Episode 145: At the edge
Rev and Randy took Vale and Edison to the Leviathan's medbay, which was a compact, white room with luminous white lights. The bed was attached to the wall. "There's only one." Rev said.
"Ed, he's way…" Vale groaned. "…more hurt than me. The floor will suffice."
Randy laid Edison on the bed carefully, he gasped while pressing his bleeding belly. "Shoot."
Rev gently laid Vale on the floor. "I told you we needed more beds."
Tech ignored Rev's statement, he was taking out some medical equipment from a drawer. "I'll take care of them, you guys go help the others." He looked at Randy and Rev for a moment. "And protect the ship, for obvious reasons."
Ace was flying with his jetpack while shooting at the robots with his laser vision, managing to damage the surface of some of them. "These are well built!" He dodged the continuous charges they shot from their cannons.
Slam hit one of them using his tornado, sending it far away from him. It smashed the ground a couple of times and immediately tried to get on its feet again, but Lexi landed before it and shot at its nucleus with her brain blast. The nucleus exploded, Lexi covered herself while stepping back, then glared at the now neutralized machine. She activated her comm. "Aim at the nucleus, guys. The..glowing yellow thing."
"Got it." Rev rushed towards one of them while dodging its shots with zig-zag movements and quick jumps, he then jumped right in front of the robot and punched its core, destroying it, making the robot fall to the ground.
A robot was making random movements while flying erratically, shooting at no objectives at all. It suddenly stopped working and fell all the way down to the concrete of the highway. Akinyi then exited from it in her smoke form and then adopted her normal form while dusting off her hands. "Thanks but I have my way, darling."
Duck threw a couple of orbs at one of the robots while hovering with his jetpack, neither of them hit the robot, they went directly onto a building, leaving two big holes on it after exploding. "Oops." He was seeing double. "They can multiply!" Duck threw another orb, failing again, this time the orb fell all the way down to the street below and exploded. The robot began to shoot at him, Duck teleported and then appeared next to Lexi on the highway. "Sis…sis I…don't feel…" His eyes widened then he got on his knees and started to vomit.
"Woah, you alright?" Lexi inquired.
"No." Duck fainted all of a sudden.
"Duck?" Lexi crouched next to him and gave him gentle pats on his face. "Duck, what's..?!" She sighed and carried him then activated her jetpack and flew towards the ship.
Randy rushed towards a robot and jumped, kicking its nucleus while using his super speed. The robot exploded after Randy landed gracefully ahead of it.
Ace evaded the shots of a robot that was chasing him in the sky, he began to fly straight upwards, looking at the robot over his shoulder while doing evasive maneuvers, he then stopped flying and looked down, focusing on the approaching robot, with his gaze locked on its nucleus, he then shot right at it and the nucleus exploded, making the robot go on free fall. "Ace, Duck is down, he fainted." Lexi said through her comm.
"What?" Ace sighed. "Take him to the ship and return, there are a couple more l…" His eyes widened when seeing three dozens of robots and three ships like the one they took down flying towards them from afar. "Damn it."
"What?" Lexi inquired.
Ace shook his head. "Abort mission."
"Are you serious? We're kicking these guys a…" Akinyi gasped when seeing what was coming, being dangerously close to them already.
"Tech! Get the ship ready to go!" Ace commanded while flying down towards his comrades.
"What happened?" Tech asked.
"Just do it!" Ace commanded angrily.
Tech exited the medbay in a hurry and entered the cockpit, activating all the systems. Lexi entered the ship while carrying Duck. Randy, Slam, Rev and Akinyi entered afterwards. Ace got in last, getting in the cockpit. "Come on! Let's go!"
"I'm on it!" Tech started to make the ship hover then he accelerated upwards. "What happened? Why ar…" The ship received a strong hit, the lights went off for a couple of seconds, Tech and Ace fell to the ground, as everyone else. Tech groaned while getting quickly onto his feet and looking at the radar on the window's hud. "Damn it." He saw the three ships chasing the Leviathan, displayed as three red dots.
"Can you take them out?" Ace inquired while standing up, using Tech's chair to help himself maintain balance.
"Absolutely." Tech made the ship turn to face the three ships and then chose a weapon using the buttons on the console, he then began to fire at the ships with the machine guns of the Leviathan, yelling while doing so, the bright red charges hit the three ships continuously as Tech aimed at each one of them quickly. The one in the middle exploded. "Hah!" Tech kept shooting, then one of the enemy ships shot a strong charge at the Leviathan, making it shake violently.
"Shields at medium capacity." A female robotic voice informed.
Tech had held tight on the control sticks, he then switched to the plasma cannon and shot at one of the ships, destroying it completely. The remaining ship flew to the side, getting away from Tech's sight for a moment. "Oh no you won't…" Tech changed the weapon again, choosing the laser beam, he turned to the left and before he could fire, the ship shot again and the Leviathan shook violently. The energy went completely off. Tech breathed in and out anxiously while getting onto his feet, walking towards the console. "Come on babe come on…" Tech began to press several buttons. "You can't do this now!"
Ace got up while groaning, rubbing his side. "Doc, that thing will…" The enemy ship started to fire at the Leviathan with its machine guns. "Tech! How long until the shields run out!" Ace yelled as the laser charges that were hitting the ship made a lot of noise.
"We have no shields now! The system is dea..!" Tech left his phrase unfinished as the energy returned all of a sudden, letting out a sigh of relief. "Hell yeah." Tech rushed towards the control sticks and then accelerated while flying around the enemy ship, he waited until it got tracked by the ship's aim system then he fired and the beam hit the ship right on the backside. It exploded as Tech accelerated towards the sky, getting off planet after a couple of minutes.
Ace was breathing in and out with relief while sitting next to Tech. "We barely made it."
"Yes." Tech replied, he then activated the autopilot. "I have to keep attending Vale and Edison, tell Rev to come here and pilot for me."
Lexi was in Duck's room, sitting at the edge of the bed, she was listening to his breathing, making sure he kept doing so. Duck opened his eyes and let out a long sigh. "Sorry."
"Hey, it's not your fault, maybe you caught a virus or something." Lexi replied.
Duck stood silent for a moment. "Yeah, that must be it." He yawned.
"Tech is busy right now but he'll check you out aft…" Lexi got interrupted.
"No, no I'm fine. It won't be necessary." Duck said nervously.
Lexi raised an eyebrow. "Uhm, he's the doctor here, he has to see you, what if it's something serious?"
"I don't think so." Duck said conclusively.
"Oh you don't think so, that eases up my mind so much." Lexi got onto her feet. "He will check you, end of story." She waited for a reply. "Duck." Her comrade had fallen asleep, as he was starting to snore. Lexi sighed and walked away from him, exiting his room afterwards.
Tech was wrapping Edison's torso with the special bandages he developed. "You'll be like new in a couple of days."
Vale was feeling the smooth texture of the bandages that covered his belly. "Thanks."
"That's why I'm here." Tech took their folded suits from a table and handed them to them. "You can put them on again." He exited the medbay.
Vale stood up and put on his bodysuit while groaning and gasping. Someone knocked the door a couple of times. "Come in."
Akinyi entered the medbay and blushed for a moment. "Oh, sorry guys I…"
"It's alright." Edison groaned while straightening a bit. "I need some help with this." He lifted his bodysuit.
"Oh, sure babe." Akinyi approached him. "Can you like…stand up?"
"Yes, but…" Edison tried to get his feet off the bed while groaning loudly.
"Oh, hey babe no…you stay as you are, let me…" Akinyi lifted one of his legs and got it in his bodysuit gently, then she went on with the next one.
