After escaping from the castle, Ren Ryuji and Morgana went to the front entrance of Kamoshida's Palace. They are panting with exhaustion, due the battle they fought and their escape.

-Did we escape!? — Ryuji asked.

-Yes… For now… — Ren answered.

Ryuji pants for a few seconds before recomposing himself.

-Anyways… I don't remember changin' into this! — He said surprised.

-It looks good on you. Like a stylish pirate…

-Uhh… Should I be happy about that?

-Well yeah, it was a compliment.

-…Then again, it ain't as bad as yours.

-What? It's a stylish 19th century outfit. Is truly badass outfit and…

-Did you find them? — One of the guards asked.

-Quiet! — Morgana whispered. Both teenagers obeyed the cat's order.

-No. Search that way!

-So, what's goin' on? I'm completely lost, man! — Ryuji said, taking his mask from his face.

-I told you before. When a Persona-user opposes a Palace's ruler and becomes a threat to them, this happens; It's to prevent you from being affected by distortions. — Morgana explained again.

-So… Is this a skull? — He asked, looking at his face.

-Your appearance reflects your inner self. It's the rebel that slumbers within… Not that you'll get it.

-Nope… — Ryuji admitted, completely lost.

-Then stop asking questions and accept what you see for what it is.

-Easy for you to say. — Ryuji said, calmly.

-I'll explain to you later in a simple way, okay? — Ren said to Ryuji. — Well, about Kamoshida…

-Okay… Oh wait! Shit! We're in deep shit! — The blonde shouted.

-What's wrong? — Ren asked.

-I said to be quiet! — Morgana ordered again. Ryuji grabbed Morgana by his shoulders.

-Just listen! We might've gotten away here, but we're still screwed with Kamoshida at the real school…

-That's quite sharp of you! …For an idiot!

-Morgana! Just explain. — Ren scowled.

-Relax you two. The Kamoshida in reality can't possibly know about what happens here. A Shadow is the true self that is suppressed—a side of one's personality they don't want to see.

-In other words, we're okay. — Ren answered.

-We're truly okay? — Ryuji asked.

-Did Kamoshida in reality remember about the execution? — Morgana asked.

-No… — Ryuji said, after remembering the events of yesterday.

-There you have it.

-All right! — Ryuji said, excited. — Now that we know that, all we gotta do is—

-Wait. I guided you as I promised; Now it's your turn to cooperate with me.

-Whaddya mean? — Ryuji asked.

-He means he wants our help in exchange for his services. — Ren explained, after understanding what Morgana meant.

-You're right. That's why I was super nice about teaching you idiots everything.

"Idiots? Seriously?" Ren thought.

-Huh? Cooperate with what? — Ryuji asked.

-Don't you remember? I originally came here for an investigation. I need to erase the distortion from my body and regain my real form! — Morgana said, with a serious expression. — That's why we must delve deep into Mementos and—

-Whoa, hold up! — Ryuji said, interrupting Morgana. — What're you goin' on and on about? We never said anything about helpin' you out.

-What!?

-Actually, you offered yourself to help us. You never asked for our aid in the first place. — Ren said, staring at Morgana.

-Huh!? Don't tell me… Are you not going to repay the hospitality I showed to you two? Especially you! You're going to up and leave!? Even though you're already part of my master plan!?

-Wait, what? What do you mean by part of your plan? — Ren asked. — You offered yourself to help us. We never promised to help you.

-What— The nerve! — Morgana exclaimed in shock. — Is it because I'm not a human? Because I'm a cat? Is that why you're making a fool of me!?

-No. You never asked for our help. And you haven't even told us about including us in your plan. — Ren answered.

-And we're busy! — Ryuji explained, then crouched towards Morgana. — Thanks for everything, cat. You've got guts, bein' a cat and all!

-Yeah. Thank you for aiding us on the Palace. Now we need to go. See you later.

-See you around.

Ryuji stood up and ran with Ren out of the Palace, leaving Morgana dumbstruck.

-Hey! What the hell!? Ugh! Seriously!? Why're you wrapping this up like everything's all hunky-dory!? — He asked perplexed, he then tried to follow both. — Oh, hell no! Get back here! Grr… GRAAAGGGHHH!

Real World. Aoyama-Itchome District

Shujin Academy. Front Entrance.

After School.

-You have returned to the real world. Welcome back.

-Thank God. We're back.

-Yeah. It was a rough time, huh?

-Yeah… I dragged you around a lot, huh? …Sorry, man.

-Nah, no worries. I'm accustomed to being dragged a lot…

Ryuji sighed tired.

-Ugh, I'm dead tired… How you holdin' up?

-I could use a nap right now. Although I'm fine… I'm not as tired as I thought…

-Yeah, me too. But still impressive you can hold up even now… — Ryuji commented. — But damn, if what we saw was for real, this gonna get good!

-Yeah. That can put Kamoshida behind the bars. Do you remember their faces?

-Yes. I totally remember the faces of the guys Kamoshida was treatin' like slaves. Once we make 'em fess up to any physical abuse, Kamoshida will be done.

-I hope that it what happens. We need to hope they are going to talk.

-True. So, 'bout that… wanna help me look for those guys or any witnesses?

-Of course, I do. Count on me.

-Now that's what I'm talkin' about! — Ryuji said happy, but his expression changed. — Hey, so… If you're thikin'of layin' low 'cause you got a record, I don't think that'll help… Everyone already knows. They totally got you pegged as a criminal.

-True. Actually, I had an idea on who is the responsible. But the question is how'd that happen. Do you have any idea?

-No, but I'm sure Kamoshida opened his damn mouth!

-Yes. He's knew about me. The question is what he wins with this?

-I don't know what exactly, but no one else besides a teacher could've leaked it that fast! It doesn't matter if it's a student or a club; that asshole just wrecks things he's doesn't agree with. Just like he did with me!

-I know… But why does no one listen to you?

-Yeah, but no one'll take anything I say seriously. No one believes in me.

-I see… But I believe in you. And there's proof of his crimes.

-Yeah, but still, it's only if we can prove those rumors about his physical abuses are real…

-Yes… It might be difficult to take him down.

-Yeah. But after seein' Kamoshida's distorted-heart thing in person, there's no way I can just sit back!

-I know… I can't stand still, just watching too… — Ren said, with a serious expression. His fist twitching in anger. — Let's end this!

-I'm countin' on you! Don't worry— I'm hyped about this too!

"I feel a bond of trust coming from Ryuji… I feel I can trust him"

Unknown Place.

Unknown Time.

Ren stopped as Sae ordered. She stared at him with some curiosity, as much she doesn't expressed.

-Something's wrong? We're running out of time, you know? — Ren asked. He gasped in pain, and nodded his head, trying to stay awake.

-Acting as a phantom thief would've been more efficient alone. You could've gone about it that way…

-True. But I didn't… Right?

-That's true. I admit there are merits to having associates… That's what you decided. Am I wrong? — She asked seriously, inclining herself towards his direction.

Ren smiled.

-No…

April 12, Tuesday.

Shujin Academy.

After School.

Out of the blue, Ren felt the time stop and he saw a tarot card floating in his front. He heard a voice coming from his head.

I am thou, thou art I…

Thou hast acquired a new vow.

It shall become the wings of rebellion

That breaketh thy chains of captivity.

With the birth of the Chariot Persona,

I have obtained the winds of blessing that

Shall lead to freedom and new power…

Ren felt a new part of his power awaken, as he felt a bond between him and Ryuji born. He saw the card revealing the image of the Chariot, as the card disappeared.

"Is that a tarot card!? And I felt my power grows… How is that related to my power…?" That was his only thought. After that, everything went back to normal. They heard a grunt and Ryuji cheeks blushed in a pinkish tone.

-What was that? — Ren asked.

-Oh… Right. I haven't eaten anything since lunch.

"For someone who hasn't eaten anything since that time, you have endured a lot in that place. You are in fact a tough guy, maybe you're tougher than I." Ren thought with a smirk.

-I see… Do you want to eat something? I can go home if you want.

-No. It'd be weird if we splittin' off now. Not after what happened.

-True. So, what's your idea?

-Why don't we grab a bite somewhere? If you wanna?

-Okay, But I should warn you, I'm not hungry. I already ate since lunch.

-That's not a problem.

-Okay then, where are we going?

-Just follow me. I know a good place in Shibuya. — Ryuji said with a smile. — And I totally need to hear about your past!

-You're so curious about me? Okay, I gave up. I tell everything while we eat something.

Ryuji nodded and he grabbed his bag on the ground. After that they went to the closest station.

Shibuya District. Ramen Restaurant.

After School.

-And I went on probation after she pointed me as the one who physically assaulted both, under his orders.

-WHAT!? — Ryuji yelled surprised. — The hell, man! How much shittier can that asshole get!?

-Calm down, Ryuji. Besides, I'm still eating.

-Sorry. But just hearin' your story makes me angry!

-I know, but what can we do…? — Ren said grabbing a small bit of his Ramen.

-Yeah… So… You left your hometown, and… You're livin' here now, huh? — Ryuji asked while eating a large portion of his ramen.

-Manners. — Ren scolded.

-Sorry…

-No worries. — Ren answered. — Yes. Now I live in the Yongen District. Though my guardian doesn't like me very much. — Ren ate another small portion of his ramen.

-Huh… We might be more alike than I originally thought.

-You probably right. We are somehow ignored by then due what we made before.

Ryuji smiled.

-You're the first guy that made me think that, y'know? I think it's how we're treated like a pain in the ass by the people around us, like we don't belong there. And I did something stupid before too. Though it was in school.

-I see… Well, it doesn't matter now…

-True…

Ren saw Ryuji finishing to ate his ramen and he saw his own plate.

"I barely ate my food… I knew it I shouldn't have ordered."

-The place you're livin' now is in… Yongen, right?

-Right. — Ren answered, being snap out of his own thought. — Why are you asking?

-Because it's rush hour on the subways. I suggest you kill some time before headin' home.

-I know… — Ren said, checking the trains schedule on his phone. — Ugh… I have to wait a few more minutes to take at least a vacant train…

-Yeah. It's been like that these days 'cause of those accidents… — Ryuji commented. — Hey, what the hell, man? You barely touched your food.

-I told you, I'm not hungry. And what are you doing? You're putting more ginger on my food.

-Just lemme do it. I gotta thank you for helpin' me.

-Uh, thanks…?

-You're welcome. Anyways, I got your back like you got mine from tomorrow on, okay? As long as we do something about Kamoshida, I'm sure we'll both feel better about bein' at school.

-Okay. I'm counting on you as well.

-Okay. Oh yeah! Tell me your number! Chat ID too.

-Oh. My number is…

They trade numbers and Chat ID. After registering each other numbers, Ryuji clenched his fist tightly.

-Just you wait, Kamoshida. We're gonna take you down. — Ryuji turned his face towards Ren. — We're gonna start right away tomorrow. First, let's hit up those guys that were kept as slaves.

-But there's a volleyball rally tomorrow… — Ren noted.

-The volleyball rally's tomorrow, huh? Shit recommended by Kamoshida. Makes me wanna gag. But thanks to that, we got no classes in the afternoon, and we can talk and walk around unnoticed.

-At least that. But we need to be careful. We need to work out how we are going to approach these guys.

-Well, I guess we can work out the details tomorrow…

-Yeah. Better you have a good plan for that…

Ryuji stared at Ren's plate once again.

-C'mon, you gotta eat more. There're tons of ginger here.

-Because you put these tons and…

Ryuji smiled as he picked up the box of ginger.

-Don't you dare…!

Ryuji for Ren despair, put more ginger on his ramen, making him sweat in nervousness. After eating the whole ramen and paid off, they went towards the station.

-So, about this plan to take down Kamoshida…

-Ryuji, you're being too loud. Anyone can hear you.

-Ah- Right… Sorry. Anyway…

Ryuji and Ren keep going their way and Ren saw a young woman and a boy around his age. Glancing briefly to her, he noticed he have saw her before, but he couldn't remember at that moment. Ignoring that, he went back his way back home.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Courtyard.

After School.

Takamaki was talking with a girl with an animated tone, both were having fun with their talk. Then, out of the blue, the black-haired girl bowed down her head, making the blonde girl worried.

-…I-I haven't been sleeping well lately… Whenever I close my eyes, I keep thinking about too many things…

-Shiho… — Takamaki said, without any idea what to say to her.

-Nationals are coming up soon, so I keep thinking… Should someone like me really be on the starting lineup? — Shiho asked in doubt.

-Don't worry. Just be confident in yourself! Your skills have been recognized! It's all because you work harder than anyone else!

Shiho was silent after hearing the blonde words.

-Yeah… Volleyball's all I have, after all. — She said depressed.

-More importantly, is the injury okay? It looked really swollen. — Takamaki asked.

-No, it's nothing. It's normal… Especially since a meet's coming up… — Shiho answered. An injured student came towards Takamaki and Shiho, interrupting their conversation.

-Sorry to interrupt Suzui. Uh… Mr. Kamoshida told me to get you.

-Huh? What does he want? — Suzui asked in shock.

-He didn't say… — The student answered. Shiho was silent.

-Ann, I…

Ann went silent as well, then her mood went slightly cheerful.

-It'll be fine! I bet it's a meeting about the starting lineup or something.

-…Yeah. — Shiho said smiling to Ann as she stood up. Her expression fell once again. — Well, I better go…

-Yup. Good luck! — Ann said cheerfully, trying to lift up Shiho's mood. The black-haired girl only nodded and she went away, being followed by the injured student. Ann stared Shiho went away.

-Hang in there, Shiho…

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

-Good evening.

-…You're home.

Ren arrived at Leblanc feeling his body ache in exhaustion.

"It could be an effect of the Metaverse…" He thought.

-I take it you actually went to school today?

-Yes, I did go to school.

-I guess you learned your lesson after what happened yesterday.

-Yeah. Sorry about yesterday.

-Eh, as long as you're not getting into trouble, it's fine by me.

-Okay. I'm gonna take some time studying in school tomorrow, so I probably going to be home late.

-Fine… I don't know what you're been up to, but trust me, you'll gone if you start causing problems. In case you forgot, your life is not a free one right now.

-Understood. I will try to avoid to get into any problems.

Ren heard his phone ring and he saw he received a message from Ryuji.

Hey, I decided to go ahead and message you. Can you see this?

Yep. I received your message.

I'm gonna be counting on you tomorrow, ok?

Okay. You can count with me.

You're a bro, man… Welp, seeya tomorrow! Let's save those guys who've been getting abused. You and me.

