-Now the Court will reconvene. Detective Gumshoe, are you alright?
-Yes, I am sir… Just a little tired after rushing all the way here. I have the results from the class diary handwriting. — Gumshoe said exasperated.
-And what do the results say?
-The results indicate it's Mr. Kobayakawa who wrote in the class diaries. According to the analysis, it's his handwriting in the class diaries the teachers gave to us.
-And the ones you and Mr. Amamiya found at his office? — Sae asked.
-The results say it's Ms. Kawakami and Mr. Ushimaru handwriting.
-Did you check again? — Sae asked.
-Yes, the forensic team checked three times. It's a match without any doubt.
-So, Mr. Kobayakawa not only concealed evidence, he forged it as well… — The Judge said, thoughtful.
-Just to be sure, I want to summon both Mr. Ushimaru and Ms. Kawakami to confirm our suspicions. I do believe they are in the audience, watching the trial. — Sae said.
-I do not have any objections. — Ren said.
-Mr. Ushimaru and Ms. Kawakami, please take the stand.
A few minutes later, Ushimaru and Kawakami were standing on the witness stand. Both glanced towards Ren surprised and to Sae perplexed.
-Mr. Ushimaru and Ms. Kawakami, I do believe you two know why you are here, correct? — Sae asked.
-Yes, I do… — Kawakami sighed. — Why am I here…?
-Why are we here? And why are you standing here?! You're not supposed to be the defendant in the trial? — Ushimaru asked furiously.
-I am one of the defendants, but I claimed the right to defend myself in a trial, so I'm representing myself and Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Mishima. And also, I'm legally capable of doing so, do you have any problem with that?
Ushimaru blinked perplexedly.
-No but…
-So, why are you complaining about it? Unless you have a problem with that.
-No, but…
Ren sighed.
-Mr. Ushimaru, for the sake of everyone here please, just stop complaining and cooperate. — Ren demanded.
-Who are you to give me orders?
Ren sighed again tiredly.
-Look, I do demand some respect here. I'm only doing my job here.
-Or what…? You're going to ask to arrest me?
-Actually, I can request that. Contempt of the court. And trust me I don't want to do that; I just want you and Ms. Kawakami to confirm something for us.
-Go ahead… We know what it is already… — Kawakami said tiredly.
-Ms. Kawakami and Mr. Ushimaru, do you recognize these class diaries?
Sae showed the class diary and both examined their class diary and nodded their heads in agreement.
-Yes, it's my class diary. — Kawakami said.
-Yes, It's mine. — Ushimaru said.
-Can you confirm that? — Sae asked.
Both showed their signatures.
-Yes, it's our signatures in these diaries. Also, is our handwriting in these diaries, we're sure of it.
-And the ones you two gave to Detective Gumshoe? — Sae asked.
-We found it on our desks one day after their disappearance. Principal Kobayakawa said he found them after looking over the guidance office and the teacher's office. — Kawakami said.
-Did you two touch these class diaries before?
-Yes, we carry these copies in case we lose the originals, but we never expected that. — Ushimaru said.
-Thank you. It seems like you have a lot to explain Mr. Kobayakawa. — Ren said with a serious frown.
-I have nothing to explain. It's obvious…
-He forged them, right? So how do you explain Detective Gumshoe finding them with Mr. Amamiya at the same time, then? — Sae asked.
-Well, obviously—
-If you claim he is working with the defense, you better have evidence to back up your claim. — Sae interrupted.
-After all, you're making a serious accusation. Do you possess proof to prove your theory? — Ren asked.
-Proof? I… I…
-You don't have proof. It was you who put the class diary there in the first place. In order to accuse me of forgery. — Ren said.
-Why you…
-That's enough!
Everyone's attention went to Sae, who glanced dangerously at Kobayakawa.
-Hiroshi Kobayakawa, I should ask the Judge to arrest you for forgery and contempt of the court. However, you're lucky the defense is quite benevolent with you. — Sae said with an evil grin.
-Benevolent!? What kind of benevolence did he do to me?
Sae smirked.
-If you had read the agreement as I did, you'd never have made that move in the first place. Your Honor.
-Yes, Prosecutor Niijima? — The Judge asked, surprised.
-Do you have the agreement submitted as evidence in this trial?
-Yes, I do have it.
-May you share your thoughts about it?
-Yes, of course. After reading the whole agreement, I need to say, the defense has indeed been benevolent with you Mr. Kobayakawa. For now, I let this slide, however, you aren't free from the punishment for doing such a crime.
-But I… Yes, Your Honor. — Kobayakawa glanced at Ren. — Amamiya, if you…
-You should worry less about threatening me and more about your situation. If I were you, I would confess my crimes.
-Amamiya…
Ren sighed.
"And I thought the case would be easy to deal with…"
Sae keeps smiling as she glances at Ren.
"What Prosecutor Niijima is planning?"
-Mr. Amamiya, do you know what that means, right? It means your alibi from that day is confirmed by that evidence. You were in school on that day Ms. Suzui tried to kill herself.
-Yes, I know. Still, I don't see the point.
-Mr. Mishima, if I recall correctly, you called Ms. Suzui the day before, correct?
-Yes, why…?
Ren started to sweat nervously at the public comment.
-You're not implying…
-You three could've ambushed her. It's a simple matter of logic. Not only that, I need to remind you that the original class diaries indicate you three were present on the day before, and since your whereabouts can't be proven…
-Objection! Prosecutor Niijima, you're bluffing. I spent the day with Ms. Takamaki on the day before Ms. Suzui jumped.
-And what about Mr. Mishima and Mr. Sakamoto? Their whereabouts on that day is not known as well, since Mr. Kamoshida said after sending Mr. Mishima to call Ms. Suzui, she went missing.
-And what about me? — Ren asked.
-Of course, you could've coerced Ms. Takamaki to testify in your favor, since it seems you two are close enough.
-You—
Ren pounded the bench with both hands, clenched in anger.
-Prosecutor Niijima, do you have any proof to support your claim?
Sae's smile widened as she showed the updated biopsy report.
-According to the biopsy report, unknown traces of DNA were found in Ms. Suzui's nails. I do hope you have an explanation for that.
Ren flinched as the public commented on the new discovery.
"Dammit. I was careless to show that evidence sooner. I knew she was planning something but I never saw that coming."
-So, Mr. Amamiya, do you care to submit yourself, Mr. Mishima, and Mr. Sakamoto to a DNA test? — Sae asked.
"If we back up now, we'll lose this trial…"
-No, we'll submit yourselves to the DNA test.
-Gladly. Detective, please collect the DNA samples from the defendants.
-Roger, sir!
Gumshoe collected the samples and left the courtroom. After that Ren stared at Mishima and Ryuji with a confident look.
-Detective, please check that evidence again. — Ren asked.
-Oh, I see pal! I'll check that as well.
"As long as the evidence proves we're not the owners of that DNA, we're safe. At least for now."
-You are truly brave, Mr. Amamiya, I need to admit that. However, if that DNA Matches with your DNA or to one of the defendants…
-I know your Honor, I'm willing to face the consequences. As I said, we have nothing to hide.
-Very well. Now then, let's proceed. Now, aside from that, we still don't have enough evidence to claim the defendants guilty. If you don't have any more objections, we'll wait for the results and I'll handle a verdict depending on the test results.
"I can't let the trial stop here. I need to call Kamoshida and fast."
-Your Honor!
-Yes, Mr. Amamiya!? — The Judge said.
-I have an objection! — Ren exclaimed.
-What do you object to? Do you have something to say?
-Yes, I do have. The case is far from over. I do have a request.
-What do you want, Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.
-I want to summon another witness. A very important witness to this case.
-You're planning to call Mr. Kamoshida, don't you? — Sae asked.
