He had a headache. He had thought that All Might's training was terrible. Surge's was about 10 times worse. The routine he was following had forced him to go and meet Chansey again during the first few days.
But he couldn't argue the results. He was now up to 8% of Full Cowling, and was now able to complete the training without needing Chansey. But today was the first day of sparring. Yea, this was going to suck.
"Ok kid. Listen carefully. We're gonna have a quick and easy match. No hard hits, and no powers. Just use technique. Alright?" He nodded to Surge getting into a stance.
Sliding his right leg back, keeping his leg shoulder length apart. Raising his hands to guard his face. Turning his torso just a bit, and stepping forward with his left foot. Surge nodded approvingly.
"Good stance kid, seems you aren't completely clueless. Try being less stiff. Relax your body a bit." Izuku relaxed his both a bit, the stance feeling a little more natural now.
Surge grinned when he noticed Izuku's shoulders droop ever so slightly. "Now kid, I ain't the best with technique, but I am quiet good at fighting if I do say so. Now come at me."
He was defeated in under a minute. Around 33 seconds if he was correct. He rushed in immediately, guessing that due to Surge's size, his speed and size would be his greatest asset.
As it turned out, he was wrong. Oh so very wrong.
Almost immediately, Surge slapped away his jab and almost took his head off with a powerful hook. Luckily he managed to dodge underneath it. Unluckily, he wasn't able to dodge Surge's knee.
He saw it coming and was going to back up to avoid it, but Surge had other plans. Using the arm he threw a hook with, grabbed him by the back of the shirt, and pulled him into the knee.
As he toppled onto the floor, having his air knocked out of him, Surge laughed as he walked to their stuff. "I see what you were tryna do there, kid. It probably would've worked if you were a bit faster. But you ain't so you lost." Surge turned back to him with a grin before tossing him a bottled water.
It landed on his side before sliding onto the floor. Surge called out to him before exiting the room. " Take a hour break kid. Study a little more about types and the region's pokemon, eat, drink - whatever you need or want to do. Just know, after time's up, we're doing it again." By the end of his little monologue, he shivered as a sadistic grin grew across Surge's face.
Seeing his face, Surge laughed it off. " And remember kid, you asked for the training that gave the most results, not what you were ready for. You dug your grave and know your gonna lay in it."
He hung his head low when he was reminded of his request. He may have - just a teensy bit - underestimated the man.
But he was right after all. He did ask for it; and the results are showing, so he'll just have to deal with it.
Surge popped his head back in the room before speaking. " OH! Right! Before I forget, your trainer test is going to be next week. Also your application for the trainer fund has been approved. They'll start sending you 2,000 poke each month." Surge left before Izuku could say anything.
Despite him knowing he would be getting his ass kicked once again in an hour, that couldn't deter the smile spreading across his face.
It was time. He needed to take the trainer test.
He. COULD. NOT. FAIL.
This was his chance to go find a way to get back to his world. Get back to his home. And get back to his friends, All Might, his - his mom. She would be destroyed if he disappeared. He needed to get back, and this wasn't going to stop him.
But first, he needed to register to take the test. The forms he had to sign reminded him a lot of UA - he should stop that line of thought before it hurts him.
"Alright! That's it, Izuku. Go down the hall on your right, the test is going to be in room 24. Once you enter you can go ahead and start immediately. Good luck!" The receptionist pointed him in the right direction once he finished signing the paper.
As he made his way down the hall, he couldn't help but smile. This reminded him way too much as his entry exam at UA. He made his way into the room. A couple other people were already seated taking the test.
A proctor was in the corner of the room along with a pokemon, an Alakazam. They were strong physics and known to have IQ's in the thousands. Probably here to make sure nothing shady happens.
He looked at the white board that was at the font of the room noting the rules of the test. The rules of the test were like every other, no cheating, the test was active for an hour, and no talking to other test takers.
He sat down and got to work. After all his study, it was pretty easy. Type weaknesses, how to care for pokemon, different scenarios - all these things and more were in the test. And he blew past it.
After about 30 minutes of work, he stood up. He could feel some people staring at him as he got up and turned his test into the proctor. Even the proctor seemed surprised.