Okay. See ya.

Ryuji ended the conversationand Ren checked his phone.

-…Sheesh, are you even listening to me?

-Yes, I've heard you. I was talking with a friend I made today.

-You'll better stay away from bad influences, okay?

-Okay… I'll heading to my room now. I'm tired.

-Fine. I'm gonna head home now and I'm locking the store up. Don't go wandering off.

-Okay. Good night.

-Good night.

Ren went upstairs and he put his bag on the table next to the stairs. He was taking his pajamas, when he found a small package inside his luggage.

-There's a note here. Let's see… "Dear Ren. We're sending a few things to aid you in your time in Tokyo. We hope everything's going to be okay. Be careful. With love, Mom and Dad."

Ren open the package and found a few items he could use and fifth thousand yen.

-Thanks Mom. Thanks Dad. That going to be useful.

After that he put on his pajamas and he was going to sleep when he received another message from Ryuji.

That thingy on your phone was some red eyeball icon, right?

Right. It appeared on your phone too? — Ren asked.

I found it on my phone too… We ended up at the weird place when we used this nav app, right?

Right.

But I don't even remember installing it!

That's creepy for sure.

For real. What is this thing?

It's a nav app. At least seems to be a nav app.

Yeah. But how'd it appeared on my phone? Think it's being downloaded on it's own somehow? It's dangerous to use something without knowing what it is…

But it's the only thing that lead us to his Palace. Remember that…

True. Basically, it's gonna depend on how we use it. But first we gotta find evidence for the beatings.

With that we can take Kamoshida down. I hope we can do it.

I'm counting on you, all right? Don't go ditching school on me.

Okay. See ya.

Ren put his phone in his pocket and he laid down on his bed. A few minutes later he fell asleep.

Velvet Room.

Without the influence of time/Just a Dream

Ren woke up and he saw that he was in the Velvet Room once again. Lifting up, he walked to the door, when the Twins and Igor were waiting for him.

"I'm here, once again… What does he want this time?"

-Welcome to the Velvet Room. I thought about resuming our previous conversation tonight. That is why I have summoned you.

-I see. Well, I appreciate your consideration. — Ren answered Igor.

-Very well. — Igor looked at the Velvet Room once again. — What are your thoughts? Are you becoming accustomed to this place?

-Yes. It's not bad as I thought… "Besides the confusing layout of this place… A courtroom and a prison. What does it mean…?" Ren thought.

-Ah, I'm glad to hear it. It seems you have nerves of steel.

-I try… — Ren answered. — So, can you remind me of the goal of my rehabilitation, please?

-Of course. The goal of your rehabilitation is to thwart the fated ruin. However, such a feat cannot be done by you alone.

-True. I'm know it's impossible to do such feat just by myself. "The question is what you gain with that. What do you really want with me?"

-Today, you started a partnership with someone who awakened the same power as you, did you not?

-A partnership? Why is make a partnership is so important in my rehabilitation? "He meant my bond with Ryuji… Keep the fool act, Ren."

-Involving yourself with others is an important foundation for your recovery. You've done well.

-Thank you. "I guess?"

-That said, I am not advising the formation of superficial relationships.

-What do you mean?

-It must not be of frivolity, but a ring of those who would, by morals or faith, lending you their strength.

-You mean bonds, correct?

-Yes. In other words, they are bonds with those who have been robbed of their places to belong. The expansion of said ring will, in return, help you to mature as well.

"So, I need to create bonds with people who can aid me, people in a situation similar to mine… In return, that bonds make my power grows up. My power grows as I make relationships and I deepen then. Interesting…"

-And how is that related to my power?

-Personas are the strength of heart… The stronger the bonds that surround you, the more power your Personas will gain. — Justine explained.

-There are countless people in the city who have talents that a weakling like you doesn't. You better rack that noggin of yours and get them on your side. We'll change that into power. — Said Caroline.

-Indeed. You should be prepared to use even myself, or your ambitions will not come to fruition.

-I see… I accept to use your services. "So, my hunch was right. Hm… That means my theory is correct! That's good to know. My special power is related to the tarot card I saw. The Arcana's… the question now is, which Arcana is mine…"

Igor chuckled.

-We have a deal then.

"I feel that Igor has a high expectation of me… The question is why?"

Ren felt time stop and he saw a tarot card floating in his front. He heard a voice coming from his head.

I am thou, thou art I…

Thou hast acquired a new vow.

It shall become the wings of rebellion

That breaketh thy chains of captivity.

With the birth of the Fool Persona,

I have obtained the winds of blessing that

Shall lead to freedom and new power…

Ren felt a new part of his power awaken, as he felt a bond between him and Igor born. He saw the card revealing the image of the fool Arcana, as the card disappeared.

"I feel a part of my power grows once again. My power… As far I can remember, I heard once about person's born with an arcana. And as far I remember from that explanation, there's only one Arcana is that powerful. It's the Fool Aracana, the only arcana when the card can be anything, due the infinity potential that card possesses. A blank screen, who can be anything it wants… But how that's related with my power?"

-My power… grew… — Ren said, surprised.

-Indeed. — Igor said, satisfied. — Well, you will understand it all in due time… Continue devoting yourself to your rehabilitation.

-Yes, I will.

The cell alarm ring, indicating their time was over.

-Now, the conversation's over! Get lost, Inmate!

Ren went back to his bed and he fell asleep.

April 13, Wednesday.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy street.

Early Morning.

-How annoying… We've barely started high school, and already they're making us play at a volleyball rally? And why are they pitting us against the teacher team? Kamoshida's gonna crush us.

-We get to see his technique live and in person, though. We should totally get spiked on!

-Yeah, okay. You're gonna get your face smashed in. Just look at how banged up the volleyball team is. What the hell goes on during their practices?

"The way they're talking, it's almost like… They knew they were going to being humiliated. And they know about the team's condition too. But still… They are still ignoring it… What the hell is happening in the Shujin Academy!?" That was Ren thought.

Shujin Academy. Class 2-D

Morning.

-Okay, listen up everyone. — Kawakami ordered, calling their attention. — As you all know, today is the volleyball rally. Head to the gymnasium once you've changed. Got it?

Everyone went to the respective bathrooms to change their outfit. After they finished, they went towards the gymnasium.

Shujin Academy. Gymnasium

Afternoon.

The volleyball rally was happening at the gymnasium. A match between the Teacher's Team and the Student's Team was happening as planned. Kamoshida with a powerful blow, spiked at the injured student, who tried to block his move, but his attempt failed, making him fall on the ground and get hit by the ball in the process. Kamoshida's team celebrated the point taken, as the public in uproar, celebrated.

-Nice toss!

-Man, you're still got it, Coach!

-Thanks! Let's go for one more! — Kamoshida said happy.

Ren and Ryuji were watching the game close to the exit door. Both were bothered and bored watching the match. Ren looked carefully at the other's students, noticing the public rooting for Kamoshida's Team, especially the girls, with the exception of Ann. Ren noticed she was, like him, bothered with all of that too. That make him wonder about her connection with Kamoshida.

"She doesn't even bother to show her annoyance… I need to figure out what her connection with Kamoshida is and how it is relevant soon as I can. Maybe with that I can use that to denunciate his actions."

Ren looked at the match and sighed bored.

-Stills sticks out… Hasn't changed a bit.

-True… — Ren yawned, too tired to watch the match. Ryuji yawned as well.

-Pretty boring, huh?

-Don't need to say it. — Ren yawned again and Ryuji snickered. Ren smiled when he yawned again.

"Even he can't endure it." Ren looked to Ann again as she was still toying with her left pigtail. "She's not even paying attention…" Ren looked back at Ryuji. "They know each other… The question is how close are they?"

The public went into an uproar once again, calling the attention of Ren and Ryuji. With a good lift, Kamoshida jumped and with all his strength he spiked the ball, crossing the adversary team barrier. He smiled with the effectiveness of his move. The ball, however, instead of hit the floor, ended up hitting the injured student on his face, knocking him down for the horror of the audience. Kamoshida waited for him get up, but he boy passed out.

-Sorry. — Kamoshida said, rushing towards the injured student. After checking his condition, he turned to the audience. — Someone! Take him to the nurse's office! Aiding the students, Kamoshida took the injured student and put him into the student's arms who come to help the injured student. Ryuji grunted in anger.

-He'll pay soon enough… — He said while he threw the volleyball away.

Kamoshida saw the injured student being taken away and he turned his face to the teams.

-All right, let's resume the match! — He said happily.

Ren noticed Kamoshida worried actions were only an act from his part, as he pretended to show he cared for his students. Snapping to Ann, he noticed she was staring at Kamoshida seriously.

"She knows…" That was his only thought.

Shujin Academy. Courtyard

Afternoon.

-That asshole's actin' like a king over here too… That talk of gettin' to know each other better, my ass. It's just a one-man show for him to stroke his ego.

-As much I understand your indignation, you should calm down. Being angry only going to make the situation worse…

-Yeah, but did you see how he acted like he was worried about Mishima? What an abusive d-bag!

-True, but that's not going to change the fact that we still need to prove his guilt. "But I have to admit, he got a powerful spike. For sure he's intimidating enough to silence anyone… That's not going to be an easy task."

-…Yeah… Well, anyways. Now's our chance to go look for the guys we saw were slaves yesterday.

-Okay. Where do we start? As far as I recall, they are members of the volleyball team, but clearly, they are from different grades. Although I admit I can't remember their faces well…

-Yes, they're from different grades. Lucky for us I still remember their faces clearly, so we can find them. All the members I saw at the castle should be here today. I swear, I'll be sure to find someone to spill about Kamoshida's physical abuse. Just you wait, you asshole!

"The problem is who is going to talk about it.… Dammit, why do I get the feeling we are not going to get anything…?"

-Okay, where are you start looking?

-…The first one is from the same year as us that popped out is from the same year as us. He's from Class D, so let's start there.

-That one's from my class. I doubt he wants to talk to me.

-Yeah, we're in the same boat, huh…?

-At least we have to try. Stay behind me, and don't say anything. Got it?

-Got it.

Ren and Ryuji went to the Classroom building, looking for one of the slaves they saw in Kamoshida's Palace. Going to the second floor, both walked towards the classroom 2-D, when they found the student that was one of the slaves, as he was looking at the information boards, Ren approached him. His face was bandaged, covering most of his injuries. Ryuji and Ren recognized him.

-Excuse me.

-What? Hey, I know you. You're the transfer. Are you skipping out on the volleyball rally? Hmph, I guess I expect it from you, transfer.

Ren ignored his sharp, but scared tone. Ryuji leans close to Ren's ear and whispers.

-Hey, that's him, one of the guys who was over at the castle.

-I know.

-You too, Sakamoto!? — The injured student took a step away. — What do you guys want?

- You look awfully hurt… How did you get injured like that? — Ren asked.

-It's from practice! What does that have to do with anything? — The volleyball player said desperate, clearly in fear.

-That doesn't look like it's from practice. Are you sure it was from the practice? — Ren asked again.

-Yes, I am sure of it!

-Kamoshida did it to you, right? — The face of the scared volleyball player became pale after hearing Ryuji's words.

-I-I-I d-don't know what you're talking about.

-Look, we ain't gonna tell anyone you squealed. Just tell us about how Kamoshida's abusin' you.

-L-Like I s-s-said, I-I d-don't know what you're talking about!

-Please, calm down. It's okay to be afraid. We're here to help you. — Ren assured, trying to calm down the volleyball player.

-I'm not afraid! You guys are talking complete nonsense! Now leave me alone.

-Don't try n 'hide it! We already know!

-You… You two know? T-then, you can prove it?

-Well, uh… I… don't but…

-That ridiculous! You are annoying me. Please, leave me alone. You two are really bothering me!

-But… — Ryuji sighed in defeat. — …All right, that's enough. C'mon, let's go.

Ryuji walked away, exiting the classroom.

-Sorry for bothering you. — Ren said before walked out the classroom. They went towards the end of the corridor, no one was there.

-That injury ain't normal! And he still won't fess up… — Ryuji said, completely irritated.

-We knew it wasn't going to be easy. They are afraid Ryuji. Convince them to went to our side probably it won't work.

-But we at least we need to try… — Ryuji checked the time on his phone. — Crap! If we keep goin' at this pace, the game's gonna end… What we do?

-We better split out. It'd be faster if we did that.

-Great idea! I'll check the Practice Building for people before clubs start. You handle this area, okay?

-Okay. Where's the next one?

-There's a third-year on the volleyball team that I remember. I think he's in… 3-C?

-You're not sure?

-Not much, but I'm sure he might have some injures too, since he was gettin' beat pretty badly at the castle…

-You're probably right. I'll check.

-M'kay. Anyways, I'll hit you up if I find anything. Seeya!

-Okay. See you later.

Ren went down to the first floor, when part of the third-years and some students of the other years are talking with each other. He noticed Ann was talking with a black-haired girl with her hair up in a ponytail. He noticed their conversation was an animated one, since both was giggling and happy.

"Better focus on the plan. I don't have time to eavesdrop their conversation."

Walking around, he saw another injured player, with bandages on his face, arm and leg, with brushes on his body, similar the first one he met with Ryuji. He was talking with a friend, not noticing Ren's presence. Ren approached carefully, trying to not scare both.

-Man, clearing up after the volleyball rally is gonna be such a goddamn pain… — Said the volleyball player, completely depressed.

-Excuse me. Can I talk with you? — Ren said, interrupting their talk, calling the attention of the volleyball player.

-Whaddya want?

Ren stared at shim for a moment, making a mental note of the volleyball player's injures.

-You got something to say? — He asked Ren, who only nodded his head in affirmative.

-Sorry, but I couldn't help but notice you have too many brushes on your body. How did you get injured like that?

-It was from practice. We have tough practices to keep ourselves sharp. Do you got a problem with that?

-For your bruishes, I doubt they're simply from practice. Are you sure it wasn't something else that left you in that state?

-What do you want? — The volleyball player asked annoyed.

-Hey, I know who this guy is. He's that transfer student who's been hanging out with Sakamoto.

"Dammit! That one has made my situation even more difficult' …"

-Oh, I get it now… You're trying to snoop on Mr. Kamoshida, right? If that's the case I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's not what are you're thinking. Look, our volleyball team performs at a national level. Of course, our practices are gonna be tough.

-Tough enough to leave you that injured?

-Do you have any problem with that? The truth is Mr. Kamoshida's just dedicated to train us. Don't believe everything Sakamoto says.

-I believe you're hiding something. Are you sure you're not being physically abused?

