April 25. Monday. 13:00

Tokyo District Court

Defendant Lobby No. 3

— —

-Where in the world is Amamiya? — Mishima asked impatiently, looking at the lobby door.

-Calm down, man. He's coming as we're speakin'. — Ryuji answered, annoyed by the other teenager's behavior.

Both were waiting in the defendant's lobby, trying to stay calm. At that point, the only thought Mishima has in his mind is how he got himself into this situation. After the interrogation he had with Gumshoe, he discovered he will be judged in a trial, a real one. Frightened after hearing that, but after being convinced by Ryuji nothing will happen to them since Ren and Ryuji themselves have a plan to solve this. However, at that moment Mishima was not entirely sure about Ren and Ryuji's plan. Snapping his attention between Ryuji and the lobby door, the short dark blue-haired high schooler sat down, grunting annoyed.

-Honestly, I didn't expect to be here… We shouldn't be here.

-Be more confident, man. We're gonna win this shit.

-I don't know how you can be so confident, even now. We're really close to losing our lives and you're here, calm as hell, unlike other times… — Mishima sighed again. — And now Amamiya is late! He doesn't know we actually screwed enough?

-If I don't know, I probably shouldn't be here right now?

Ren said once he went inside the lobby. He walked calmly and with a professional posture, something that caught the other two teenager's attention.

-Sorry if I'm late, but the traffic hasn't been helpful lately. — Ren explained.

-Don't worry, is just Mishima freakin' out… — Ryuji replied

-Hey! At least I'm the only one who sees the real threat of the situation. — Mishima explained.

-I know what we are going to deal with, so you should calm yourself now. There's no point in getting panicked at this point. — Ren warned.

-Easy for you to say, since you already… and why are you dressed like that…? — Mishima asked, confused after noticing Ren's clothes. Adjusting his tie, the young attorney stared at Mishima, aware of his reaction.

- Well, since I'm the defense attorney of this case, I must be dressed in the attire for my job.

-Oh, you should be dressed because of your job? Fine, now explain… Wait, what did you say?

-I said, I'm the defense attorney of this case.

-What!? — Mishima yelled, frightened. Trembling in despair, he grabbed Ren by his blazer. — It's not the time for jokes!

-I'm not joking. If you paid attention to my suit, you can see my attorney badge on the lapel. And besides, what kind of normal teenager would wear a fancy suit like this?

Mishima saw the badge and he was even more surprised. Sweating a lot, he tried to keep himself calm. On other hand, Ren was avoiding making any comment in that situation, while he fixed his outfit. He knows how Mishima is, and he has the consciousness to not make things even worse. Ryuji scratched his head nervously.

-He's right… — Ryuji answered and snapped to Ren. — How was your stuff?

-It went well, although I bet the police and even the prosecutor possesses some evidence I haven't found or I have overlooked. In any case, I'm expecting anything in this case. We are lucky because I was able to convince them to solve this in court.

-If you say so… Wait, so you…? — Mishima asked, finally understanding the situation.

-Yes, I'm the one who moved that trial, remember?

-Okay, so you did all of this? — Ren nodded in confirmation, answering Mishima. — Now, we're officially screwed! How are we going to get out of this!?

-Calm down. I can get us out of this.

-First, how? Second, did you think they're going to believe you're an attorney!?

Ren smiled calmly, adjusting his glasses.

-Answering first the second question, they have to, because I'm officially the lead lawyer assigned for this case as the defense, and I'm going to find a way and fight until the end. I know we're innocent, and that I'm going to prove it. Mishima, I know I can do it, there is no way Kamoshida can get out of this. He's going to pay. I'm going to make sure of that.

Mishima remained silent. For him it was impressive how Ren was so calm in this situation.

-How can you be so calm and sure?

Ren sat down on the sofa and checked the evidence he gathered. Morgana was laughing mentally, avoiding making any sounds. Despite Ren's warnings, he convinced the young defense attorney to bring him to watch the trial, but he has to avoid calling everyone's attention. For Ren, the weekend was important for checking information and even asking for details about the case. Keeping his calm smile, he only said.

-Because, I fight for justice and truth, and for the ones who can't defend themselves. And, believe me, or not, I'm tired of that. Although, I know my duty as a lawyer, of what I can or can't do, and I won't do whatever I want just to get a not guilty plea. We have to be accurate with the information we have to reach the "truth" and to make a fair trial and bring justice.

-Easy for you to say. — Mishima said sarcastically.

-True. It's easy to say, but not to do it. However, what's the meaning of having courts and lawyers, if we can solve this easily? The world is far more complex than we thought, but there is some simplicity in the middle of this complexity. It's my duty as a lawyer to see between all of that clearly to reach the truth. Don't worry about that. Just relax; after all, I'm the one who needs to prove our innocence.

-Good luck, because from what I heard we're really screwed. — Mishima said tiredly to both him and Ryuji, Ren chuckled.

-Honestly, where's the fun if it isn't? Since the prosecutor of this case is Sae Niijima. — Ren commented excitedly. — I'm finally going to meet her.

-Niijima, damn... — Mishima said, depressed. — Do you have any more surprises for us?

-Well… Is it going to help to say my mentors are Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth…?

Mishima's eyes widened even more after hearing that. At that point, Ren snickered, expecting that. Gumshoe went inside the defendant's lobby.

-Hey, pal, there you are. Here, the evidence you asked for. — Gumshoe said handling to Ren the evidence.

-Thank you, detective.

Gumshoe exited the place and Ren started to examine the evidence, reading his notes again to aid him in his analysis.

"Well, this is it. I'm dealing with my first case all on my own, without any aid. This time, I need to fight with everything I have, so there is no room for mistakes. I can only imagine how this trial is going to go. At times like this, I need to remember all the lessons my mentors taught me and use everything I got to my advantage." Looking at the hours on his smartphone, Ren stood up and walked to the door.

-I'll see you guys in court. "It's showtime!"

April 25, Monday.

Tokyo District Court. Courtroom Noº 4

13:30

— —

The public was staring to the scene was happening in the courtroom. Against all the expectations of everyone, the image of the black-haired teenager with glasses on the defense bench and of one of the most famous prosecutors of Tokyo and maybe even of Japan was there to deal with that specific case was blown up their expectations of a common cause. At the same time, Ryuji and Mishima became nervous from seeing the famous prosecutor in person, who also was the relative of one of the students of the Shujin Academy. That information was common knowledge to all of them back at Shujin, and her reputation was enough to put fear in them, due to the situation they are in, but despite all these facts, Ren was there, standing calm and composed as always. To Ryuji it was almost like Ren was back in the Kamoshida's Palace, but he was also a bit different. He was relaxed, totally free from the gentleman thief character, as if he was in his own home, and he knew what to do. Despite Ren's nervousness, his posture was telling the opposite. Standing on the bench, with one of his hands inside his pocket and the other one on the bench, fully erected, Ren was standing in place in the stance of someone who had no doubts on what he was doing. Mishima becomes surprised after seeing that scene, starting to wonder how it was going to end. As for the lawyers in the place, Ren was surprised to finally meet the famous Sae Niijima, at the same time he was admired for how the description of her was totally precise. Her attitude in court was a hint to Ren to get into a tough battle, which makes him smile mentally. At the same time, he was nervous due to the person he going to fight against it. If all he heard was right, he can only expect a nightmare to start. As for Sae, she was surprised to see her suspicions confirmed, and to have her expectations broken by the teenager on the other side. She was surprised to see Ren there, dressed according to his role, his attorney's badge shining locked on his suit, and his attitude in court. For a brief moment, she could swear he was a young adult with an odd young appearance, but she knows he was only a teenager, but not an ordinary one. Looking carefully, she noticed some traits of Phoenix and Miles, making her smile. It was an odd feeling which made everything familiar. The chatter of the public stopped when the Judge hit the gavel.

-The court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Yuuki Mishima, Mr. Ryuji Sakamoto, and Mr. Ren Amamiya. — Said the Judge.

-The prosecutor is ready, your Honor. — Sae answered.

-The defense is ready, your Honor. — Ren answered.

The Judge stared at Ren for brief seconds in surprise before ask:

-Prosecutor Niijima, before we start the proceedings… I need to ask, why is this teenager on the defense's bench? Is he not one of the defendants in this case?

-Yes, he is. I'm asking that to myself as well, your Honor. — Sae replied politely.

-Care to explain yourself, Mr. Amamiya? — Asked the Judge, with a serious frown.

-Your Honor, I do understand your reason for your doubts about me, as well the prosecutor's doubts as well. To answer that issue, I decided to reclaim the right to defend myself in court, as well as defend the other two defendants involved in this trial as suspects.

-But you are much too young for that. Can you at least tell us the reason behind that decision?

-Certainly, your Honor. Although I would have preferred to ask for the aid of one of my mentors, due to the circumstances of ours, I decided to assume the role of the defense in this trial. And there are another few reasons behind this, as the Prosecutor is aware. At least one of them.

-Can you tell us this specific reason, Prosecutor Niijima?

-Of course. The defendant who assumed the defense of this case was the one who asked to solve this in a trial, here in this courtroom.

The public started to comment on that.

-Well, I suppose that is a detail we can hear in the opening statement. Now, Mr. Amamiya, can you answer a few questions?

-Of course, your Honor.

-Why did you ask to solve this in court?

-Despite my age and condition, I asked because I wanted to solve everything here, and I didn't have a choice. There are other motives, but they are personal ones. That doesn't concern this case, at least not now.

-I see… Now, can you tell me when you obtained your badge?

-Certainly. I passed the bar exam several months ago when I was sixteen.

-Sixteen!? — The public exalted and the Judge hit his gavel to keep the order. — That means…

-Yes. I'm a fresh attorney. That is the second case in my career.

-Impressive! Can I actually look at your…?

Ren nodded and gave the Judge his attorney's badge. The judge checked his badge and nodded in approval.

-That is an official attorney's badge! Oh my… these young people nowadays… — The Judge commented, surprised, returning Ren his badge in the process. — Can I ask you something, Mr. Amamiya?

-Of course, your Honor.

-You said you prefer to have the aid of one of your mentors. Care to tell who your mentors are?

-Yes. My mentors are the Chief Prosecutor of Los Angeles and the International Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth and the International Defense Attorney Phoenix Wright.

-You mean the Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth!?

-Yes, your Honor.

Everyone started to comment again and to Ren's surprise, Sae was the most surprised after she heard Ren's claim.