Ren blinked, perplexed, then nodded in affirmation with a wry smile.
-Yes, you're right. Do you possess any objection towards it?
-Do you know aside from the evidence you brought to this trial, they do not link him directly to this case, correct?
-Yes, I do know that. However, I do believe it's necessary for him to testify in order to clear the allegations against him.
Sae went silent, thinking about Ren's proposal.
-I do believe more testimony is necessary, but not from Mr. Kamoshida. Please Mr. Yuuki Mishima take the stand.
Mishima looked at Ren, who nodded at him, assuring everything will be alright. After taking the stand, he glanced at the ground, nervously.
-State your name and occupation. — Sae said.
-Yuuki Mishima, a second-year student from Shujin Academy.
-Do you mind telling us a few things?
-No, I do not.
-Since when did you know Mr. Amamiya?
-I don't know him personally, but everyone heard about him. However, he came to me with Sakamoto a few days ago to ask about a rumor.
-What rumor did he ask about it?
-About Mr. Kamoshida physically abusing the students. I told them it was because of the training.
-What type of training leaves you in such a state? — Sae asked.
-It was nothing, I swear, it was just normal training.
-If you say so. Please testify about the day in question.
-Yes. I was going to training when Amamiya and Sakamoto approached me and started to question me about the rumor. We talked about that and I refused to talk further about that. We only saw each other after Suzui jumped from the rooftop. Since then, we have barely talked with each other.
-I don't see any flaws in his testimony. — The Judge commented.
-As you said, your Honor, however, I do believe we can still check a few things to make sure his testimony is airtight. Better safe than sorry.
-If that you wish. Now your cross-examination Mr. Amamiya.
-Mr. Mishima, tell me more about the day we first met.
-Okay. We first talked during the volleyball rally. I was going to training despite the fact I was not feeling too well.
-Is that so. That's why you're so down when we met, almost ill I dare to say.
-Our training is tough, but we went to the Nationals, so it was totally worth it. — Mishima said, still down.
-Still, I have never seen someone so injured like you. Are you sure about that?
Mishima bowed his head, staring at the ground, wordlessly.
-Mr. Mishima. — Ren called.
-Yes.
-I ask you a question: Are you sure about that?
Mishima was silent but nodded in agreement.
-Witness, answer the question. — The Judge ordered.
-Yes. I'm sure about it. — Mishima answered.
Ren avoided sighing in annoyance, as he saw Mishima avoiding looking at him.
-Defense, the witness is not willing to cooperate. Are you sure you want to continue this cross-examination?
Ren nodded his head in negation.
-No, your Honor. As much I wish the witness to testify, I can't see any flaws in his testimony. "At least, not one I can prove."
-But I can see one.
Everyone's attention went to Sae, who was smirking.
-Mr. Mishima, you said your injuries are because of the training, correct?
-Yes…
-I have your medical charts in my hands. And they indicate your wounds were from physical aggression.
-How do you know that!? — Mishima said nervously, giving a troubled glance at the prosecutor.
-I also did my homework, Mr. Mishima. I got your medical charts from the hospital close to your house. I possess legal access to your chants, especially with a warrant.
Ren looked at Sae and nodded in affirmation.
-Yes, she does possess legal access to your charts if they are relevant to this case.
-Now then, I should ask: Why do you conceal this information in the first place? Unless you're hiding the fact Mr. Kamoshida is physically abusing you. And that your honor is the defendant's motive for committing the crime.
-I will accept this as evidence. — The Judge said. — Now then, how do you explain that, Mr. Amamiya?
The public went into an uproar when Ren slammed the bench, silencing everyone.
-Prosecutor Niijima, I should thank you for proving my point. Because if your claim is true, then Mr. Kamoshida has a lot to explain to us.
-What do you mean, Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked, confused.
-Your Honor, remember Ms. Suzui's medical chart. Several traumas have been found around her entire body. If Mr. Mishima's chart indicates the same thing, then the rumor about Mr. Kamoshida physically abusing the students is true then.
-So that means…!
-Mr. Kamoshida has to explain a few things to us. I demand Mr. Kamoshida testify in court!
Sae's smile widened.
-Well then, why not grant the defense request, your Honor? I'm sure Mr. Amamiya has a good reason for that.
That phrase called Ren's attention, as he erected himself and glanced towards the Sae.
"She's planning something…I need to be careful…"
-Very well. I will give the prosecution a twenty-minute recess to prepare the witness. I do hope this is the last recess I need to call. During that time, I want the defense to prepare yourself to interrogate the witness.
-Yes, your Honor. — Both Sae and Ren said.
-Now the court will adjourn. — The Judge said, hitting his gavel.

Tokyo District Court. Defendant Lobby No 3.

—
-Wow dude, things are tough for ya. — Ryuji commented nervously. — Hey, are you alright? — He asked seeing Ren massaging his temples.
-I will be… You shouldn't worry about me; you should worry about Mishima. He's frightened.
-I can see that.
Both glanced at Mishima who was walking around nervously, mumbling incoherent phrases and cursing.
-Mishima, can you calm yourself down? — Ryuji asked.
-We're screwed. There's no way he can get out of that one. — Mishima said, walking in circles.
-Mishima, can you stop, please? I'm having a damn headache now… — Ren asked, feeling his head hurt.
-Dude, you should stop…
-And get the trial postponed to another day? No. I'll be fine in no time, I just need to relax.
-Are you sure 'bout that? I'm worried about ya…
-I'm sure of it. – Ren picked up the evidence and checked once again. — I'm sure she'll explore something I didn't see during my investigations. Also, we need to get ready if she uses the information we know about the rumors.
-So, that means she…
-Yes. We need to be ready for anything.
-Okay dude.
Ren looked at Mishima and touched his shoulder.
-Hey, relax. I'm going to prove our innocence.
-How? I don't want to hear everything will be alright because it's not going to. Please just stop this.
-I've gone way too far to stop now. Relax Mishima, I'm sure I can do this.
-If you say so. — Mishima sighed. — I'll give you a chance. I'm giving you a chance actually, after all of that.
Ren snickered.
-Yeah, I know.
Then Ren felt another headache. Holding his head with both hands, he sat on the couch feeling his head hurt.
-Hey, are you alright? — Mishima asked.
-Yes, I am. Just feeling this annoying headache.
-Are you sure? — Mishima asked.
-Yes, I am.
Mishima stared at Ren suspiciously and just averted his glance towards Ryuji.
-If you say so…
Ren sighed, massaging his temples again. Feeling his headaches getting worse he drank a painkiller and started to check the evidence once again.
"I need to check the evidence and prepare myself for Kamoshida. Now the second round will begin and I need to get prepared for it." Ren glanced at Mishima and Ryuji. "I can't fail now. I need to go with my all to win this case. To prove our innocence."

—
-Now the court will reconvene. Are both defense and prosecution ready?
-Yes, your Honor. — Sae answered.
-Yes… Ack!
-Mr. Amamiya, are you alright? — The Judge asked.
-Yes, I am. Just an annoying headache, nothing you need to worry about. — Ren answered.
-Are you sure? — Sae asked worriedly.
-Yes, Prosecutor Niijima, I'm sure. Now then, please continue your Honor.
-Very well, if you say you are alright, then I don't see any motive to postpone this trial. Now may the witness take the stand.
Kamoshida went into the courtroom, and took the stand. He looked at the Judge with a huge smile on his face.
-Please state your name and occupation for the register of the court.
-Suguru Kamoshida. I'm the P.E teacher of the Shujin Academy.
-Do you know why are you here, Mr. Kamoshida? — Sae asked.
-No, I was just informed I was called to testify in court. Now, why is he here? — Kamoshida pointed towards Ren.
