Summary: Team Metal finished their mission but at the cost of their lives. Or at least, that's how it is on Earth. To their great confusion, they woke up in tip-top shape and armed to the teeth. They know why they're there. And they'll be damned before they fail their mission. Remnant is dying, and there aren't enough people who are both willing and skilled enough to save it.
Notes: I won't show their "deaths" because we all know how they died. (More or less. Killed either by Russians or a mine collapse caused by Russians.) I will use their code names because only one real name is given. Godlike!Team Metal.
Chapter 1: First Target
Sandman didn't make a sound when he opened his eyes. Last he checked, the Russians got so sick of trying to kill them that they did some kamikaze shit that killed Team Metal and themselves. He slowly reached for his pistol just in case and surveyed the area. 'I can't be alone.' He saw Metal-03 to his left. 'Grinch?' "Hey, Grinch. On your feet."
Grinch opened his eyes and saw his CO. "Boss?" He jumped up, and the first thing he noticed was the cleanliness of their uniforms and the amount of ammo and guns they had. "Where are we, sir? And how do we have so much ammo? I know for a fact you used your last mag because I gave you one of mine."
"Unknown. Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth." He scanned the area with the red dot on his ACR 6.8 and saw nothing. 'I wonder if the others are here.' "Truck, Frost! Do you copy?" Nothing. "I repeat. Truck and Frost. Do you copy?" He heard bushes being moved behind him. "Identify yourselves!" He saw four gloved hands slowly show themselves, and after a few seconds, the new arrivals stood with their hands up. "Truck, Frost, at ease."
They put their hands down, and Truck snorted. "Easy, boss. We're on your side. Do you know where we are or how we got here? And why do I have 20 pounds of ammo on me?"
"Unknown. We'll take care of that later. For now, we look for a way out of here." He was about to start moving north but a deep voice stopped him.
The "man" was all gold and had no face. He also had ram horns. Its voice was deep but peaceful. "I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you and be done with it?"
"Because I know why you're here. You're here because this world is rotting, and I need people willing and skilled enough to save it and only you four are qualified."
Truck pointed his M4 at the "man." "What are you? Some sort of god?"
"Yes, I am. I am the god of light."
Grinch scanned the area to make sure they were alone. "I see. But what we have on us won't last forever."
"Indeed, it won't. However, there is a concrete bunker 17 kilometers west of here. It has everything you need."
Sandman accepted this new info and mission and slightly lowered his weapon. "Alright, give us a SitRep."
"The four major powers are Vale, Atlas, Vacuo, and Mistral. There are monsters in the world called Grimm that come in all shapes and sizes and shapes. Everyone has something called aura. It protects every square inch of their body until it's drained, either by using their semblance too much or taking too many hits. And there are hunters and huntresses with one superpower that belongs to them and only them, you four included. Sandman can project a near-impenetrable shield, Grinch can slow time for one second every five minutes, Truck can greatly accelerate the healing process, and Frost can teleport up to ten meters. That is all. Good luck." The god of light faded from existence and left Team Metal in the forest.
Sandman chuckled. "We must be stupid to accept something like this."
Grinch snorted. "Yeah, like what we did on Operation: Black Tuesday was any smarter."
"True enough. Let's move, Metal." Everyone started jogging north.
Meanwhile, Ozpin
Ozpin felt a strange energy spike coming from just outside the Beacon portion of the Emerald Forest. 'Hell, I think everyone felt that. I better have someone investigate.' "Glynda? Please bring me Teams RWBY and JNPR."
Glynda nodded. "Is it about that strange energy spike?"
"Indeed. Could be nothing but better safe than sorry."
A few minutes later
Both the requested teams walked into Ozpin's clocktower-style office with curiosity written on their faces. Ozpin just pulled them out of class for some reason and they wanted to know why. Ruby smiled brightly. "Hello, Prof. Ozpin."
