Tokyo District Court. Defendant Lobby No 3.

16:20 PM

-You did it! — Ryuji said happily.

-I never doubted you. — Ann said happily as well.

-Great job! — Morgana said proudly.

-Thanks, guys! — Ren replied, feeling slightly embarrassed with all the attention.

-Amamiya, good job. — Mishima said.

-It was nothing. I was only doing my job.

Ayumi went inside the lobby and hugged Ren.

-Thank you! Thank you for putting him behind the bars.

-As I said, I was only doing my job. — Ren said shyly.

-Oh my, aren't you so shy? — Ayumi teased.

-Mrs. Suzui, please don't tease me. — Ren begged.

-Sorry, but I couldn't help it.

Ren laughed.

-Usually, I'm the one who says that.

-You tease others? How rude of you.

Ren laughed again.

-Sorry, but I can't resist. Besides, when it was you, I didn't see you complain about it.

-Sorry.

-Hey!

Sojiro went into the lobby with a proud smile.

-Great job kiddo.

-I was only doing my job.

-You're quite modest, huh?

-Why shouldn't I be? — Ren asked, confused.

-Okay then, so do you want to go home, or you'll celebrate with your friends? — Sojiro asked.

-I'll celebrate with them. We are going to a restaurant in Aoyama.

-Just don't get home late, okay.

-Okay.

Sojiro left the lobby and Ayumi looked at them.

-Do you want to go to see Shiho, Ann? I want to give the news to her.

-Well, I need to go somewhere first, is that okay?

-Yes, you can go. You three should celebrate after all that happened.

-Are you sure? — Ann asked, confused.

-Yes, I'm sure, after all, you all need to relax after a tough trial.

-Okay. I'll be at the hospital later.

-Okay then. I'll be waiting.

Ayumi left the lobby as well and Ren looked at Mishima.

-You should celebrate with us.

-Uh, no. After all, after everything I've done, I think I need to give you some time.

-Okay. Hey, relax, we won. You should at least celebrate with your parents.

-I will. See you guys at school.

Mishima left the lobby and Ren looked at Ann, Ryuji, and Morgana.

-Hey, I think we need to go. We have something to do. — Ren said with a serious frown.

-What're we waitin' for? Let's go. — Ryuji said seriously as well.

-Let's. — Ann said.

Metaverse. Kamoshida Palace.

After School.

-Everyone's ready? — Ren asked.

-We are. — Ryuji said seriously.

-I never felt such tension in the Palace before. The trial really disturbed him. — Morgana commented. — Things will be difficult, but I'm sure we can do it.

-Here we are. It's our only chance. — Ren said seriously.

-What're we waiting for? Let's go. — Ann said determinedly.

-Let's go! Keep your guard up!

The thieves went through the castle, following their infiltration route, going straight towards the throne room. Taking the hidden corridor, they went up through the elevator and reached the top of the tower. Rushing towards the stairs they reached the throne room.

-The doors are opened. Let's move. — Morgana said, rushing towards the Treasure Room.

"Don't they find it odd that the door was open in the first place?" Ren noticed as they went inside the throne room. "Speaking of it, where's Kamoshida?"

-Hey. — Ren called as they went inside the Treasure room. — Where's Kamoshida?

-Now you mentioned it… I didn't see him. — Ryuji said.

-Me neither. — Ann said.

-Isn't that odd? — Ren asked.

-Now that you say that… The door's just sittin' open, and there aren't any soldiers around — Ryuji said, looking around.

-That place is probably undermanned now that they got assigned elsewhere. — Morgana said. — Now, let's get the Treasure. We win as long as we can steal the Treasure!

-I don't like this. — Ren said.

The thieves went inside and the Treasure was materialized, with the form of a giant crown.

-Wow… — Ren said, impressed.

Ren, Ryuji, and Ann were speechless as they saw the Treasure floating lightly in the air.

-Aww yeeeeaaaah! The Treasure has appeared! — Morgana said excitedly.

-Man, it's huge! — Ryuji said, impressed.

-What do you think!? It's just as I said! Now we can steal it! — Morgana said with his eyes shining with ambition. — Ahh, this shine brings tears to my eyes…

-It kinda pisses me off. — Ann commented.

-It's made of pure gold? — Ren asked, surprised, looking at the crown more carefully. — Sorry. What is it, Panther?

-Why's it so pretty? Isn't this Kamoshida's desire? — Ann asked, annoyed.

-Maybe it's something truly valuable to him, a real treasure. Perhaps it's something valuable in the real world as well. — Ren explained.

-I see…

-Er, Mona? — Ryuji called.

They looked at Morgana who was trembling and his mouth was drooling.

-T-Treasure…

-Uh… Mona…? — Ren called unsurely.

-Uh, the cat's actin' awfully excited. — Ryuji commented.

-What's wrong? Is something… — Ann asked.

Suddenly Morgana jumped and hugged the Treasure.

-Mona! — The trio said.

Morgana was purring and meowing, rubbing his big head against the Treasure.

-Mona! Stop with that. That's not catnip! — Ren teased.

-All right, that's enough, you stupid cat! — Ryuji said, annoyed.

Morgana came back to his senses and he jumped off the Treasure, ashamed of his attitude.

-*Ahem* Oh, um, yeah… Forgive me for displaying such an insolent sight in front of a lady… — Morgana said, feeling his cheeks burn.

-It's alright… It wasn't like you tried to kink with the treasure.

-Joker!

Ren laughed as Ann and Ryuji looked perplexed at him.

-Dude, for real? — Ryuji asked.

-Sorry, I couldn't resist teasing him. *ahem* But seriously, what was that? — Ren asked.

-Yeah, you were completely out of character too. — Ann noted.

-I couldn't stop it either… To think I'd be drawn to human desires this much… Hey, doesn't that prove I'm a human? — Morgana asked.

-How should we know? — Ryuji asked, annoyed.