-So, you really are their apprentice. That's why you are so familiar, you got some traits from them, especially from him. — She commented with a smile, realizing why she had that Déjà vu feeling.

-Honestly, despite the fact I wasn't expecting you to be the prosecutor of this case, I have to say, it is a great pleasure and an honor to meet and to fight against you in court, Prosecutor Niijima. Chief Nick told me a lot about you.

-It's my pleasure too. Did he tell you something more than just my reputation? — The platinum-haired prosecutor asked.

-Only the necessary. As we know, he's a discrete person, that is until he needs to find out about something or someone. And your personal life is not of my concern.

-Looks like you two share that trait as well. — Sae answered with a small smile. — And how is the Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth?

-He's doing good, although that is not the subject we are dealing with here today.

-Agreed.

The public chatter becomes intense again. The Judge hit the gavel to silence everyone.

-Prosecutor Niijima, did you know the defense's mentors?

-Yes. I worked with them in a case years ago. I have to say I'm surprised at them accepting someone so young as their apprentice. This is a great coincidence to end in that way…

-In fact, that is a great coincidence… — The Judge commented. — Now, your opening statement, Prosecutor Niijima.

-Of course. On the date of April 15, around 10:00 AM, the victim of this case, Shiho Suzui attempted to take her own life. She jumped the rooftop of the Shujin Academy, the school she attends. The witnesses that noticed her presence in that location were some students and teachers, who saw her by the classroom's windows. According to their testimony, she crossed the safety grade and stood on the edge of the place for a minute before she jumped.

-Oh my! She really did that?

-Yes.

-And she died from the fall?

-No, your Honor. She survived the fall, although, due to the impact and her wounds, she fell in a state of comatose. The biopsy record explains in detail her actual condition and the multiple traumas over her body.

-I see… The court accepts that as evidence. Now, she did that out of the blue. Did she have a motive for that?

-At first, the police didn't identify anything related to her suicide attempt. But due to an anonymous source, we found the link between the victim and the defendants. According to the source, they claimed the defendants inflicted and induced Ms. Shiho Suzui to take an attempt on her own life.

"So, he really did it… Now the battle starts…"

-So, that is the situation. Now, why was the defense asked to solve this in court?

-Well, according to the witness, who told me about this case, the defense claimed for his right to defend himself in court, and he convinced them to do this. He even agreed to confirm the deal. Here's one of the copies.

-Oh! — The Judge said surprised, reading the contract with curiosity.

"He looks really surprised by that…" Ren commented mentally, seeing the curiosity of the middle-aged man.

-That is an elaborated and incredibly constructed contract. That is a surprising thing due to the defense's age.

-That surprised me as well. I wasn't expecting to see something of this at this level made by someone so young.

-I'll accept this as evidence as well.

-You made an agreement just for that!? — Mishima asked in disbelief from the defendant's chair and Ren just smiled in satisfaction.

-Mr. Amamiya, I want to know why you went so far to solve this in court? — The Judge asked.

-Well, due to the other reasons, in my opinion, if I'm the suspect of a crime like that, and I can't defend myself, it is only fair to me to appeal the law. And since I decided to do this, it is only fair for me to say I don't have the intention to hide anything. But I'm aware I might have committed mistakes, but my only intention is to solve this, your Honor, nothing more and nothing less. That's my objective.

-I see… Well, since that is your intention, we should start establishing the events of that day. Prosecutor Niijima, if you please.

-Yes. As my first witness, I call the detective headed for this case, Mr. Richard Gumshoe please take the witness stand.

Gumshoe, after a few minutes, entered the courtroom, going straight to the witness stand. Once he stood there, he looked around and stared at the Judge.

-Witness, please state to court your name and occupation. — Sae said.

-Name is Dick Gumshoe. I'm a detective from Los Angeles, recently promoted to International Affairs, now in training here. — Gumshoe answered and turned to Ren. — Hey, pal! Even if you are protected by Chief Edgeworth, we're gonna find you guilty! Do you hear me! Today we win!

Ren, Sae, Ryuji, and Mishima sighed, the lawyers in disappointment and the teenagers in uneas. The detective was laughing when he noticed the expression of the people in court.

-Really? — Ren asked.

-Do you know him? — The Judge and Sae asked, truly surprised.

-Yes… He helped my mentors during my training in some cases… And he arrested me a few times… without any proof or any strong relation. That was an issue I am still trying to solve…

"What type of detective is that!?" That was the thought of Ryuji, and Mishima, while Sae sighed in disappointment.

-However, that is not the matter here, besides, you are here to testify and explain the details of the events of the day in question. For the sake of everyone here inside this court, please put your personal issues and convictions aside and do your job. — Sae said, scolding the detective.

The detective grunted feeling upset and disappointed with himself.

-Now, can you tell us more of what happened on that day? — The Judge asked.

-Sure, pal! — Gumshoe answered and he started his testimony. — The victim went to school normally, like always. Despite everyone's thoughts, she managed to get out of the classroom in the changing of classes without calling anyone's attention. With that, she waited to walk to the other building of the place. The high school they attend is the Shujin Academy. The place is divided into two big buildings, the Class Building and the Practice Building. She went to the Practice Building rooftop during the middle of class. She crossed the safety of the fence and jumped. There are a lot of witnesses who saw that.

After hearing Gumshoe's testimony, the Judge went silent for a moment, processing the information.

-Well, this case sounds like was only a suicide attempt.

-Yes. Although, we need to know more about this incident. — Ren commented calmly.

-I must agree with the defense. We need to ensure the facts of this case. — Sae said.

-Yes. Very well, now Mr. Amamiya is in time for the cross-examination. — The Judge said.

-Err… Ren.

The Judge turns his attention to Ryuji.

-Something wrong, Mr. Sakamoto? — The Judge asked.

-Is just… What's cross-examination? — The blonde punk asked. Mishima shook his head in disappointment.

-Sakamoto! — Mishima scolded, but Ren just nodded, making both quiet.

-Ryuji, to summarize what I am going to do in a simple way, Cross-examination is the moment I ask for the witness information and I point out the lies and/or strange points. Contradictions.

-Oh… I get it. — Ryuji said, a little embarrassed.

-Why did you ask? — Mishima asked.

-I don't know what this is! What should I do? — Ryuji asked.

-Well, watch to see what it is?

"Am I actually dealing with two teenagers or with two kids!?" It was Ren's thought about that situation.

-Ignoring the little argument of the other defendants, you can proceed, Mr. Amamiya.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren closed his eyes for a brief moment and saw a written record of Gumshoe's testimony. — Okay. First, can you give more details of how the victim managed to get onto the rooftop without calling the attention of anyone in that school?

-Of course, pal! She did that by just asking to go to the bathroom to get out of the place.

-She just asked to go to the bathroom? — Ren asked, already knowing where the argument was going to lead.

-Yes. She said she needed to go there…

Ren became bothered by hearing that.

-Well, since she gave an excuse to get out of her classroom, she could say anything at that moment. Are you sure she said she needs to go to the bathroom?

-Well… I…

-Mr. Gumshoe, did the victim say that? — Asked the Judge.

-Well, I heard from some of her classmates that she had said an excuse to go out in the middle of the class at the time. — Gumshoe answered a little down.

"Why am I not surprised…" Ren sighed.

-Detective, I should say you need to be precise and to avoid any unnecessary issues and details. You are testifying in court, so you need to do your job properly. — Sae said, scolding the giant detective again. He groaned in self-disappointment.

-Besides, I don't need to tell you that if you make any mistakes that are going to cause issues in the trial proceedings, Prosecutor Niijima is going to talk with your superior to talk about your monthly pay. — Ren said, annoyed, scolding as well. — Now, since you can't prove she gave an excuse, can you say what more you heard? We need these details to figure how the victim was able to escape in the middle of the class.

-Okay… — Gumshoe said bothered and took a deep breath. — Another group of students commented they had seen her walking to the nurse's office before the class started. Some tell the same, but they said she went out of the classroom between the change of teachers. That's all I heard about how she managed to get out of her classroom.

-Okay. Now, please explain more about the Shujin Academy and the school structure, for the court record. — Ren asked.

-I thought you already know since you are a student from there. — Gumshoe retorted.

-That's your job, and I actually was transferred to that school recently. Barely two weeks.

-That's not enough time for you to know the place? — The detective asked.

-Yes, but since I asked you about that, and you are actually the one in cross-examination and the detective, in this case, you should give to us in court the information and details to accurately assess the events of the day in question.

-But you are a student from there, pal…

Ren slammed the stand.

-Detective, you are the one who should explain the facts you discovered in your investigation! — Ren scolded irritated. — Now, answer the question!

-Fine… — Gumshoe answered sadly, grumbling something. Ryuji and Mishima were surprised by Ren's action. — The high school has two buildings. The main one, known as Class Building, is where the class happens and the Practice Building when the gymnasium and the clubs have a place. Unlike the other high schools, the year class's locations are reversed. That means the third-year class is on the first floor and the first year is on the third floor.

-According to what I saw, the Practice Building is located in most of the clubrooms as well.

-Yes, even the Volleyball Team and the Sports Teams are there. The clubs are located in the Practice Building, although the most active Team is the Volleyball Team aside from the other sports teams.

-I heard the Shujin Volleyball Team went to nationals, the pride of that institution. Especially that was made by the team coach — The Judge commented.

-Although, that's not relevant now. I suppose the victim impressively called the attention… — Sae said calmly.

-True… No one thought what she was gonna do that day. She crossed the safety fence without anyone noticing at the time…

Ren remembering the events, he tried to keep his focus, linking all the information he possessed with the detective testimony.

-I suppose we are unable to determine how she did that. I thought the Shujin Academy had at least some security level to avoid that type of incident. — Ren commented.

-True. The Shujin Academy is an educational institution of great prestige. This unfortunate incident is a priority of the situation and should be avoided in any place. — The prosecutor answered.

-True. Detective, I suppose that's all, right? Or are there any other details we don't know yet?

-Well… There were a few things off at first, pal… But with the witness testimony, we reach the fact you're the culprit of that! — Gumshoe yelled furiously, stepping the ground.

-Calm down, we are just starting the trial… — Ren commented slightly bothered. — Now, I suppose we need to hear about the connection between the victim and us. Can you explain that to us, right?

-Course, pal! That was an issue we had at first.

-An issue…? Enlighten me, if you please. — Ren asked, confused.