"Hello, Ruby." Ozpin cleared his throat. "I'll get right to it. There was an energy spike slightly inside the Vale border, and I need you eight to find out what it could have been. I'm not saying you will find anything, but I still want you to look. Should you find someone, I want you to capture that person alive. Any questions?" No one said anything. "You will receive extra credit if you complete this mission. You leave in one hour." Ozpin gave a reassuring smile. "That'll be all. Dismissed."
30 minutes later, Beacon Airfield
"What do you think we'll find?" Asked Ruby.
"I don't know. Aliens?" Said Yang.
Weiss glared at Yang. "Of course not. There's no such thing as aliens."
Ruby looked at Yang with wonder. "Aliens? Do you think we'll find them?"
Jeanne shrugged. "Don't know, don't care. I just want to get that extra credit and leave."
"Pancakes…," said Nora.
Ren just sighed and said nothing.
Two hours later, Team Metal
Sandman heard a large group of people rummaging through a forest. "We have company. Grinch and Frost will use snipers from the trees, Truck and I will hide in the bushes and provide cover fire. Frost will fire the first shot but do not fire until the first body hits the floor."
The team nodded. "Sir!"
Sandman and Truck lay prone in bushes that allowed near-invisibility until they fired their weapons. Even though the bushes were a bright color, they were Delta Force. They could hide anywhere if they had to. In the trees, Frost lined up the red dot with the one dressed in bright yellow and had big "assets." They were too close to use the scope, but with the whole "aura" thing, they didn't want to take any chances. After all, it's nothing a .50 BMG round can't fix.
With RWBY and JNPR
Everyone was excited about Ozpin's mission, everyone except for Jeanne. Something didn't feel right to him. Like he was being watched by a wolf. "Hey, guys? I got a bad feeling about this."
Yang punched him in the arm, knocking him over. "Come on, Jeanne. Don't be such a downer. All we need to do is investigate the area and capture anyone if there's anyone to capture. It can't be that hard." Yang felt a sudden weird feeling in her chest and fell over. "What?" She passed out soon after.
Both teams watched as Yang took a bullet to the right lung and the back. Her remaining and, thankfully, very potent aura did its best, but she would die if she didn't receive emergency medical attention. The remaining members of Team RWBY dove behind the nearest object that could protect them from the flying bullets. Ruby wanted so badly to rescue her half-sister, but if she tried, she might end up dead too. She froze. Her sister is bleeding out on the ground, and everyone else is pinned down. 'What do I do, what do I do, what do I do?!' She felt a hand on her shoulder. "Jeanne?"
He snorted. "Sorry, it's just me. We need to get ourselves and Yang out of here."
"How?!" Ruby had to use her semblance to keep her head on her shoulders as a bullet penetrated the rock she was using as cover.
"By surrendering." He looked at his team and saw they weren't doing much better. Nora couldn't fire her weapon without risking friendly fire, Ren had no hope of challenging long-range specialists with this kind of firepower, and Pyrrha was using her semblance to keep herself alive. She had no time to attack. "I've already called for backup and medical."
Ruby nodded. "If it'll help save Yang…"
"Slowly raise your scythe over the rock, and the others should follow suit."
She did so, and then seconds later, the shooting stopped. A male voice came from somewhere in front of them. "We accept your surrender. The blonde girl has a minute and a half to live. Get moving."
Jeanne took charge of the situation because Ruby was still stuck. "Ruby, grab your sister, run south, and don't stop until you see the medics. We'll be right behind you."
Ruby used her semblance, and the two sisters quickly left the area, along with the other members of Beacon Academy.
Team Metal
Sandman nodded to himself. "Reinforcements should be along shortly. Let's make like a herd of turtles!" Team Metal made a beeline for their supposed bunker.
Three days later, Vale General Hospital
Yang slowly opened her eyes and felt like shit. Everything hurt, especially her right side. She also noticed she was in a hospital bed but was too tired to care. Yang groaned. "What happened?"
Ruby hugged her sister. "Thank the gods you're okay."