-Yeah, that was a human action, but it's also a cat action… — Ren said toying with his head.

-Seriously!? Ugh, never mind… A-Anyway, you guys need to carry it! — Morgana said, baffled.

-All you do is bark orders… — Ryuji said. — Still, that's easier than I thought! I thought for sure there'd be some insane trap or something.

-I don't know… All of that sounds fishy to me. — Ren said and looked around with his new power. — I can't see Kamoshida anywhere…

-His Palace will disappear if we take this back to the normal world, right? And Kamoshida will change too… — Ann said determinedly.

-…That should be the case. — Morgana said surely.

-Well, what are we waiting for? Let's take our prize and get out of here. Although we need to be careful. We don't know what can happen. — Ren said.

-Good. Now's our chance then. — Ryuji said.

They grabbed the crown and started to walk the way back.

-It's heavy… — Ann commented.

-To think it'd go so well… I've even found three Persona-users in the process… — Morgana said proudly. — My Judgement was correct. I made the right choice in making a deal with you!

-Yeah… And you're not helping… — Ren said, annoyed. — Now, let's move.

-Let's! — Morgana laughed. — I'm so proud of you!

"I feel my bond with Morgana growing deeper!"

Ren felt his power growing even more. Ren remembered Igor's words.

"My power grew when my bond with Mona became deeper. I need to deepen my bonds to make my power grow… I wonder how my power could improve…"

They walked towards the exit, carrying the crown with them over the throne room.

-Go! Go! Let's go! Ka-mo-shida!

-Everyone, look out! — Ren warned with his Vision of Truth activated.

The trio was hit by a volleyball, making them drop the crown. Kamoshida jumped over the room, landing in front of his throne. Extending his hand, he grabbed the crown that shrunk to normal size. Princess Ann came in his direction, hugging him in the process.

-I won't let anyone take this!

-I wasn't expecting that either. — Ren said, drawing his knife. — So, you decided to appear, huh?

-Yes. And I will keep this. — Shadow Kamoshida said, playing with the ball. — This proves I'm the king of this castle-it is the core of this world!

-We know that. — Ren answered.

-Haven't you taken enough from me? You took my reputation and my liberty. — Kamoshida asked, playing with the Treasure.

-I could ask the same. You tried to do the same thing to us. — Ren pointed the knife towards Shadow Kamoshida. — Haven't you done enough?

-I do what I please. I'm the king, the ruler of this place.

-And that is the way you see Ann and the others? Quite the respectful teacher, huh?

-That rat bastard… That's how he sees me, isn't it!? Just as his slut. — Ann said indignantly.

-Yo, pervert. Were you waitin' to ambush us? — Ryuji asked, provocating.

-I just made it easier to find you. I'll dispose of you by myself. Right here, right now. — Kamoshida pointed to Ren. — As you did to me.

-Yeah, it was the same thing, asshole. — Ren said, annoyed.

-That's our line, you sexually-harassin' d-bag! — Ryuji yelled.

-What a selfish misunderstanding…

-How is it a misunderstanding!? You were doing things that you kept secret from others! — Ann said irritated.

-People around me were the ones who kept it a secret. — Shadow Kamoshida said with a smile.

-Yeah, and you kept it secret just for convenience. — Ren said sarcastically.

-Adults who want to share my accomplishments, students who have to drive to become winners… They're willing to protect me so that we all may profit from it.

-Profit!? — Ryuji asked in pure incredulously.

-There are too many imbeciles who don't understand it. Including that naïve brat like you and that girl who tried to kill herself. — Shadow Kamoshida said with a maniacal smile.

-I can understand. You are just a bastard who can't achieve your objective without using others as your tools. Deceiving your workmates, lying to your students, threatening and abusing your protégés. All of that to fill your empty desires. For what? For the supposed profit? Or to make you their king? The answer for that is you are just a horrible person and a selfish bastard, a psychopath. — Ren answered.

-And it's true, she's a total idiot… for letting you manipulate her, trying to commit suicide… — Ann replied as well. — And I'm even more dumbass for not realizing that! But no matter what kind of fool someone might be… They don't need your permission to live their lives.

-And they don't need to live to fulfill your desires, nor to obey your twisted desires. That also applies to anyone in your position. You have to respect them because you're no better than them. You are just a human being like them. — Ren said.

-Drop the attitude you mediocre peasant! There is no wrong in using my gifts for my gain! I'm a cut above all other humans!

-Let's just say that's true. Even with that, that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. — Ren said. — And even if that's the case, why do we have laws and society in the first place? For in the end you dispose of them and go to the next one? You're no better than a real criminal Kamoshida. You are a disturbance to peace and of society itself, you're no better than a beast.

-That's right! You meant you're beneath. You're a goddamn demon obsessed with your sick desires! — Ann said furiously.

Kamoshida chuckled as he assumed his true form.

-That's right. I'm not like you! I am a demon who rules this world!

Shadow Kamoshida turned into a horrent devil, wearing the Treasure on his head.

-I'm allowed to do whatever the hell I want!

-You're wrong. You can't do whatever you want, thinking you're a god or a demon, neither are we. And I don't want to be a god, nor a demon before you ask. I'm a human, and I will always be a human being. As humans, we possess flaws and qualities, and we make mistakes. We possess free will, and at the same time, we possess the power to go beyond. That is what I believe. I didn't want to be a criminal, but I became one against my will. But I decided to fight to prove the world was wrong about me. I'm a lawyer, and as a lawyer, I vowed to protect the innocent, uphold the law and make justice prevail. I will, we will stop you.

I am thou

"Thou art I"

Thou who punish the blasphemous ones with all our might

"We'll protect the innocent ones"

And make the Justice prevail

"Making the crooked ones pay for their sin!"

-Come Kamoshida! We're ready for you! It's showtime! — Ren said, pointing his knife at him.