-N-No, it just practice! Are you deaf or something?

-Hey, don't talk to him like that! What if he loses it and starts attacking us? — The friend of the volleyball player said afraid. He brought his face close to his friend's ear, whispering. — I heard he even caries a knife around. Who knows what he's capable of? He could even kill us… We should stop to talk with him.

-Hey, can you leave us alone? I-I don't want to talk with you anymore.

Ren heard his phone ringtone; he knew it was Ryuji wanting to talk with him. Ren just nodded to both and before he left, he spoke to them.

-Before I go, some piece of advice. Don't say things about people you've never met. Otherwise, that's going to lead you two to huge problems.

Ren walked away, planning to walk back to the second floor. When he reached the stairs, he heard Ann and Shiho were talking about him.

-Everyone's saying a lot of bad stuff about the transfer student in your class, Ann…

Ann's face twisted in anger.

-I know… I hate rumors already, but they're only getting more and more complex as time goes on.

Shiho looked to the ground, visibly sad.

-I wonder if he's all right… I just hope he's not letting it get to him too much.

-That's just like you, Shiho. Always worrying about other people before yourself. — Ann said a little down, then she smiled. — Kinda like when you were there for me…

Ren smiled after hearing that. He was happy for Ann and for Shiho, and saw how they support each other, as well for Shiho consideration for him, even after she heard about his "reputation".

"I'm okay, Shiho. Don't worry about me… That's nothing compared with what I've dealt before…" He quickly glanced to the girls, before he walked to another area of the first floor. "I need to talk with Ryuji about how we going to take Kamoshida down. That went too far! We need to stop him and I need to figure out how these rumors appeared…"

Going to a deserted area of the first floor, Ren leaned against the wall. He checked his phone, seeing the message from Ryuji.

How's it going? Did you get lucky?

He refused. He's tougher than I thought. — Was Ren's only answer.

Him too…? Man, it is as you said, everyone's too freaked out about Kamoshida. But I still got a lead. A first-year, new member. He just joined, so he might not be all wrapped up in Kamoshida's web of bullshit yet. Try to talk with the first-years! See if you can find him.

Okay. I'll give a try.

Walking towards the stairs, he went to the third floor, where the first-year classes were located. He didn't need to look hard for the first-year volleyball player. He was in front of a classroom, staring at the bulletin board. Approaching him, Ren touched his shoulder, calling his attention.

-Excuse me, but are you from the volleyball team? "He's alone. Maybe I can get a clue or two…"

-Huh? Y-yeah… I'm on the volleyball team. Whaddya want?

-I noticed a few members of the volleyball team are badly injured. You look exactly like them. How you get wound?

-O-Oh, these…? I-It, uh… It happened during practice. As you noticed, everyone on the team's got injuries like that.

"Dammit. The whole team!? And everyone is ignoring that?"

-I see. The entire team has injuries like that?

-Yes. Especially Mishima-senpai. He has it especially bad though… He gets to deal with Kamoshida special coaching…

-Special coaching? What do you mean with that?

-O-Oh, uh… Never mind! Forget I said anything! — Said the volleyball player, truly desperate.

-Please calm down. Now then, please tell me more about this "special coaching".

-P-Please… just stop talking to me… I can't tell anymore… If you wanna know anything more, ask someone else… I can't say anything more.

-Thank you. You have helped me enough. — Ren bowed down his head. — As for this conversation, it was like you said, you never said anything.

-T-Thank you.

Ren walked away and the school speakers played music, starting an announcement.

-Attention, attention. All matches have concluded. Please get ready to go home for today…

Ren heard his phone ring, and he saw a new message from Ryuji.

Dammit, we're outta time. How'd it go?

Take a wild guess. — Ren answered.

So, you didn't have any luck either… Dammit. M'kay, let's regroup for now. See you in the courtyard?

Yes. That's a discreet place we can talk without being bothered. I'll see you there.

Shujin Academy. Courtyard

Afterschool.

Ren was waiting for Ryuji next to the vending machines in the courtyard, looking at the selection of drinks he could buy. He was organizing all the information in his mind, making notes on his phone.

"Better check all of that when I can. I need to find something at least useful here."

-Can I talk to you for a sec?

Snapped out of his thoughts, Ren turns to the owner's voice. It was Ann who was talking to him. She approached him, staring at him with a serious face.

-Okay, Ms.…?

-Takamaki.

-Takamaki. You can talk.

-Don't worry. It'll be quick.

-Okay. Go on. What do you want to talk with me?

She crossed her arms and looked at him.

-Anyway, what's with you? Like, how you were late the other day was a lie and all.

Ren gave her a snicker.

-I'm new to this city. Of course, at some point I got myself lost. Is that too impossible to belief?

-Yes. Not only that, there's that weird rumor about you too.

-I didn't know you actually believed in rumors.

-I'm serious! You—

-Whaddya want with him? — Ryuji said, interrupting Ann, walking towards her. Ren noticed that they weren't happy to see each other though.

-Right back at you. You're not even in our class. — She rebutted, irritated with his interference.

-…We just happened to get to know each other.

-He helped me to arrive 's all. — Ren said, staying between Ann and Ryuji. — Do you have any other questions, Takamaki-san?

-Yes. What're you two planning on doing to Mr. Kamoshida? — She asked, looking quite serious.

-Huh!?

Ryuji and Ren were surprised by the blonde girl's question, especially Ren who was trying to figure out why she asked that.

"Maybe she's on Kamoshida's side after all? But if that's the case, why does she look so uncomfortable and upset with that? She's hiding something."

After a brief minute, Ryuji's expression changed, showing his anger.

-…I see. I getcha.

-Ryuji… — Ren tried to keep Ryuji calm, knowing he's already made his mind.

-What're you talking about? — Ann asked annoyed.

-You're buddy-buddy with Kamoshida after all.

-What…? This has nothing to do with you, Sakamoto!

-You two, calm down! — Ren said serious. — You two are too hot-headed now.

-Stay away. That's nothing with you. — Ann said to Ren in an irritated tone.

-That applies to you, y'know? If you knew… If you found out what he's been doin' behind your back, you'd dump him right away. — Said Ryuji.

-Behind by back…? — Ann said surprised. — What's that supposed to mean?

"Wait!"

-Ryuji, calm down. You're jumping too quickly on conclusions! — Ren said, holding his shoulder with some strength. Ryuji looked at Ren and sighed.

-You wouldn't get it. — The blonde punk said to Ann.

-You two better watch out. People are already talking about you two. — She warned. — I don't know what you two are up to, but no one's gonna help you. You especially Sakamoto.

-What you—

-Ryuji. — Ren interrupted him, signing that won't lead to anywhere. Ryuji just sighed and went silent. — Thank you for your concern, but we can deal with that. That's all?

-That's all. I'm just warning you two, just in case.

Ann walked away and Ren and Ryuji looked at her. Ryuji grunted in anger.

-Why's she gotta be so aggressive all the time?

-So, you know each other. — Ren said, looking at Ryuji. — Care to tell me how you two met?

-So you've figure out, huh? — Ryuji turns to Ren. — We just went to the same middle school.

-Well, I don't know what happened between you two, but now's not the time for that.

-You're right. Anyways, that's not what we're here to talk about, right?

-Right.

-I had no luck on my end. What about you? Any luck? — Ryuji asked. — Did anything like someone's name turn up?

-Well, I got a lead. Mishima. That ring any bells?

-Huh…? Mishima? From your class?

-Yes. The first time I saw him I noticed he was badly injured. Actually, his state is even worse than the others team members we saw. I heard he's receiving a "special coaching" from Kamoshida.

-…Special "coaching", huh? — Ryuji went silent for a moment, processing all the information. — Now you talked about that, I always see the guy covered in bruises too. Well, let's go talk to him before he leaves then.

-Let's.

Shujin Academy. Main Hall.

Afterschool.

-Mishima! — Ryuji shouted, following Mishima, who stopped after being called. Ren arrived a couple of seconds later. — Hey, you got a second?

-Sakamoto!? — Mishima said surprised, taking a few steps back, he then saw Ren. — And you, too…!?

-Calm down. We come in peace. — Ren said, calmly.

-C'mon, we just wanna chat. — Ryuji said calmly as well, but keeping a serious attitude. — Kamoshida's been "coaching" you, huh?

-Y-Yeah…

-You sure it's not just physical abuse?

-Certainly not! — Mishima rebutted as quickly as he could.

-What're you talkin' all polite for? Anyways…

-Are you okay? You don't seem too well… — Ren asked worried. Mishima was in a worse state than before.

-Y-Yeah, I am… Why do you ask…?

-We saw him spike you today. Right in the face. — Ryuji said, concerned as well.

-That was just I'm not good at the sport…

-That had nothing to do with being bad at volleyball or not. — Ren said, analyzing his injuries. — I watched the whole match until you went to the nurse office. He was clearly targeting you. Every single blow and spike from him have you as a target. And don't say it's because you're not good. I know when someone is lying.

-Besides, that doesn't explain all the other bruises you've got. — Ryuji said, pointing at one of the bruises.

-They're from practice…! — Mishima said, angrily.

-The same practice that leaves these injuries on the whole team? — Ren asked, looking grim and serious. With his experience, he could clearly see the patten there.

-Is he forcin' you to stay quiet? — Ryuji asked.

-That's…

-What's going on here?

Kamoshida came to their direction, as he stared at Mishima with a sympathetic smile.

-Mishima, isn't it time for practice? — He asked, glancing at the injured student.

-I-I'm not feeling well today… — Mishima said, staring the ground.

-What…? — Kamoshida asked, clearly feeling disappointment towards Mishima. He nodded his head in negative. — If that's the case, maybe you're better off quitting then.

That called their attention, especially from Mishima, who looked at him in shock.

-You know, you're never going to improve your crappy form unless you show up to practice.

-Didn't you hear? He ain't feelin' well! — Ryuji said, approaching to Kamoshida. Ren grabbed his shoulder, trying to keep him calm. Kamoshida ignored the blonde and stared Mishima once again.

-Well, Mishima? Are you coming to practice or not?

Mishima looked down, and he looked back to the coach.

-…I'll go.

-Okay. — Kamoshida went towards Ryuji, using his height to intimidate the teenager, who only stood, holding himself. Ren tried to stay calm, as he was being intimated by the coach. — As for you, any more trouble and you'll be gone from this school for sure. — He threatened, as he looked Ryuji with a disgusted look.

-Bastard… — Ryuji whispered as he looked away.

-Same goes for you, transfer student! — Kamoshida said, furious. Ren stared at him, keeping himself calm, avoiding to answer him at the same level. — Didn't the principal tell you to keep in line?

-We are leaving now… You don't need to remind me about his warning. — Ren answered calm. — By the way… I need to say you have an amazing spike. Unfortunately, we saw that result in an accident when you made your move. We were just asking Mishima-san if he was feeling okay? Isn't that right? — Ren glanced at Mishima.

-Is that true?

-Y-Yes. It was just that… Sakamoto-san came to ask me that…

-Yeah… He's got a blow in his face… — Ryuji said, seeing Ren was holding himself as well.

-You don't need to worry with us. Now if I was you, I think you should be more concerned about him. — Ren pointed to Mishima. — Otherwise, people can think another thing.

Kamoshida nodded his head in the negative.

-I don't need you to tell me what I should do. Just don't get in my way you two, or you two going to regret it. After all, all these unsettling rumors are making the students anxious.

-That's your goddamn fault.

Kamoshida sighed and just smiled.

-This won't get us anywhere Sakamoto. Let's go Mishima. — Kamoshida turned away and took a few steps, before stare at the ground. — Shujin Academy is a place where those with aspirations come to learn. Unworthy students like yourselves don't have any right to be here. — He turned his head, staring at Ren, Ryuji and Mishima with a deadly glance. — So, get with the program!

-Yes, sir. — Mishima said, staring at the ground.

"So, those are your true colors Kamoshida…" Ren thought while Kamoshida was walking away.

-That asshole…! He's gonna pay for this! — Ryuji swear, staring at Kamoshida.

-…There's no point.

-What?

-Huh?

-Proving that he's physically abusing us… it's meaningless.

-What do you mean? — Ren asked Mishima.

-Everybody knows… The principal, our parents… They all know, and they all keep quiet about it.

-This has gotta be a joke…! — Ryuji said incredulously.

-You mean… They know, and no one does anything? — Ren asked serious. "Dammit! It's worse than I thought!"

-Don't be a pain! You don't understand what I'm going through, Sakamoto. Shouldn't you of all people know there's nothing you can do to help!?

Ryuji grunted, feeling impotent. Mishima stared Ren.

-As for you… Just accept it. It's better on that way.

Mishima ran away. Ryuji kicked the air, as he messed his hair even more.

-Dammit!

"There's nothing I can do? Maybe… No. That's out of question."

-Ryuji, I know that's not a good time, but… What now? We ran out of options.

-I know, I know! — Ryuji thought for a brief moment. — … I'll try one more time to persuade the other guys. That's… all I can do.

-I see… I can only wish you luck with that… — Ren sighed. — I'll go home now. I'm beat.

-Mkay… Thanks once again.

-You're welcome.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

Ren arrived at Leblanc and waited for Sojiro to went back home. Once he heard the door close, he went upstairs and in anger he threw his bag away. He sighed tired.

"I'm tired… This investigation drained my energy…" He looked at his luggage and Ren heard the message notification.

Hey, this doesn't make any damn sense. The principal and even the parents know about the abuse. So, why ain't anybody speaking up!? Clearly, it's not only they're afraid of Kamoshida, if it was that they at least talk 'bout that to anyone…

When Ren read that, a memory of Principal Kobayakawa popped in his mind. He clearly remembered his conversation with Kamoshida.

It's because of volleyball team. —Ren answered.

What?

Think carefully about that. You said Kamoshida is a medalist, right?

Right. He's an Olympic Medalist. Wait… You're sayin'…

Yes. Kamoshida not only threatens them to stay quiet, he's also possesses a big reputation. And for the principal, the prestige of Shujin Academy is more important than the well-being of the students. For him it is convenient to keep the things as he can be. It's a win-win situation for both.

So, the principal just accepts that because of the prestige bullshit?

Yes. That's the only logical explanation.

Dammit! Wait… And what about the teachers? Do you think they know? — Ryuji thought for a moment.

Maybe not. Kawakami was truly surprised about the rumors about me. I think it is way easier for them to convince it was nothing to worry about. Is that, or they're being threatened by the principal too.

So…

It's useless ask for their help as well.