"Ruby, what happened?"
"You were fatally shot. The doctors said the bullet zipped right past your aura and buried itself in the dirt. The EMTs and EMSs were able to save your life, but there were a lot of close calls."
"Who shot me?"
"No idea. By the time we knew what was happening, you were already on the ground."
"How did everyone else react?"
"We've been visiting you for the last three days. That's how long you've been out by the way. And they're taking it about as well as you'd expect. Jeanne is a hero, by the way. He was the one who told me to take you, run, and never look back until you were safe. One else was hurt beyond minor injuries. "
"That's good. What does Ozzy have to say about all this?"
"He has teams searching high and low, but they haven't found anything."
Yang closed her eyes again. 'I'm tired.' That's interesting, I guess." She fell back to sleep, and Ruby left her older half-sister alone.
Six hours later, Team Metal
Team Metal found the bunker they were looking for. It was filled with military equipment. Guns, ammo, medical, drones, computers, and even cyber-attacking software and stuff. It was massive too. The bunker could hold a small army, but that probably wouldn't happen.
Sandman looked at the briefing room. "This looks like something out of a sci-fi movie." A large table that could project 3D images was in the center of the room. "We've already seen the rest of this place. Our next step is to find a problem and solve it. Frost, figure out how to use this stuff and find us a target. Truck, take inventory. I want to know what's in here and how much. Leave nothing unchecked. Grinch, see what kind of security this place has. I'll be helping Frost." They saluted him and left to do their assigned tasks. Except for Frost, as he was already working
Sandman looked at what Frost was doing. He was pulling up news articles, Remnant's Most Wanted list, areas with the highest crime rate, and researching the need-to-knows of this new world. "Damn, Frost. You work fast." Frost just nodded. "That's about all I'll get out of him.' He looked at the news articles and stuff. "White Fang steals 1 million liens worth of dust. Interesting, but dust robberies aren't our priority now." He narrowed his eyes at the next one. "White Fang massacres hundreds in Airport Shooting." 'That sounds painfully familiar.' "Good work Frost. Now tell me where-" Frost pointed to a spot on a map of Vale. "Oh wow, Mountain Glenn. According to the map, that's not far from here. I'm surprised we didn't run into it." Frost pointed to what was next to it. "Oh. That's why." There were at least five clicks of trees between them and the Mt. Glenn area.
Grinch and Truck reentered the briefing room. "You two finish up?"
"Yes, sir." Said Truck. "There's enough equipment and money to start a war if we wanted to. I also found 20 F-16s and an underground runway. We also have plenty of maintenance gear and rockets and other things. Everything else is on this notepad."
Truck handed the notepad to Sandman. "Good work. Grinch, what does security look like?"
"This place is poorly hidden, but it's also a fortress. Even if they find this place, it's guarded by minefields, barbed wire, motion-sensing Gatling guns, everything." Said Grinch.
Sandman nodded. "Good, we'll probably need it. Frost, show me everything you have on the White Fang." Frost nodded and pulled up news articles, public police reports, GrimTube videos, and other miscellaneous items on the 3D projector. "Our first target is the White Fang terrorist organization."
"How organized are they?" Asked Truck.
"Very. But the good news is, we've dealt with worse, and as organized as they are, they're not trained. Fanatic and zealous but not trained. Our plan is total eradication, but we'll do this properly."
Grinch looked at the maps. "Do we know where they're based?"
"No." Answered the Sandman. "However, we have a pretty good idea about where they'll strike next."
Truck had his observations. "Somewhere populated and busy. Unfortunately, we might have another 9/11 or at least something similar." He pointed at the business sector, which had many skyscrapers and office buildings. "It must be somewhere in this area. Nowhere else has that many people crowded in one area at one time."
Sandman sighed. "Good work. Our next step is finding the exact area, and I would rather not take shots in the dark and hope we get lucky."
"What if we all positioned ourselves around the target area with snipers and assault rifles. We are prepared for anything."
