-Where in the world is Amamiya? — Mishima asked impatiently, looking at the lobby door.

-Calm down, man. He's coming as we're speakin'. — Ryuji answered, annoyed by the other teenager's behavior.

Both were waiting in the defendant's lobby, trying to stay calm. At that point, the only thought Mishima has in his mind is how he got himself into this situation. After the interrogation he had with Gumshoe, he discovered he will be judged in a trial, a real one. Frightened after hearing that, but after being convinced by Ryuji nothing will happen to them since Ren and Ryuji themselves have a plan to solve this. However, at that moment Mishima was not entirely sure about Ren and Ryuji's plan. Snapping his attention between Ryuji and the lobby door, the short dark blue-haired high schooler sat down, grunting annoyed.

-Honestly, I didn't expect to be here… We shouldn't be here.

-Be more confident, man. We're gonna win this shit.

-I don't know how you can be so confident, even now. We're really close to losing our lives and you're here, calm as hell, unlike other times… — Mishima sighed again. — And now Amamiya is late! He doesn't know we actually screwed enough?

Mishima saw the badge and he was even more surprised. Sweating a lot, he tried to keep himself calm. On other hand, Ren was avoiding making any comment in that situation, while he fixed his outfit. He knows how Mishima is, and he has the consciousness to not make things even worse. Ryuji scratched his head nervously.

-He's right… — Ryuji answered and snapped to Ren. — How was your stuff?

-It went well, although I bet the police and even the prosecutor possesses some evidence I haven't found or I have overlooked. In any case, I'm expecting anything in this case. We are lucky because I was able to convince them to solve this in court.

-If you say so… Wait, so you…? — Mishima asked, finally understanding the situation.

-Yes, I'm the one who moved that trial, remember?

-Okay, so you did all of this? — Ren nodded in confirmation, answering Mishima. — Now, we're officially screwed! How are we going to get out of this!?

-Calm down. I can get us out of this.

-First, how? Second, did you think they're going to believe you're an attorney!?

Ren smiled calmly, adjusting his glasses.

-Answering first the second question, they have to, because I'm officially the lead lawyer assigned for this case as the defense, and I'm going to find a way and fight until the end. I know we're innocent, and that I'm going to prove it. Mishima, I know I can do it, there is no way Kamoshida can get out of this. He's going to pay. I'm going to make sure of that.

Mishima remained silent. For him it was impressive how Ren was so calm in this situation.

Ren sat down on the sofa and checked the evidence he gathered. Morgana was laughing mentally, avoiding making any sounds. Despite Ren's warnings, he convinced the young defense attorney to bring him to watch the trial, but he has to avoid calling everyone's attention. For Ren, the weekend was important for checking information and even asking for details about the case. Keeping his calm smile, he only said.

-Because, I fight for justice and truth, and for the ones who can't defend themselves. And, believe me, or not, I'm tired of that. Although, I know my duty as a lawyer, of what I can or can't do, and I won't do whatever I want just to get a not guilty plea. We have to be accurate with the information we have to reach the "truth" and to make a fair trial and bring justice.

-Easy for you to say. — Mishima said sarcastically.

-True. It's easy to say, but not to do it. However, what's the meaning of having courts and lawyers, if we can solve this easily? The world is far more complex than we thought, but there is some simplicity in the middle of this complexity. It's my duty as a lawyer to see between all of that clearly to reach the truth. Don't worry about that. Just relax; after all, I'm the one who needs to prove our innocence.

-Good luck, because from what I heard we're really screwed. — Mishima said tiredly to both him and Ryuji, Ren chuckled.

-Honestly, where's the fun if it isn't? Since the prosecutor of this case is Sae Niijima. — Ren commented excitedly. — I'm finally going to meet her.

-Niijima, damn... — Mishima said, depressed. — Do you have any more surprises for us?

-Well… Is it going to help to say my mentors are Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth…?

Looking at the hours on his smartphone, Ren stood up and walked to the door.