-I'm the lead defense of this case. Do you possess any issues with that? — Ren asked.
Kamoshida laughed.
-What is so funny? — Ren asked neutral, already expecting that.
-You, a lawyer? That's a good joke. Now then, where is the lead attorney for this case?
-I am the lead attorney of this case. I hope you possess the same sense of humor while I cross-examine you. — Ren said calmly, but with a point of sarcasm on it. Kamoshida pointed at him.
-Why's he here? — He asked furiously.
-As he said, he's the lead attorney of this case.
-Is that so…? Well then, two can play this game. — Kamoshida said, annoyed.
"I was expecting the real Kamoshida to show up in this court. Time to reveal the truth."
Yes, time to bring justice. Arsène said.
Ren felt his head hurt, but he just ignored the pain and called one of the bailiffs, asking respectfully for him to bring a glass of cold water.
"Now is not the time for that. I need to endure it."
-Mr. Amamiya, you look pale, are you alright? — The Judge asked.
-Yes, I am your Honor. Just a little headache, that's all.
-I'm truly concerned with your well-being, Mr. Amamiya. Are you sure you can keep going? — Sae asked.
-Yes, I am. — Ren nodded his head.
-Now then. Mr. Kamoshida, please testify about the rumor you have been physically abusing your students.
-Is that a joke? How can I physically abuse my students? If there's anyone to blame here is Amamiya-san here. He's the one with a criminal record after all.
-!
Ren noticed Sae's face quickly twisted in anger and went back to normal.
"Did she… She doesn't like it. But why did she care about it?"
-How can you be sure about that, Mr. Kamoshida?
-I do have proof it was him, Sakamoto, and Mishima who abused Suzui-san.
The public went into another uproar as they commented about it. The Judge hit his gavel, calming down.
-Order! Order! Order in the court! Mr. Kamoshida, are you sure about it?
-Yes. I saw them doing it.
-And you didn't call the police!? — Sae asked furiously.
-I didn't have any proof until now. That's why I couldn't call the police.
-I see. Please testify about it.
-Of course. — Kamoshida closed his eyes, as he recalled the events of the day. — It was the day before Suzui tried to take her own life. Amamiya ambushed her in the courtyard. He forced her to come to the janitor's closet after that. There Mishima and Sakamoto went inside. I couldn't say what they did inside it, but I'm sure they abused her. Once they were done with her, they exited without anyone seeing them, except for me. I thought it was nothing since I couldn't prove it.
-That's all?
-That's all.
Ren slammed the bench furiously.
-Why didn't you tell anyone about it!? Especially the police!? — Ren questioned.
-Well, I felt threatened by you.
-You felt threatened!? — Sae exclaimed, surprised and furious as well.
The Judge hit the gavel.
-Mr. Amamiya, as much as I know you are indulged with that, I do suggest you leave all your questions to your cross-examination.
-Yes, your Honor. — Ren closed his eyes and breathed deeply, trying to ignore the pain in his head and to focus on the cross-examination. — Now then, repeat your testimony.
-Of course. It was the day before Suzui tried to take her own life. Amamiya ambushed her in the courtyard.
-Hold it! How can you be sure it was me?
-It's quite impossible to miss you with that fuzzy hair of yours. Besides, everyone saw you two talking with each other.
"He meant the moment he bumped into each other." Ren thought.
-Besides, it was quite a forced act when you bumped into her. I dare to say you saw her as your next target.
-Perhaps it was for you. I had never met Ms. Suzui before until that day.
-So, you met the victim that day, correct? — Sae asked.
-Yes, I did. — Ren answered.
-I see. Please witness, continue your testimony.
-He forced her to come to the janitor's closet after that. There Mishima and Sakamoto went inside. — Kamoshida said.
-Hold it! How did you see us coming to that closet? I mean, I thought you were busy.
-I was going to my office. I dare say it was too obvious you dragged her. I saw you from the other side of the building when no one was looking.
-How can you be sure about it?
-As I said before, it's quite hard to not recognize you, and also, I know Suzui-san, so I recognized her right away.
-About dragging her… How can you say she was dragged?
-After she exited the closet, I saw a bandage over her wrist, as someone grabbed tightly. I asked her the next day about it, but she didn't answer me.
"She possesses a lot of wounds and abrasion over her body. And it's clear it was him, but should I approach this point? No, better get more information and a better spot to explore it."
-I see. Well, continue if you please.
-I couldn't say what they did inside it, but I'm sure they abused her. Once they were done they exited without anyone seeing them, except for me. I thought it was nothing since I couldn't prove it.
-Hold it! About your last statement… Why do you say you can't prove it?
-Well, I don't possess any proof to support my claim. Besides, it was my word against yours.
"You're too sure for it, almost like… he knows I have been investigated. That's a dangerous move from him. Should I press further? …Better not. That line of questioning is way too dangerous for me to explore it."
-I see…
"Dammit, his testimony is too vague, and he can easily prove his point without much effort. At times like that, I need to revise all the testimony and ask once again."
Ren closed his eyes and looked at Kamoshida.
"Wait, he said that he doesn't possess proof. But if that is the case."
-About the last statement again, you are saying your testimony will be invalid because you don't possess proof, right? How can you be sure about it? I mean I have a criminal record and with the records of Mr. Sakamoto, I dare to say, your word is more valid than anything.
Kamoshida started to get nervous, but he gave an assuring smile.
-Well, can you blame an honest citizen for doing his duty? Besides, even if that's the case, without any proof, my word is useless.
"Nice move. Nice move indeed. But not an efficient one."
-However, you could have made a statement. You could've called the police, or even Mr. Kobayakawa in order to investigate. For you to keep this information hidden so far that only means you're involved.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — The witness does have the right to stay silent if necessary. Besides, any baseless accusations will result in a penalty. Do you think you can bluff here?
Ren smiled and shook his head in negative.
-No, I know I can't and I didn't plan to. I only pointed to an awful detail in his testimony. Only that.
-I see. Well, continue your testimony. — Sae said.
-Okay. As I said I couldn't say what they did inside it, but I'm sure they abused her. Once they were done, they exited without anyone seeing them, except for me.
-Hold it! Care to explain your statement?
-I was watching the area when I noticed Sakamoto and Mishima went inside the janitor's cabinet. At first, I thought they're just ganging up for dubious actions, but after seeing you grabbing her by her wrist into the janitor's closet.
-So did you see us going into the cabinet…
-Yes, not only that, I'm sure you three sexually abused her.
-How can you be so sure about it?
-I saw several scars over Suzui-san's body.
-Several… scars? — Ren asked.
-Yes. Scars, especially around her arms and torso. And I saw you rubbing your arm.
-My… Arm?
-Yes, as she has dug her nails in your skin.
"That is!"
-Your Honor, I demand the witness to amend the last statement into his testimony, I do believe it's important.
-Do you mind adding this last statement in your testimony?
-No, I don't mind.
-Very well. Mr. Kamoshida, your testimony if you please.
-I saw several scars on Suzui-san's body, especially around her arms and torso. And I saw you rubbing your arm, as she dug her nails into your skin.
-Objection! — Ren shouted. — Mr. Kamoshida, on that part of your testimony, you were awfully specific, as if you know what happened with Ms. Suzui.
-And what's the problem with that? I just stated what I saw.
-I do possess the medical charts of Ms. Suzui, also an updated biopsy report, and according to them, unknown traces of DNA were found under her nails.
-And what's the problem? — Kamoshida asked.
-Your description matches with her biopsy report description. It's too accurate for someone who only saw from a certain distance, and that is considering your view is clear from and obstructed no less. I dare say, it was almost like you know what happened.
-What!? — Kamoshida exclaimed, starting to sweat nervously.