Kamoshida yelled in anger!

-You goddamn, no-good, shitty brats! — Kamoshida said, attacking the thieves, who dodged his golden knife. — Haven't you been taught not to point at people!? Huh!?

-Actually yes, but my mentors taught me to point at people in court.

-But we're in a castle. — Ryuji replied.

-Never heard of sarcasm Skull? — Ren asked with a bored face.

-Look! The Treasure's over there! — Morgana pointed at Kamoshida. — We should catch him off-guard and steal it!

-Easy for you to say! — Ryuji answered.

-We just need a chance. — Ren looked around. — For now, let's attack. I have an idea.

They assumed their battle position and started their attack on Shadow Kamoshida. During their attack, they were hit by volleyballs. Using all their skills they managed to hurt Shadow Kamoshida and dodge most of his attacks. Wounded, Kamoshida took a giant trophy full of woman legs. with one of his arms and put it in front of him. Using his gold cutlery he took a bite of the legs, recovering his health.

-That's hit the spot! — He said happily as he eats his food. — Come at me, you pieces of shit! I ain't lettin' you sleep tonight!

-Of course! Here I come — Ren said, striking the trophy with all his strength.

-*gasp* Hey! You don't know what this is worth, so stop touching it!

-Why not? It's so shiny, I need to break it. — Ren provoked.

-I won't let you break my dear trophy! Stop it! Don't do it anymore, got it? I've warned you.

-When someone tells us not to do something, it makes us want to do it even more! — Morgana said happily. — How do you know we needed to attack the trophy?

-Since he healed himself by eating those legs.

-Well, we need to destroy that in order for him to stop healing. — Morgana said determinedly.

-Mona, strike Kamoshida. Panther, Skull attack the trophy with me! Persona! Slime, Lunge!

-Captain Kidd! Lunge! — Ryuji shouted.

-Carmen! Agi! — Ann shouted.

The thieves keep their attacks against the trophy as Morgana attacks Shadow Kamoshida. Kamoshida tried desperately to contain their attack, managing to hurt Ann in the process with his golden knife.

-Panther! — Ryuji yelled. — You'll pay for that! Captain Kidd!

-Don't worry about me, Skull. Carmen! Diarama!

Ann recovered her health as Ryuji destroyed the trophy.

-No! No way… This was from when I won the national… — Kamoshida said. — You all will pay for that!

-All right! Zorro! Garu!

Taking advantage of Kamoshida's distraction, they cornered him, pointing their guns at him.

-You think that you can get away with doing such a thing!? Do you realize who I am!? I am Kamoshida! Don't you get it!?

-And what? You are nothing but a selfish bastard. — Ren replied.

-No! I'm Kamoshida— I'm the king!

-Y'know, I always saw you as a condescending hotshot, but right now… you're just a pathetic loser. — Ryuji said.

-We came all the way to steal that! — Ann exclaimed. — Will you just give it up and hand it over?

-Silence! I won't let the likes of you have this! — Kamoshida replied.

-You still have the energy to say things like that!? — Morgana exclaimed calmly.

-Then you don't give us any other choice! We'll take it by force! We'll do our own game as well! Everybody! All-Out Attack, now! — Ren exclaimed.

Performing an All-Out Attack, they strike mercilessly at Kamoshida who was astounded by their strike.

-I'm the King! If I'm not, then who is!? — Kamoshida yelled.

-You should know the answer already. — Ren answered. — And if you're the king, it's time to dethrone you again. As I did in court!

-How dare you keep defying me! Looks like I gotta bring out the big guns! Slaves! Bring over you-know-what!

Kamoshida broke the chains that kept the slaves tied and they ran out of the throne room. The thieves kept their attack against Kamoshida.

-You all are still defying me!? It's time for my killshot when I was active and rockin' it!

-Were you at least competent enough?'

-Very funny! You will not laugh so much as you see you-know-what and I perform my killshot. Killshot… as in I'll make the kill.

-We understood that. We're not stupid as you. — Ren retorted.

"Knowing who I'm dealing with, I have an idea."

Then Mishima appeared with a volleyball in hands.

-I-I'm so sorry, King Kamoshida! I-I have it right here!

-Too slow, Mishima! You worthless chump!

-M-Mishima! — Ryuji exclaimed as dodged one of the attacks.

-Don't be fooled. It's just an illusion. — Ren explained. — Now, be careful! Defend yourselves!

-Joker's right! That's only Kamoshida's cognitive version of him! Now let's protect ourselves! — Morgana said.

Raising their guards, the cognitive Mishima started to throw the ball in the air.

-Good, Mishima! Now pass it to me! Don't tell me you can't even do something as simple as that!

Passing the ball, Kamoshida gave a powerful spike, making the ball hit the ground and causing an explosion, which hurt the thieves but wasn't enough to knock them down.

-I knew it… I can't go all-out with Mishima providing the backup. — Kamoshida turned his head to Mishima. — Hey, shit-for-brains! Get out of my court!

-I-I'm sorry, King Kamoshida! — Cognitive Mishima yelled in fear.

Resuming their attacks, the thieves managed to hurt Kamoshida even more.

-Next slave! Get out here! Hurry up with my damn ball!

To Ann's surprise, it was a cognitive version of Shiho who came, wearing a sexy bunny outfit.

-King Kamoshida! — Cognitive Shiho said in a sexy manner. — I've brought your ball, just as you asked.

-Shiho!? — Ann exclaimed! — N-No way! What's she doing here!?

-Now there's a good girl, Suzui! — Shadow Kamoshida looked at Ann as the cognitive Shiho sent a kiss to her. — Yeah, all the women should obey my orders like this one—ain't that right, sweetheart?

-Panther! Don't be fooled. That's not her! — Ren exclaimed.

-Y-Yeah, you're right… But this…

-I know…

-We know… — Ryuji said furiously. — Even Suzui too! You've gone too far, you piece of shit!