Dammit! It's all because Kamoshida made the volleyball team famous…! Even so, that don't give him the right to do whatever he wants! And it's worse than I thought! He's beating kids up, and all they're allowed to do is endure.

Yeah.

And that follower of his doesn't give one single shit…

What follower? — Ren asked, slightly confused.

Ann Takamaki. You met her in the courtyard, remember?

Yes, I remember. "I think he forgot I had met her that day."

I think you should know her really well. I mean, she's in your class, dude.

Sorry, people are kinda avoiding me. Even my classmates.

Oh, yeah… Ugh! What a lot of bull! You know what? I can't let it end like this.

Me neither. That's had gone too far.

You're right. I'm gonna try and find someone who knows about what's going on with Kamoshida during the break tomorrow. Just you watch. I ain't giving up!

I know, and if you need me, I'm here to help.

Thanks man. If I need anything, I'll send you a message.

Okay. I'm going to try to figure out a way to aid you.

Okay. See you tomorrow.

See you.

Ren put on his pajamas, and he checked the time on his phone. He sat on his bed and he saw his agenda. He saw in the middle of his contact two numbers saved on the favorites. He thought of calling their number, but he stopped. He stared at the screen one last time before exiting the phone agenda and putting his phone in his pocket.

"I can't. I promised to stay away from this. I can't go back on my word."

With those thoughts, he fell asleep.

April 14, Thursday.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy. Class 2-D.

Afternoon.

Ren was in the classroom, watching Kawakami's class. He was immersed in his thoughts, trying to figure out a way to help Ryuji with taking Kamoshida down. Hours ago, when he was in his way towards the school, he heard another rumor, that time was about the PE faculty office, of how the students should avoid to go there. He clicked his tongue and stared at the black board, trying to understand the subject Kawakami was teaching in her class. Ren felt his phone vibrate inside his pocket and discretely he took it out, checking if he received anything. There was only a message notification.

So about the witnesses… I was wondering if we could get something outta Takamaki. If we can. — Was Ryuji's message.

Ren gave a quick glance to Ann, before sending his answer.

I don't know if she is going to help us. But I think I know why you're suggesting that, since apparently, she's close to Kamoshida, right?

Well, no. That ain't why. But you're close. You know how we didn't get a thing outta the volleyball team? — Ryuji asked.

Yes, I remember. — Ren answered. — So, did you figure another way out to get a confession from them?

Yes. I figured it'd be a good idea to talk to someone who knows them. And Takamaki has a friend in the team. Her BFFs actually. Her name's Suzui.

Ren remembered Ann talking to Shiho yesterday.

Did you talk to her yesterday?

I tried to talk to that girl during the break, but I got nothing. That's why we should have Takamaki talk to her. If Takamaki accepts helping us.

Now I see. Well, like I said, I doubt she's going to help us. — Ren answered, while he notes down on his notebook Kawakami explanation.

True. I doubt that as well. — Ryuji answered. — Sorry for bothering you.

Don't worry. You came up with a possibility. We need to explore any possible means to get a way to prove his crimes.

Yeah. Lemme see what else I can come up with.

Okay. Keep me informed. We'll meet in the courtyard?

Yes. We'll meet there after school.

Okay, I'll be waiting.

Ren put his phone back to his pocket and he snapped his attention back to the class.

"What can I do?"

Shujin Academy. Courtyard.

Afterschool.

Ann find Shiho sitting on a bench close to the vending machines. Her head was bowed down, as she avoided looking at anyone.

-Shiho? You're not heading to volleyball? — Ann asked worried. Shiho nodded her head in the affirmative. Ann noticed a bruise above her left eye. — That bruise above your eye… Is that from practice, too? — She asked, surprised and worried.

-Y-Yeah… But don't worry. It's nothing. — Shiho said, giving Ann a faint smile.

-Are you sure you're not pushing yourself too hard?

-I'm okay… Volleyball is the only thing I can do right… — Shiho said, with a low tone.

-Shiho…

Ann heard her phone rings.

-Shouldn't you take that?

-It's probably just my part-time job… I think. Don't worry, It's nothing. — Ann said looking at Shiho.

-I see… I… should get going.

-Shiho… Are you sure you're okay?

The black-haired girl just nodded in affirmative and she walked away. Ann only stared in silence as Shiho go away. Taking her phone, she answered the call.

-Yes…? Today won't work… I'm… I'm not feeling well… Sorry. Bye.

Ann went away from the courtyard, as two students pass by on her side, went towards the vending machines.

-Hey, wasn't that Takamaki? — The light-brown haired student asked.

-Yes, it's her. Rumor says she's dating Kamoshida. — Said the other student looking at Ann. — I heard people saw them in his car together.

-Seriously? — The gossiping student nodded his head in affirmation to his friend. — You know… she seems pretty easy, huh? Do you think I'd have a chance, too?

-C'mon dude, you can't go after Kamoshida's bitch!

Shujin Academy. First floor.

Afterschool.

Ren was on his way to the courtyard, when he accidently bumped into someone.

-Oh?

-Ah!

Ren saw a girl on her knees, trying to stood up. He lends to her his hand to help.

-I'm sorry. — Ren said after helping the girl to stand up.

-It's okay. I was in the middle of the way. I'm sorry…

Ren recognized Shiho and then he saw a bruise on her face.

"She was hit by Kamoshida too?" He thought, completely shocked, but keeping a calm expression so not to worry her. She was in a sad mood, trying to avoid staring at him.

-Don't worry about it. I'm fine. I'm the one who should apologize. I wasn't paying attention either.

-Even though, I really am sorry though. I must've spaced out…

-It's okay. It happens sometimes. More importantly, are you hurt?

-No… Thank you for your concern. — She said with her head bowed down, then she looked at him. — Hm… you don't look familiar. Could you be that transfer student from Class D?

-Yes, it's me. My name's Ren Amamiya.

-My name's Shiho Suzui.

Ren noticed Shiho staring at him, her opaque brown eyes analyzing him top to down. She lifts slightly down her head as she turns her body to her right, looking at him worried.

-Um… this might not be any of my business, but don't let the rumors get to you, okay?

-Don't worry, Suzui-san. These rumors don't bother me. — He said with a gentle smile.

-I'm glad to hear that. — She said, turning back at him. — You know… my best friend is often misunderstood too, all because of her looks… I don't like to see her down because of the rumors about her too.

-I see… You truly like her, huh?

-Yes… Ah, sorry. I didn't mean to drag on like that.

-It's okay. Don't worry about it. In any case, if you need to talk to someone, or need some help, you can call me, okay?

-Okay. — She took her phone out and looked at the time. — Anyway, I have to go to practice. Now, if you'll excuse me.

Shiho took a few steps away towards the corridors.

-Wait.

-Yes? — She asked, turning at Ren.

-Are you going to be okay? — Ren asked and the girl just nodded in affirmative.

-Yes… Don't worry about me. I'll see you around… Amamiya-kun.

-Okay… Suzui-san.

Shiho left and Ren stared at her. He felt his spine shiver as he saw her disappear through the crowd.

"Why do I have this unease feeling…?"

He went back on his way towards the courtyard, and he saw Ryuji close to the vending machines, fidgeting impatiently at the ground with his foot.

-Dammit! What the hell…!

-Did you at least could find someone to talk? That is, if you could find someone… — Ren asked, already having an idea of his answer.

-You already figured out, huh? Do you think I had found someone?

-Clearly not.

-Exactly! — Ryuji smashed his fist furiously against the vending machine. — All of 'em kept sayin' the same shit Mishima was talkin' about! — He smashed the machine once again. — Darn! Kamoshida have told 'em something! He must have!

Ren sighed heavily as he stared at the blond punk.

-And now? At this rate…

-At this rate… we'll have to go to him directly…

-There's no point. He can deal with us by any means. Remember, he already threatened us that day. If we go after him…

-I know… — Ryuji sighed tiredly. — But seriously, isn't something more we can do? There's still something we can do. There's no way I'm gonna give in like this! — Ryuji stared at Ren, in a plead. — Can you think of anything?

Ren thought for a moment, analyzing the options.

-We could do a sneak attack, but if we get caught…

-If we get caught, we'd be seriously done for. That'd be fine if we could do without gettin' caught, but still…

-There's still a chance, and with our reputation…

-Yeah… You got any other ideas?

Ren put his hand on his mouth, thinking about that.

-We should call the police. But then…

-Yeah. If we tell 'em about the castle… They'd never believe us…

-I'm not mentioning that, Ryuji. If we press charges against him without any proof against him, and especially in our situation…

-It's their words against ours. There's no use. — Ryuji sighed. — So, what do we do?

-We… We…

Ren thought of pressing charges against Kamoshida personally, as he investigates and presses charges against him in court, but without evidence it was useless.

"If I can… If I only can do that…"

But you can't. What could we do? Wait for him leave us alone? Or we could take him down and punish him for his crimes? That's your decision, although I am you, and I know you want to punish him.

"Why are you bothering me at this moment Arsene?" — Ren asked.

Well, I know you want to punish him in the same way he tortured the innocent ones of this school. You even saw the girl was a victim of his. If you let it be, he's still going to continue. Are you only going to watch? Or are you going to act? It's your decision.

Ren thought about Arsene's words. He wanted Kamoshida to pay. He wanted him to pay for what he had done to the whole school, for what he did with Ryuji, and for what he did with Mishima and now with Shiho. He wanted to punish him for what he'd done. And he knows how he can do that.

-Let's punish the king. — Was Ren answer. His eyes were dead-set, aiming to take Kamoshida down.

-The king…? Wait. You mean that other world's Kamoshida? — Ryuji asked, in disbelief.

-Exactly. We can punish him by dealing with Kamoshida's Shadow.

-I didn't think of that, but… Is there any meaning to—

-I finally found you two…

Ren and Ryuji looked around, looking for the source of the mysterious voice. Ren recognized the voice.

"No, it can't be." Ren thought surprised.

-Hey Renren, did you say somethin'?

-No. It wasn't me. But I think the voice was from…

A black cat jumped on the table, surprising Ren and Ryuji. The cat turned his head, glancing at both teenagers.

-Don't you two think you can get away without paying me back for helping you.

-So, it's you. — Ren said while he toyed with a mesh of his hair. — I confess I'm surprised to see you. Especially like that.

-Is that you, Morgana!? — Ryuji asked, surprised as well.

-Yes, It's me! How dare you two to up and leave me the other day! — Morgana exclaimed furiously.

-Well, you offered yourself in first place. And you never asked us back for a favor.

-Hmph! There are just excuses.

-Yeah, right! — Ren said, crossing his arms on his chest, starring at the cat.

-It's just me or the cat's talkin'!? — Ryuji asked in disbelief.

-I am NOT a cat! This is just what happened when I came to this world! — Morgana explained, truly annoyed. — It was a lot of trouble finding you two.

-Well, you just could wait for us next to school, instead of wandering around looking for us. — Ren said to Morgana, as he and Ryuji approached the cat.

-Wait… You came to our world!? — Ryuji asked, more perplexed than before. — Does that mean you've got a phone!?

"What was that?" Ren thought in disbelief after hearing Ryuji's question, staring at him in disbelief.

-Ryuji, do you think Morgana can carry a phone with him? Even use one?

-Uh, no…?

-So, why you asked him that?

Ryuji stared at Ren for a second and winced. Then he scratched his head, his cheeks slightly flushed pink.

-Sorry, I'm kinda shocked to see him here. Especially like that. — Ryuji explained. — But dude, how's he here? We need to use our phones to go to the other world.

-I don't need one, if that's the case.

-What do you mean? — Ryuji asked.

-You don't need a phone when you're at my level. I simply can go and went back whenever I want. — Morgana explained.

"Interesting, Morgana can travel to the Metaverse without the aid of the Metaverse Navigator. But that's weird… even if he can do that, he's actually at our power level for some reason." Ren thought analyzing the black cat.

-So, you know how to travel to the Metaverse and go back without the aid of the Metaverse Navigator, right? — Ren asked, curious.

-Yes. Although when I came to this world, I got myself pretty lost after making my escape…

"Looks like he doesn't know how-to walk around in the city…"

-That aside, why can you talk!? You're a cat!

-How should I know?

-Well, I thought you know everything, since you explained everything to us.

"I think I know why Morgana can talk, but I not going to comment anything. Those two are too lost for me to explain."

-Hey Ren, you hearin' this too… right?

-Meow?

-What…? — Ryuji asked confused, then he heard Ren laughing. — Hey, dude! Isn't time for that! — The blond scolded. Ren laughed for a moment.

-Sorry. — Ren said after he stopped laughing. — Yes. I heard, Ryuji. It's Morgana. It's either him, or we're being hallucinating together.

-If that was the case, I think we've both gone off the deep end… — Ryuji said, staring at the black cat. — So, in fact it's you, huh?

Morgana started to lick himself, as he looks Ryuji.

-So, you guys are having a rough time, hm? I heard you mention something about witnesses.

-Were you eavesdrop on our conversation the whole time? — Ren asked, upset.

-Kinda, actually it is easy to hear you two, especially with this idiot is almost yelling at everyone.

-Oh, shuddup! — Ryuji said, feeling embarrassed.

-You know, I could tell you guys a thing or two about what to do with Kamoshida. If you guys want to know…

-Alright, I'll bite. What do you mean with that? — Ren asked.

-You should know frizzy-hair, since you were pretty close just a moment ago.

-God, that condescendin' attitude! This thing's gotta be Morgana! — Ryuji yelled excited.

-You were still doubting me!? — Morgana yelled back.

-Yeah! You said you're a human!

-You two, lower your voices! — Ren scolded, while he was looking around.

-What!? — Morgana yelled back, even louder.

-Ack! Quiet down! — Ryuji ordered as well, after Morgana yell.

-We really have to be looking for a cat in a busy time like this?

Ryuji recognized the person's voice. It came from a teacher who were with a student. Both was searching around the courtyard, looking for something.

- Shit…! These guys are from the disciplinary committee! If they caught you with us, we'll be in big problem. — Ryuji said, sweating nervous.

-Quickly, stay in the front of the desk.

Ren and Ryuji stayed in the front of the table, hiding Morgana behind them, pretending that they were both having a chat.

-I just heard a meow somewhere near here. Didn't you hear it? — Asked the student who's also a member of the Disciplinary Committee.

-Yes. Make sure you check every nook and cranny around.

-Okay.

Both looked around one more time before going back to their search.

-Meow? Does that mean that only the two of us can understand what you're sayin'? — Ryuji asked.