The public was staring to the scene was happening in the courtroom. Against all the expectations of everyone, the image of the black-haired teenager with glasses on the defense bench and of one of the most famous prosecutors of Tokyo and maybe even of Japan was there to deal with that specific case was blown up their expectations of a common cause. At the same time, Ryuji and Mishima became nervous from seeing the famous prosecutor in person, who also was the relative of one of the students of the Shujin Academy. That information was common knowledge to all of them back at Shujin, and her reputation was enough to put fear in them, due to the situation they are in, but despite all these facts, Ren was there, standing calm and composed as always. To Ryuji it was almost like Ren was back in the Kamoshida's Palace, but he was also a bit different. He was relaxed, totally free from the gentleman thief character, as if he was in his own home, and he knew what to do. Despite Ren's nervousness, his posture was telling the opposite. Standing on the bench, with one of his hands inside his pocket and the other one on the bench, fully erected, Ren was standing in place in the stance of someone who had no doubts on what he was doing. Mishima becomes surprised after seeing that scene, starting to wonder how it was going to end. As for the lawyers in the place, Ren was surprised to finally meet the famous Sae Niijima, at the same time he was admired for how the description of her was totally precise. Her attitude in court was a hint to Ren to get into a tough battle, which makes him smile mentally. At the same time, he was nervous due to the person he going to fight against it. If all he heard was right, he can only expect a nightmare to start. As for Sae, she was surprised to see her suspicions confirmed, and to have her expectations broken by the teenager on the other side. She was surprised to see Ren there, dressed according to his role, his attorney's badge shining locked on his suit, and his attitude in court. For a brief moment, she could swear he was a young adult with an odd young appearance, but she knows he was only a teenager, but not an ordinary one. -The defense is ready, your Honor. — Ren answered.

The Judge stared at Ren for brief seconds in surprise before ask:

-Prosecutor Niijima, before we start the proceedings… I need to ask, why is this teenager on the defense's bench? Is he not one of the defendants in this case?

-Yes, he is. I'm asking that to myself as well, your Honor. — Sae replied politely.

-Care to explain yourself, Mr. Amamiya? — Asked the Judge, with a serious frown.

-No, your Honor. She survived the fall, although, due to the impact and her wounds, she fell in a state of comatose. The biopsy record explains in detail her actual condition and the multiple traumas over her body.

-I see… The court accepts that as evidence. Now, she did that out of the blue. Did she have a motive for that?

-At first, the police didn't identify anything related to her suicide attempt. But due to an anonymous source, we found the link between the victim and the defendants. According to the source, they claimed the defendants inflicted and induced Ms. Shiho Suzui to take an attempt on her own life.

The high school they attend is the Shujin Academy. The place is divided into two big buildings, the Class Building and the Practice Building. She went to the Practice Building rooftop during the middle of class. She crossed the safety of the fence and jumped. There are a lot of witnesses who saw that.

After hearing Gumshoe's testimony, the Judge went silent for a moment, processing the information.

-Well, this case sounds like was only a suicide attempt.

-Yes. Although, we need to know more about this incident. — Ren commented calmly.

-I must agree with the defense. We need to ensure the facts of this case. — Sae said.

-Yes. Very well, now Mr. Amamiya is in time for the cross-examination. — The Judge said.

-Yes, your Honor. — Ren closed his eyes for a second and then he snapped his attention to Gumshoe. — Detective, can you give more details about the first time I went to the Shujin Academy?

-He even said about your criminal record and your probation. That is not a good thing for anyone, especially someone of your age. — Sae commented calmly.

-Is that correct, Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.

-Yes, your Honor. I'm currently on probation due to an incident almost a year ago. That even affected my progression in my old school. — Ren answered.

-You should know that it even affects your condition as a lawyer.

-I know that well, your Honor. That's why I was avoiding recurring to the legal system until I paid my debt to society. But as I said before, in this situation I was forced to solve this in court.

-So, that's why... — Sae said.