-Yes. The story about you three doesn't have any type of connection, but since you all have some links, we certainly found you're the only ones who should have done this to her.

-I see… Can you give us more details about it, detective? — The Judge asked.

-Sure. That started after you arrived at the Shujin Academy for the first time. — Gumshoe pointed at Ren with anger. — You have met the other defendant, Ryuji Sakamoto on the way to the high school. After you two threaten some of the students and even a teacher, you two with the aid of the third person, convinced the victim to take her own life!

Ren, keeping his calm, looked to Ryuji and Mishima. Both are reacting in their respective ways, one trying to stay calm and the other feeling too anxious. With a calm smile, he nodded to both to keep their composure.

-That is a serious accusation, Detective. Despite the facts, we still have a lack of information. Now, Mr. Amamiya, if you can do the cross-examination. — The Judge said.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren closed his eyes for a second and then he snapped his attention to Gumshoe. — Detective, can you give more details about the first time I went to the Shujin Academy?

-According to the Principal, he said you went with your guardian on the day in question. You two were finishing signing the school transferal documents for you. You had some issues finding a new school. — Gumshoe said.

-He even said about your criminal record and your probation. That is not a good thing for anyone, especially someone of your age. — Sae commented calmly.

-Is that correct, Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.

-Yes, your Honor. I'm currently on probation due to an incident almost a year ago. That even affected my progression in my old school. — Ren answered.

-You should know that it even affects your condition as a lawyer.

Ren nodded in affirmative.

-I know that well, your Honor. That's why I was avoiding recurring to the legal system until I paid my debt to society. But as I said before, in this situation I was forced to solve this in court.

-So, that's why... — Sae said.

-Yes. Like I said before, I have nothing to hide, and as for my actions and the actions of the other defendants, that should be seen during this process. Now detective, tell me: Despite that, there is something more about that day in question?

-Well… According to the Principal, you stayed quiet all the time, only answering when you were called. Nothing more. — Gumshoe explained.

-I see… "That's leading to nowhere…"

-After that, on the next day, you and Mr. Sakamoto met each other when you went to Shujin Academy.

-Okay… Can you tell me more details about that? — Ren asked.

-Well… — Gumshoe scratched his head nervously. — According to some teachers, you two arrived together. You seem kinda lost and Mr. Sakamoto was saying things out of place.

-Something more about that?

-Two officers met you two before you went together to the high school. Mr. Sakamoto was screaming nervously and saying some strange things. They suspected you two were carrying drugs.

-According to them, you two seemed disoriented, almost you had some type of experience. — Sae said. — I suppose you have an answer for that.

-Yes. On the day in question, there were some factors that caused our late arrival. — Ren took a long breath and toyed with the lock of his hair again. — Well… First, the map app on my phone crashed and I lost my way after I arrived at the station.

-What!? — The Judge and Gumshoe asked. Ren toyed even more; something Sae quickly noticed.

-Yes…and things quickly got worse, I had problems sleeping and once I met Mr. Sakamoto, we got lost on our way to the high school.

-Mr. Sakamoto, I should ask why you got lost with Mr. Amamiya? — Sae asked seriously. — Otherwise, your case is going into a situation even worse than before.

-Well… I was kinda sleepy, out of place that day. I didn't sleep well that day. And I woke up late too…

Sae's expression changes, showing her disappointment due to their story.

-When we found our way, the officers found us. I was daydreaming at that time...

Everyone went silent after that. Ren was bothered due to the situation.

-I've seen weird things over my whole career, but something like it was truly a surprise for me. — She commented calmly.

-Well… Imagine what I have to deal with in my training… — Ren muttered to himself. — I'm so embarrassed… This is something that shouldn't happen in court… Neither in real life…

-I see… — The Judge commented. Everything went silent again. — Prosecutor Niijima? Are you not going to object to that?

-Asking for proof of that is not relevant. And situations like that could happen.

-Mr. Amamiya…? — The Judge asked nervously.

-Your Honor… If I could say… There's even a witness to corroborate my testimony, as well, Mr. Sakamoto's testimony. So… Make questions about that… Is kind of irrelevant, and… Issues like that could happen… So, I don't have objections at this point… My deepest apologies about this… — Ren said shyly.

Everyone went silent after that.

-Here, the testimony of the officers on that day in question. They confirm that, although they suspected they used any illicit substances, both Mr. Amamiya and Mr. Sakamoto haven't shown any type of symptoms of using that though, and there are no reports about that. — Sae stated, presenting the officer's statement.

-I see… I accept that as evidence. — The Judge said. — I think that was a bad day for you, Mr. Amamiya.

-Yes. You don't need to remind me though… — Ren said, remembering the events in the Kamoshida Palace. — I think that lifts any suspicions about us…

-Yes… Me too. Now Detective Gumshoe, you can tell us more about the threats both Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Amamiya did. And about this third person.

-Of course, sir! — Gumshoe said with a huge smile. — According to the testimony from some students and teachers, they threatened some students in the volleyball rally, an exclusive event for the volleyball team, as well as a few exhibition games that happened between the students and the teachers. Mr. Mishima, one of the defendants is a member of the volleyball team and got hit accidentally by the P.E Teacher, Mr. Suguru Kamoshida in one of the games. The teachers took him and sent him to the nurse's office. Some of his teammates said he doesn't have good skills and even after training, he doesn't improve with the rest of the team. Mr. Mishima with the aid of Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Amamiya decided to take revenge toward the P.E Teacher and attacked Ms. Suzui!

-Hold it! Detective Gumshoe! I should warn you once again if you are going to make these serious accusations, you better have some evidence to hold your claim. — Ren warned.

-Well, some students saw you two talking with him! And saw you going to Mr. Kamoshida's office. — Gumshoe said.

-We were talking with a lot of people Detective, and you should know I talked with Ms. Kawakami these days. You should bring relevant points, or at least evidence to support your claims.

-But pal, Mr. Kamoshida accused you of your behavior.

Everyone started to comment once again, and the Judge hit the gavel once again.

-Order! Detective, you're saying the person who told you about Mr. Amamiya, Mr. Sakamoto, and Mr. Mishima was Mr. Kamoshida?

-Yes sir! He was the one who told us about the defendants.

The Judge went silent.

-Hmm… That's weird. I thought he was warned by the police. — The Judge said.

-He did that sir, but the suspect asked to solve this in court.

Everyone started to comment again.

-Mr. Amamiya… — The Judge said seriously.

-Your Honor, before you jump to conclusions, I should say, if I wanted to avoid any of this, we would not be here today, am I wrong? — Ren asked.

-Well no. But your behavior is actually suspicious. — The Judge retorted.

-It's actually suspicious too, the fact a case of an innocent person who tried to attempt to take her own life wasn't being helped by the school staff, as well other rumors haven't been investigated as well. — Ren said with an acid tone.

-You don't have any right to say that pal! — Gumshoe shouted.

-That applies to you as well as a detective due to the mistakes you had committed. — Ren commented, annoyed. Gumshoe gulped.

-True, the case in question is surrounded by a lot of mysteries and suspicions, but I can't see why the defendant is directly related to this case at all. — The Judge said.

Sae smiled and threw a lock of her hair to her shoulder.

-I believe that's related to the next point. Detective, can you tell what happened after the rescue of Ms. Suzui. — Sae ordered.

-Of course, sir! — Gumshoe said with his huge smile. — After Ms. Suzui jumped, both Mr. Amamiya and Mr. Sakamoto went after Mr. Mishima. Then Mr. Sakamoto went running to the P.E Facility Office to threaten Mr. Kamoshida, being followed by his accomplices. After that Mr. Amamiya threatened him and threatened other students.

The public started to talk loudly.

-Objection! — Ren adjusted his glasses. — I determine if that claim from Mr. Kamoshida is irrelevant at this point of the trial. We are here to determine if the defendants had relation to Ms. Suzui's suicide attempt, and not about supposed threats towards one of the teachers.

-Honestly, I've to agree with Mr. Amamiya to some extent. — Sae answered calmly. — I expected you to hit that point later…

-Unlike people thought about Chief Nick, he and I can see when something is relevant or not according to the case, unlike some people I know… And that's not relevant now.

-True. In the matter of details, Mr. Wright is always someone who notices when something is wrong, even the small details. However, I do believe that point is relevant to this case. Well. Mr. Gumshoe, please now talk about how Mr. Kamoshida obtained the information about Mr. Amamiya and Mr. Sakamoto, and Mr. Mishima's involvement. — The Judge ordered.

-Okay, sir! — Gumshoe said with a proud smile. — According to Mr. Kamoshida, you had met Ms. Suzui the day before her suicide attempt. Then you marked her as your target with him and abused her!

The public went into havoc after hearing that. The Judge hit his gavel.

-Order. Order in court. Mr. Gumshoe, your claim is too grave. Are you sure—

-I'm sure, pal! I have talked with him personally. — Gumshoe said interrupting the Judge.

-Hold it! That's simply baseless conjecture, without evidence is not just conjecture. — Ren said,

-But we do have evidence. — Sae claimed.

-What…?

-Ms. Ayumi Suzui gave me the evidence. — Gumshoe showed a photo of Shiho's clothes.

-Is that…

-The victim's clothes. There's evidence of sexual aggression.

The public started to comment that once again as Ren flinched surprised.

"So, that's her game, huh…"

-Mr. Amamiya…

-Your Honor, as much as I understand my situation, I don't understand what makes this claim valid. There is no evidence behind it. But if the detective agrees, I will give my sample of DNA to Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Mishima to rid any suspicion towards me and my clients. As I said before, I don't have anything to hide.

-Well… I don't have any evidence about that as you mentioned, so I don't need it now…

-Very well.

-But out of curiosity, have the doctors treating Ms. Suzui find traces of DNA?

-No, your Honor. Although they found many wounds and scars around her whole body. Clearly signs of aggression.

-And who caused it?

-His or their identity is unknown, your Honor. The full results will be released this afternoon. — Sae answered, bothered as well. The public started to comment once again, directing their gazes to Ren, Ryuji, and Mishima.

"Well, I know who was responsible, although I doubt that isn't going to be easy… Time to work."

-Detective, before you send your testimony, I wish to know one more thing.

-Sure pal, go on.

-Detective. According to the biopsy report, she suffered many physical traumas, including from an unknown blunt object. Did you find that mysterious object?

-No. We tried to look at every single point of the high school, but we couldn't find it.