-That's right! — Morgana yelled.

-Ah, I see! You all want to see my killshot again, don't you? — Kamoshida asked with a maniacal laugh.

"At this rate, we'll be an easy target if we attack him. We need to take down the cognitive Shoho as fast as we can."

-Panther… We need to…

-I know, let me do this. — Ann said.

-Us.

-Skull!?

-You can't do that alone. — Ryuji said determinedly. — We'll need to do this together.

-You've heard him. — Ren said.

-You're right. Let's go Skull!

Ann and Ryuji managed to knock down the cognitive Shiho as Ren and Morgana attacked Kamoshida. During their attacks, Ryuji and Ann managed to kill the cognitive version of Shiho.

-Hmph, even Suzui was useless. Looks like I'll have to give her some special instruction later… One-on-one!

-Sorry, Suzui… I swear we'll beat that bastard's ass…! — Ryuji whispered.

-I'll never forgive you Kamoshida! — Ann yelled.

Kamoshida looked around and saw only the thieves attacking him. Using his four arms, he attacked mercilessly, avoiding uselessly the thieves' attacks.

-What's the matter, slaves!? Hurry up and bring me more volleyballs! I can't serve up my killshot without any balls!

-Looks like you ran out of ammo Kamoshida! — Ren yelled, attacking him.

-You're too stupid… I'm not done yet! I… I Huh!? Did I just… Am I really out of slaves!?

-Everyone, come closer! — Ren ordered.

Going to behind a pillar, Ren looked at Kamoshida.

-We won't get anywhere just with brute force…

-Now it's time. Remember, I've got a plan? — Ren asked.

-Yeah.

-Skull, look at the terrace. You go there and we'll create an opportunity for you to take his crown.

-Got it. Count on me!

Ren resumed the attacks as the others started to attack as well, while Ryuji climbed the pillar with his grappling hook, avoiding being spotted by Kamoshida.

-Now listen up. This school exists because I'm around! You're the only ones who don't respect me, you know!

-Why should I respect you? — Ren provoked.

-Yeah, whatever man… Now's my chance! — Ryuji whispered while climbing the pillar.

-Why should you!? I'm one respected athlete, an Olympic medalist! An idol!

-An idol which it's useless without your "slaves"! — Ren yelled.

-What did you say!? — Kamoshida exclaimed.

-You heard me! You're useless! You need to slave the others because you can't do the things by yourself!

-You're wrong!

Ren laughed.

-Did that bother you? Yeah, it does, because you can't be a success without pinning others down.

-Stop!

Ren laughed louder.

-Why? Can't you deal with the truth?

Kamoshida gave a slice attack at Ren's direction, who dodged.

-And what? To prove you possess the big guns? You're a failure as a person, as a teacher, and as a man. That's why you need to harass others?

-You're misunderstanding it all! I haven't sexually harassed anyone!

-And what about your princess, huh? And Shiho? — Ren retorted.

-What a moron… — Ryuji commented as he positioned to catch the Treasure.

-They came onto me because they wanted to get on my good side!

-And you can't stop yourself from exchanging, huh?

-Shut up!

-*laugher* I thought as a king you were at least all mighty and independent. I was clearly mistaken!

-Shut up! Shut up!

-Can't get a girl by yourself, so you harass. Can't be a star, so you try to steal the spotlight. — Ren said during one of your attacks. — You're all the opposite you try to show to everyone!

-Shut up!

Ren laughed louder and louder, as Ryuji signaled he was ready.

-You are a failure in every aspect of your life Kamoshida! You couldn't do it by yourself, and you can't admit that you can't do it alone, so you do what you do.

-Stop! I do whenever I want! — Kamoshida yelled furiously. — Wait, where's the one of you!? That ape! Where'd he go!?

Ryuji jumped and spiked the crown with all his strength, sending it flying away. He landed on the ground, rolling with style and stopping on Ann's side.

-Took you too long enough to notice it, moron! — Ryuji said with a smile.

-No! My precious…! You can't do this!

-I think we can do this! — Ann said with a smile.

-Let's end this. All-Out Attack! Now! — Ren ordered.

Attacking with all their strength, the thieves managed to defeat Kamoshida. The Treasure shrunk again went to a normal size. Ryuji went to take the Treasure when Shadow Kamoshida in a hunch took it back and ran towards a dead end.

-What's wrong? Not running away? — Ann asked.

-I think that's the end of the line for him. — Ren replied calmly. — It's over Kamoshida.

-Why don't you run? Aren't you a great athlete? — Ann provoked.

-It's always been like this… all those goddamn hyenas forcing their expectation on me! I'm doing this all for them! What's wrong about demanding a reward for that!? — Kamoshida asked.

-You still don't understand. Do you? — Ren asked.

-What?

-Even in the end, you still don't understand the real matter…

-What do you know!? — Kamoshida asked. — You know nothing about me. I have to do that.

-Now you're makin' excuses? We'll do something about that distorted heart of yours. — Ryuji retorted angrily.

Kamoshida grunted in fear.

-Scared? — Ann asked. — Right now, you're seeing the same view that Shiho did.

Kamoshida looked at Ann who summoned Carmen.

-I'm sure she was scared too… except she had no choice but to jump… What will you do? Will you jump? Or would you rather die here?

Carmen summoned two giant fireballs in both hands.

-Do you want to finish him off? It's your call. — Morgana said.

-No, please wait! I beg you… Just forgive me…!

"Is that right to decide if a person will live? Is that even wrong to think about it?" Ren thought seeing Carmen throw one of the fireballs next to Kamoshida.

-Shut up! I bet everyone told you the same. But you… you took everything from them. — Ann yelled.

-I accept defeat! You want this? Take it!

Kamoshida threw the Treasure to Ren, who grabbed it with only one hand.

-Go ahead and finish me off… You do that… and my real self will go down too… You have that right since you won.