Grinch nodded. "That'll work. If it's a mini-invasion, Sandman and Truck will go to the ground and use their ARs while Frost and I use snipers from rooftops."
Sandman approved. "That'll work. I want Frost and Grinch on this rooftop-" He pointed to the tallest skyscraper. "And Truck and I patrol the area and look for anything suspicious while you two watch out backs. Any questions?" No one said anything. "Good. We move in one hour."
Three hours later, at nighttime, with Grinch
Grinch looked down at the crowd of people through his IR scope and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but his gut told him something was about to happen. Suddenly, he saw many people with guns. "Sir, you seeing' what I'm seeing?"
"I am. Snipers, fire at will." Said Sandman through the radio.
The sniper team proved to be hell on the advancing White Fang. They tried firing their weapons and throwing grenades. That only works when you know where the shots are coming from. Their .50 BMG AP rounds continued to punch through any armor and cover they used, and after 35 kills, they started to go around the snipers only to run right into Sandman and Truck. The remaining 20 dropped like flies.
Frost narrowed his eyes after he fired his last shot. 'That was too easy.' He scanned the area again and saw one more person with what he thought was a detonator. He took the shot and killed the man instantly before he could set off the explosives. Now he looked around for explosives. He found them on the pillars in the basement of the building behind Sandman. Frost is a man of few words, but this must be addressed. "Boss, I see four IEDs in the basement of the building directly behind you, and I can't hit them from here. Orders?"
"If the cops are smart, they'll search every building in a one-mile radius. They'll find it. Let's book it before the cops get here." Said, Sandman.
Team Metal stole a car and calmly drove toward their HQ.
Two days later, a news article
White Fang Massacred in Jackson Office Plaza!
55 White Fang dead in a failed riot!
Two days ago, the White Fang attempted to destroy several buildings in Jackson Plaza but were thwarted by unknown forces. Police found no survivors and were able to disarm the bombs in the surrounding buildings. No one knows who they were. And the public does not care. 95% of people are glad that terrorists can't cause trouble anymore while others are outraged that so many people died. Here are some words from various cops.
"Whoever did this was good. 99% of them were dead before they hit the ground, and you don't need a medical degree to know what happens when you're shot in the head or heart. We estimate three people; one or two on the roof and two in the streets." - Police sniper.
"This efficiency takes years of training and/or some very advanced aiming system. They also used AP (Armor Penetrating) rounds. Only AP bullets can penetrate steel that easily. I think some special forces from Atlas went rogue and took matters into their own hands." - Qrow B.
End article
With Ozpin and co
Beacon's Assistant Headmistress Glynda Goodwitch glared at the TV. She had already seen the news article, but the article didn't have pictures of the dead bodies in the blood-soaked streets. "I know they're terrorists, but that doesn't mean we should kill them. Whoever did this needs to be brought to justice."
Qrow Branwen laughed and took a large swig from his flask. "What makes you think they'll let you capture or kill them? Or better yet, what makes you think you can even touch them? Two to four people fought 55 angry Faunus and won. Spectacularly, I might add. So tell me, 'Witch, how do you think we should handle this?"
Glynda was about to argue but Ozpin stopped them. "That's enough, both of you! We're going to wait and see what happens. No matter how you look at it, we're stuck. Technically, they killed terrorists and rioters, and moving against them will turn the public against us. Right now, they haven't stepped on our toes. We won't step on theirs." He put his hand up to stop them from arguing. "However, I will look into this and try to avoid doing so." Ozpin did regret what happened to Yang. It was a really bad decision and one he won't make again. This time, he planned on using the pros to find and send students to talk to them as ambassadors.
Qrow took another swig from his flask. "While that's good to know, the White Fang is still a problem. This defeat came as a surprise, but I refuse to believe it was a devastating one."
"While I agree with you, one problem at a time."
This is the edited version. I hope it's better than the original. Please leave some constructive criticism. It really helps.