-Thank you. I hoped you could find it… — Ren said, checking the biopsy report.

-Mr. Gumshoe, you can go now. — Sae said, adjusting the bangs of her hair. — As for the next witness, I call the principal of the Shujin Academy, Mr. Kobayakawa.

-Very well. Bailiff, call the next witness to the stand.

The Bailiff went out of the courtroom. After that five minutes later, Kobayakawa went inside the courtroom, taking his place on the witness stand.

-Name and occupation, please. — Sae asked.

-I'm Mr. Hiroshi Kobayakawa. My occupation is the position of the principal of the Shujin Academy. — He snapped his attention to Ren. — And why is he standing here?

-I'm the lead attorney on this case if you didn't know. — Ren answered Kobayakawa. — I thought you already knew that.

-What!? Is this a joke!?

-Mr. Kobayakawa, I assure you. That's not a joke. He's the defense attorney of this case. — Sae answered.

-…What…?

-You should know already because I'm the one who made that agreement you signed. — Ren said.

Kobayakawa started to sweat in nervousness.

-I demand this trial be interrupted at this instant and order the bailiffs to arrest this insolent boy right now. He can't be the attorney of this case. — Kobayakawa demanded.

Sae sighed, and shook his head in negative.

-He's the lead attorney assigned for this case. He's the one who made that agreement. — Sae explained.

-I thought the agreement said no one of us could intervene in the trial. — Kobayakawa questioned furiously.

-He hasn't intervened in the legal process. However, as the lead attorney, he had the permission to investigate the crime scene and to interrogate people related to the case. It's written in the agreement. — Sae showed the agreement and Kobayakawa clenched his fists.

-Amamiya… You… You Honor, Ms. Niijima. I demand the annulment of this contract. It's not a legal proceeding, nor legal power.

-I'm sorry to turn down your expectations Mr. Kobayakawa, but I can assure you: The agreement we made is legal and it possesses real validation as a document, not only that I can assure you it's legal.

-But you have said your lawyer had made that. — Kobayakawa said.

-No, I never said such a thing. — Ren answered. — As an attorney, I haven't lied. It is not my fault if you haven't asked for more information about my situation. Besides, it was you who agreed with our agreement.

Kobayakawa became furious after hearing that.

-Your Honor…

-I have to agree with Mr. Amamiya. It's not his fault. Besides, I think he was clear when he said he can defend himself. — The Judge stated.

-Ms. Niijima… — Kobayakawa begged.

-I agree as well. I had read the whole contract, and there are no flaws in it. It's fair and square and doesn't give for any of the sides any disadvantages as was written. You should have asked him clearly if you needed to know who's going to represent both Mr. Amamiya, Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Mishima. It was a lack of attention that almost cost you your job if Mr. Amamiya decided to set up on you. — Sae answered.

Ren smiled mentally, seeing how Kobayakawa reacted to his move. The overweight man grumbled as he gave a threatening glance to Ren.

-Well, I should ask you what happened on the day of the question. — The Judge said.

-About, Ms. Suzui suicide attempt. My, what a horrible day. — Kobayakawa said.

"It's horrible to see how false you can be." Ren thought disgustedly.

-Can you tell us about that? — Sae asked.

-Yes, I can. — Kobayakawa cleared his throat and started his testimony. — On the day of the crime, Ms. Suzui was acting stranger than usual. After she jumped, I realized she tried to take her own life because of a dreadful reason. I took my measures to discover who was behind this. Then I found it was you three because Mr. Sakamoto decided to take revenge upon an innocent girl after what happened to him.

Kobayakawa stopped his testimony, then he looked to Ryuji, but unlike he expected, he was contained, looking to Ren.

-Well, that's too disturbing. Mr. Amamiya, your cross-examination, please.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren took a deep breath then he stared at Mr. Kobayakawa. — Please repeat your testimony.

-Very well. On the day of the crime, Ms. Suzui was acting stranger than usual.

-Hold it! What do you mean by that? How is her usual behavior? — Ren asked.

-She was acting more quietly than usual. Her mood is way down than I usually see from her.

-So, she looked depressed. — Ren concluded.

-It seems like. Usually, she was quiet, but I noticed she became quieter. Perhaps, because someone arrived at Shujin Academy. — Kobayakawa provoked.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, if you possess some accusation to make, I recommend that you think carefully about that, otherwise, I have to ask the Judge to penalize you.

-It's that a threat? — Kobayakawa asked.

-No, just a warning. Is that too disturbing for you? — Ren retorted.

-No, but is rather funny, for someone who possesses a criminal record.

Ryuji's face twisted in anger, but he restrained himself with Ren's help.

-You better behave your tone, or else…

-Hold it! — Sae interrupted. — Perhaps I need to remind you Mr. Amamiya, only the Judge can penalize people here. You better not rely on your mentor's reputation on that one.

Ren smiled at Sae.

-Yes, I know that well… "Unfortunately, there are certain prosecutors who don't care about the rules." — Ren thought to himself. — Please continue your testimony.

-After she jumped, I realized she tried to take her own life because of a dreadful reason. — Kobayakawa stated.

-Hold it! — Ren put his hand on his mouth, thoughtful. — Although I want to say that it can be a little too difficult and even I want to ask, what makes you think that?

-Well, perhaps it was because of certain people who had some reputation in the Shujin.

-Maybe it was just a coincidence that happened when I arrived at Shujin. Perhaps it is something related before I arrive at the Shujin Academy. It's more plausible after all.

-Well, I really doubt it was just a coincidence. It was you, I'm sure of it!

"I'm sure it wasn't, you're an accomplice after all."

-But as long as you have no proof to support your claim, it is just baseless conjecture.

-Needless to remind you, we still have Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Mishima's motives as well. The supposed crime also includes both, and I do believe Mr. Kobayakawa can explain that to us. If you please, you can continue Mr. Kobayakawa.

-I took measures to discover who was behind this.

-Hold it! I'm sorry, but what type of measures did you take to discover who is supposedly behind this?

-Everything in my power to prove who is the culprit.

-I see… Everything? — Ren asked.

-Yes. I'm the principal of the Shujin Academy after all, and I deeply care about my students.

"As if"

-Okay. Please continue.

-Then I found it was you three because Mr. Sakamoto decided to take revenge upon an innocent girl after what happened to him.

-Hold it! I'm sorry once again, but I can't see the point of all of that was moved by revenge, especially from Mr. Sakamoto. — Ren commented.

-Well, I can see, because you possess a criminal record, and the whole school knows about it, and Mr. Mishima had issues with Mr. Kamoshida as well. — Sae rebutted. — Besides, I need to remind you the evidence we have in possession indicates you three have enough reason for that.

-Well, I still don't see the point, since I don't have reason to get revenge, especially Mr. Sakamoto.

-It wasn't obvious? Sakamoto has been expelled from the Track Team and he's the main reason for the dissolution of the team as well. Due to his violent behavior, he ruined one of the best sports teams of the Shujin Academy.

-Violent behavior? — Ren asked.

-Yes. He always acted violently with everyone. Especially with Mr. Kamoshida.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, you better behave yourself. There's no need for such behavior. — Ren said. — Are you claiming Sakamoto always acted in violent behavior?

-Yes. He always was like that!

-Well, despite that, that's the only reason for Mr. Sakamoto act like that?

-Yes, I'm sure of it.

-Your Honor, I want the witness to amend this last part in his testimony. I believe it's very important.

-Prosecutor Niijima…? — The Judge asked.

-I don't see the point, but why not, if the defense believes it's important.

-Very well. Witness, amend the last part in your testimony.

-Okay. As I said before, Sakamoto's behavior was always a violent one!

-Objection! — Ren slammed the bench with his left hand. — Mr. Kobayakawa. I believe the last statement you said was an awful lie coming from you.

-What!?

-Yes. An awful lie, because I have evidence that contradicts your claim.

-What!? Amamiya, do you…

-Yes, I do. According to Ms. Sadayo Kawakami and a few other teachers I've interrogated, they affirmed Mr. Sakamoto's behavior wasn't a violent one. Actually, it's quite the contrary.

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — That's a good argument, except for the fact Mr. Sakamoto went into violent behavior against Mr. Kamoshida. Here the report was sent to the police's office on the day. It was a case of self-defense and the report was made by Mr. Kamoshida, who agreed to keep this quiet for a public apology.

Ryuji grumbled and Ren nodded seeing the new evidence.

-I see… I'll submit that as evidence. But Mr. Amamiya, you claimed you have evidence that contradicts this behavior, correct?

-Yes, I do have your Honor. "Although I never said I had that one in particular." — Ren pulled from his briefcase a folder. — Here in this folder, I've all the interrogations I did with all the teachers. All of them confirmed the same thing about Mr. Sakamoto's behavior: All of them said he was dedicated to the Track Team and with good behavior. Despite his actual appearance, he's a good person.

-Are you saying a punk like him is a good person!? Are you insane!? — Kobayakaya asked.

-I don't judge people by their appearance, instead I prefer to know their behavior, and as far I can see, his behavior towards others is because people tend to treat him as a delinquent. Ms. Kawakami is not an exception, although she seems to be quite worried about him, as a teacher should do. — Ren replied.

Kobayakawa laughed.

-Are you saying Mr. Sakamoto has good behavior? That's quite odd from you…? — Sae stated.

-Did you see how he acted? Do you really believe he possesses good behavior? — Kobayakawa asked.

-Not nowadays. Before the incident, yes, he possessed good behavior. Even some teachers don't understand why he changed his attitude; despite the fact that he possesses so much potential.

-It's simple. He's jealous of Mr. Kamoshida.

-Jealous, you say… — Ren commented, being vague. — Care to explain.

-Of course. He is jealous of Mr. Kamoshida. He's the reason Shujin Academy reached the success we have today. — Kobayakawa said proudly.

-Can you explain to us in more detail? — Sae asked.

-Of course. — Kobayakawa cleaned his throat and started his testimony. — Sakamoto has done that for revenge. He clearly did that because he was jealous of Mr. Kamoshida to a point, he attacked him and Mr. Kamoshida had to defend himself. Sakamoto always had this violent behavior. Ask anyone, he always had this attitude towards Kamoshida.

"Hmm… That's no good. This testimony seems flawless…"

-That was enough for you? — Kobayakawa asked.

-I'd believe that testimony explains everything. Although I do believe the defense will ask for cross-examining of the witness.