-That's right! You know what happened because you more than saw it.
-Are you implying I did it!? — Kamoshida asked.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Mr. Amamiya, as much as I agree it is odd the witness knows so much about the wounds of Ms. Suzui. I need to remind you; you can't prove it was Mr. Kamoshida who did it.
-Yes, I know that. Still, it's an odd fact that Mr. Kamoshida knows a lot about Ms. Suzui's wounds. I do demand further testimony from the witness.
-You can't demand anything from me. It was you, Sakamoto and Mishima, I'm sure of it. After all, you three had reason to get revenge towards me.
The public commented nervously as Ren stared with a neutral frown towards Kamoshida.
"What's he planning?" Ren thought massaging his temples, feeling his head aching even more.
-Why are you so insistent about Mr. Kamoshida? — The Judge asked.
-Because I know the reason Amamiya wants his little vendetta towards me. It was because someone shared the fact you possess a criminal record, and he thought it was me who did it.
-Oh my! Mr. Amamiya do you have suspicion towards Mr. Kamoshida?
-Yes, your Honor. I do have, as well I do have towards Ms. Kawakami, Mr. Ushimaru, and all the teachers and the principal of the Shujin Academy. All of them know about my situation and all of them are the prime suspects in this case. Unfortunately, I can't trust them.
-I see. Well, witness, I do believe you could testify about the suspicions of Mr. Amamiya and the defendants' reason for revenge.
-Yes, I can testify about it. It was simple actually: Both three have plausible reasons to take revenge against me. Sakamoto's reason was because of the case when he tried to assault me. Amamiya was because someone spread about his criminal records towards the school and Mishima was because he couldn't keep the pack, so he decided to take revenge against me. That's why they assaulted Suzui-san.
-Mr. Amamiya, it seems the testimony it's pretty solid.
-It seems like it, however, we'll see if that holds water.
-Very well. Mr. Amamiya, your cross-examination if you please. — The Judge said.
-Okay. First of all, please repeat the second part. — Ren asked.
-Sakamoto's reason was because of the case when he tried to assault me.
-Hold it! He tried to assault you; you say? However, as established in court it wasn't a mere case of self-defense.
-What can I say? You weren't there to see what really happened. — Said Kamoshida.
-That's not entirely true, Mr. Sakamoto's charts tell me another story of what really happened and according to the evidence, I can tell it was a case of physical aggression.
-What!? Are you mad?
-No, I'm not.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Mr. Amamiya, that point of questioning is irrelevant. The real issue here is to establish if these reasons are valid or not, so you simply can't define the reason Mr. Kamoshida attacked Mr. Sakamoto if he really attacked Mr. Sakamoto. As far as we know, it was a case of self-defense, and moreover, that's not directed to this case, at least not directly.
-I agree with the prosecution. Defense, your line of questioning is irrelevant. Witness, please continue your testimony. — The Judge said.
-Amamiya was because someone spread about his criminal records towards the school and Mishima was because he couldn't keep the pack, so he decided to take revenge against me.
-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — Mr. Kamoshida, what do you mean Mr. Mishima couldn't keep the pack? Please elaborate to me.
-Can't you see it? It's obvious he couldn't keep the rhythm. He's lazy, without focus, it's a shame since he possesses a lot of potential.
"Or he is just afraid of you… Gawk!"
-Mr. Amamiya, are you alright? — The Judge asked.
-Yes, I am your honor. — Ren said, gritting his teeth.
-Well, I'm sure Mishima could've done better to get his revenge after me, after all, he's had the motive to put you against me.
-!
"I need to press further. I know what to do."
-Please continue your testimony. — Ren asked.
-Amamiya was because someone spread about his criminal records towards the school and Mishima was because he couldn't keep the pack, so he decided to take revenge against me. — Kamoshida stated.
-Hold it! Witness, there is a certain thing I always find odd about these rumors about me.
-And what is it?
-It's how they've spread so fast, almost like someone was desperate for everyone to know.
-What're you implying?
-Nothing for now, but it's strange, and considering the number of people who know about my situation, it's quite clear it was at least one of the teachers.
-Why'd you say that? Is not that strange, after all, a quick search through the internet can show your criminal record.
-True. However it was the intention to keep my probation a secret in order for me to have a normal student life, also the principal vowed to keep this solely with the crew of the Shujin. One of the teachers leaked the information. That's the most obvious possibility.
-But it doesn't make sense to me. Why would a teacher do that?
-I was asking myself the same thing.
-And the answer is quite obvious: It was a student.
-A student?
-Yes. Someone close to the principal or to the staff.
-You meant the Student President Council, right?
-Objection! That's baseless conjecture! — Sae shouted furiously.
-It's his allegations, not mine. — Ren said. — Mr. Kamoshida, why do you think it was a student?
-It's obvious it was a student. I mean, why would a teacher do that? Besides, I said it was someone with a good reason for that.
-You said it was someone with a good reason… Care to explain?
Kamoshida sighed and shook his head in negation.
-How stupid can you be? That's you get to spend too much time with Sakamoto.
-Hey! You—
Ren pounded the bench furiously.
-Witness, refrain yourself.
-You get offended? Why it wasn't like I insulted you or something.
-You insinuated. Don't try to play smart with me, otherwise, you'll regret it.
-That's a big word for someone in your situation. Now I can say it's relevant. It was obvious it was a student, and it's easy to determine who it is.
-So you know who it is?
-Yes.
-Please add this statement to your testimony.
-Why not? It wasn't like you could change anything. As I said, it had to be a student. And it was someone with a good reason for that.
-Hold it! Someone with a good reason, right? You mean…
-It was obvious it's Mishima. He was the only one with such capabilities for doing that.
-Why did Mishima do such a thing? It is not the usual, and I need to admit it's rather odd.
-It was obvious it was him. I mean, he possesses all the reasons to do it. His role at the team was in jeopardy since he couldn't keep track of the team and moreover, he knows the forum will keep his anonymity. He's the only one who can do it.
-So, if it was him, how do you know?
-You still can't see it… he knows how the forum works and it was quite easy for him to get the information about you.
-With that leads to the next question: How do you know that? As far as I can see, it's odd for someone to know that much.
-Now you mentioned it, I remember the forum was anonymous, correct? — The Judge asked.
-It is. I asked my sister and she can confirm the school forum it's anonymous, so the question remains: How do you know it was Mr. Mishima, Mr. Kamoshida? — Sae asked. — No one said it was him. No one.
-Except you. — Ren concluded.
Kamoshida started to sweat nervously.
-I-I-I heard him commenting to Amamiya.
-I barely talked to him. And it's odd for him to know about it, especially in such a small amount of time. And considering all the connections the only one who can do it was you.
-Why you…!
-Objection! Defense, you don't have to prove which relates Mr. Kamoshida with Mr. Mishima.
-But I do have proof.
-What!? — Sae exclaimed.
-What!? — Kamoshida exclaimed, surprised.
-Yes, I do have proof.
-Well then Mr. Amamiya, present your proof. — The Judge said.
-Here!
-Mr. Mishima and Mr. Suzui medical charts? — The Judge asked, confused.
-Yes.
-Two pieces of evidence at the same time, why? — Sae asked, also confused.
-The answer is quite simple: Notice the pattern the wounds of both Mr. Mishima and Ms. Suzui have.
Sae started to sweat nervously.
-You wouldn't…!
-I will. It was you, Mr. Kamoshida, wasn't it? You forced Mr. Mishima to publish my criminal record in the school forum.
-What!?
-It's clear right here. You forced him by physically abusing him. Once it's a coincidence, twice it's a pattern, thrice it's certain.
-You can't be sure of it! — Sae exclaimed.
-I'm sure of it. — Ren said feeling his head hurt even more.