-Looks like it. — Morgana said, calmly, while he started to lick his paw.

-It's a matter of cognition. That's why they can't understand you. — Ren explained.

-Seriously dude? You're understanding that? — Ren nodded his head in affirmative. Ryuji messed his hair even more. — Ugh! What the hell's goin' on?

-Calm down, Ryuji. I'll explain to you later, okay?

-Okay… — Ryuji snapped his attention to Morgana. — Anyways, what you were talkin' about earlier… Is it for real?

-You're quite the skeptic for an idiot.

-Is there any problem with him being skeptical? — Ren asked. "He's right to doubt though" He thought glancing the cat. — Well, ignoring that, you should tell us more about it. About how to deal with Kamoshida.

-Yeah. We need to know how to deal with him. But now, this probably ain't the best place to talk about this.

-I agree. Do you know a place where we can talk quietly? — Ren asked.

-We can use the rooftop, remember?

-Okay. I almost forgot.

-Hey, and what about me?

Ryuji grabbed Morgana by his yellow collar and extended it towards Ren.

-Here, stick it in your bag for now! It should be small enough to fit!

-What!? You're not serious…

-In the situation we're in, we don't have much choice. — Ren took his bag and opened it, taking Morgana from Ryuji and putting him inside his bag. — I'm sorry Morgana.

-Hey! How dare you to treat me like—

He closed the bag, just leaving a small opening to Morgana to breath.

-Okay. Let's go.

Shujin Academy. Rooftop.

Afterschool.

-…Don't be so rough with me! — Morgana yelled furiously.

-Enough of that! — Ryuji yelled back.

-Calm down you two! — Ren ordered, keeping his voice low. — Do you two want to be caught here?

-Sorry… — Both Morgana and Ryuji answered.

-Good. We should be quiet, or someone's gonna find us. — Ren snaps his look at Morgana. — Okay Morgana, now explain to us if you please.

-Yeah. You said you know how we can do something about Kamoshida, right? — Ryuji asked.

-Yes. It has to do with what this guy was talking about earlier. You'll need to attack his castle.

-What do you mean? — Ryuji asked.

-You mean attack his Palace? — Ren asked, surprised. — Why?

-That castle is how Kamoshida views this school. He doesn't realize what happens in there, but it's deeply connected to the depths of his heart. Thus, if the castle disappears, it would naturally impact the real Kamoshida.

-What'd happen? — Ryuji asked.

-A Palace is a manifestation of a person's distorted desires. So, if that castle were no more…

-His desires will disappear too, and he'll become an honest man. — Ren completed Morgana's phrase.

-Precisely! You sure pick things up fast! — Morgana commented, proud of Ren.

-For real!? H-He's gonna turn good!? — Ryuji asked in disbelief. — I mean… is that really gettin' back at him?

-Yes. Erasing a Palace essentially means forcing the owner to have a change of heart. However, even though their warped wants disappear, the crimes they committed will remain. Kamoshida will become unable to bear the weight of those crimes, and he'll confess them himself!

-Are you for real!? That's possible!?

-I am, Ryuji! And since the Palace no longer exists, he'll forget what we did there as well. Not only will we be able to take Kamoshida down, but there won't even be a trace of our involvement.

-That's amazing! You are one incredible cat!

-True, except for the cat part!

"What's your problem with being a cat…?" Ren commented mentally. "Whatever… That's not important. Now the important point is how we are going to erase Kamoshida's Palace. And what's the trick behind it…"

-So? How do we get rid of his Palace? — Ryuji asked, feeling excited after hearing a way to take Kamoshida down.

-Simple. By stealing the Treasure held within.

-Wait, what? Did you say stealing? — Ren asked, surprised by Morgana's answer.

-Yeah, stealing. There's something wrong with that? — Morgana asked.

-Well… yeah. Is that really necessary? — Ryuji asked, surprised and nervous.

-Don't worry, I'll explain. Actually, I'll tell you guys more once you two agree to go ahead with this. It's my most valuable, secret plan, after all.

-And you're still trying to include us in your master plan, huh? — Ren asked.

-At least it doesn't hurt to try. If you guys want to help me out, I'll gladly teach you. What's your call?

-Ryuji…?

-Our luck is runnin' dry lookin' for witnesses. Guess we have no choice but to go along…

"Ryuji's right… We don't have any choice. But there's something tricky in this, and I need to find out."

Ren thought for another way, but he failed to think anything.

-Dammit…! You're right. We don't have any other choice… — Ren said, facepalming his face, nodding his head in negative.

-…Good. — Morgana said happy. Ryuji celebrated.

-Alright! Now then, let's go! We need to…

-Wait, Ryuji. There's still something I need to know from Morgana. If you could?

-Yes.

-What? Dude, you…

-Ryuji. Pay attention. Didn't you find it odd all of that? The fact there are a lot of benefits of stealing his desires.

-What…? Well… now that you mentioned… it's true, there something odd about it.

-Yes, because there's a fatal flaw in this, am I right, Morgana?

-Yes. There's something I need to tell you two. If we erase a Palace, there's no doubt that the person's distorted desires will be erased as well. But desires are what we all need in order to survive. The will of sleep, eat, fall in love—Those sorts of things.

-What're you gettin' at? — Ryuji asked confused.

-Ryuji, have desires is important, because these is a part of us, a reflection of our personality. If we steal his desires, his Treasure, maybe, just maybe, there's a chance of…

-Of what? — Ryuji asked Ren.

-There's a chance of us putting him in a mindless state. Or even worse.

-What do you mean with that?

-Like the frizzy-hair said, if all of those yearnings were to vanish, they'd be no different than someone who was shut down entirely. They may even die if they're not given proper care.

-In other words, there's a chance of us killing him in the process. — Ren completed the sentence.

-Whoa… Whoa… You're sayin' they might die!? — Ryuji asked, truly shocked.

-Will you listen to everything I have to say first?

-Wait. This is serious! If they die, would their death be our fault?

-Aren't you determined enough to face those kinds of risks? — Morgana asked, serious.

-Hey, that's a serious issue, man… Dammit! — Ryuji snaps at Ren. — Hey… What do you think?

Ren was silent. Ryuji and Morgana were looking at him, waiting for an answer.

"Dammit! It's worse than I thought! If we do that, there's a chance of us killing him, if we not do that, he'll still continues his reign of terror above everyone in the Shujin Academy. We've already ran out of options, and I can't do anything else…"

-I don't want to kill him, but we've got to risk it. We don't have any other choice, Ryuji.

-Ren… For real…?

-I'm not happy with that too. I understand your worry.

-Sheesh… I come all this way, and this is what I get. — Morgana said with deep disappointment. — It's not like anyone will ever find out.

-That's not the point! Can't you get it?

-Get what? Isn't that your only option? — Morgana asked.

-Morgana, there are some risks we are not willing to take it. Ryuji has a point. We need to think about the consequences. And…

-If we just go around secretly doin' whatever we want, we'd be no better than that effin' Kamoshida! — Ryuji completed Ren's sentence.

-Ryuji's right. Even if we went successful, there still a chance of him dying. And there is a chance of people even gets suspicious of us. What if someone finds out? Have you thought about that?

-No…

-We can't just do that and let the things happened, we'll be like him. We can't avert our eyes to that. Especially in a situation like this.

-Even is that your only option, frizzy-hair?

Ren went silent again. He thought about the options he has and he looked at Ryuji, before staring at Morgana.

-You don't need to answer now… I'll come back later. You two make sure you've made your decision by then.

Morgana ran away. Ryuji grunted disappointed.

-Man, we've gettin' all worked up for nothing… Dammit!

Ren sighed.

-What now? — He asked, turning his head towards his direction. — It wasn't like we don't have any choice…

-I'll try and see if I can figure out another way… There has to be another way… — Ryuji sighed. — C'mon let's get outta of here.

Ryuji walked towards the rooftop exit.

-Ryuji, wait.

The blonde turn back to Ren.

-What? You're still bothered by what Morgana said?

-Yes. — Ren stared at Ryuji. — I need to confess I'm interested in that, if that means we'll have a way to solve this, even if it that means act like him, but at the cost of his life? That's too far, even for me.

Ryuji stared at Ren and nodded his head.

-Don't get bothered by that. We're gonna find another way. I'm sure we can.

-Yeah, but… — Ren sighed frustrated. — Ryuji, if I tell you I know a way to solve this without doing that, if that's the case, would you do it?

-Well… at least I'll be glad for not doin' this shit. — Ryuji stared at sky. — Well, let's go. We better get out before the school closes.

Ren nodded and both of them went walked out the school. Ren stopped at the front gate and looked around.

-Dammit… — Was the only thing Ren said. He felt his phone vibrating in his pocket, and he quickly took it, starting to read Ryuji's message.

Yo, some of the guys in my class have been gossiping about some rumors. Some of 'em was 'bout Suzui… Looks like there's some rumors about her and Kamoshida. If they're true, it's no wonder I couldn't get her to talk.

Makes sense, since she's a member of the team, and she's close to Takamaki. — Ren answered.

But still, something about that doesn't seem right… — Ryuji said.

There's something off about this story, right?

Yeah. Because it's just impossible.

What do you mean? — Ren asked.

I've know Takamaki and Suzui since middle school. And there's just no way she's Kamoshida's type, y'know? — Ryuji explained.

Ren thought for a moment, remembering Ann behavior and Shiho behavior as well.

You got a point. Most of the rumors are about Takamaki dating Kamoshida.

So… I wonder where those rumors came from.

Maybe the rumors came from the team itself? — Ren asked.

Maybe, but we need to be sure 'bout that. I guess we'll get to it tomorrow. — Ryuji said. — Okay then, see ya!

See you tomorrow.

Ren stared at the screen for a minute before putting his phone back to his pocket.

"These rumors are getting worse than I thought. I should listen to their gossip when I go home, to have an idea of what they are talking about. Maybe I can find the source of these rumors."

Ren discretely walked around, seeing two girls who were chatting. He walked into the alleyway and he stood at a point he was close to the girls, acting as he was only staying around to play with his phone, while he listened to their conversation.

-Takamaki always looks kinda unhappy whenever Mr. Kamoshida talks to her. — Said the gossipy girl.

-Maybe she doesn't wanna talk to him at school to show off how she's got him wrapped around her finger. Ugh… Gross. — The girl who was talking with the gossipy girl said, feeling disgusted.

-Oh, so that's what's going on… I wonder how far they're gone together…?

Ren walked away and went back to the street, when he saw two other girls talking to each other. He simply stood behind the girls, while he looked at his phone screen.

-I saw the new transfer student hanging around with Sakamoto-kun. Those two are so scary… — Said the first girl with a frightened tone.

-He doesn't look like the kind of guy who'd have a criminal record. Maybe he's one of those? You know, the people in those accidents. Maybe he suddenly freaks out and attacks people. — Said the short-haired girl, being more skeptical.

-Huh? I don't think so. He's just been coming to school. Actually, he almost seems normal. And from what I hear, after you have a psychotic breakdown, you go brain dead and die right there.

"That's interesting. So that's was they're saying about me, huh?" He thought while he took notes on his phone. Walking around, he went to the vending machines, when two male students were talking nearby. He stood in front of the machine, seeing the options he could buy.

-Sakamoto's been asking questions about the volleyball team. Just who does he think he is? — Said the messed-haired student.

-The volleyball team's will never tell him anything. They're all completely loyal to Kamoshida. — Saying the other student, with a carefree tone.

-Well, if Kamoshida likes them, their future is pretty much set. Of course, they'd back him up.

"That is if Kamoshida is willing to help them with that." Ren thought, while he looked a drink to buy.

-Speaking of which, I heard around about Kamoshida's new favorite is someone named Suzui.

-Oh, the girl who was chosen to be a regular? Ah, her face was all swollen. It looked pretty bad.

Ren brought a drink and he walked away. He went towards the station, taking a large sip of his soda.

"I couldn't take something useful from these rumors, and I couldn't even find much about the origin of these rumors… Dammit, I need to find the origin of these rumors and fast."

Arriving at the station, he went directly to the Ginza Line, and before he went inside, he heard two girls talking about.

-Did you see what people were saying on that site? It's him…

"What are these girls are talking about?" He thought, while Ren pay attention in the girl's conversation.

-By the way, I saw the video of that accident. I'm so traumatized when I saw that. I've been afraid of riding the train ever since.

-There've been similar accidents before, right? What happens if you get a psychotic breakdown? Do you know?

-Well, out from nowhere, you'll go crazy and violent, and then you suddenly pass out. In the very end, you die in a lot of pain. That's what I hear. You die, or you're as good as dead.

"Everyone is talking about these psychotic breakdowns. These incidents are becoming more frequent…" Ren remembered what Morgana talk with him. "And what Morgana proposed is actually too similar with a psychotic breakdown… And our power. What's the meaning of all of this?"

Ren entered the train and the vehicle went towards the Shibuya District, stopping at the Teikyu Building. Ren exited the train and walked towards the stairs that gave access to Shibuya Station Square.

"I'm with my hands tied up. There's nothing much I can do in this situation, no matter how much I look at him. Dammit! I want to solve this, but I don't want to cross the line… If I can…"

Ren arrived at the Shibuya Station Square, still lost in his thoughts.

"What can I do? If there's no other way I—"

-Will you please give it a rest!? I already told you, I'm not feeling well today…

Snapped out of his thoughts, Ren turned towards the voice direction. It was Ann, who was in a heated conversation with someone on the phone. She was with her voice raised in anger.

"She's in an intense arguing with someone…"

-Wait, what!? — Ann asked, surprised. — That's not what you promised! And you call yourself a teacher!?

"She's talking with Kamoshida… There's something wrong about this."

-Wait! This has nothing with Shiho! — Ann said furiously, when she heard something that shocked her, as the person on the other side of the line hung up the call. She crouched in a ball, in despair.

-Shiho's… starting position…

Ren saw the girl starting to cry, as she was ignored by the crowd.

"She's and Shiho are victims of him as well… I can't leave her like that."

Ren calmly approached the girl and gently touched her shoulder.

-Takamaki. — He called her name.

Ann surprised, stood up, taking a few steps back from Ren.

-Huh? Wait… Were you listening? — The blond girl asked surprised, then her face twitched in anger. — Haven't you heard of privacy?

-Please, calm down. — Ren said, lifting his hands up. — I didn't do it on purpose. You were literally yelling for everyone hear.

She looked at him, her face has softened after hearing his explanation.

-…No, I was out of line. Sorry. — She said while she wipes away the tears.