-Ann wait… — Ryuji said, seeing Ann clenching her fists.

-Ann…

"What I decide here, will define what type of person I am. All of us."

-We know you're angry. But that will decide what type of person you will be. I leave that choice to you. — Ren said.

Are you sure of that? Arsène asked.

"I'm sure of it. I trust her. I trust them."

-He's right. But no matter what, we'll always be by your side. — Ryuji said.

Ann opens her left hand and in synchrony with Carmen throws the other fireball.

-Ann! — Ryuji and Ren yelled.

However, the fireball hit the veranda instead of Kamoshida. Ann felt his anger slowly disappear as she calls her mask back.

-No. If your mind shuts down, you can't admit your crimes. Besides… Doing that makes me no better than you. — She said with her face twisted even more in anger.

-You're kind Lady Ann. — Morgana said.

-And there was Amamiya work too…

-I know. — Ren replied.

Shadow Kamoshida cried as looking at himself.

-I don't understand… I've lost… You're through when you lose. But still…

-You still don't get it… Even after all of that…

-Amamiya, correct? — Shadow Kamoshida asked. — Why? Why did you do what you did? Even after all I have done? Why can't I defeat you?

-I did that because I trust them. And also I truly trust and believe in justice, in truth, and in the greater good. That's why I went into a trial first. And that's why I trust she would make the right decision. — Ren said, looking at the ceiling. — Of course, I could have done with you, especially her. However, that will make me and her no better than you. We're not judges, jury, and the punishers of everyone's lives. I'm not a god, I am a mere human, as I said before, and I can't live in the past and especially I simply keep living it in the past, reviving the days of glory. That's why you have failed Kamoshida. You tried to live in the past and you can't move forward. You stopped in time and thought everyone deserves to give you something for your time, thinking you still are a star. Your time of glory is over.

-In the end, no matter what I could've done, I still lost… But what am I supposed to do now? What should I do?

-You want to know Kamoshida? Instead of blaming others and making excuses, you should recognize your mistakes, atone for your sins and pay for your crimes. Maybe one day you will have the forgiveness you wish for. — Ren called Arsène and pointed with him towards Kamoshida. — And maybe you will find peace. That's the answer I have for you.

-I understand… — Shadow Kamoshida said with tears in his eyes, looking at them. — All right… I will leave now and return to my real self… — He said with a genuine smile. — I'll make certain that I—

Then Shadow Kamoshida disappeared, leaving the castle in blue light. Ren called his mask back

"I never expected that maturity from you. Needless to say, I'm proud" Arsène said proudly.

"Thank you."

Then the Palace started to crumble after the disappearance of Kamoshida.

-The Palace is collapsing! — Ren said.

-We don't have any time to waste! — Morgana exclaimed seriously. — Run!

They started to run towards the exit, going through the corridors of the collapsing palace. During their run Morgana turned to his cat form and jumped onto Ren's shoulder.

-No fair, you jerk! Gah!

Ryuji fell on the ground, grabbing his bad leg.

-Ryuji! — Ann and Ren yelled.

-Heh… It's been a while, so I just tripped, that's all!

-Ryuji! Fast!

Ryuji saw the corridor collapsing and quickly returned to run. The thieves rushed towards the exit, managing to exit the Palace.

Real World. Aoyama-Itchome District.

Shujin Academy. Front-Entrance.

After School

-That sucked… — Ann said, panting heavily.

-I agree… — Ren said, catching his breath. — Damn… That was tough.

-Hey! Look at the nav! — Ryuji said with his phone in his hands.

Ren did as Ryuji said and to his surprise, the access to the Palace vanished.

-The destination has been deleted. — The Metaverse Navigator annunciated.

-The Palace vanished. — Ren said.

-…It's true. We can't go there anymore. — Ann said, trying to enter the destination and ending with an error message.

-Wait, what about the Treasure? — Morgana asked.

-It's right here. — Ren showed an Gold Olympic Medal.

-What the… Wait, isn't that…? — Ryuji asked, perplexed.

-A medal? Wait, where'd that crown go?

-Isn't that Olympic medal you submitted as evidence before? — Ryuji asked, recognizing the medal.

-Now you mentioned it, yes. It looks exactly like that medal. — Ann said.

-It is.

-But why? — Ann asked, confused.

-It's because it reminds him of the past.

-I don't get it. — Ryuji said.

-That's his Treasure. The source of Kamoshida's desires. — Ren explained.

-Yeah. To him, this medal is worth as much as that crown we saw in the Palace. — Morgana explained as well.

-I see… So, that perv kept clingin' to his past glory and couldn't let it go… — Ryuji said with some sorrow.

-But that means that Kamoshida's heart might have changed, right? — Ann asked.

-Probably… — Morgana explained.

-Hey, our expulsions are on the line here! — Ryuji exclaimed.

-I know! This is the first successful example for me too, you know… — Morgana said unsure.

-But there's no doubt that affected Kamoshida's personality a lot. Remember what he said in the Palace? — Ren asked.

-True, and the entire Palace disappeared, after all.

-Ugh! I feel all antsy! Ain't there a way to check now? — Ryuji asked.

-As much I hate to admit, we need to wait. There's no way to know now, but as Morgana and I said, there's no doubt that it affected Kamoshida deeply.

-Right… — Ann asked a bit down.

-Come on, what're the gloomy faces? Be happy! We completed this with great success, you know.

-Morgana's right. We've succeeded in court and stealing his heart.

-Dude, I know, but… we just don't know if everything is okay yet… But since you said.

-I'm pretty sure it'll be fine.

-How can you tell?

To their surprise, two men were standing in the alley, watching them.

-You four know how that affects his personality, right? After all, that place disappeared. A Palace, correct? — Said the other man.

Ren smiled at both.

-Looks like you two know more than I thought. Chief Nick and Chief Miles.