"Not now. Please…"
-Defense, please elaborate your argument. — The Judge asked.
-Yes, your Honor. — Ren said, showing Ryuji medical charts. — Remember what I told you about Mr. Sakamoto's medical chart.
-Yes, it was a case of self-defense, really odd.
-It wasn't. The wound was deliberately strong in order to break Mr. Sakamoto's leg.
-So are you implying…
-Yes. Mr. Kamoshida, you did it, didn't you?
-You bastard… — Kamoshida growled.
The audience commented as they saw Kamoshida lose his composure. The Judge hit the gavel silencing everyone.
-Order! I will have an order here! Mr. Kamoshida I'd suggest you have some respect towards Mr. Amamiya. Mr. Amamiya, you have brought a valid point.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Even with that, he doesn't possess evidence that relates Mr. Kamoshida directly to them, only circumstantial evidence.
-Even that's the case, you didn't deny he is somehow related. — Ren said.
-I concede that point to you. However, I can't say he's not related.
-What side are you on!? — Kamoshida questioned.
-I'm on the side of justice, Mr. Kamoshida. I don't take anyone's side if that's what you want to know. — Sae replied. — Now, Mr. Amamiya raised a valid point: How'd you know it was Mr. Mishima who leaked Mr. Amamiya's criminal record?
-Uh… Well…
-Answer the question witness! — Ren demanded.
-Is that a threat? — Kamoshida asked.
-Just an order, not a threat.
-I… I remain in my right to stay silent.
-If so, you're collaborating with the defense thesis. — Sae said
-Still, I remain with my right.
-If you don't explain yourself, I'll arrest you for physical aggression and abuse.
-W-Well. I-I heard him talking with Sakamoto about it.
-That's bullshit! You're lyin'! — Ryuji yelled.
-Ryuji, calm down! — Mishima said, trying to calm the blonde punk.
-He's lyin'! That's a lot of bull. He told us it was Mishima!
Everyone went into an uproar and the Judge hit his gavel.
"Thanks a lot, moron!" Ren thought. "This will make things difficult."
-Order, I will have order! Defense, what is the meaning of this!? — The Judge asked.
-Your Honor… I can explain this issue.
-Of course, you can. — Kamoshida provoked.
-Mr. Kamoshida? — The Judge asked, surprised.
-He didn't tell you? He and his friends threatened me in my office.
-What!? — Both the Judge and Sae exclaimed.
-Yes. Those three threatened me in my office on the day Suzui-san tried to kill herself. Especially Sakamoto who injured me.
-You liar! — Ryuji yelled.
-Is that true? — The Judge asked Ren.
-I can confirm we went to his office, especially Ryuji. However, I need to say Mr. Kamoshida was not injured that day, your Honor.
-You can't confirm that…
-I can.
-What!? How!?
-If you were injured, we wouldn't be here, correct. After all, Mr. Sakamoto received a good warning from the school council. Or did you forget that day we arrived late?
Kamoshida started to sweat.
-You're bluffing.
-I'm not bluffing. We can simply access Mr. Sakamoto's records.
-I'd have his records with me. May I present them to the court? — Sae asked.
-Yes, you can present Prosecutor Niijima. — The Judge said.
Sae nodded and took from her briefcase a folder full of documents.
-Here's all the school documentation of Mr. Sakamoto. According to his school records, he does possess some fair warnings about his behavior, even some warnings about getting expelled from Shujin. Obviously, if he tried anything towards Mr. Kamoshida, well, as Mr. Amamiya said, he'll be expelled at the time he threatened Mr. Kamoshida or anyone with violent behavior. — Sae said.
-As I have proven before, Mr. Sakamoto didn't possess violent behavior, except for the incident in that case of "self-defense" of Mr. Kamoshida. — Ren amended.
-And what? That doesn't prove anything.
-Well, that proves you're the one who could do it. And more.
-What? There's more!?
-If it was you who forced Mr. Mishima to leak my criminal record on the internet, you're in huge trouble now.
-What!?
-You forced a student to leak information about another student, without the consent of Principal Kobayakawa no less, that's a crime and a violation of the privacy of my person, even if that wasn't the case. Not only that, you physically abuse him, which consists of another crime.
-What do you want? For me to confess my crimes? For your information, I didn't do anything wrong. — Kamoshida said with a smile. — Or do you have proof aside from the evidence you presented?
Ren shook his head.
-No. I don't have any.
-See? You have…
-Still, you've lied to us. Lying in court also consists of crime. And that allows me to make another cross-examination.
-What!? You've finished…
-I not done with you yet.
-You—
-You listen up! I. Haven't. Done. With. You. You lied to this court, and I'll make you testify in this court. Argh…!
-Are you okay, Mr. Amamiya? — Sae asked as she saw Ren massaging his temples.
-I am. Don't worry about me, Prosecutor Niijima, I will be alright.
-You don't look fine. Is the guilt consuming you? — Kamoshida asked.
-As if. I didn't do anything wrong, and I'm here to prove it. — Ren answered.
-I have my doubts, but I'm sure you're guilty. Otherwise why did you decide to solve this in court?
-You think I was planning to run away, don't you? Well my deepest apologies, but I never run from a fight. That's one of my convictions.
-A doubtful conviction for someone with a criminal record.
-But not a bad one. Now then, since you know too much about it, you should testify about it. How do you know so much about it, how do you know about Ms. Suzui's wounds?
-What are you saying!? I don't know anything.
-Objection! — Ren pounded the bench. — You know. You know because it was you!
-Mr. Amamiya, are you…! — The Judge asked.
-Yes. Mr. Suguru Kamoshida, I indict you for the physical abuse and the suicide attempt of Ms. Shiho Suzui!
The public went into an uproar, everyone commenting about the indictment of Ren towards Kamoshida.
-Objection! — Sae shouted, slamming the bench with both hands. — That indictment is unfounded.
-Unfounded!? Did you see how he's reacting? It's obvious it is him who is the true culprit of this case.
-Objection! True culprit? You now truly sounded like your mentor Phoenix Wright. Do you truly believe it was him?
-Seeing how much he knows, of course. See? It's obvious it was him.
-Even with that you only possess circumstantial evidence, you need direct evidence to relate him to this case.
"Damn… She's giving me trouble… And this headache is killing me… Dammit! Why can't things be easy!?" Ren thought.
-Still, I demand him to testify of how he knows so much about it.
-I don't have anything to say. Now if you excuse me… — Kamoshida said walking away.
-You're not going away that easy.
To their surprise, it was Sae who said it.
-What!? Prosecutor Niijima, aren't you…?
-You still have a few things to explain to us. Especially about how you know so much about this case.
-Are you saying I still have to testify about it?
-Yes, you do have to testify.
-Why do I need to testify when the truth is right in front of you. It was those three, that's the truth.
-And what about all the inconsistencies in court? How'd you explain that? — Ren asked.
-It's simple. You manipulated evidence.
-Objection! I'd never ever manipulated evidence in my life. You can check my records if you want to. Now stop dodging the subject and start testifying! Ren said, pointing at Kamoshida.
-Fine, if you want it that way. — Kamoshida said with a wide grin. — It all started when I saw you talking with Suzui-san. I knew something was up so I decided to follow her. I saw her walking around the bridge that connects the two buildings when she meets you, Mishima, and Sakamoto. You three ambushed her and dragged her to the Practice Building. I couldn't see anything strange at first, but after that, I saw more closely I knew I should've done anything. You three abused her I'm sure of it. After all, why did she try to kill herself in the first place?
-So, even if you suspected us, you let us go? Why? — Ren asked.
-Well, I thought you're just having a good chat with her. — Kamoshida replied with a smile. — Besides, I thought you were making friends, isn't that something a high schooler does?
