Chapter 7
A lot has happened in such a short time but to those like us, it's been a long time coming. After what my daughter did, I had to leave her in the hands of the elders. I couldn't go against the Tree, I had to let them do what they saw fit. Taking Yvette's powers was their only way of stopping her from doing any more harm but what we didn't realize was that she was never the threat. She was only a part of the prophecy because she brought the one that would carry it out into this world.
She didn't know being with a Jones would cause all of this and she certainly didn't know the true lengths James would go to have power. I did, I saw him doing it too but I couldn't intervene. That was a part of the oath I took, an oath that pulled me away from the very women who had broken it recently.
Josephine intervened, got mixed up with that unsavory man and now I had to come out of my sleep to help my only grandchild. I'd never met her and Yvette didn't even know I was still alive. I was summoned then I entered a deep sleep that ended the moment her powers activated.
Now I had to take care of things because it was clear Yvette hadn't taught Mercedes how to defend herself and now she was about to stumble upon an even bigger threat. The Obsidian Clan.
Sam saw the man and couldn't understand why he was looking in a mirror, he knew for a fact that he didn't have a twin. He also didn't like the way he was holding on to Mercedes or the look on his face but he couldn't do anything with him holding her so tightly.
"I know you can feel that." The man said to Mercedes and she bit her lip nervously because she did. It wasn't like anything she ever felt before, it was energy just flowing through her and it felt… so damn intoxicating.
"He can't give that to you, only I can and I can show just how powerful you really are, you just have to choose me." He continued and his voice was no longer haunting to her, it made goosebumps form on her skin and she felt her cheeks grow warm at his gaze.
"Ch-choose you?" She questioned and he smirked.
"Yes sweetheart, you just have to choose me and this… that feeling you have will always stay. All you have to say is-" He started but was cut off when Sam growled and Mercedes seemed to come out of her trance that she didn't even know she was under. She moved away from him shaking her head feeling foggy and very unsure of herself.
"No you don't mean me good." She said and his smile dropped forming into a deep frown.
"I mean nothing but good, sweetheart." He responded before being tackled by Sam.
RUN!
This darkness is uncommon.
It's her.
That's impossible; she can't be meant for both prophecies.
She will bring us out of the darkness and we will finally be able to over take the wolves and the witches.
She is a witch.
She's more than that… send Adira and Erith.
We can't send them-
Send them.
…
"Shit, shit, shit." Mercedes said, breathing out looking around confused. She wasn't sure what side of the woods she was in but she knew she was in deep. She looked around trying to catch her breath before seeing her surroundings slowly changing around her. She wasn't in the woods anymore, she was… somewhere else.
"No, this… this isn't real." She said to herself shaking her head and closing her eyes. She was just in the woods and hadn't moved, she blinked a few times but she was still seeing the same thing.
"Careful, we don't want to scare her." She heard but when she looked around she didn't see anyone.
"How cute, she's trying to see us." Another voice said and Mercedes closed her eyes again, willing whatever was being put over her was lifted.
When she opened her eyes she saw two women standing there looking at her with devilishly alluring smirks.
"Well, aren't you just... delicious."
Sam was tussling with the man but he noticed he never shifted. His moves were precise and every attack Sam tried he already had a counter-attack planned.
You won't win this, give up.
Sam growled. "Who are you?"
Jackson only smirked. Hitting Sam directly in his chest, knocking the wind out of him and forcing him to shift back to his human form.
"You have no idea what forces lie beyond these woods. That girl will be the undoing of you."
"She is mine to protect!" Sam grunted.
"She belongs to no alpha until she is marked and you have not marked her." Jackson pointed out and Sam froze because he heard how he worded it.
Jackson smirked seeing that he realized that there were more alpha's out there and once they heard about her they would try to mark her. Sam looked at him before hearing her heavy breathing, she was too deep in the woods to be near the pack house.