"A-are you sure you're done? It's only been about half an hour. The test doesn't end for another hour!" The proctor managed to get out after a couple seconds of staring.
He smiled at his surprised expression and responded with a nod, before making his way out of the classroom. He ignored the kids staring at his back on the way out.
As he was making his way home, he couldn't help but feel empty. He was here trying to get a chance of getting back home while everyone he cared for was doing god knows what back home.
Hell he didn't even know where to start. But those feelings could wait until later. Right now, he needed to focus on getting a lead on building a team to blend in and finding information to get home.
He started taking deep and slow breaths to slow his heart. His anxiety has been growing worse, and he needed to clear his mind. Luckily Surge helped him curb some of his stuttering, or at least when only talking to him.
He hasn't really talked to other people besides polite greetings and occasional small talk. They've been trying to get him to open up to other people, but he doesn't have time to create bonds here. He needs to get home. He needs to get to his family.
When he got back, he was met with Surge, Nurse Joy, and Chansey waiting for him. Chansey waved to him while Surge grinned and gestured to the box he was holding in his hands.
As made his way to them, Nurse Joy was the first to speak. " Congrats on passing the exam, Izuku." He met her own smile with one of his own.
"Chansey, Chanseyy!" Chansey ran over and patted his arm while vibrating with excitement.
Despite his joy at seeing them here, he still didn't know why they came. So he decided to voice his thoughts. "Not that I'm not happy to see you guys or anything, b-but why are you here? Isn't it going to take a couple days before my results are released?" He cringed when he stuttered but relaxed a bit when Surge waved it off.
Nurse Joy simply giggled at his response. "Izuku, what pokemon was with the proctor of the exam?" She asked with a patient tone.
Izuku felt that he was missing something here. "It's an Alakazam, but. . . oh." He felt stupid at the sounds of Surge's boisterous laughs and Chanasey's and Nurse Joy's laughs.
"Y-yea… I didn't really think about it like that. Probably should check out what pokemon help in other jobs for future references."
Surge slapped his shoulder, with another laugh. "C'mon kid, you can study later! Right now we got something to give ya. Take the box."
Izuku did as told and looked inside to find a pokeball on padding. He smiled softly at what he guessed was already in the box. He looked back up at them and mustered the biggest smile he could. "Thanks you guys. . . for everything. I appreciate it."
Surge's smile grew a little softer as he gestured for him to take the box. "Stop getting all sentimental on us kids and open the ball. Check out your starter. Way damn better than what most kids get."
So he obliged. He pressed the center button on the pokeball, releasing the pokemon stored inside.
The second it came out it looked around before nodding to Surge and sticking his hand out to Izuku.
"Elekid." The little pokemon that came up to his mid-thigh was yellow and decorated in black stripes. 2 circled each of his arms going all the way around; its arms ending in 3 claws instead of fingers. Its round body made its arms seem disproportionate. It's 2 horns mimicking a power plug. A black lightning bolt was on its chest accentuated by 2 stripes wrapping around the it's body but stopping on the bolt.
Realizing he was starring, Izuku met the pokemon's outstretched hand with his own. "Hello Elekid, my name is Izuku Midoriya, your new trainer. I hope we get along well."
"Elekid." He nodded in agreement.
Surge laughed once they were done. "Stoic little guy he is. One of the more adventurous of Electrivire's kids." At Izuku's questioning look, he continued. "Electivire is an evolution to Electabuzz. He's a member of my main team. That's why you haven't seen him in battle."
Izuku nodded in understanding. He knelt down and turned to Elekid. "Alright buddy, since we're gonna be together for a while, do you want a nickname?"
Elekid seemed to think about it for a moment before nodding. "How does Raijin sound? It's a god of thunder from where I come from." Elekid gave a small smile and nodded in acceptance.
Izuku felt ecstatic. He was finally a step closer to getting home. He ignored the weird feeling he felt within his quirk.
Thanks for reading once again. Leave any suggestions and feedback about the story. Leave any pokemon you think he should catch. Also what do you guys think about the ending? Izuku's quirk stockpiles energy. Pokemon use different energy to power their moves. Should Izuku's quirk take in some of that energy or not. Should his quirk "evolve" or should I leave it as is?