"Until you ruined my reputation. He's dangerous but way too overconfident. I need to exploit this the most I can."
-Well, then your cross-examination Mr. Amamiya.
-Yes, your Honor. Witness, repeat your testimony.
-All started when I saw you talking with Suzui-san.
-Hold it! So, you saw us, right?
-Yes. I need to say it was quite inconvenient for her. I mean, talking with a criminal…
-Still, I barely exchanged a few words with her. I dare say, for someone who looks for the well-being of your students, she looked pretty bad. — Ren provoked.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Your Honor, the defense is badgering the witness, drifting from the original purpose of his questioning.
-Objection sustained. Defense, you better behave yourself.
-Yes your honor. Back to the topic, you saw us talking. What happened next?
-I knew something was acting up so I decided to follow her.
-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — So, you followed her?
-Yes.
-Did you notice anything strange with her behavior?
-No, she looked okay to me.
-Are you certain about it? Anything can be useful.
-Well, yes. She looked fine to me.
"This is no good. I can't press him without a good line of questioning, and analyzing him is tough with this damn headache! I need to recover, and fast."
-Is that all, may I continue my testimony? — Kamoshida asked. — I hate to waste everyone's time talking about useless things.
-Yes, if you please. — The Judge said.
-I saw her walking around the bridge that connects the two buildings when she meets you, Mishima, and Sakamoto.
-Hold it! Are you certain of that?
-Yes, I'm sure of it. I saw you three walking towards the Practice Building with Suzui-san.
-Can you prove it?
-I saw it, okay, I don't need proof. Unless the testimony of the volleyball team isn't enough proof.
"An entire team against me!? Sounds fishy!"
-An entire team's testimony? I think it sounds fishy.
"You took the words from my mouth, Prosecutor Niijima. You took the words from my mouth."
-I thought all testimony was reliable.
-Depending on the situation of the team. As Mr. Amamiya proved, the team testimony is no longer valid, since two of the members possess the same wounds and bruises over their bodies, or do you think I don't know about the rumors of Shujin?
"He looks furious, as much as he doesn't show it."
-And what? The team can prove my testimony.
"Is there a way for me to prove I wasn't there?" Ren thought while looking over the evidence. "Dammit, I knew I should've recorded my conversation with Ann and… That's it!"
-I can prove we weren't in the Practice Building.
-What!? How!?
-Simple, do I need to remind you of Ms. Takamaki's testimony.
-That's right. — The Judge said surprised. — She testified she met Mr. Amamiya twice before the incident. One of them was at the station's entrance in Aoyama. The other was…
-The day before the attempt of Ms. Suzui to take her own life. Needless to say, you can ask the attendant of the Big Bang Burger of Shibuya District about us.
-Do you have…?
-Proof? Her testimony is my proof, and also, it was proven.
-How?
-Ms. Takamaki received a call from you. If I remember correctly, she alleged she wasn't feeling well.
-And what?
-At the same moment, according to Mr. Mishima's testimony, he called Ms. Suzui. You made that favor for me, Prosecutor Niijima, remember?
Sae quickly understood what Ren meant and started to sweat nervously.
-So, that means!?
-Yes! On that day, each one of us had a rock-solid alibi! And if that wasn't enough, I can simply show my and Mr. Sakamoto and Mr. Mishima GPS location from our phones, and also we can ask for the cell company to track our steps on that day. That can prove our whereabouts. That leaves the only person who could've done anything to her. And it was you, Mr. Kamoshida!
-And how do you know about this supposed call between you and Ms. Takamaki, huh? — Kamoshida asked.
-The answer is simple: She yelled for everyone to hear. She talked about Ms. Suzui starting position.
-How do you…!
Kamoshida started to sweat nervously as he noticed his mistake.
-Care to explain that, Mr. Kamoshida? I'll be waiting for a good explanation for your part.
-You…
Sae slammed the bench and looked at Ren with a furious glance.
-That alone doesn't prove anything. — Sae said.
-True, but all his testimonies crumbled and fell apart. One after another. All of them are lies. Mr. Kamoshida, confess: It was you.
To Ren's surprise, he laughed.
-That was a nice one, but you're forgetting something.
-Oh, is that so. Care to tell me what I am forgetting?
-Two things actually. The first one is my motive. The second one it's proof I'm related directly to that case. Without that, your argument it's useless.
"I've proven far enough, and yet, he doesn't fall. I need him to confess, even if by accident."
-Still, you lied to us. I demand you to testify about your meeting with Ms. Suzui…
"Not now…! Please…"
-Mr. Kamoshida, testify about your meeting with Ms. Suzui.
-Yes, your Honor. Indeed I called Suzui-san to my office. She came a few minutes later after I sent Mishima to call her. We talked about her starting position as Amamiya said earlier. Nothing happened that day, or do you have proof saying otherwise?
-Mr. Amamiya? — The Judge asked.
-Yes, your Honor?
-Are you sure you want to continue? I'm worried about your well-being.
-I want to continue, your Honor. Don't worry about me. I'll be alright.
-Okay, if you insist on continuing. Your cross-examination Mr. Amamiya, if you please.
-Yes, your Honor. — Ren said, nodding his head. — Your testimony Mr. Kamoshida.
-Okay. Indeed I called Suzui-san to my office.
-Hold it! When you meant you called her…
-I sent Mishima to call her.
-Was Mr. Mishima acting strangely when you sent him?
-No, I didn't notice anything strange in his behavior.
-I see.
-I do believe Mr. Mishima was in his training since Mr. Kamoshida sent him to call Ms. Suzui. You've proven that defense. Or do you want to disprove it? — Sae said.
"Pressing this point is useless. Time to move forward."
-Witness, continue your testimony. — The Judge said.
-Yes. She came a few minutes later after I sent Mishima to call her.
-Hold it! She came a few minutes later. Did something happen between that time?
-Nothing important, just a few requests from Principal Kobayakawa.
-The Principal confirmed that. Mr. Kamoshida was busy planning the new tactics of the volleyball team. Or do you have proof saying otherwise? — Sae asked.
"Another point I can't explore…" Ren thought.
-I do not see anything relevant here Mr. Amamiya. Witness, continue if you please. — The Judge said.
-We talked about her starting position as Amamiya said earlier.
-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — Ms. Suzui starting position.
-Yes? There's something wrong with it?
-Did you use Ms. Suzui's starting position in order to press Ms. Takamaki to make your wishes?
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Mr. Amamiya, that line of questioning is out of the question. You're only pressing the witness in order to archive your acquittal, forcing the witness to answer a tricky question.
-Objection sustained. Mr. Amamiya, I suggest you not press the witness with unnecessary questions.
-I do understand, your Honor.
-Relax. If I'm here, the answer should be obvious. I'd never use my position to abuse the students of Shujin. — Kamoshida said with a smile.
"I really doubt that." Ren thought, seeing Kamoshida with his usual smile.
-Witness, continue your testimony.
-As I said, nothing happened that day, or do you have proof saying otherwise?
-Hold it! —Ren shouted. — Even so, I really doubt you're innocent on this matter.
-Even with that "evidence", you don't have proof I did anything with Suzui-san. — Kamoshida said, his grin widened.
-No, but…
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Defense, I do suggest stopping badgering the witness. If you don't possess proof, you can't simply accuse him of abusing Ms. Suzui. It's over.
-Objection sustained.
"Dammit, I couldn't prove his guilt! It's over? I can't do anything?"
-Well, it seems like you couldn't prove anything.
"I came that far to only stop here?"
-Sir!
To their surprise, Gumshoe rushed towards the door, sweating tiredly.
-Detective Gumshoe what is the meaning of this? — The Judge asked, surprised.