Jackson's face turned menacing. "She is a lamb walking among wolves and you lead her right into their den." He sneered. "You can't even protect her from me and you expect others to think she's yours? Ha! You fool, you are a boy playing at being an Alpha!" He added his voice now booming.
Sam started to feel weird and light headed. Something was trying to invade his mind rather, someone. He could faintly hear a soft voice saying give me access. He shook his head violently trying to stop them. He looked up at Jackson who seemed to be having the same issue only he was snarling and damn near on his knees.
GIVE ME ACCESS!
Sam growled out from the ringing the voice caused in his head and ears. He felt his body trying to shift the harder he fought before he felt the invasion in his mind.
He is right. She must be marked before the next full moon.
The voice was softer and kinder then it had been initially. Sam looked around but only saw Jackson still writhing. He started to move over to him but was stopped by a force field.
What is this?
I can only hold him for so long, you must find her and take her somewhere safe.
Why are we connected? Why is this happening to us?
Fate.
Mercedes looked at the two women standing in front of her, they were looking at her like she was a piece of meat and she didn't like it at all.
"You think too loud." One of them said.
"Huh?" She asked and they just smirked.
"So you're the one causing all this trouble and you don't even know who we are… tsk, tsk." The other said, circling around her.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Mercedes lied.
"You hear that Erith? She doesn't know what we're talking about."
"Ha, little thing thinks she can lie her way out of this… can you smell her Adira? That's a new smell… one bite is all I need." The one called Erith said Mercedes knew she needed to get away from them but she wasn't sure how.
"Look, I don't know what weird game you two are playing at but I don't have time for it, just let me leave." Mercedes said to the both of them and they both shared a look before laughing.
"You're not going anywhere we don't want you to go." Erith said and that's when Mercedes saw them, her fanged teeth.
Vampires? She thought and realized she was in over her head before noticing the women tense up, the one called Adira moved around before scrunching her face in disgust.
"Wolf." She muttered.
"They didn't say anything about wolves, it's only us, we don't have everyone with us." Erith replied and Mercedes looked confused because she didn't see anyone. She looked around before letting out a loud yelp as she felt something sharp sink into her neck.
"Fuck!" Erith said backing away and Adira scowled.
Mercedes felt immense pain throughout her body before feeling lightheaded. Everything started to blur around her but she could see that the two women looked petrified, their voices sounded muffled and it seemed like everything was going in slow motion but she was able to make out one thing before passing out.
"She's marked."
"What the hell are we supposed to do with her?" Maxine asked the other witches as they looked at Josephine laying there lifeless. They brought her back to the shared house they used for meetings and gatherings.
It wasn't anything fancy on the outside, just an old beat up house that was heavily warded against evil, only a witch from their coven could enter.
"We can try getting into her head and seeing what she's done but that could kill her if we all tried to do it." Ida suggested.
Talia shook her head. "That won't work, there's something wrong within her… I can feel it. It's dark and eating at whatever good nature she did have."
"We need to call the other women, we can't make this decision alone… not for something like this." Nora said as the door flew open and they were greeted by a familiar face.
"Seems we all have a common problem here."
"Darlene… what, no you're dead." Maxine said and Darlene smirked.
"I'm sure Jo wanted you all to think that but I am very much alive and I think it's time Josephine get's the treatment she deserves." Darlene replied, as two more women appeared.
"Seems we're all here now, minus a few." Beverly, another member of their coven said.
"I hope you don't mind, I thought it was time we ALL dealt with Josephine." Darlene said looking over at Terese, she was a member any of them dreaded seeing because her powers were so vast.
Terese had the power of banishment and divination, sure they all were very powerful but the means in which Terese used her powers made her a threat. She would sink into someone's mind and extract the knowledge she needed before banishing them to a place only she knew about.
"Now shall we have an old-fashioned meeting?" Darlene asked right as Josephine started muttering.
They looked at her before seeing her slowly rising off of the bed and levitating over it. She kept muttering the same thing over and over but neither of them could understand what she was saying. Darlene moved closer to the woman, feeling the temperature dropping the closer she got.