Phoenix and Miles walked out of the shadows and Ren greeted both with a handshake.

-It's nice to see you two again. — Ren said with a smile. — So long have you two been there?

-Since an hour. When you two went to the Palace. — Phoenix replied. — I don't know what really happened when we arrived, but since you four are here you better have a good explanation for that.

-And besides, you said you were going to tell us anyway. — Miles said calmly.

-Because I know you two will find out eventually. — Ren explained.

-Dude, for real? You two almost freaked us out. — Ryuji said with a hand on his chest.

-True. I almost got a heart attack. — Ann said.

-They can hear me!? — Morgana asked, perplexed.

-Morgana, right? — Phoenix asked and the supernatural cat nodded. — We saw spirit channeling and even supernatural things. That's not a surprise for us.

-I see… But how are you two… Wait… Are you two perhaps…

-You two are Persona-users, correct? — Ren asked. — That's the only explanation.

Ryuji, Ann, and Morgana looked at Ren perplexed and Phoenix and Miles just smiled.

-Always quickly catching things up. — Miles said proudly,

-Care to explain what's goin' on? — Ryuji asked confused.

-Yeah, what do you mean they are Persona-users? — Ann asked, even more confused.

-It's a long story. Perhaps we have to give some explanation for you Ren, then you can explain the others. — Phoenix said with a serious frown.

-Okay, I will be willing to hear. — Ren said with a serious face.

-Okay…

-What's wrong, Miss…

-Takamaki. — Ann replied.

-Ms. Takamaki?

-Kamoshida… — Ann asked.

-Yeah… We ain't sure if he changed or not — Ryuji said.

Ren sighed.

-True, but it seems he regained some conscience in the end.

-We all know Suguru Kamoshida is a scum. There's no doubt about it. — Morgana said.

-True. He heard about him from the trial. — Miles explained.

-Did you two watch the trial? — Ren asked, truly surprised.

-Actually no. The fact is, Prosecutor Niijima told us. — Phoenix explained.

-She explained to you more specifically. — Miles retorted.

-Can you blame me? — Phoenix asked.

-Back to the topic… He did seem to regain his conscience somewhat before he disappeared. — Morgana said.

-You know. I'm sure he changed his heart. — Ren replied.

-Yeah, and you did that after the trial. Which makes me wonder, why'd you do that? — Phoenix asked.

-Well, you two know the answer. — Ren answered.

-We are proud of you Ren. — Miles said with a genuine smile.

-You always surpass our expectations. Even when you do the thing in your own way. — Phoenix said proudly.

-Thanks Chief Nick and Chief Miles. But I was only doing the right thing.

-Right.

-They're right. There are definitely those who have been saved thanks to what you've done. — Morgana said.

-What we've done. I couldn't have done without you all. — Ren said.

-Thank you. — Ann, Morgana, Miles, and Phoenix said.

-Thanks, man. — Ryuji said with a huge grin. — Anyway, I guess we gotta wait. It all boils down to what's gonna happen to Kamoshida… or if we're gettin' expelled for real…

-Let's be patient. — Ren said. — I'm sure everything will go well.

-And if that happens, we'll do everything in our reach to avoid that. — Phoenix said determinedly.

-We are not going to let this happen. — Miles said, determined as well. Ren heard his stomach rumble. — Perhaps we can discuss a few things while eating a good dinner. Our treat.

-Yeah, you four deserve it after all. — Phoenix said smiling.

-Okay. Why don't we go to Shibuya? I heard there's a small restaurant there. — Ren suggested.

Shibuya District. Shibuya Diner.

Evening.

-So, they are your friends, correct? — Miles asked.

-Yes. — Ren replied while Ryuji and Ann nodded.

-I'm Ryuji Sakamoto. Nice to meet ya!

-I'm Ann Takamaki. Nice to meet you too.

-It's a pleasure as well. — Miles replied.

-Is nice to meet you too. — Phoenix replied with a huge grin.

-To meet such important lawyers… It's almost surreal. — Ann commented.

-We're not that great… — Phoenix said, scratching the back of his head.

-Are you serious!? And the Phantom's case!? And your victories in the Kingdom of Khura'in!? — Ann asked.

-Well, I had help, and…

-Come on Chief Nick, you had the hard work. You should at least show yourself a little more. — Ren said.

Phoenix laughed.

-Coming from you, it's surprising. — Phoenix retorted. — Now then, are you guys hurt?

-Not much… — Ren admitted. — I mean, we are hurt, but not so much that we can't walk.

-I see… Well then, let's enjoy the food and celebrate.

All of them were eating their food and enjoying their talk when Ryuji glanced at them.

-But seriously now, why are you two here? — Ryuji asked. — You two said you need to come to Japan.

-Well, I never thought he could be sharp… — Phoenix commented.

-Yeah, Ryuji can surprise sometimes. — Ren commented.

-Hey!

Both Phoenix and Ren laughed.

-He's a moron. — Morgana said.

-But sometimes he surpasses you in intelligence.

-What!? — Morgana yelped.

-What? That should be obvious

-Ren, stop teasing your cat.

-I am not a cat. And now I have to agree with Ryuji. What are you two doing here? You two are not here just to help Ren.

Phoenix, Miles, and Ren faces twisted in a serious frown.

-We can't tell you. — Was their answer.

-Well, I'm not goin' to press further, since you three don't wanna talk 'bout it.

-Thanks Ryuji. — Ren said.

-Still, you three owe us an explanation later. — Ann said seriously as well. — For now, let's celebrate!

-Let's.

They enjoyed the moment, talking and enjoying their food. After eating, Ryuji and Ann thanked both Phoenix and Miles, and both left the restaurant. Ren looked at his mentors and said:

-Well, I need to go. It's getting late.

-We know, that's why we want to bring you home. Where's your guardian live? — Phoenix asked.

-Er… About that…

-Ren… — Miles said, crossing his arms with a serious frown.