-Sir, sorry for interrupting the trial, but the results of the DNA test were released.
-So soon!?
-The results came, but unfortunately the traces on the nails were inconclusive. They simply weren't enough to get a match, since they were contaminated when the medics cleaned her wounds. Sorry, pal.
"Dammit! Our only proof is gone and the test on Suzui panties will take time to get ready. That leaves Kamoshida…"
-Well, it seems like you can't prove it wasn't you three. My bad! — Kamoshida said with a huge grin.
"No, I can't let it end here! I need to continue! Argh!"
Ren grabbed his head with both hands and closed his eyes tightly in pain.
-Looks like you lose, you scum.
"Huh?"
To Ren's surprise, he saw Shadow Kamoshida looking at him with an evil grin.
-Do you really think you could take me down? Are you too stupid?
"My vision changed! But why?"
-Mr. Amamiya are you alright? — Sae asked.
Ren looked at her and saw the place was the courtroom, but he could see Shadow Kamoshida.
"Why can I see him out of his Palace?" Ren asked himself, seeing the distortion of the Metaverse around the place. "I can see the Metaverse, but I know I'm not in. What's happening?"
-Are you alright? Did your loss affect your orientation? — Kamoshida mocked.
"Kamoshida… Why I…"
Is something wrong? Arsène asked.
"I can see Kamoshida and his Shadow. What is happening to me?"
-Mr. Amamiya, are you alright? — The Judge asked. — If your headaches are getting worse he can ask for a recess.
-Yes. I want a five-minute recess to organize my evidence, your Honor.
-Very well. That's the last recess of the day. The court will adjourn.
—
April 25, Monday.
Tokyo District Court. Defendant Lobby Noº 3.
15:55
—
-Dude are you alright? — Ryuji asked.
-Yes, I am. Now I am… — Ren answered. — Did you see Ann anywhere?
-Dude, she…
-Hey, are you alright? — Ann asked, entering the lobby.
-Yes. Actually, something strange happened. I saw Kamoshida's Shadow.
-What!? — Ryuji and Ann yelled.
-Quiet down! — Ren ordered. — I saw the distortions of the Metaverse, actually the feeling was odd, it was I was and I wasn't in the Metaverse.
-How that can be?
-That… was Morgana? — Ren asked.
-Hey.
Sojiro came with Morgana in the bag.
-Sojiro, why are you…?
-I decided to come to see how you're doing and I decided to bring him along. Here, you can have it. — Sojiro said, giving Ren's bag to him.
-Thank you.
-Are you alright? You seem to have a hell of a headache. — Sojiro commented.
-I am now. Can I talk with Ryuji and Ann alone? I need to check something with them.
-Okay. I'll be waiting outside.
Sojiro left the lobby and Ren took Morgana from his bag.
-I saw you looking at Kamoshida incredulously. And now you're saying you saw him and his Shadow. Are you sure of it? — Morgana asked with a serious frown.
-Yes I am. He was acting as… Actually, my headaches stopped when I saw his Shadow. — Ren whispered.
-You think it's related in some way? — Ann asked.
-Yes. Actually, when I had these headaches my vision quickly became blurry and I could see things. See things I couldn't see before. Now I can see his Shadow.
-As you could see his true self or somethin'? — Ryuji asked, confused.
-Yeah… Like in the mythologies. Heimdall, Linceu… those characters possess a special vision that allows them to see beyond.
-Do you think you, maybe…? — Morgana asked hopefully.
-Maybe I can use this in my favor.
-Defense and defendants, the court will reconvene.
-It's time to go. Wish me luck.
-We will.
"The vision of truth… Maybe I can crack him with that."
—
Tokyo District Court. Courtroom Noº 4.
16:00
—
-Now the court will reconvene. Mr. Amamiya.
-Yes, your Honor? — Ren asked.
-You still have one more chance to prove your point. I'd hope you can have evidence to prove your point. — The Judge said.
-Yes, your Honor.
-Now then witness, testify once again.
-Yes, your Honor.
"I can't fail now. I need to use that new ability of mine the best I can."
-Indeed I called Suzui-san to my office.
-Hold it! You did call Ms. Suzui, correct? By sending Mr. Mishima, correct?
-Yes, there's any problem with it?
"How should I approach? Maybe using an ambiguous approach should be better."
-Did Mr. Mishima's behavior call your attention or not? Was he acting strange?
-No he didn't. After all, no one dares to go after me.
-So, he was acting normal?
-Yes. That scum did not go against me. Or do you think he rebelled against me?
-I see. Please continue your testimony.
-She came a few minutes later after I sent Mishima to call her.
-Hold it! — Ren shouted. — So, she came a few minutes later. Did she act strangely?
-No, nothing I could see. At least nothing has been worth my attention.
-So, you hadn't noticed anything strange.
-Nothing. Nothing you can prove it at least.
"He's slimmer than I thought. Time to change my approach."
-So she wasn't acting strange. That's odd when I met her she looked down, as she wasn't happy with her situation.
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Perhaps you should stop harassing the witness. The victim perhaps was on a bad day, like you when you arrived at Shujin with Mr. Sakamoto.
-Now she mentioned it, indeed Ms. Suzui was down that day. That little bitch wasn't worthy of my time, at least until that moment. — Shadow Kamoshida laughed.
-So, she was on a bad day, huh?
"She knew she'd be physically abused. That's why she was down… But how to prove it? Without him confessing will be useless."
Shadow Kamoshida smiled as he looked at Ren.
-What's wrong? Can't you prove your point? Well, my bad.
Shadow Kamoshida laughed louder as the real Kamoshida smiled.
-What's wrong? Can't you prove your point?
"That's it! I know how to make him confess. Time to take him down!"
-Nothing happened that day, or do you have proof saying otherwise?
-Hold it! You said I can't prove it.
-You don't sound like you do possess any evidence against me.
-Let's raise the possibility I'd possess evidence against you. Just a possibility. What do you say in your defense?
-Objection! — Sae shouted. — Defense, what kind of question is this?
-May I answer that, Prosecutor Niijima? — Kamoshida asked.
-Only if you want to.
-If you do possess evidence why you haven't shown it in the first place? The answer is obvious, you don't possess evidence. You can't prove I raped her.
-Is that so? That doesn't apply to the allegations of physical abuse, I've proven you assaulted her.
-Even if that's true, why don't you have proof that I supposedly abused Suzui-san? The answer is you don't have any. You can't prove I raped her and I wonder if you could prove I really physically abused her.
-Is that so?
-Yes. After all, she couldn't resist me.
-Why do you say that?
-It should be obvious. She tried to dig her nails in my skin and I treated her in the same way.
-How is it obvious?
-Are you stupid? It's obvious. I attacked her with all my strength. She tried to resist but I put her in her place.
-Your Honor, I want the witness to add this last statement into his testimony.
-Mr. Kamoshida, can you add this last statement into your testimony?
-Of course, I can. — Kamoshida said with a smile. — It should be obvious the reason I didn't assault her.
-Hold it! And what is?
-I never assaulted her in the first place.
-So, how do you explain her wounds? She couldn't get severely hurt just by the training.
-The answer should be obvious, it was Mishima.
-What!? — Mishima exclaimed.
-Why Mishima? — Ren asked.
-He's the only one who could do it in a space of time of minutes.
-So, are you implying it was him?
-Of course, it was him. You don't have proof saying otherwise. — Shadow Kamoshida laughed. — Or can you prove otherwise? — Both Kamoshida and his Shadow asked.
"Now it's the time, can I prove it? Time to revise everything and make him slip on his tongue."
Ren closed his eyes and revised the case mentally. After a minute he realized what he needed to do.
"That's it! His medal is the key!"
-Mr. Kamoshida, can you repeat the part of the starting position?