-No, I'm the one who should apologize. — Ren said, seeing Ann recomposing herself. — Are you okay?

-Yes, I am… So how much did you hear?

-You were arguing with someone. About a friend of yours.

-I see… That is true, but… Just ignore that, it's nothing at all. Just nothing…

Ann started to cry again.

-Hey, are you really alright?

-Yeah… Just…

She ran away, going to the underground station.

-Wait! Takamaki…! — Ren lost her sight, in the middle of the crowd. — I better follow her!

Ren ran after Ann, rushing downstairs to the underground station. Walking around, he looked for any sight of the blond girl.

"Dammit, I can't find her… Leaving her in that state is not good. I need to find out what's happening with her."

-What the heck was that? That girl almost bumped into me.

Ren approached the man.

-Excuse me, but the girl in question was she a blonde one?

-Yes, if you are looking for her, she went downstairs, towards the underground walkway.

-Thank you very much.

Ren went down to the underground walkway, and he started to search around for Ann. Walking around he saw near to one of the columns a blond hair. He walked towards her, but Ann saw him and started to run once again.

-Takamaki, wait!

-Stop following me! Leave me alone!

-Wait!

Ren grabbed her wrist, and she started to struggle.

-Let me go!

-Not in this state. Please calm down.

-Leave me alone! — Ann ordered, still trying to get free.

-I can't. I can't leave you like that.

-Just leave me alone… Please.

-No.

-Please…

Ann started to cry again, as she was still trying to get free.

-No. I can't leave you like that. Please, calm down.

-Why… — She asked in the middle of her sobs. — Why do you keep worrying about me? I don't even know you.

-Because I know how it feels, to be powerless and alone, and with no one you can ask for help. I simply can't leave you like that.

Ann cried and Ren pulled her close to him. She cried on him, as he embraced her, trying to comfort her.

-It's okay. It's okay. You're not alone.

After several minutes, she slowly stopped sobbing. Ren looked around, seeing some people starring at them.

-Takamaki, let's go to a safe place, a place where no one's is gonna bother us.

-What…?

-Here is not a good place to stay. Come with me.

-What the heck…? Why are you asking me that?

Ren stopped to embrace her and took a few steps away, then he turned towards her.

-You don't need to go with me if you want to. — He extended his hand towards her. — So, it's your choice. Do you want to go or not?

Ann wiped her tears, and looked at Ren.

-I really don't get you…

Taking his hand, both went walked out the station, going to the streets.

Shibuya District. Shibuya Main Street.

Afterschool.

At a random restaurant he found, Ren and Ann were sitting on a distant table, at the corner. The waitress put two cups of water on their table and Ren thanked the waitress as she went to another table.

-I don't have anything to talk with you! — She said angry. Ren just nodded his head in agreement. — Trust me, it was nothing. It was just an argument…

-With Kamoshida, am I wrong? — Ren asked, surprising her.

-How did you know?

-I deduced from everything I know. Especially from all I have seen and for your conversation, and your behavior towards him.

Ann toyed with her hair, avoiding staring at Ren, glancing her cup of water. Ren remained silent, waiting for her answer.

-You're right. It was him.

"She's too stressed out… Better let her talk." He thought, analyzing the girl in front of him. She glanced him back.

-You're not going to ask me anything about it? — The blond girl asked, doubtful.

-About what?

-Well you know, about me and him? You've heard the rumors… haven't you? About me and Mr. Kamoshida. — She asked, starting to toying with the napkin on the table. — Everyone says we're getting it on.

-Yes, I heard about it. But I don't believe in those rumors. It's obvious you're not dating him. — Ren answered, taking a sip of his cup.

-Yes… But they always say that. Some of them even say I'm the one who come on to him, like I was a bitch or something… Ugh… That's so not true! — She said annoyed, putting some strength on the paper. — It was as you said, that was him on the other line. — Ann slightly bowed down her head, hiding her eyes. — Honestly, I avoided giving my number… for the longest time…

-But he managed to get it, right?

-Yes. He told me to go to his place after this… — Ren saw her grabbing the napkin and kneading it. — You know what it means. — She dropped the napkin. — If I turn him down, he said he'd take my friend off as a regular on the team… — Ann's shoulders started to tremble slightly, as she talks. — I've been telling myself all of this, everything, this is all for Shiho's sake… But… I can't take it anymore. — She said, as her voice fails. She laid her back against the chair, feeling the burden letting her down, as the tears rolled down her face. — But still… Shiho's my best friend. She's the only reason I keep going at that excuse of a school. The only one. — She stared at him with her crying eyes. — Please tell me… What should I do…?

"She's lost, and everyone is turning their back to her." Ren gripped his shoulders in anger. "Dammit, I can't do anything to help her as well?"

He remained silent as she's cries.

-Sorry… I shouldn't have asked you that. It's not your problem.

"There's nothing I can do? This is it? The option Morgana offered to us is the only one…?"

Ren watched Ann wipe her tears and his shook his head in the negative.

-Don't worry about that. It's okay to ask for help.

Ann stared at him, perplexed.

-What… am I saying to you? I've barely even talked to you before… I…

-It's fine. I'm the one who should apologize.

-Huh? Why? — She asked surprised.

-Because I butted into your matters, but I couldn't leave you. Not in this state. Sorry for doing that. — Ren said, running his hand on the back of his neck, feeling uncomfortable.

-No… It's okay. This is all my fault. — She wiped her tears, as she took a large sip of her water. — …You're so weird. Usually everyone just ignores me.

Ren avoided laughing at her comment, smiling at her instead.

-Takamaki…

-Ann. Call me Ann.

-Okay… Ann. I'm not everyone. I don't judge anyone by their appearance. That includes you. You're more than just your looks, I can see that, especially in the way you care about your friend, Shiho.

Ann looked at him, truly surprised. She analyzed him for several seconds.

-Are you really a bad person? I've heard people talking about you, but… I just don't see it.

-Don't get misunderstood, I'm worse than they saying. I'm bad to the bone.

-Wha… — She noticed his snicker. — Hey! Don't play with something serious like that! — Ann said serious. — Do you know what they say about you? — Ann's face fell down. — They said that you assaulted someone… That you almost killed them… — She avoided looking at him. — I kinda had a feeling they were all just exaggerations.

Ren took a deep breath, ignoring his own frustration.

-I thought you don't believe in rumors. The way you sounded when you talk about that.

-Or when you heard me talking with Shiho. I saw you walking around on the volleyball rally. I was talking too loudly, wasn't I?

-Not much, just enough to anyone who was passing by could hear. — Ren admitted. — But you're right. What happened in fact, if I can tell in a single phrase: it was a set-up.

-How?

-I was defending a woman, when… When I accidently made her aggressor hit a protection barrier. She's testified against me, and you know the rest.

-Oh… I…

-You don't need to feel sorry for me. What was done is done. There's no point in reviving the past like that… Not anymore.

-I see… You seemed lonely—almost like you didn't belong anywhere… We're the same in that regard. Maybe that's why it was so easy for me to talk to you.

-Well, you actually have Shiho, so you're not entirely alone. You have her.

-True… — She sighed. — Is there no way for me to help Shiho?

-About your question. If you really want to help her, you should stay by her side, supporting her, aiding her, but you need to let her to fight her own fights. If she wants to enter the team, she needs to do that on her own. You need to stay by her side to help in any case, not letting anyone use you as a trade coin.

-Huh!? Oh… I see… But… — Ann bowed down her head, glancing at the glass of water. — But, even with that, we know there's nothing I can do at this point. Honestly, I just wish he'd just change his mind… Like, forget about me, and everything… — She gave a small snicker, resting his back on the seat. — As if something like that would happen…

Ren only stared at the girl thoughtful, then he adjusted himself on the chair.

-Well, that's would be too convenient, but you should never doubt about it, it could happen at any moment.

Ann blinked for a few seconds, before laughing.

-I wasn't asking for a serious response to both questions. — She said with her mood up now.

-You wanted an answer from me Ann, of course I going to answer serious. — He said, smiling to her.

-Well thanks…?

-Ren. My name is Ren Amamiya.

-Ren… Thanks. I do feel a bit better now.

-I'm glad to hear that.

-Thank you once again… Ren. — Ann saw the time on her phone. — Is getting late… I'm gonna head home.

-It is… — He said checking the time as well. "Sojiro's gonna eat me alive…"

-Don't tell anyone what I have told you, okay?

-Okay. My lips are sealed.

-I'll try and think of a way to persuade Kamoshida. — She said, staring to walk away. She stopped at his side. — Well… thanks.

-It was nothing. Have a safe trip back home.

-Thanks. Bye.

Ann went to the exit, as Ren watched her disappear into the crowd. He walked towards the bench and paid for the cups of water. Then he exited the place, walking his way back home.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Afterschool.

-Suzui. — Mishima called. Shiho stopped to walk. She doesn't turn towards his direction. — Are you leaving?

-What is it? — Shiho asked, turning towards Mishima.

-Mr. Kamoshida is asking for you. — He whispered, turning his face, avoiding to look at the girl. — He's in the PE Faculty Office.

-What did he say? — She asked, without any emotion.

-…I don't know. — Mishima answered, visibly tired. — Well… I have to go.

Mishima left and Shiho trembled in fear and angst, as she heard her phone rings.

-Ann… — She said afraid, as she walks towards the PE Faculty Office.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

-…You're late! Where have you been? — Sojiro asked furious.

"Well, I'm expecting that. Not I can't blame him though."

-The trains were delayed. It was a nightmare to come back home.

-Don't give me those lies.

Ren sighed.

-I was helping a classmate alright? She's wasn't feeling well, and I took care of her until she's got better. Are you satisfied? — Ren answered, feeling a little annoyed with Sojiro behavior. "I swear, this probation is a pain sometimes…"

-I see… By the way, you haven't been hanging around with any back influences, have you?

-No. I don't. Besides, I already told you I had already made a friend. — Ren answered, while his toyed with his hair.

-A friend, huh? They're gotta be pretty strange to want to spend their time with you.

"I could say the same from you."

-That their problem, not yours. And they look normal for me.

-Sure. But remember, just make sure you're careful who your friends are. You don't want them ruining your life.

-Thank you for remind me. But I know how to take care of myself.

-You better be. — Sojiro yawned, and he saw the time on his phone. — Look at the time. Seriously, think about how I feel when I have to stay up here waiting for you.

-Sorry. Next time I call you or I send you a message advising you.

-Okay. — Sojiro stood up. — I'm leaving now. In the future, try not to come back so damn late. Understood?

-Understood. I'll try.

Ren went upstairs and he put his bag on the desk. He sighed tired as he looked the place.

"I still need to clean this place…"

Ren heard his phone ring, and he took it from his pocket.

So, whaddya think about what Morgana told us? — Was Ryuji message.

I still thinking about that… — Ren answered, sitting on the sofa.

I dunno if I get all that stuff about stealing desires… And Kamoshida's gonna turn like brain dead if we mess up, right? — Ryuji asked thoughtful, then he added. — I mean, sure I'm pissed at him… But I dunno if I really wanna kill that guy…

Yeah, that's too much. Even he deserves it, I don't want to kill him. I want him for pay for his crimes.

For sure. Even in that case, I don't wanna to be like him, or even worse… I mean, maybe I just freaking out, but I don't wanna end up a murderer cause of this shit.

True. Me neither. We're not punishers. Neither judges and jury.

Yeah… Oh well… I'll try and see if I can come up with some other way tonight.

Okay. Good luck. I'll try as well to figure out something.

Ren put his phone at the desk, and looked at his luggage. Taking the box out he took inside of there the case file and a small black velvet box he put inside in the day he arrived. Taking a look on the file, he put on the folder away as he picked the box and open it, staring at the contends inside. He sighed tired, as he put the box away.

"No matter how much I think about it, I simply can't do that. Not at this moment…" Ren stared at his phone, as he took off his school outfit. "There's no point of thinking at that. The real question is if we do that or not? If we should steal Kamoshida desires. We should do it?"

Ren wore his pajamas and set his alarm. He laid on his bed, staring the roof on the attic.

"That's the only way. There's nothing I can do." Ren looked at the box. "Better go sleep. Tomorrow is gonna be a long day.

Ren woke up, and saw he was once again at the Velvet Room. He stood up and walked towards the cell door. Igor was on the same place, waiting for him.

-Greetings. Welcome to my Velvet Room. — Igor said, staring at him.

-So, you are here once again, Inmate. — Caroline said, annoyed than the normal.

-Our Master wishes to speak with you. Please considerer every single word of his wisdom. It's for your own sake that you take his words to heart. — Justine said staring at him. Ren just nodded.

-So, why are you called me? — Ren asked.

-I have called you with the intention to aid you in your journey.

-I see, but you already said that to me.

-Yes, I asked you here Trickster because I need to warn you about—

The sirens rings indicating the time's over, however, the entire place trembled, as Igor staring at him with his creepy smile. The twins stared at him, then turned towards Igor's direction.

-Master, what's happening? — Justine asked.

-Something's wrong. This isn't supposed to happen. — Caroline commented, staring the whole Velvet Room.

-True. As far I warned and concerned about our guest, he was failed in his mission.

-What…? — Ren asked, truly perplexed.

-He… failed? — Caroline asked, in shock.

-Yes. Not only that, he failed to avoid the ruin of the world, bringing the destruction of the world within him. — Igor explained.

Caroline turned to Ren.

-Inmate! Did you fail at your mission? — She asked.

-What? Hey, I don't know what he's talking—

-Why? Why you have failed in your mission? — Justine asked, sad as well.

-I haven't failed! Igor, what are you talking about!?

Igor chuckled, starting at him.

-Didn't you have figure it out, Inmate? You have failed at your mission.

-No, I haven't failed! I did everything you asked me to do it.

Igor laughed, making Ren furious.

-What's so funny? — Ren asked.

-Yes. You in fact did everything as I asked. You have fulfilled your mission as a thief, as I asked. However, you have failed in your other mission. Your mission as an attorney.

Ren went in shock.

-What… did you…

Ren's cell started to crack; the walls started to succumb. The twins stared at him.

-This is your own fault, Inmate! — Caroline said furious, as she walks away. — You have ruined everything!

-No, I…

-You let this happened, Inmate. This is only your own fault. — Justine said, in disappointment. — It's time for you to pay.

-Wait! I can explain it!

Igor laughed.

-You can explain? Very well… But it's over. Now, it's time to face…

The cell stumbled, the walls and roof disappeared, revealing an open space. The court started to disappear, as Igor went out of his desk, walking towards him.