-Yongen. I live now in Yongen-Jaya. But I live alone.

-What…? — Miles asked, confused.

-It's a long story. I'll explain on our way back to your home.

-Okay, we'll be waiting for a good explanation. — Miles said seriously.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

-I received a message from Ann. — Ren said to Phoenix and Miles, reading her message.

Thanks. I finally got to avenge Shiho because of you guys. Especially what you did in court.

It was nothing. — Ren replied.

It was. I'm pretty sure there was no way I'd have been able to do anything of my own. So seriously, thank you. I owe you guys so much. — Ann said.

As I said, it was nothing. And there's Ryuji and Morgana too, especially Ryuji. And you did your part too. — Ren replied.

Still, I really need to show how grateful I am. Anyway, that cognitive world was pretty crazy, huh? What a mysterious place. I still can't believe we actually stole someone's heart.

Yeah, you don't tell me. It's still surreal to me. — Ren said.

Speaking of mysterious, there's also the matter of Morgana's transformation.

What is it? — Ren asked.

When we were escaping, didn't he turn back into a cat even though we were still in the Palace?

-Lady Ann sure is sharp! I'm impressed.

Ren rolled his eyes and Phoenix and Miles laughed.

Since we stole Kamoshida's heart, the place no longer had the power, and since it was disappearing, that affected Morgana's transformation, so he went back to normal.

I see. — Ann asked.

-Though the real reason I changed quickly back then was because I'm so incredibly skilled! — Morgana said with some pride and Ren rolled his eyes again.

-Right, and I'm superman. Hey, she sent another message.

By the way, your mentors…

I will explain what we talked about, okay? They still need to explain a few things to us.

Yeah. It's kinda odd they can hear Morgana, right? I mean, I know they're probably Persona-users, but…

Yeah, I know. By the way, Mona sent a hello.

Oh, I forgot Morgana is still reading these messages too. I think I feel a little better after talking to you. Thanks. We still haven't seen any results, but it feels like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders. I hope you don't mind me talking too much.

Relax.

Well, see you tomorrow!

See you tomorrow.

-So, we are ready to meet your guardian. — Miles said, slightly annoyed.

-About him… He's a little grumpy, so please don't stare too intensely at him, neither complain. I don't want him to make me sleep in the streets. — Ren sighed.

-Well, let's meet him.

-Hey, you're back… Oh.

Sojiro was wordless to see Phoenix and Miles with Ren.

-Let me guess, your mentors, right? — Sojiro asked, visibly surprised.

-Right. Sojiro, meet Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth, my mentors. Chief Nick and Chief Miles meet Sojiro Sakura, my guardian.

-Sup.

-Hello Mr. Sakura, it's a pleasure to meet you. — Edgeworth said bowing to Sojiro.

-Hello Sakura-san. Nice to meet you. — Phoenix said, extending his hand to a handshake.

-It's a pleasure. So you were with them.

-Yeah, we met in Aoyama. I needed to do a few things there.

-If you say so. By the way, I headin' home. Close the shop for me, okay?

-Okay. Be careful.

Sojiro took off his apron and left Leblanc. Phoenix and Miles look over the place.

-*whistle* I like the place. So where's Mr. Sakura's residence? — Phoenix asked.

-He lives on the other block parallel to here.

-And where's your room? — Miles asked with his arms crossed. — Don't tell me you live here?

-Is that even obvious? — Ren asked, disappointed pointing to the ceiling.

-You really live… in the attic? — Phoenix asked, perplexed.

-At least I have privacy. — Ren said toying with his hair. Phoenix sighed.

-Why am I not surprised? — Phoenix asked.

-That man let you live here alone at his place… — Miles asked, then he shook his head. — What does that remind me of?

-Don't start it, Miles. — Phoenix warned. — Or do I need to remind you practically live in your office.

Both stared furiously at each other for a second before starting to laugh.

-Honestly you two… — Ren said, sighed and shook his head.

-Now then, do you two care to explain a few things to us? — Morgana asked.

-Of course. As Ren said, we are Persona-users as well.

-It was obvious since you two can understand Morgana. — Ren glanced at both with a serious frown.

-Sharp as always. — Phoenix said proudly. — And since you promised to explain what really happened, we're willing to hear you out.

-Of course…

Ren told them what really happened, including the battle against Kamoshida. After explaining everything, he showed Kamoshida's medal.

-Isn't that the medal you submitted as evidence in court? — Phoenix asked.

-It's Kamoshida's desires, his heart if you will. I don't expect you two to understand. Especially you Chief Miles. I know you're a man of science.

-A man who saw the impossible. — Miles replied. — As someone said before: "such a thing as impossible does not exist."

Ren raised one of his eyebrows.

-Are you quoting Fullmetal Alchemist? — Ren asked.

-It's true. Besides, it's a good work of fiction. — Miles explained.

-True. I love FMA. — Phoenix said.

-But now I'm serious, I do believe in you. However, we never expected this manifestation.

-Manifestation!? Are you saying that happened before!? — Morgana asked.

-Unfortunately yes. Actually, have you heard about Apathy Syndrome? — Phoenix asked.

-That was a case similar to the mental shutdowns and the psychotic breakdowns which are happening recently. Why? — Ren replied.

-Well, that was also a consequence of a manifestation. — Phoenix said.

-What!? — Both Morgana and Ren yelled.

-Yes. That not only happened before but there's a manifestation too. That manifestation was called the Dark Hour. — Miles said.

-Never had heard about it. Can you explain what the Dark Hour is?

-It was similar to the Metaverse. It was a period of time of an hour between the passage of the day, as the day was 25 hours. — Phoenix explained.

-So, the day had an extra hour? — Ren asked.

-All the days when the manifestation exists during the existence of the Dark Hour. That event started during the year 1999.

-I was born that year… — Ren said.