-Okay, why not? We talked about her starting position as Amamiya said earlier.
-Hold it! You two talked about Ms. Suzui starting position. Did something happen during your conversation?
-Nothing in particular, except she fell.
-Ms. Suzui fell? — Ren asked doubtfully.
-Yes. Suzui was surprised when I told her I will replace her from her position on the main team.
-So she fell.
-Yes.
-Did she get hurt when she fell?
-Unfortunately yes. Oh, she fell. She fell from my charm because everyone loves me. Or do you have something to prove otherwise?
-Well, what do her wounds look like?
-What?
-You said Mr. Mishima attacked her. If that's true, you would at least question her about her wounds when she fell.
-! What do you…
-You claimed she fell and got wounded. Was she wounded before?
-Err… Well.
-Mr. Kamoshida, answer the question! — Sae said seriously.
-Yes. I questioned Suzui about her wounds. She said she was attacked by Mishima with a blunt object.
-A blunt object?
-Yes, it was a round object, like a medal. My medal, but you can't prove it.
Ren smiled and Sae realized.
-You…
-Mr. Kamoshida.
-Did I say something wrong? — He asked.
-For someone who was sure of who wasn't involved, you're quite arrogant.
-What!?
-Yes. You're arrogant, too arrogant to make a miserable mistake.
-You…! Scum!
-And there's more.
-There's more!?
-Yes, her wounds don't indicate she fell, according to her biopsy report. And especially you should know that well.
-Yes. She told me Mishima attacked her with a blunt object. And you can't prove it was me. After all, I didn't leave any proof.
-I do have the object in question.
-What!? You're bluffing!
-Let me tell you something about me, Kamoshida. I do not bluff. I bet, and high. Because I know what I should do and I know when I'm right. I do possess the object in question.
-Do you possess the object? Then show it to the court, Mr. Amamiya. — The Judge said. — But if you fail to prove it, I will give you a rigorous penalty.
-I do understand your Honor. To the register to the court, I do present, or in this case, present again this! — Ren said, showing the Olympic Medal.
-! When did you get this!? — Kamoshida asked furiously.
-This, to make a long story short, was a present from an ex-teammate of yours. You should thank him later. Now then, how do you know the object in question? That makes me wonder.
-You!
-I haven't finished. I had a lucky strike to meet your ex-teammate, but that's not my decisive evidence.
-What do you mean? — Sae asked.
-Mrs. Ayumi Suzui found decisive evidence, and I asked Detective Gumshoe to send it to analysis.
-You said that when he collected your DNA sample. What is that evidence you are talking about?
-Ms. Shiho Suzui panties.
-!
-Unknown traces of a substance were found according to the mother of the victim, and I asked Gumshoe to check as well. He said it was unknown traces of DNA.
-So in that case…
-Yes. I asked him to compare our DNA to the sample found in the panties.
-If that is the case, I will ask the detective to bring the results.
-Very well. You may call him Prosecutor Niijima.
After ten minutes, Gumshoe came breathing heavily with a huge grin.
-Detective Gumshoe, do you possess the results?
-Yes, sir! As Mr. Amamiya said traces of DNA were found on Ms. Suzui's panties.
-And the results are?
-It has traces of semen, and the samples of the defendants don't match with the sample found in Ms. Suzui panties.
-What!? Are you sure of it? — Sae asked seriously.
-Yes, I even asked the forensic team to remake the test and the results were the same. The sample was from a single person.
-! So…
-Mr. Kamoshida. If I were you I would confess my crimes. Otherwise, that might end badly for you.
-What are you saying!? I haven't done anything wrong!
-I hate to give you the bad news, but all the evidence points to you. The medical charts, the biopsy report, Ms. Suzui panties, even the medal. All of them show the true culprit! — Ren pointed to Kamoshida with a furious frown. — Suguru Kamoshida! You were the one who abused Ms. Shiho Suzui, in order to fulfill your twisted desires!
-No…! I… — Kamoshida said with his Shadow wordlessly.
-You bastard! Confess it was you! You did this just 'cause you could do it without sufferin' the consequences! — Ryuji yelled.
-I… I…
-You abused us far enough! You physically abused the members of the volleyball team, especially me! — Mishima said angrily.
-No! It wasn't me! I…
-Then prove it, you bastard! Give your DNA! — Ryuji yelled.
-Prove Amamiya was wrong by giving your sample. — Mishima said.
-You can't, can you? Because if you give it, you know you'll be found guilty. — Ren said.
-You scum…!
-No Kamoshida. The only scum here it's you who ruined several lives and tried to ruin the lives of five innocent teenagers. Me, Ryuji, and Mishima. Ann, you tried to force her to sleep with you and Shiho Suzui, who couldn't bear her abuse and tried to kill herself. The only one who is responsible is you.
-You little…
-And before you go to jail, I have something to say to you. You said before that Shujin Academy is a place where those with aspirations come to learn, and unworthy students like us don't have any right to be here. That also applies to you. Teachers are not an exception, and you have proven you are unworthy of the title of teacher. A person who abuses your students doesn't have a place in any school in which the well-being of the students is more important than the school's reputation. So Kamoshida, get with the program!
-A-A-Amamiya! — Kamoshida yelled, pounding the witness stand with his fist and the Shadow Kamoshida did the same.
-Bailiffs! Arrest this man right now! — The Judge said.
Two bailiffs came and dragged Kamoshida out of the courtroom.
-This isn't the end of this! You all will pay for that!
After ten minutes, The Judge looked at Sae, who glanced at Ren.
-Prosecutor Niijima, what happened to Mr. Kamoshida.
-He remained silent, only calling his lawyer. I'm sure he'll ask for a habeas corpus or pay the bail. — Sae said adjusting her hair.
-I see… Mr. Amamiya and Prosecutor Niijiima, you two did an excellent job today.
-Thank you, your Honor. — Both Sae and Ren replied.
-Mr. Amamiya. — Sae called.
-Yes, Prosecutor Niijima?
-You truly are their apprentice. You possess Phoenix's belief and Miles's logic. I'd hope we meet again in court. — Sae said with a genuine smile.
-Me too, Prosecutor Niijima. — Ren replied.
-This… This is madness!
Everyone glanced at Kobayakawa.
-Amamiya, you'll pay for this! I'll expel you and Sakamoto and Mishima for that.
-Before you do that, I want you to read a certain condition I put in our agreement.
-Mr. Amamiya, may I do the honor? — Sae asked.
-Of course.
Sae picks the agreement from her briefcase and flips to a certain page.
-Here is the condition: "If one of the sides causes anything in order to disturb the proceedings of the investigation and/or the trial the responsible will be responsible for that action, being unable to prejudice in any manner and matter to the other side." That means you can't do anything to Mr. Amamiya and his clients.
-What!?
-And there's more. "That also includes the witness who signed the agreement, and who was present at the trial."
-So, Mr. Kobayakawa, if you threaten anyone here, I'll sue you. And before I forget you'll answer for everything you have done to the students from the Shujin Academy as a punishment for trying such a low move.
-Amamiya…! You'll pay for this! Mark my words.
Kobayakawa was escorted by the bailiffs as well.
-I do believe it's time for a verdict. Mr. Sakamoto, and Mr. Mishima, please take the stand.
Both nodded and stood on the witness stand.
-By the unanimous vote of the jury, I hereby declare the defendants, Mr. Yuuki Mishima, Mr. Ryuji Sakamoto, and Mr. Ren Amamiya Not Guilty!
Everyone celebrated the result as Ren looked proudly at Ryuji and Mishima.
Excellent work! You've done well, my friend.
"Thank you, Arsène."
-Now the Court is Adjourned. — The Judge said, hitting his gavel.