-Mr. Amamiya, I don't see any flaws in this testimony, if you want to continue… — The Judge said.

-I want your Honor. "Just because it seems flawless, it doesn't mean it is, in fact flawless. Time to press and dig for some information."

-Witness, you are still claiming Sakamoto did that for revenge because he was jealous of Mr. Kamoshida. Why?

-I think it's that obvious. Mr. Kamoshida is an Olympic athlete who won a gold medal. He possesses a great reputation and he was responsible for making our volleyball team go to the nationals. Who shouldn't be jealous of him? — Kobayakawa asked.

"A few people honestly… Including me." Ren thought.

-Well, I don't think so. I mean Mr. Sakamoto is a great athlete as far as I could see, and he possesses a lot of potential. Why would someone like him will be jealous of Mr. Kamoshida? — Ren asked.

-And why should I know? It's him, Mr. Mishima and you on the trial here.

-You're dodging my question. I asked why—

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Defense, you're pursuing an irrelevant matter. The question is the reason Mr. Sakamoto wants revenge on Mr. Kamoshida, not the reason he's jealous of Mr. Kamoshida.

-But that's related to the supposed motive. I demand an answer from the witness. — Ren retorted.

Sae adjusted her hair and glanced at Ren with a smile.

-But if the witness doesn't know the motive, it means your reasoning is irrelevant, as you said, is just mere speculation. And there's one more thing. — She said.

-What is it? — Ren asked.

-If the reason for the grudge of Mr. Sakamoto towards Mr. Kamoshida is jealousy, your case will crumble. Not only that, that'll also give the motive for the crime.

Ren flinched and smiled at her.

"She's dangerous, and she doesn't need much to push me against the corner. Better behave when I go to press the witness."

-I do agree with the prosecution. Objection sustained. Mr. Amamiya, please do not press the witness into meaningless matters. — The Judge said.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren said.

-You can continue, Mr. Kobayakawa. — The Judge said.

-Yes. As I said, Sakamoto always had this violent behavior.

-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — Always? I don't believe in you. After all the testimony I gathered, the evidence says otherwise.

-Probably the teachers lied to you. — Kobayakawa said.

-That's not the case. I checked the information and I asked several times. They said the same thing, although some of them have a certain impression of him.

-Still, he always has this behavior towards everyone. He disrespected all the teachers, asked anyone about it.

-Hey, that's bullshit! — Ryuji yelled.

-I only state the truth. And the truth is you're an issue to the Shujin Academy.

-You—

Ren slammed the bench furiously.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, I demand you behave yourself and hold your tongue. This courtroom is not a place to insult anyone. — Ren scolded.

-Said the one with the criminal record. You're lucky due to the fact we accepted your agreement.

-I have to agree. I was lucky that someone like you accepted my proposal. — Ren answered in an acid tone.

-You—

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Defense, I'll not accept you offending the witness. Please behave yourself.

-Mr. Amamiya, I'd suggest that you behave yourself. Otherwise, I'll have to give you a penalty. — The Judge said furiously.

-Yes, your Honor.

-That serves you. — Kobayakawa said with a smile.

-That also applies to you Mr. Kobayakawa. This courtroom is a place of respect. — Sae said calmly.

-I have to agree with the prosecution. Witness, behave yourself. We're drifting from your initial proposal. — The Judge ordered.

-Yes, your Honor.

-Mr. Amamiya, do you still have any questions for the witness? — The Judge asked

"Hum… What should I ask him first…?"

-Witness… My first question to you is if Mr. Sakamoto always behaved as you claimed.

-Yes, he was always a problem at Shujin. Despite the fact he was a member of the Track Team, he always caused trouble to Mr. Kamoshida.

-I see… Even before the arrival of Mr. Kamoshida at the Shujin Academy? — Ren asked.

-Yes. Even before that.

"Hm… It's obvious he's lying. However, I won't get anything useful from that line of questioning… Time to change the tactic."

-Mr. Kobayakawa, if Mr. Sakamoto always had his behavior, why was he on the Track Team? It doesn't make sense to me.

-The answer for that is quite simple: He couldn't accept Mr. Kamoshida as his coach and the reason is that Mr. Kamoshida is a hardworking coach, who pushes his athletes when they need to. He simply could accept the fact Kamoshida-San is far the best coach than the previous PE Teacher.

-That's bullshit! You—

-Ryuji! Enough! — Ren said, slamming the bench. — Witness, you're not here to say your personal opinion, you're here to testify. Now, answer my question: Why was Mr. Sakamoto still on the track team if he had violent behavior?

-As I told you, it was because he couldn't withstand Mr. Kamoshida's training. He was always complaining about how the training was unbearable. Just excuses in my opinion from a wea—

-Objection! — Ren shouted. — Witness, behave yourself.

-Don't give me order you delinquent—

-Objection! — Sae shouted and slammed the bench with both hands. — Witness, I ask you for some respect here. You're here to testify as the defense said, not to insult him.

-But…

-I'd agree with Prosecutor Niijima. You're here to testify, not to insult anyone here. — The Judge scolded Kobayakawa.

-Yes, your Honor.

"I can see defense attorneys don't have any respect in Tokyo either. I'm screwed."

-As I said, Sakamoto couldn't withstand Kamoshida's training. That's the reason he acted violently towards him. — Kobayakawa said, resuming his testimony.

-So, you're saying Mr. Sakamoto couldn't keep the track… That's the only reason?

-Yes. He could even enter the Volleyball Team if he wanted. He possesses no limitations after all.

-Are you sure about that? — Ren asked Kobayakawa.

-Yes.

"Hm… That gave me the opening I needed, but there's something off… I need to press further."

-Mr. Kobayakawa. Mr. Sakamoto couldn't keep track, right? That was the reason for the dissolution of the Track Team? — Ren asked.

-Yes. Since Sakamoto attacked Mr. Kamoshida, the team was dissolved due to their relation with Sakamoto.

-That's an exaggeration for a simple incident. I mean, dissolve the entire track team? Isn't that team champion as well?

-Yes, but the team has the same type of people as Sakamoto, so it is a measure to avoid any further incidents.

-Are you saying that's the reason, correct?

-Yes. Since Sakamoto attacked Kamoshida-San that showed the team members are unstable and dangerous persons.

-If that's the case, why aren't they on any other sports team of Shujin? I mean, if you claim Mr. Sakamoto could…

-Well I don't know, maybe Kamoshida couldn't trust them. Especially Sakamoto, he wouldn't even apologize to him.

-I'll never apologize to that son of a bitch!

The judge slammed his gavel.

-Defendant, language, please. — The Judge ordered.

-Ignoring Mr. Sakamoto's sudden outburst, are you saying Mr. Sakamoto violent behavior was due to the incident with Mr. Kamoshida?

-Yes. It was a case of self-defense.

-Objection! — Ren slammed the bench with his left hand. — Mr. Kobayakawa. I believe the last statement doesn't match the evidence.

-What!? — Kobayakawa exclaimed.

-Yes. It was because Mr. Sakamoto is limited in a certain way. Moreover, the fact is it wasn't a case of self-defense!

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Your honor, this is a tactic from the defense to distract our attention. A certain habit from his mentor Phoenix Wright.

-Objection! — Ren shouted. — This is not a distraction, neither a bluff I can assure you, Prosecutor Niijima. Besides, as Mr. Kobayakawa said, each of us had reasons to take revenge, especially Mr. Sakamoto. However, I have my doubts about that. Because for me, the only issue I have is the fact the entire school knows about my criminal record, but that is far from a reason for revenge for me since I don't have any grudge towards the responsible. And is normal for anyone who has issues, that's not a good reason to discount anyone. But if that is your last claim, Mr. Kobayakawa was a lie.

-What do you mean? Sakamoto is more than capable of entering any sports team of the Shujin. And it was a case of self-defense.

-The doctor responsible for treating Mr. Sakamoto says the opposite.

-What do you mean? It was a case of self-defense.

-It wasn't. I have in my possession the medical chart of Mr. Sakamoto, and it's said here, due to a fracture in his femur, he couldn't perform the same movements as before. The trauma was caused by a blunt hit, close to the head of the knee.

The public started to comment as the Judge hit his gavel.

-Order! Order in the court! — The Judge ordered.

-How did you… — Kobayakawa asked with his face pale.

-How did I get this? Well, it's quite simple. I just asked Mrs. Yuki Sakamoto for permission to get his medical charts. Or did you think I just stole it? — Ren provoked.

Kobayakawa grumbled as Ren stared at him.

-Well, that's a good point. Do you have any explanation for that? — The Judge asked.

-Well. I have received his medical chant, and it doesn't have any mention of this wound.

-Then your medical chant has a mistake in their report. It's clear, right here.

-When you obtained that, Mr. Amamiya? — Sae asked.

-In the Hokuto Aoyama Hospital. And yes, this was submitted as evidence by me in the court report. Is there a problem Prosecutor Niijima?

-No. Not at all… — She answered.

-You claimed it was a case of self-defense. How can breaking his leg be considered self-defense? Can you answer me that Mr. Kobayakawa?

-Well… — Kobayakawa was speechless, sweating nervously as he figured out an answer.

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — I admit that was a good move… To distract the attention of people here anyway.

-What…?

-Don't you get it, let me explain it to you. True, you had proved the incident of Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Kamoshida wasn't a case of self-defense, I grant you that. However, that creates the motive of Mr. Sakamoto. His reason for revenge was the end of his career as an athlete since he couldn't perform the same feats as before. You have proved that now. That also explains his actual behavior. It was all because of the incident, and according to Mr. Kamoshida, Mr. Sakamoto tried to assault him once again, but someone managed to stop him. It was you, wasn't it? — Sae asked.

-Yes… — Ren said, sweating nervously.

-That means Mr. Sakamoto has the motive to commit the crimes. So, your point proved Mr. Kobayakawa's claim. Quite ironic, isn't it? Thanks to you, the motive was established!

Ren flinched and gave a nervous smile. The public went into an uproar.

-Order! Order in the court! — The Judge said. — Prosecutor Niijima, what do you mean by this?

-Remember your Honor, according to Detective Gumshoe the defendants threatened Mr. Kamoshida, and according to the report, one of them, more specifically Mr. Sakamoto tried to assault him. Moreover, Mr. Mishima couldn't keep track as well, and he wanted to seek revenge together, which was stated beforehand by Detective Gumshoe. All of that led the defendants to seek revenge, by using Ms. Suzui as a victim.

