
Noticing a shadow moving above them, Yang used her gauntlets to fly upward a few feet and crash into the man just as he was about to jump down on them.
Yang and the villain fell from the railing and toward the ground a few dozen feet below. She faintly heard Uncle Qrow yell her name but it was quickly silenced as they hit the ground. Her aura flashed for a moment as they grappled. Spittle flew from his mouth as she punched him in the chest.
He fell back and groaned. Then, like it was his last hope, he clutched the rock around his neck. "Stay back! Its dark power can destroy the world."
Yang grabbed it and pulled it away from him. "Not any… more…"
The dark crystal glittered. Her face warped in its reflection. And a dark presence lept at her.
She's fine, Qrow thought. She's got her training, her aura, and her guns.
But he couldn't shake that feeling. Maybe it was just the thought of having to tell Tai he let Yang fight some nut job in another world. It wasn't a specific rule he had been given, but Qrow doubted he would care.
Having taken his arm, Wonder Woman - Diana, that green guy said - carried him safely down to the floor below. Yang's bright hair meant she stood out in the darkness. As they landed, he stepped over to her and put his arm on her shoulder.
"You got him?"
Yang turned around with the man, his facepaint now that of blood and spit with a deformed nose, in her fist. She dropped him to the ground and nodded. "He's finished."
Qrow's eyes widened and he felt Diana's gaze turn cold.
"What did you do?" they both asked.
"I took care of him." There was no humor in his niece's voice. She rubbed her wrists. "We should go. There's still much to do."
She moved to leave but Wonder Woman quickly put herself in between Yang and the exit. "I don't know who you are or where you're from, but we don't fight to hurt or kill. We fight to stop them."
Yang looked up at the superheroine. "That's what I did, didn't I? Not my fault they're all weak."
They?
She pushed past Diana and marched out the door. The woman turned to Qrow with a cold glance.
Raising his hands, Qrow did his best not to look like this wasn't their fault. "I don't know what's going on any more than you do," he said. Qrow grabbed the unconscious (and yet, still breathing) man by his arms and pulled him onto his back. He instinctively reached for his flask as he did so.
No, he thought. Whatever is going on… I need to be sober.
As they followed Yang back outside, Qrow kept trying to wonder if perhaps he was too sober.
Huge, huge thanks to my first-ever supporter!

[1] - Yes, I am aware of Supergirl, Zod, and others. But for the sake of this story and to not have to explain the entire DC universe, the Librarian summarized. Also, it connects to Doctor Who.
Ok, I think I'm going to stop there. I really wanted to get to them being in the Watchtower, but that's going to take too long. And, to be honest, I haven't had the mental power to do so since about when the fire (in-story) started. So, quite possibly, this could end up being 3 chapters instead of 2. I'll try to compact everything into the next but if I feel the pacing is off… what can I do?
Besides, this is where the episode ended.
And sorry to all you Weiss-fans for not giving her some time to shine. I will be starting off the next chapter with that so don't you worry.
Let's see… no other updates that I can think of. We've got the end of this 'original' story before going back to watching the Doctor. As I said, there could be one or two more chapters. But after that, it will be non-stop until 9th's regeneration. Then maybe a small break chapter - it won't be like this, just one small story - and then I'll be taking a brief break.
I will not be going on hiatus. Just going to take some time (a year at most) to go back and redo all the chapters. Make some much-needed edits as well as add this to the AO3.
I promise I won't leave you guys hanging.
Well, that's enough rambling. I hope everyone enjoyed this late Christmas gift. I'll see you all next year!