-…your final judgement.

Ren's face went pale, as the chains started to surrounded him.

-What is going to happening? — He asked.

-You going to see. Soon enough, you are going to discover the truth. — Igor said.

-Time to face your judgement, Inmate. — Said Caroline.

-Time to face your fate, Inmate. — Said Justine.

-Ren Amamiya!

The floor of the courtroom fell apart, as a huge figure emerged from it. For the teenager shock, it was a Judge. A giant judge who came from the ground and stared at him, as the twins just turned to the figure. Ren as frighten to see the figure, who was holding his gavel in his hands.

-It's time for your final judgement! To decide if you were able to avoid ruin or not. Now, prosecutor and defense, your statements.

-Your honor. — Said a distorted figure from the left side of Ren, on the Prosecutor's bench. — The defendant has distorted his duty as an attorney. According to the evidence, he was solely fault at his mission, breaking the oath his promised to keep.

-Wait!

-Defense, do you have any rebuttals?

-No, your Honor. — Said a distorted figure from the right side of Ren, on the Defense's bench. — The defendant clearly has broken his oath. Not only that, he even has decided to give up of his duty in order to keep himself out of the legal issues, in order to fulfill his probation, however he is doing that at the cost of innocent people life and even decided to went towards the thief way to solve the issues he's facing it, not only at the innocent ones life's, but at the cost of the corrupted ones life's. No matter how much I can look at it, he's clearly the culprit. There's nothing I can do in his behavior.

The Judge nodded his head in the affirmative.

-I see… Well, Mr. Igor, do you have anything to add to your testimony?

-No, I believe everything has been told at the court. There is nothing I need to add.

-Very well. It's time for me to declare my verdict. I declare the defendant, Ren Amamiya GUILTY, for the crimes of break of oath, renunciation of the duty, loss of faith and disbelief. The sentence for those crimes is the death!

-What…!

The chains tied the teenager, pulling him down, forcing him to stay on his knees.

-Wait, I can explain! — Ren shouted.

-There's no need to explain, you have already has been convicted. You have forsaken your duty as a lawyer, as a guardian of the justice.

-But…

-There's no excuses! You have forsaken your duty, not only that, you decided to not devote yourself to defend the justice and the truth and to defend the innocent's ones, the ones who can't defend yourselves. Instead, you accepted your fate and bowed towards the corruption, walking towards the same path as the corrupt ones.

-What do you mean!?

-You possess the power to change everything, to change a person's heart. You could use the power for the sake of everyone, however your motives to do that is bonded to your anger and rebellion, is bonded to the corruption of the depths of your heart. The same corruption the one who tries to rule the world, who thought they possesses the right to do so. That's the path you choose.

-But I haven't chosen…

-Silence! — Ordered the judge. — You have already chosen, that's the path you decided to walk into. Instead of defending them… — The imponent figure showed Ann, Shiho, Ryuji and Mishima. — …You have turned your back at them, when you decided to punish the king. To do the same at him.

-But I don't have any choice! What can I do?

-There's no excuses, defendant! Where your faith in your beliefs? Where your Will of Justice?

-I… I… — Ren bowed his head down. — I have my beliefs. I still having them. But I have put all of them away in order to fulfill my own desires. I confess, I admit I'm not innocent. I admit I still have anger towards everything I suffered. I want to make him pay! I want to have my vengeance! I want to be a thief to make them pay! But… I want even more to move forward. I want to have justice for everything I suffered. I want to be a defense attorney to fight for the ones who couldn't protect themselves, for justice and for the truth! But I don't know what can I do. I don't know if I have a choice. What I should do? What can I do?

The judge raised his gavel, his eyes brighten in an intense red.

-There's nothing you can do. Even I could give you the way, you can't avoid the ruin who awaits you. It's the end for you.

"This is the end…? There's nothing more I can do?"

Ren, no matter how impossible the situation is, no matter what, in the most desperate times, we should force our biggest smile. Because we need to face with courage, with a smile on our faces, not only for us, for the ones we being fighting for. There's only one moment we can cry and stop smiling, it's only everything was finally over. That's the one of the most important lessons I have for you.

When Ren remembered that phrase, he lifts his head up, staring at the judge with a determinate glance. Trying to stand on his feet, he fought to set himself free.

-No, there's something I can do. This can't be the end. Even I there's nothing more I can do, I going to still fight it, until the very end of it!

-You need more just than words, you need to act. There's still a slightly chance for you chance your destiny and avoid ruin. Your fate isn't determined yet. This is your last chance to make your future. You need to make a choice, accept your destiny, or fight to change it. It's time for you make a decision. Now, wake up… REN AMAMIYA!

With a powerful blow, the Judge hit Ren, making him fall in the endless abyss.

April 15, Friday.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Early Morning.

Ren woke up in a somersault, yelling by impulse. He was sweating and panting intensely, as he looked around, seeing he was in the attic. He put his hand on his face, and he noticed his forehead was drenched in sweat.

"It was a dream… Just a dream…!"

He got out of the bed and he took his school outfit. Went downstairs, he saw Sojiro, who stared at him a little surprised.

-Hey, are you okay?

-Yes…

-Where're you going? — The man asked, seeing Ren went towards the exit.

-To the bath house. I need to take a bath. — He answered, exiting the café, and he goes towards to the bath house on the end of the street. Taking a quick bath, he tried to calm himself down. After done, he came back to Leblanc, now wearing with his school outfit, going straight to the attic, picking up his bag and his phone, and went back to the shop, who Sojiro was waiting for him with his breakfast.

-Are you really okay? — Sojiro asked.

-I am okay. Why you so bothered about me? I thought you don't care what happens to me…

Sojiro scratched the back of his neck.

-I don't care what's happens to you, but I'm still your guardian, so you still are my responsibility. You better not be in any trouble, or you're finished.

-I know, I know. You don't need to tell me this again. — Ren said, as he ate his food silent. Sojiro looked at him, seeing his state.

-Do you have a bad night?

-You can say that. — Ren answered, without any wish to talk with him.

-You actually look horrible.

-Thank you for warn me. Can I eat my food quietly now?

Sojiro just nodded, leaving Ren alone, who was finishing to eat his breakfast. Once he was done, he stood up.

-Thank you for the food, once again.

-Okay. Don't forget to flip the sign for me.

-Okay… Sorry for my behavior. I'm not in a good mood these days.

-Okay. Next time try to not being so rude towards the others. You're not in a good situation, if you forgot.

-I know that. I can deal with my own problems. I'll be leaving.

-You better be.

-By the way, I going to arrive late today. I need to do some research.

-Okay. Just try to not get so late like yesterday.

Ren nodded and he exited the Leblanc and he flipped the sign, then he went to the station, taking the train to his school. He arrived at the Aoyama-Itchome Station and he walked straight to the Shujin Academy, avoiding to stay close to anyone, taking a distance from the other students.

-I can't believe Suzui-senpai missed such an important meeting. I wonder what happened. — An anxious girl said, looking at her classmate.

-Mr. Kamoshida asked to see her. I've heard rumors about how the two of them stay late together… — The other girl answered, with a worried look.

-I wonder what's going on… You don't think they're…?

-Nah, it couldn't be… Man, it's been nothing but bad news lately. I'm worried about the future…

"I'm only thinking about that…" Ren thought, listening to the girl's conversation. "Shiho… Why I still having this bad feeling…?"

-Oh, that reminds me. Apparently, a guest is coming to the school today. Some young guy, I think…

-…Really? Tell me more.

Ren ignored their talk and looked at the front gate of the school.

"What can I do…? There's really nothing I can do?"

Remembering his dream, he shook his head, pushing that thoughts away.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Class 2-D.

Morning.

-So, I assume all of you know about the separation of powers? — Mr. Ushimaru asked to the class, as he points at a certain point of the black board. — There are three branches in our government. The National Diet is legislative, the Cabinet is executive, and the Supreme Court is judiciary. This division of powers provides checks and balances, which ensures no one branch becomes unstoppable. — The teacher said, starting to make notes on the board. Ren was paying attention in the class, hearing his explanation.

"In a democracy this division of powers is important to even avoid, as Mr. Ushimaru said, a branch, or a representant from a branch abuse of the powers he had obtained. In certain cases, …maybe, depending of the nature of the case, that could go to the Supreme Court, to determinate—"

-Have you made up your mind?

Ren pushed himself slightly back, being surprised by Morgana, who came under his desk. He stared at him truly shocked.

-No matter how much you thinking you do, there's only one option. You'd be better off just listening to me.

-Shh! Be quiet! — Ren whispered, pushing the cat inside the desk.

-Hm? Did I just hear a cat just now? — Mr. Ushimaru asked, looking around with some students.

-M-M-Meow!

Ren discretely made a signal to Morgana stay quiet, as he looked around as well.

-Hm… Could that rumored cat be somewhere nearby? — Some of the students started to mumble. — Settle down! We're in the middle of an important lecture!

Ren felt his phone shook and he discretely took it away from his pocket, seeing the notification, showing a message of Ryuji.

It's no use… I can't think of any other way…

Are you cutting class? — Ren asked.

No, I'm in the classroom. But I can't deal with that shit right now. I mean, what're we gonna do about Kamoshida? I don't know what do to. Do we just gotta go along with what that cat says?

Talking about him, he's here, in my desk. Bothering me.

Urgh, that damn furball…

-If he only knew I'm reading this too… — Morgana commented.

-Can you do me a favor and stop reading my messages? That's private! — Ren commented, as he tried to keep his focus on the class. "Dammit, now Morgana's here, if that wasn't enough to disturb me."

The class went as planned, until a student in shock stood up, staring at the window seeing the outside.

-Hey… What's that…!?

-Enough! Back to your seat! This is a classroom! — Mr. Ushimaru scolded the student.

-But, Mr. Ushimaru, there's a student on the edge of the rooftop! It's a girl.

A female student behind the male student who was stood gawked.

-Wait! I know that girl. Is Suzui-san. — The girl gasped. — Oh my God! She's going to jump!

-What!? — Ushimaru asked, in shock.

-Suzui…? — Mishima asked perplexed, trying to process the situation. Some of the students lift up from their seats, as they looked through the window.

-Shiho…? — Ann asked, standing up in a somersault.

-Hey! Stay in your seats! — Mr. Ushimaru ordered. — Do not set your foot outside this room!

Ann hesitated before she rushes out the classroom.

"No, no, no, no!" Ren thought, following the girl.

Once outside, Ann stood on the window, seeing Shiho on the edge, against the protection grid. She stared at the ground for a moment, before she let her body fell from the rooftop, going directly to the abyss. Ann took a few steps away from the window, covering her mouth in utter shock.

-!

"No…!" Ren thought, in pure shock. "No…"

-No… Why! Shiho!

Ann ran towards the courtyard.

-Ann!

Ren run after her, but Ryuji appeared, standing in his way, visible shocked too.

-Hey! What's goin' on!? — The blonde punk asked.

-Suzui! She's jumped from the rooftop! — Ren answered, grabbing him by his collar.

-What!? We better should head to the courtyard too!

-Then follow me!

Ren rushed downstairs with Ryuji and both tried to went to the courtyard, but the passage was blocked.

-Th-the hell is this!? — Ryuji asked shocked than before.

-Damn! There's no way we can pass through them! — Ren said, trying to find an opening.

-C'mon, Ren. Let's try goin' through the practice building!

They ran and everyone who was watching was filming the scene and commenting about that. Most was about Ren and Shiho.

"They don't have any consideration at this moment?" Ren thought furious, as he went towards the other access with Ryuji.

-Excuse me! Let me pass! — Ren said, went inside the crowd.

-Hey, lemme through! — Ryuji said, as he tries to pass by. — Lemme through! Please!

Reaching the Practice Building, Ren and Ryuji went towards the Courtyard access, who was also crowded.

-That's not good. It's crowded as well.

Ren looked around, trying to find a way.

-Well, I'll try to see an opening. — Ryuji said, as he enters the courtyard.

-What a bother… — Said one of the teachers, coming from the courtyard. — You! Get the students back to their classrooms.

-Huh!? Me? — The girl, close to the access asked, truly surprised.

-Yes. I'm going to the faculty office. I'd better warn everyone not to go online and talk about this, too…

-What!? Um, but who's going to explain the situation to the paramedics…? And what about tending to the victim!? There are more important matters to address!

-What can I do? I…

-Ren, I found an opening! — Ryuji said, coming from the courtyard.

-Okay… I'm coming.

Ren went with Ryuji to the courtyard. Most of the students was recording the scene with their smartphones. Ren started at them in indignation, as he passes through them. Him and Ryuji reached at Ann, who was close to Shiho.

-Class still in session! — A panicked teacher shouted. Ren watched the scene in deep horror, as he stares at Shiho being attended by the paramedics.

-Shiho! — Ann said.

-What the hell's wrong with these people!? — Ryuji asked furious, as he saw the crowd recording the scene.

-Hey, stop that! Stop recording! — Yelled another teacher.

A paramedic came in direction of the crowd.

-We need someone to go with her… Are there any teachers around? — The paramedic asked.

The teachers started to arguing of who should go with Shiho, when Ann step forward to the paramedic.

-I'll go!

-Okay. Please hurry!

The paramedics started the proceedings as Ann stayed by Shiho's side.

-Shiho… Why…? — Ann asked.

Shiho was breathing with difficulty, almost falling in unconsciousness.

-Ann…? — She asked with difficulty. — Ann… I'm sorry… I… I can't take this… anymore…

-Shiho. Save your strength, everything's going to be alright.

-Ann…

-Shiho…?

Ann laid her head close to Shiho as she heard her words. Then she lifted her head up, even more shocked.

-Kamoshida!? — She whispered, in pure disbelief. Shiho fainted and Ann shook her. — No… Shiho!

The paramedics took Shiho and put her inside the ambulance. Ann enter with them and the ambulance went away at full throttle. Ren watched at that with pure sorrow and shock.

"Shiho…"

-Ryuji… — Ren asked.

-The volleyball team… — Ryuji said. Ren just nodded with his conclusion. They heard someone grunt and a few people complaining about a person bumping on them. — That guy…

-Mishima.

-Hey, wasn't Mishima acting weird? — Ryuji asked.

-Yes. He should know what happen to Suzui decided to jump. — Ren answered, adjusting his glasses.

-…Then, we're gonna make him talk this time.

Ren and Ryuji followed Mishima, as the principal came to contain the situation. After find Mishima walking through the corridors, Ryuji grabbed him by his arm tightly and dragged him towards an empty corner, followed by Ren.