-Objection! — Ren shouted. — Prosecutor Niijima, my clients barely had any contact with Ms. Suzui.

-And how about Mr. Mishima?

-Their relationship was limited only to the volleyball team. They're teammates according to Mr. Mishima. They barely talked with each other except to send messages to give the calls of Mr. Kamoshida. Now I raise the question: If we had the reason to seek revenge towards Mr. Kamoshida, why'd we attack Ms. Suzui? She's barely related to us, and as far I know, she's not related to Mr. Kamoshida as point is we can't be related to Ms. Suzui since we barely had contact with her from the very beginning! — Ren said.

The public went into an uproar.

-Order! Order in the court! — The Judge ordered. — As much as the prosecutor had brought valid points about the defendants' motive, I need to concede the point to the defense, since they're not related to the victim as well.

To everyone's surprise, Sae smiled as she adjusted her hair.

-I can prove their relationship with Ms. Suzui.

-What!? — Ryuji and Mishima shouted in surprise.

-What? — Ren asked, sweating nervously.

-I have a witness who can prove the connection between the defendants and Ms. Suzui.

-You have…? — Kobayakawa asked, surprised.

-A witness? — Ren asked.

-Yes. If I may your Honor.

-The prosecution has the permission to call a new witness. I will give a twenty-minute recess for the prosecution to prepare the next witness. I suggest the defense prepare as well.

-Yes, your Honor. — Both Ren and Sae replied.

-Court will be adjourned. — The Judge said, hitting the gavel.

April 25. Monday. 14:00

Tokyo District Court

Defendant Lobby No. 3

-Wow dude, I never expected that! It was awesome how you fought her! — Ryuji said with a wide grin, then he frowned. — But daaammmnn… That prosecutor is tough! Never saw someone tough as her.

-She'll send us to jail. I'm sure of it… — Mishima said desperately.

-Relax dude, Renren will get us outta that. — Ryuji said seriously. — We need to believe him.

-I won't be that sure, Sakamoto. Did you see how she acted? She'll eat us alive.

-Relax you two… The battle is far from over. — Ren said calmly checking the evidence. — I wonder who the witness Ms. Niijima will call… — Ren commented.

-I just hope we can get out of this one, 'cause we're totally screwed. Screwed! — Mishima yelped.

-Relax Mishima. We're gonna get outta that. — Ryuji said.

-Still, I can't relax now. Aside from the new witness, everything is going according to my plan.

-Your plan!?

-Yes. My plan is to get out of this situation by trial.

-Good luck, because we need a miracle for that.

Ren sighed, massaging his temples.

-I'm dealing with a child here? — He asked, feeling his head starting to hurt again.

-Are you alright? — Ryuji asked.

-Yes, I am.

-Hey, pal… Eh, are you alright? — Gumshoe asked after seeing Ren massaging his temples.

-Yes, I'll be alright. Now then, why are you here?

-I think you could need this. — Gumshoe said, giving some files.

-The updated biopsy reports. Thank you, Detective.

-You're welcome, pal. By the way, did you hear about the next witness? — Gumshoe asked.

-Just a few moments ago, why?

-It's Prosecutor Niijima's secret weapon. The witness will break you down, pal. If I were you I'd be careful with her.

-I will. By the way, Detective, was the result of that panties analysis already done?

-No, pal. Why?

Ren frowned as he checked the biopsy report.

-Dammit… — Ren sighed as he noticed something. — Hey Gumshoe, did you get any DNA samples from the hospital?

-Yes, pal. The hospital called me since you requested and since you gave them my number…

-Did you send the sample to check?

-Yes pal, why?

-Cross the sample with the stains of semen present on the panty. If I'm right, they might be a match.

-Okay, pal. I'll check it. By the way… Ms. Niijima already received the report.

-I couldn't be less impressed. I'm the one who asked for them to redo the biopsy, she might get suspicious towards my request.

-Yeah, she asked 'bout that. I've got to tell the truth.

-It's okay. I was expecting that. I just hope she doesn't pull the carpet from under me with the new witness.

-Court is about to reconvene. — The bailiff announced.

-Thank you. — Ren said. — You two, get ready for the worse. Court is about to reconvene.

-We will. — Ryuji said with a serious frown.

-You better be. — Mishima said.

"Okay, time to face the new witness."

April 25, Monday.

Tokyo District Court. Courtroom Noº 4.

14:20.

-Now the court will reconvene. — The Judge said, slamming his gavel. — Prosecutor Niijima, is the next witness ready?

-Yes. She's ready to testify. I called Ms. Ann Takamaki to the stand.

A minute later Ann was standing on the witness stand, with her head down.

-Please state your name and occupation.

-Ann Takamaki. Second-year student of Shujin Academy. — Ann answered.

-Now, tell the relation between Ms. Suzui and the defendants.

-Objection! — Ren slammed the bench. — Prosecutor Niijima, what is the meaning of this!? Why'd you called a person not related to this case? — Ren asked furiously.

-She's not related, you say. However, according to the rumors she's in a relationship with Mr. Kamoshida. — Sae replied calmly.

The public went into an intense uproar and the Judge slammed the gavel as Ren started to sweat nervously.

-Order! Order! Order in the court! Prosecutor Niijima, are you saying…!?

-Yes. She's in a relationship with her teacher.

-Objection! — Ren slammed the bench again. — Prosecutor Niijima, those are baseless rumors! Are you implying you obligated a person not related to this case to testify in court just for baseless rumors!? — Ren asked, pointing at the prosecutor.

-I work with the benefit of the doubt, and in this case, I have my doubts about if those rumors are mere rumors, considering the testimony I've heard from Ms. Takamaki.

-Your Honor, I demand that the witness be dismissed from the obligation to testify in court. — Ren said.

-Your Honor I'd demand the witness to testify. She's related to this case since she's a friend of the victim. — Sae said.

-Your Honor, the prosecution is using a low tactic in order to get the testimony of a person not related to this case. I object to that.

-Your Honor, the defense it's clearly drifting from the objective here. We're here to pursue the truth, that's why I demand the witness to testify, since she is related to this case, even if it's not directly related to the case.

The Judge went silent for a moment analyzing the situation.

-As much I agree with the defense, we need to clear all the doubts for this case. The defense's request has been overruled.

Ren flinched as he sweats nervously.

"Dammit! Ann's going to testify and I wasn't ready for that… That was a risky move from Prosecutor Niijima. What's she planning…?"

-Ms. Takamaki, your testimony, if you please.

-Yes, your Honor… — Ann breathed heavily before starting to testify. — It's true Shiho and Mishima are just teammates. But we met Sakamoto-Kun before, at middle school. We're friends back then and he knows Shiho. — Ann sighed. — As Amamiya-Kun, they never had met each other. She just heard about him from the rumors. As well as me.

-That was a solid testimony, I need to admit. Mr. Amamiya, do you want to cross-examine the witness?

"There's the one-million question… Should I cross-examine Ann or not…?" Ren thought, analyzing the possibilities.

-Ms. Takamaki, I have only one question for you.

-Yes…?

-You claim you never met me before, correct?

-Yes.

- You know that's not entirely true, right?

-Yes. — Ann sighed. — We've met at least twice… before the trial.

-Then I should ask, why did you lie, witness? — Sae asked.

-I'd believe it's for the sake of Ms. Suzui, as well as for her sake and our sake. — Ren answered.

-What do you mean Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.

-I've met Ms. Takamaki at the station before I met Mr. Sakamoto. And the second time I met her was the day before Ms. Suzui tried to commit suicide. — Ren explained.

The public commented on Ren's last statement and the Judge hit the gavel.

-Order! Mr. Amamiya do you mean…?

-Yes. I met Ms. Takamaki on the same day as Mr. Sakamoto.

-I'd believe it's necessary for the witness to testify about that… — Sae said.

-If you insist Prosecutor Niijima. — Ren said. — Ms. Takamaki, if you please…

Ann nodded and started her testimony.

-I met Amamiya-Kun at the station. We hadn't talked with each other at the time. We saw Mr. Kamoshida stop in front of us and he offered us a ride. Only I accepted the offer. After that, I don't know the whereabouts of Amamiya-Kun. We met once again at the station a few days later. He helped me on the day before Shiho… — Ann sobbed, almost crying. — He went back home after he talked. Was that enough? — She asked, visibly shaken.

-Yes. Mr. Amamiya, before you cross-examine the witness, I have a warning for you. If you make the witness cry, I'll give you a penalty.

"That's totally unfair, but there's nothing I can do. I'm screw enough."

-I understand, your Honor. Ms. Takamaki, can I ask you a question?

-Yes, ask away…

-On the day we first met… What happened when Mr. Kamoshida arrived?

-He asked if we needed a lift. He offered me first and I accepted.

-Did he do something strange or anything?

-No…

-Did something happen after that?

-He offered it to you and you refused.

-Why'd you refuse a lift from Mr. Kamoshida, Mr. Amamiya? — Sae asked.

-I didn't know him, so I refused the lift. — Ren explained.

-Even though you met a classmate of yours?

-I was a complete stranger, so I thought it was better to refuse the offer.

-I see… Please continue Ms. Takamaki.

-Okay… After that, I don't know the whereabouts of Amamiya-Kun.

-Hold it! — Sae shouted. — After you go with Mr. Kamoshida you hadn't seen Mr. Amamiya, correct?

-No, just at the last class, when he arrived.

-Mr. Amamiya, at that moment you met Mr. Sakamoto, correct? — Sae asked.

-Yes.

-So, how did you two get lost? I don't believe you two decided to cut classes after you met.

-As I said before I hadn't slept well, neither did Mr. Sakamoto. So, our memories about the day in question were fuzzy. Before you have any idea we thought we were in a medieval castle. Obviously, we got lost during that time until he found our way back to Shujin. — Ren explained.

-Then I should ask, why did no one see you two in the streets? — Sae asked.

-Unfortunately, I don't possess a proper answer for that. — Ren replied.

-I see… Witness, please continue…

-Then after that we met later at the station a few days later. He helped me on the day before Shiho…

-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — About our second meeting…

-Yes…?

-Did something happen on that day specifically?

Ann sighed but nodded.

-Yes… I was threatened… By Mr. Kamoshida…

-The public went to an uproar as they saw the girl starting to cry. Ren sighed knowing he doesn't have a choice.