She has been chosen. She has been chosen. She has been chosen. She has been chosen.
"What is she saying?" Talia asked.
"She has been chosen."
"Who has?" Beverly asked and Josephine's head jerked up and they all gasped.
Her eyes were completely black with only a hint of red, she looked like she was full of life again. That is when the other women realized she had only pretended to be affected by them binding her.
"She's tapped into dark magic." Terese said. "I can feel the shift, there's something off about her aura."
"She has been CHOSEN!"
"Beverly, salt the area around her. Talia, try to pull the negative energy out of her." Terese instructed.
After Beverly salted the area, Talia rubbed her hands together before entering the area. She could feel the negative energy and focused on it before closing her eyes and bringing her hands up before lowly chanting. She was calling for the negative energy but something was wrong, she felt like something was invading her.
"Something is wrong!" Beverly gritted out and they could see her straining.
"Oh for goodness sake." Teres said walking directly up to Jospehine and placed her hand onto her forehead. Josephine immediately went limp and Beverly fainted.
"Terese-"
Terese held her hand up before grabbing Josephine's arm and sighing. "I'm sorry old friend." She said softly before they both disappeared.
"We shouldn't have let her do that." Ida said going over to check on Beverly. "Now we won't know what she got herself into and we won't know who she was talking about when she kept repeating 'she's been chosen."
"She was talking about my grandchild, she was bitten by the Alpha." Darlene informed.
"Which Alpha?" The women asked in unison and Darlene sighed.
"He bit her and managed to get her out of reach." Adira said, looking angry.
"How the hell is that possible? You two were supposed to capture her and bring her to me while Jackson took care of him."
"Adelrick, we-"Erith started but stopped when the older gentleman gave her a death stare.
"How exactly did he manage to bite her?" He asked, looking at both women angrily.
"He came from downwind, we didn't sense him until he was already close." Adira explained.
"So where did he take her?" Adelrick asked.
Adira and Erith both shared looks before shaking their heads.
"You don't know?"
"We lost him when he entered the east side of the woods, it was masked or hidden by something." Erith answered and Adelrick just slowly nodded.
"I guess it's time I met with an old friend." He muttered before waving them away.
"Who bit her Darlene?" Nora asked and she seemed frantic to know the answer.
Darlene moved closer to the woman and looked her over. "Who else would bite her?" She countered and Nora took a step back.
"The true Alpha." Darlene answered, she was careful with her wording and watched the woman's features and body language before slowly nodding. "How many of you knew about the other Alpha and didn't say anything?"
"It wasn't us… we weren't aware until we came across the Jones matriarch. She told us that we needed to watch for him but we didn't know about the twin." Ida explained and Darlene shook her head confused.
"He's not an Alpha." Darlene said.
"But he is…" Everyone turned and saw Terese standing there absent Josephine. "He's a Steelridge Wolf and he can very well be the dark that is mentioned in the prophecy, if she chooses him… it's over."
"She was bitten." Ida reassured.
"She's been marked, she hasn't been claimed. There's a difference, an Alpha wolf marked her. She can't be harmed and is under his protection but that doesn't mean another Alpha can't claim her."
"Claim her? No that's not mentioned… it's never said that." Nora said, shaking her head.
"It's because Jo didn't want us to know." Beverly said softly. "The energy was pushing me away because she was hiding things, the darkness in her was blocking me. She managed to shift it to where it protected her from my magic… but I saw something."
"What did you see?" Nora asked and they all waited for her to reply.
"Jackson isn't who he claims to be." Beverly said, looking directly at Maxine. "You know him, all of you do."
"I need to find my grandchild." Darlene said.
"She's safer with him and besides where they are… it's out of our reach. The area is protected by another witch, I tried to go there but I got kicked back." Terese said.
"Another witch? Who?" Darlene questioned and Terese just shrugged.
"She's warded, I couldn't see her but she… is very strong and she's coming for us."
Sooo... what ya think? All questions will be answered you just have to ask!