-That's hurts! — Mishima said, massaging him arm, surprised by Ryuji.

-Why'd you run like that!? Huh!? — Ryuji questioned Mishima, cornering him.

-I didn't run…

-She jumped and tried to kill herself! — Ryuji exclaimed, smashing the locks with fist, making Mishima to jump back.

-Ryuji! Please stay calm. — Ren pleaded, holding his shoulder. — Mishima, you reacted in a way as you actually know something. Please tell us what had happened?

-…L-L-Leave me alone… Just…

Ren grabbed Mishima by his collar and stared at him with a restrained fury.

-Look, I saw a girl who tried to take her own life, and there's no way she didn't have a reason to do that! — Mishima saw Ren close his eyes and started to look straight at him again, that time his eyes was calm and collected. He noticed Ren's arms was trembling slightly. — You know what's happened to her for her tried to suicide. You know and you trying to hide it. It's useless to hide at this point. It's only going to make the situation even worse for everyone. — Ren sighed tired. — We're not after you Mishima, neither we want to hurt you, we just want an explanation. Please tell us everything.

-He's right! — Ryuji said, with his arms crossed, then his expression of his face softened. — We ain't tryin' to get you busted. We won't say you talked either.

Mishima sighed heavily, feeling a huge burden on his shoulders.

-Suzui… She… She was called out by Mr. Kamoshida! — He shook his head in desperation.

-What!? — Ren and Ryuji asked in unison.

-I was called by him a number of times too… to the teacher's room.

-It's just you two? And what's happen in there? — Ren asked.

-No, it wasn't just me or Suzui either. He's nominates someone when he was in a bad mood… and he hits them.

-So, the physical punishment thing was for real… — Ryuji said in anger.

-Is worse than I thought… — Ren whispered to himself, in a snap he remembered yesterday events. — Did he call her yesterday? — Ren asked, with certain desperation.

-Yes. But yesterday, he called Suzui out of the blue, after the training. She didn't make any mistakes or anything… Mr. Kamoshida seemed really irritated that day, so it must've been… worse than usual…

Ren's eyes widened in shock, as he took a step back. Ryuji saw his reaction.

-Ren… — Ryuji asked, then he realized as well, as his eyes widen as well. — He didn't…

Mishima turned his head down, avoiding to stare at them.

-That son of a bitch!

Ryuji ran away, surprising both Ren and Mishima. Ren stood for a moment, then he shook his head and ran with Mishima after the blonde punk.

-I bet… Sakamoto's going to find Mr. Kamoshida…

-You bet? I'm sure of it! — Ren shouted. — Where's him? Kamoshida?

-Mr. Kamoshida's probably in the PE Faculty Office on the second floor.

-Let's hurry, before he's does something.

"Ryuji… Don't let get tricked by him."

Ren rushed with Mishima towards the second floor, dodging the people on his way. After reach the second floor, they heard Ryuji's voice and Kamoshida as well.

-You bastard! What the hell did you do to with that girl!?

-What are you talking about?

-Don't play dumb with me!

They heard the sound of something crashing on the floor.

-That is enough! — Kamoshida yelled.

-Dammit! We're late. — Ren rushed to the PE Faculty Office.

-What are you doing? — Mishima asked.

-What do you think? I going to stop Ryuji before he crosses the line.

Ren enters the PE Faculty Office, and he saw Kamoshida staring at Ryuji.

-Ryuji.

-You too? — Kamoshida asked, even more furious.

-This has nothing to do with him. — Ryuji said. — Now tell me, what did you have done with that girl! Now!

-You're annoying me Sakamoto. I did nothing to that girl.

-You're lying.

-What?

Kamoshida saw Mishima staring fainting at him.

-What you did… wasn't coaching…!

-What did you say? — Kamoshida asked furious.

-You… you ordered me to call Suzui here… I can only imagine what you did to her…!

Kamoshida stood up, walking towards their direction. Ren grabbed Ryuji, pulling him away of Kamoshida.

-You're going on and on about things you have no proof of… — Kamoshida crossed his eyes and stared at Mishima. — Basically, you're simply making these claims because you can't be a regular on the team, right?

-That's not what this is about…!

Kamoshida nodded his head in the negative, looking the teenagers.

-Even if it is exactly as you imagine it to be, hypothetically speaking… — Kamoshida said, with a small smirk. — What can you do? There's no way you can prove that.

-You…

-By the way, we just received a call from the hospital Suzui is attending to. She's in a coma, and her chances of recovery are slim… How would someone like that make a statement?

That information caught the teenagers in surprise, as Ren keep trying to hold Ryuji.

-Oh, the poor girl… — Kamoshida said with a fake tone of sorrow. — There's no chance of her getting better, I heard…

-No… It can't be… — Mishima mumbled.

-That's true… After all… — He gave an evil grim, looking at them. — If she's dies there's no way of her tell anything.

Ryuji struggle, trying to get himself free…

-You goddamn…!

-Oh, this again? Well, what you can do Sakamoto? Or did you forget what happened last time?

-You shut you mount up, you son of a bitch!

Ryuji managed to set himself free and he went towards Kamoshida, ready to punch him. But before he could hit the teacher, Ren grabbed his arm, stopping him.

-Why're you stoppin' me…!? — He asked in fury.

-Ryuji, that not going to solve this.

-But still…

-Don't fall into his trap. — Ren said, snapping at Kamoshida. — Is that what he wants.

-Oh, what a surprise. Why've you stopping him?

-And we have another case of "self-defense"? No thank you. — Ren said, keeping his voice down, with an acid sarcasm on his voice.

Kamoshida laughed.

-Why not? There's need to hold back. Why not attack me? Oh, you can't. — He laughed once again. — Of course, all of you can't a lay a finger at me. And no one is going to believe in you.

Kamoshida went back to his chair and started to fill his paperwork.

-Everyone present at this moment right now will be expelled. I'm reporting all of you at the next boarding meeting.

-Wha…!? — Ryuji asked surprised.

-You can't make a decision like that…! — Mishima said, in indignation.

-Who would seriously consider what scum like you said? — Kamoshida asked, annoyed. — You threatened me too, Mishima, so you're just as responsible.

-Huh?

-To think you didn't know why I kept someone as talentless as you on the team. You acted like you was a victim, but it was you who leaked his criminal records, or did you forget? — Kamoshida smiled at them.

-Mishima…? — Ryuji asked, shocked, as Mishima fell on the ground, defeated.

-He told me to do it. I had no choice… I'm sorry…

Ren stayed quiet and stared Kamoshida.

-Now, are we finished here? You're all expelled! You're done for; your futures are mine to take. Not get out of my sight!

-That asshole's… I can't believe he's gettin' away like this. — Ryuji said furious, but for his surprise, he saw Ren taking a step further, staring at him.

-You don't possess any right to do that. — Ren said, calmly as could stay. — If you do that, I'll be forced to take measures against you.

-Huh… Oh, right! — Ryuji said surprised. — We still have that!

-Have all of you lost your damn minds? — Kamoshida asked furious. — And what you mean with that, transfer scum? Who's going to believe in you? And no matter how you try, there's nothing you can do. Your life is mine. But go ahead, try whatever you kids want to. It's gonna be useless. After all, you all have plenty of time to kill until your expulsion…

Ren went towards Mishima and aided him.

-Mishima, let's go. There's no point of stay here.

Mishima stood up and they walked away. Mishima went forward and Ryuji stared at Ren, after both went to the second floor.

-So… — Ryuji asked.

-It was my fault. — Ren said, interrupting Ryuji.

-What…?

-I know the motive of what he has done to Suzui yesterday. I knew it, and yet I have done nothing to stop him. And worse, I met her yesterday, before I go home. I talked to her. I could have helped her that moment, but I let her go. It was my fault Ryuji.

-But… dude, there's no way you can know…

-It was, okay? I could have stopped him.

-There's nothing you could do at that moment… It wasn't your fault.

-Maybe it wasn't, but I have the chance to stop that. There was one thing I could do, but I didn't, and now we're paying the price of my actions.

Ryuji grabbed his shoulder.

-Ren, there's no point, remember? We should focus on solve this mess now. We can still do something to stop him.

Ren nodded in affirmation.

-You're right. Let's get back to our classroom.

Shujin Academy.

Courtyard.

After School.

-We can't waste any time! — Ryuji said furious, smashing the vending machine. — We gotta hurry up and go to that world and beat the shit outta that asshole.

-…We're not beating him up. We're simply stealing his distorted desires. — Morgana corrected Ryuji, looking at the teenager, then alternating to Ren and looking back at Ryuji. — Can I assume that you've made up your minds about this—about how he might suffer a mental shutdown?

-…I have. Someone's almost died because of him! I don't give a rat's ass what happens to him anymore! I'm in.

-Okay… And you?

Ren closed his eyes and saw the scenes repeating over and over in his mind. The memories changed, showing the image of his mentors looking at him with proud. Remembering both, he looked at Morgana.

-I have a condition. If we going to do that, I want to do something first.

Morgana looked at Ren and nodded his head in affirmation.

-…Then it's settled! Now then—

-By the way, is gettin' rid of a Palace hard? — Ryuji asked, cutting Morgana. — You've tried it before, right?

-…When did I ever say that? — Morgana asked, earnestly.

-WHAT!? Were you just pretendin' to know!? — He asked shocked.

-No, but I said I was investigating the place, not trying to erase it. — Morgana snapped at Ren. — By the way, about your condition…

-Yes. My condition is…

-Is it true that you're getting expelled?

Ann came to their direction by their surprise. She was with a doubtful expression, looking at them.

-Everyone's is talking about it…

-That asshole's at it again! — Ryuji said, angrier than before.

-So, he decided to spread this now at this moment… He doesn't waste time. — Ren commented in an acid tone. Ryuji glanced towards the blond girl.

-So, you just came all this way to tell us that? — Ryuji asked, waiting for an answer. She walked to him and looked straight to Ryuji's eyes.

-If you guys are going to deal with Kamoshida… let me in on it too.

-WHAT!? — Ren, Ryuji and Morgana yelled.

-I can't just sit back and do nothing after what happened to Shiho!

Ryuji glanced at Ren and Morgana, sweating nervous.

-Takamaki, this has nothing to do with you… Don't butt your head into this… — Said Ryuji.

-We don't want you getting expelled by our cause. — Said Ren.

-But it does! Shiho's my…

Ryuji grabbed her by her shoulders.

-I said don't get in our way! — He yelled, and let her free. She looked at him and she ran away.

-…That was harsh. — Morgana commented.

-We can't take her somewhere like that… — Was Ryuji's only answer.

-He's right. She's not going to listen to us no matter what. We have to pull her away to avoid put her or anyone in danger. — Ren commented.

-I hope she's doesn't do anything too crazy. Women can be much bolder than men at times. — Morgana commented.

-Knowing Takamaki, we can't underestimate her…

-True. Women can be scarier when they want or need to do. — Ren commented.

-Sorry Ren, but you have to tell your condition later. We just gotta hurry up and deal with Kamoshida. — Ryuji said.

-Okay. Let's go.

They walked towards the school entrance avoiding to catch the attention of everyone. Once outside, they went to the alleyway, in a point they can't been seem. There, Morgana turned at the teenagers.

-The moment we cross over, we'll treat each other like phantom thieves, so I hope you guys are ready.

-Huh? Phantom thieves? — Ryuji asked confused.

-You mentioned that before… — Ren commented. "Being a phantom thief… that's Igor wants from me."

-Yes, phantom thieves! Those who covertly sneak in and stylishly steal Treasure—that is we become! — Morgana explained.

-I see… Not bad… Not bad at all I confess. — Ren admitted.

-That sounds kinda cool! — Ryuji said excited. — So, we just need gotta say the school, Kamoshida's name, and… "castle" to that weird app? Then we end up in the bizarro world.

-It's the Metaverse. And the Metaverse Navigator. — Ren corrected. — Well, are you two ready for it?

-Yes. — Both Ryuji and Morgana answered.

Ryuji took his phone and open the Metaverse Navigator.

-…How the hell's all of this work? Someone made it? — He asked, confused with the app.

-Probably yes. But it's not important now. — Ren said calmly, taking his phone. — Let me handle this.

-Okay… That's kinda creepy, but it's seems useful. — Ryuji stretched his arms. — We'll show that effin' Kamoshida.

-We will. — Ren said, starting to enter the keywords with Ryuji on the Metaverse Navigator.

At the same time, Ann was watching them from a certain distance, listening to their conversation.

-They really are going to do something… They're doing something on their phone? A name… School?

She was surprised by the distortion of the surroundings, as the world around her started to change. Ren, Ryuji and Morgana looked the school one last time, seeing the place disappear, as the form of a medieval castle appeared in place of the modern building.

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

Hello guys, Galaxy here. First, I want to thank you guys for read my story and all the follows, comments and favorites. You guys rocks and I'm grateful for you being patient with me. Those last weeks I was sick, I got Covid, and I had issues to write the story and not only that, I had to keep both my stories grammatically correct and to update then is not only tough at that state, but tiring, so I took much more time to update it. About the Kamoshida's trial, I'm revising and rewriting to keep the personality of the characters, make the trial interesting and intense and specially to bring Sae and Ren as they truly are. I love the fact Sae despite the fact of being ruthless in her methods, she's fights for justice and she truly believes in justice as well like Ren and especially like Phoenix, and I want for her being like that in court too. At the same time, I want to bring Ren not only as himself as a person, but show the contrast of him being a lawyer. His personality as a Phantom Thief is clear, he's reckless, ruthless, truly a rebel person who is tired of that and he's fight against the corruption of society and of the powerful ones, but at the same time, he's fight for justice and he's truly believes in people and they can change, despite in the case of the corrupted ones, he cause the changes of them. The fact he's a lawyer shows a side of him using that broken system to prove the innocence of people and fight for justice, because his also believes in that. He's not a person who ran away from the problems, from his fears, instead he fought against it, he fights for what is right, and he looks for the truth, like Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. That's why he's like both, possessing not only their best traits, but his possesses his best and worse traits as well, and I want to show that side of him for you guys. As well I want to bring that side of Sae too. That's why I wanted to remade "Ren Amamiya Ace Attorney", because of that possibility, of that point of view he doesn't see in Persona 5. And I'm not only want to bring that view, I want as well do my best for it, to bring the best story I can made, and to always improve myself for that.

If you guys like the story, please follow, favorite and comment. If you want, please share with your friends if you think this story is worth to being read. Thank you for reading my story once again, and we'll see again on the next chapter.