-Mr. Amamiya, I've warned—

-It's okay, your Honor… I'd believe it's time to tell the truth behind it… The truth is Shiho got into the volleyball team because of me.

-So, did you—

-Your Honor, let her finish. — Ren interrupted.

-He came to me and asked about me and Shiho, and he said despite her efforts, she couldn't make it to get on the team. I begged him to let her join the team… — Ann wiped the tears, and her voice gained a furious tone as she continued her statement. — He knew she's my friend and he used this to his advantage… I avoided giving him my number for the longest time, but he got somehow… Not only that, he tried to coerce me to… have sex with him… I never cede to him… On that day, he tried to force me…

She sighed heavily.

-All those rumors are because of him. All because of how I look.

-I don't get it, you're a beautiful girl… Why would someone…

-It's because of the witness appearance these rumors started, your Honor. All because she possesses foreign features. — Ren explained.

-I see… Please continue.

-All of that was because of his fault. That's why Shiho…

The public went into an uproar and the Judge slammed his gavel, trying to calm down the audience.

-Order, Order I say! Ms. Takamaki, these are serious accusations… Are you sure about that? — The Judge asked.

-Yes. I'm sure. Kamoshida is a deplorable person who made my life a hell. It's all his fault.

Everyone went silent and Ren glanced at Ann with an apologetic glance.

"I'm sorry Ann, I didn't want to expose you like that… But I don't have a choice…"

-Ms. Takamaki. I don't believe in your statement. — Kobayakawa said.

-What!? — Ann yelled furiously.

-I said I don't believe in you. Mr. Kamoshida is a respected teacher and a symbol of the prestige of the Shujin Academy, needless to say, I don't believe in anything you have said.

-You…

-That's bullshit! You don't know what she suffered, you… — Ryuji said.

The Judge slammed his gavel, interrupting both teenagers.

-Order! Order, I say! *Ahem* As much as I wish to believe in your claims, I need to concede this point to Mr. Kobayakawa. There's nothing related to Mr. Kamoshida in this case.

-Obviously.

-I don't think so…

Except for Sae, to everyone's surprise, it was Ren who stated while analyzing the court report.

-What is the meaning of this!? — Kobayakawa asked. — You don't possess any evidence about that.

-True. However, I do have a witness ready to testify about that, and she's standing at the witness stand right now.

-Wait… Do you mean me!? — Ann asked and Ren shook his head in affirmation.

-Yes. There's one thing we haven't explored yet… "Now Ren, don't screw with that."

-Well defense, say what we haven't explored yet? — The Judge asked.

-Before all of that, we have a witness surrounded by rumors, also the defense and the other defendants are surrounded by those rumors as well. I'd believe it's necessary for us to know more about these rumors.

-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Are you implying these rumors are related to the case?

-Like you, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here. We don't know how these rumors started, but I am sure they're related somehow. "Since I know they've come from the same source."

-Hm… Rumors you said. Oh my, I am eager to know about these rumors!

"That's not the time for that, your Honor." Sae and Ren thought at the same moment.

-Ms. Takamaki, can you testify about these rumors? — The Judge asked.

-Yes, I can. — She sighed. — I really hate rumors…

-We know that Ms. Takamaki, but we don't have a choice on this matter. In order to know the facts, we need to hear more about the rumors about the Shujin Academy. — The Judge said calmly. — Besides, I love rumors. I want to hear more about it.

-Your Honor, please… — Ren and Sae begged.

-Hey Ann, you can do it! Tell them. — Ryuji said.

-Ryuji!? — The blonde girl exclaimed.

-I know you're not comfortable, but you have to do this. I believe in you.

-Ryuji… — Ann closed her eyes and breathed deeply. — All right, I'm ready to testify about the rumors.

-Very well. Your testimony, if you please.

Ann breathed deeply again and nodded in agreement.

-There are several rumors in Shujin. Some of them are about the students of the Shujin Academy and others about Mr. Kamoshida. One of these rumors is about Amamiya-Kun's criminal record. Another one is about Ryuji assaulting Mr. Kamoshida… *sigh* Rumors say he was the one who attacked him first. *sigh* There are also rumors about me and him… That's so not true… And there's a rumor about Mr. Kamoshida abusing the students… About how he physically abuses them. These are the rumors about the Shujin Academy. *sigh* That's enough?

-More than enough. Now…

-Hold it!

Except for Ren and Sae, it was Kobayakawa who interrupted them.

-Your Honor, you wouldn't be going to let this happen, right? These are baseless rumors. — The principal exclaimed furiously.

-That we what we establishing Mr. Kobayakawa. — The Judge said, ignoring the interruption of Kobayakawa. — Now Mr. Amamiya, your cross-examination.

-Amamiya, you won't dare to continue this madness… I order you to stop.

-Is that a threat from you, Mr. Kobayakawa? — Ren asked. — If I were you, I would behave myself before doing something you'll regret. Besides I'm in my right to cross-examine the witness.

-Prosecutor Niijima, please put some sense into his head.

-I'm sorry, but the defense is in his right to cross-examine the witness. — Sae answered.

-Is that so… I don't see the point of that…

-Is that a threat to me, Principal Kobayakawa? — Sae asked.

-No… — He said, sweating nervously.

-I'd hope you're not planning to threaten me, otherwise, I'll make you regret it.

Kobayakawa gulped but nodded in agreement.

-Now, I'd believe it's time for me to cross-examine Ms. Takamaki. — Ren adjusted his tie and glanced at Ann intensely. — Ms. Takamaki.

-Yes!? — She exclaimed, surprised.

-About these rumors… Do you know the one who started it?

-Honestly, I've no idea. But it is surprising how they spread so fast… It was almost…

-Almost…?

-Almost someone who knows the facts tells them to the students.

-Do you believe it's not some baseless rumors coming from their own students.

-Seeing how informed they are in some of them, no. Clearly not.

-Hold it! — Kobayakawa interrupted. — These are just baseless rumors. There's no way for them to know anything about it.

"I don't have enough proof to keep that line of questioning… Time to change the tactic."

-Well, aside from that, I want to know more about the rumors about you and Mr. Kamoshida.

Ann stared at her feet, clearly uncomfortable.

-Is that really necessary…?

-I'm sorry, but it's necessary to state the facts of all the rumors.

-Okay… *Sigh* There's a rumor that I'm dating Mr. Kamoshida. Some of them…

-Some of them, what witness? — The Judge asked.

-Some of them said I'm his bitch.

-Oh my! — The Judge exclaimed.

-A few said I slept with half of the school. Ugh, why are all these rumors about me!? I don't understand…

-But you're dating Mr. Kamoshida?

-No! I'll never date a dick like him!

-You better respect Mr. Kamoshida, little lady! He's an honored teacher and he is honored by students.

-Honored my butt. He's…

-Objection! Witness refrain yourself. And Mr. Kobayakawa, stop interrupting the witness testimony. — Sae ordered.

-I do agree with the prosecution. You had done that earlier and it is quite irritating that attitude of yours. — Ren said.

-I do agree as well. Please refrain from interrupting the others, Mr. Kobayakawa. — The Judge ordered. Kobayakawa only grumbled.

-As I said there's nothing between us, and it will never be. He's the one who keeps coming at me…

-You little… You imply one of our teachers is coercing a student to have a relationship with a teacher, and it is with Mr. Kamoshida no less, but what proof do you have? — Kobayakawa asked.

-My smartphone is proof enough. I can simply show the register of the calls I've received.

-Simpler enough, I only need to ask the company about the register of Mr. Kamoshida. It is and we can cross with Ms. Takamaki's registers. Easy enough. "It is safer than handling her phone with our chat messages."

Kobayakawa gulped nervously.

-If that is enough, you can go back to your place and let the proceedings continue. Otherwise, Mr. Kobayakawa, I will arrest you for contempt of the court.

Kobayakawa grumbled and Ann continued her testimony.

-One of these rumors is about Amamiya-Kun's criminal record.

-Hold it! Ms. Takamak, care to explain how the students got the knowledge about my situation?

-They said they have found it on the internet, on the school forum.

-Is that forum open to the public to comment on?

-Yes, although it is limited only to the students and teachers. Why?

-So, anyone from Shujin Academy could've posted this, right?

-Yeah, and since it's anonymous… It could've been anyone…

-Are you implying Mr. Amamiya…!?

-I'm not implying anything, your Honor. I just raised up a hypothesis. — Ren stated.

-I see…

-So, you're implying…?

Ren shook his head.

-Anyone could've done that, but considering a few teachers and the principal knew about my situation, I'd believe only a teacher could've done that. Especially considering the cast who knows about it.

-If that's your claim, Ms. Kawakami should've been your first suspect. — Sae said.

-She doesn't have a reason to do that. I've investigated her personally. — Ren explained.

-She complains a lot about you.

-Far enough from a reason for her to tell everyone. It will make her life even more difficult. She doesn't have any benefits from doing this.

-But that single fact alone doesn't lift the suspicion about her.

-True, as much I hate to admit, that is still a possibility. — Ren said. — But we need to remind ourselves that the school's reputation will be affected if anyone knows about my condition, at least in some way. Having a rumor like that spread over the school is not good for the school's reputation. And I don't have proof to indicate someone.

-I have to concede on this point. It makes me wonder if the person who did that had nothing to lose.

"That makes me wonder… Why did Kamoshida do that in the first place? What is his plan anyway?"

-Now changing the subject… Ms. Takamaki.

-Yes!? — She exclaimed, surprised.

-About the rumors about Mr. Kamoshida… Can you tell me more about it?

-Well… There are rumors he has a high expectation from the volleyball team. — Ann replied.

-In my earnest opinion there's nothing wrong there… Although personally, I have my doubts.

-What are you—

-Mr. Kobayakawa. Do you want to get arrested? — Ren asked with a serious frown.

-No, but—

-So you better behave yourself. Otherwise…

Kobayakawa gulped and Ren stared back at Ann.

-Ms. Takamaki. I do believe this isn't the only rumor about him.

-True. There are also a few other rumors about him. One of these rumors is about me, of course. The other one is about him abusing the volleyball team. Some of the team members have their bodies covered in bruises and wrapped in bandages. All of them say it was because of training, but no one can tell if that's true or not. All of them simply change the subject.

-So, they simply don't talk about it… — Ren stated.

-Do you have something to say Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.

-Yes. Don't you find that rumor odd, you Honor?

-Why do you find it odd?

"Why do I even ask?" Ren thought and shook his head in negation.

-The biopsy report of Ms. Suzui indicates several brushes and hematomas over her entire body.

-According to the biopsy report, it was because of the fall, aside from a few one from the training.

-I have my doubts about that. — Ren stated.

-Why? Do you actually possess evidence which proves otherwise? — Sae asked.

-Do you possess defense? — The Judge asked.

"Okay, now it's time."

-I do believe you already know my answer, Prosecutor Niijima.

-Yes. The updated biopsy report.

-An update!? — Kobayakawa said in disbelief.

-Biopsy report!? — The Judge said surprised.

-Yes. According to the detective, you asked the hospital to take another biopsy. Is that correct?

-Exactly. I asked the doctor responsible for Ms. Suzui to perform another biopsy. Of course, all of that was with the consent of Mrs. Ayumi Suzui.

-According to the new biopsy, several traumas have been caused by a blunt object and also by someone with a considerable amount of strength. Or I should say, by one specific person.

-What…? — The Judge asked, confused and Sae gave a dry smirk as she glanced at Ren.

-Your Honor. I sent the report to be analyzed by a pathologist as we speak. According to his first analysis, the traumas around his body could have been caused by someone with a considerable amount of strength, more specifically, Mr. Sakamoto.

-Hey! — Ryuji exclaimed.

The public went into an uproar as the Judge hit the gavel and tried to keep the order.

-Prosecutor Niijima, are you implying!? — The Judge exclaimed in disbelief.

-Mr. Sakamoto knows the victim, and more than that, he clearly has the strength to cause the physical traumas on Ms. Suzui.

-And what about the traumas caused by a blunt object?

-That's easy to explain. Obviously, at the Shujin Academy, Mr. Sakamoto probably picked up the first thing he could find. That creates the perfect weapon since he was careful enough to not let any evidence behind. That said, he is obviously the prime suspect.

-Order! — The Judge said. — So, Mr. Sakamoto was responsible for Ms. Suzui's situation…

-If that was the case, your Honor. I do believe I have evidence that proves otherwise. — Ren retorted, with a smile on his face.

-What!? — Sae and the Judge said in shock.

-I do have evidence of what weapon was used to hurt Ms. Suzui, and that proves Mr. Sakamoto and none of us are related to this case. — Ren explained calmly.

-Well then Mr. Amamiya, if you have the evidence for that you better prove it. Otherwise, I will give you a penalty. — The Judge said.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren said bowing his head respectfully. "It's time to show that evidence."

-Well Mr. Amamiya, I'm waiting.

-Your Honor, I present this! — Ren said, showing the medal.

-A… medal? — The Judge asked, surprised.

-How this medal is related to this case? — Sae asked, surprised.

-This medal's form matches with some of the bruises around her body. According to a doctor, I consult, the form matches with the bruises. You can send it to a doctor to analyze right away and check if the wounds match with the medal.

-What!? — The Judge and Sae said in shock.

-Where did you get this medal!? — Kobayakawa asked.

-This? You should thank Mr. Ushiro Yamagi. He's a former teammate of Mr. Kamoshida and he gave me his medal.

-WHAT!? I object! This evidence is a fraud, I fraud I say! This medal isn't related to this case! — Kobayakawa exclaimed.

-How do you know that, Mr. Kobayakawa? That's a serious claim from you.

-I know you frauded that! It's impossible that an Olympic Medal was used to hurt Ms. Suzui.

-Then I ask, how do you know that? I never mentioned that's an Olympic Medal.

-It's obvious that's an Olympic Medal. Only Mr. Kamoshida has one and there's not a way for you to get his medal, since he carries his medal all the time.

Ren smiled and Sae started to sweat nervously.

-What's wrong? And why are you smiling?

-I should be thankful to you Mr. Kobayakawa. After all, you made my job easier. — Ren explained.

-What!?

-You idiot… You had proven his point…! — Sae said while she glanced at Kobayakawa.

-What!? — Kobayakawa exclaimed, sweating nervously.

-Exactly! — Ren slammed the bench. — I never said Mr. Kamoshida was related to this case, but when you stated he carries a medal exactly like this one within him, he becomes a suspect!

Another uproar came from the public and the Judge hit his gavel.

-Order! Order! Order, I said! Mr. Amamiya! Are you saying…!

-Objection! Your Honor, that's another trick from the defense! — Kobayakawa exclaimed.

-Mr. Kobayakawa. You are still hiding something, and I demand you to testify! — Ren said, pointing at Kobayakawa.

-Objection! — Sae pounded her bench with both hands. — Mr. Amamiya, you have already interrogated this witness. There's nothing relevant to question him.

-Objection! — Mr. Kobayakawa is still hiding something from us. I demand him to testify about what he knows.

-Objection! That point is irrelevant. Even if Mr. Kamoshida is related to this case, there's no evidence relating him to the case.

"Dammit, she has a point there. No, I can't go back now. Or we'll lose."

-He knows enough for someone not related directly in this case. I demand him to testify right now!

-Objection! Even if he's indirectly related, there's no need for him to testify! — Sae argued.

-Objection! Even if that's the case he inferred in the witness's testimony and stated something related to this case. I demand that! I demand Mr. Kobayakawa to testify!

The Judge hit the gavel, silencing both defense and prosecution.

-That's enough! Mr. Amamiya, as much as I agree with the prosecution, you raised a valid point here. Mr. Kobayakawa knows more than he shows. I demand him to testify about if these rumors are true or not. Mr. Kobayakawa, take the stand.

Ann exited the stand and Kobayakawa assumed her place.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, you know why are you here, correct?

-Yes. There is only one thing I want to say about these rumors.

-And what is it?

-All these rumors are a big fat lie. None of them are real and especially about Mr. Kamoshida. He's a valuable member of the Shujin Academy and he'll never, ever hurt a single student.

-Liar! And what 'bout me!?

-You obviously assaulted him. You deserve what you did.

-You son of a—

Ren slammed the bench furiously and stared at Kobayakawa.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, I demand you to take back your word, otherwise, I'll file a lawsuit against you.

-Are you threatening me? Do you forget who holds your life?

-I do not. However, if I were you, I would be careful, you'll regret it.

-You—

The Judge hit the gavel, silencing Kobayakawa.

-Mr. Kobayakawa and Mr. Amamiya, you two better calm your nerves, otherwise I'll call the bailiff and I'll suspend the trial. I don't want to hear you two threatening each other.

-Yes, your Honor. — Both Kobayakawa and Ren answered.

-Now Mr. Kobayakawa, testify about these rumors.

-I will.

-Wait.

Everyone turns to Sae which sighed annoyed.

-This is getting ridiculous. All of that is just rumors and questioning the witness about it it's useless.

"I hate to admit it, but Prosecutor Niijima has a point there. Dammit, what is she going to do?"

-So, what do you suggest, Prosecutor Niijima? — The Judge asked.

-Maybe he should testify about that incident.

-What incident are you talking about Prosecutor Niijima? — Ren asked, confused.

-She is talking about the files you stole from my office.

-Which files?

-You know what I am talking about. The class diary you tried to steal.

-Oh, you meant that…

-Why are you so calm about that?

-Why do you say I stole the class diary?

-It was you. I'm sure of it.

-So, what's your evidence?

-Huh?

-You need evidence to prove your claim.

-I don't need evidence. I know it was you.

-I don't think you don't know the situation you got into. Here in court one of the most essential things in court is the evidence. Without evidence, your claim is baseless. You should know that well.

Kobayakawa grumbled.

-Still, I can testify about it.

-True. Although I doubt we will find anything useful in your testimony.

-Very well. Witness, testify about the incident. — The Judge said.

-Right. A few days ago, some files went missing. These files are important to this case. Fortunately, I managed to retrieve the copies of these files. These files are the class diary from Mr. Ushimaru and Ms. Kawakami. You stole them from my office, I'm sure of it.

-Well, I hate to admit it, but it looks like the defense has a point there. This testimony is irrelevant to this case. Defense, I need to ask, do you still want to cross-examine the witness.

Ren nodded his head in agreement.

-Yes, your honor. I still want to cross-examine the witness.

-Very well. Please proceed, Mr. Amamiya.

-Mr. Kobayakawa, I only have one question for you.

-And what is it?

-You said I took the class diary from your office, right?

-Yes. You took them from my desk.

-Odd.

-What's odd.

-It's odd, wouldn't you agree, Prosecutor Niijima?

-Now you mentioned it, there's something odd about it. You claimed you gave me the copies of the class diary; however, those were submitted as the original class diary from Ms. Kawakami and Mr. Ushimaru. And the class diary was given to me no less by Detective Gumshoe. You shouldn't be able to give me those files.

-What side are you on?

-I'm on the justice side, however, I can't turn away from an inconsistency that can lead to an unfair verdict. After all, my career depends on it. And the fact you had those files is odd.

-Prosecutor Niijima has a point there. But there's something you said at least it was right. Your files have been taken.

-I knew it. It was—

-By Detective Gumshoe, who sent it to forensic analysis.

-What…? — Kobayakawa asked, as his face became pale.

-We went to your office and we found the class diary hidden in your desk. Not only that, there is some information that was not submitted two days after Ms. Suzui attempted to take her own life.

-So, you two invaded the office.

-It wasn't an invasion, per se, however, if there's anyone to blame, it's Detective Gumshoe. But in his defense, you permitted him to investigate the entire school. Your office is not an exception.

-That means he had the power to investigate your office as well. — Sae stated. — Since you allowed him to investigate without any restriction, your office is not off-limits.

-Moreover, the fact you gave the class diary to the teachers in charge of the classes that day makes me wonder: Why do you have the class diary in the first place? If you were so sure we're guilty, why'd you have that in the first place? Unless…

-Are you implying I concealed evidence!?

-You said it, not me. But the odd fact was the discrepancy in the class diary information, so I asked Detective Gumshoe to send the diary class for analysis. The results will be released anytime soon.

-You…

Sae slammed both hands.

-Did you know that the whole time!? — She exclaimed furiously.

-Not the entire time. I wasn't sure, and I'll not give a baseless claim without the results, but you need to admit that's odd.

-True… I concede the point to you… This time… — Sae said calmer. — Now I'll call Detective Gumshoe to bring me the results.

-I will call a ten-minute recess. I do believe that there is enough time for Detective Gumshoe to bring the results. For now, Court is adjourned.