-No wonder you never have heard, the Dark Hour happened during the change of the day. During that time the Shadows were active. — Miles said.

-Shadows!? But…

-Yes Morgana. We were 20 when we experienced the Dark Hour for the first time. It was a nightmare. Like the nightmares, I had during most part of my life, but ten times worse.

-But then we discovered in the worst way it wasn't a nightmare. — Phoenix said, showing one scar on his wrist. — One of the Shadows attacked me one night. He gave me that scar.

-I have several as well. — Miles showed one scar on his neck. — See? That one was from one of the nights.

-At first, we escaped from them, but we decided to fight against them after some time. It's easier than running away from them. — Phoenix said.

-Since we were on our own, we had difficulties. He learned how to fight, the most efficient way. We even learn strategies and fighting styles. — Miles said.

-Wow… Then again, fighting against Shadows must be tough for you two as well. — Ren commented. — Now that makes me wonder: If you two are against me for being a Phantom Thief? If the answer is no, then…

-Not really, we understand your motivations as well, Ren. We're no saints either. — Phoenix said with a serious frown too. — And honestly , even deciding to act as an attorney is very brave of you.

-Thank you, but it took that decision almost too late.

-Because of Ms. Suzui, correct?

-Yeah… Shiho almost died because I hesitated. I will not make the same mistake again.

-We do understand you. We went into the World of Order because people could have died if we didn't do anything.

-And besides, I need to do this.

-I see… If you need anything you can count on us. — Phoenix said determinedly.

-Thank you. — Ren said.

Out of curiosity, what kind of weapons do you use? You and Morgana. — Miles asked.

-Mona? — Ren asked.

-Why not? They are fellow Persona-users as well.

Ren took weap[ons out of his bag.

-I use a knife and a gun. A semi-automatic pistol to be more precise.

-All are fake guns, correct?

-Yes. How do you know, wait, let me guess: The rigorous laws about gun possessions.

-Yes. But no laws say anything about model guns. Can we see it? — Phoenix asked and Ren nodded, showing his arsenal. — Wow, looks like the real deal. Where dis you buy these?

-On the Untouchable. An airsoft shop in Shibuya.

Phoenix and Miles smiled.

-Looks like he kept modifying model guns.

-Do you know that guy? — Ren asked.

-Kind of.

-I see. — Ren sighed. — You two have real weapons, right? — Both Phoenix and Miles nodded. — Can I see it as well?

Phoenix nodded and showed a Magnum pistol and a pair of knuckles.

-Really!? Wow… — Ren handed the gun in his hands. — Damn, that's heavy.

-Everyone says that. — Phoenix said with a chuckle. Ren gave Phoenix his weapons back.

— Still, yours are impressive too.

-Not comparing as yours. Chief Miles…?

-Unfortunately, I never carry my weapons within me when I'm in public, except for my pistol.

-Since you don't exit your office too much. What type of melee weapons do you use?

-Two swords. I usually carry them on my back. — Miles replied.

-Dual-wielding? Wow. And your fire gun? — Ren asked.

Miles pulled a pistol from his pocket and showed it to Ren.

-That's… an old model huh? Are you inspired by those old mob movies we watched during our free time?

-Perhaps. — Miles said, smirking. — The truth is I'm more accustomed to using old models. I kind of… modify them for my liking.

-So that's why that pistol is so modified. — Ren said. — How long did the Dark Hour last?

-Ten years.

-Ten years… That's impressive.

-Yeah. We survived all that time, until the day the Dark Hour disappeared for good. — Phoenix said.

-And you two know what was the cause of the Dark Hour?

-Yes. But we can't tell yet. Not without exposing…

-Your real situation. The Kirijo Group, right? It's too obvious and convenient to be a mere coincidence.

Morgana gasped and both Phoenix and Miles smiled proudly.

-Since when did you become so sharp? — Phoenix and Miles asked.

-Long enough to connect the dots quickly. Actually, the issue wasn't the Kirijo Group, right?

-Right. Actually, it was something, an entity who was causing that. The Kirijo Group was caught in the middle of it. Most of them are innocent people. Actually, it seems all the entities love to catch the most unexpected targets.

-I see… — Ren sighed. — Why'd things need to be so complicated?

-We wish we had the answer for that. — Phoenix said.

-And about your awakening…? It wasn't in the Dark Hour.

-No, it wasn't. — Miles replied. — We had to deal with our own manifestation.

-I see.

-We called that manifestation the World of Order. These manifestations according to our research happen in the realm of existence, also known as…

-…Metaverse. — Ren and Morgana said.

-Exactly. — Miles confirmed.

-So the Metaverse always existed… — Morgana said.

-Yes. Although it's odd that manifestation it's the Metaverse itself. We mean, the manifestations force a connection between the realm of existence and the real world. — Phoenix said.

-Ryuji and Ann call the Metaverse the cognitive world.

-Makes sense. The realm of existence is affected by the cognition of a person. The manifestation it's the Palace, correct? — Phoenix asked.

-Correct. Damn, you two also catch things quickly. — Ren commented with a smile.

-We're your mentors. And we dealt and we are dealing with that, so it's quite normal. — Miles replied.

-And it's related to that if you remember. — Phoenix said.

-I see… So, my suspicions are true. — Ren sighed. — Why I'm not surprised…?

-So you three!? — Morgana asked.

-Yeah, but I didn't know that much before. But now… Then I need to ask? What should we do?

-Well, as much as we don't want you to get into a problem, we do believe it's your choice. — Phoenix said.

-And no matter what you choose, we will always be by your side. — Miles said.

-Thank you. — Ren said. — By the way, where are you two going to stay? I'm kinda curious by myself.

-I think I'll rent a house in Shibuya. — Phoenix said. — It's less expensive than living in a hotel.

-I'd agree. But I think I'll stay in a hotel. — Miles said. — At least until I can find a place to live as well.

-By the way, I do have one more question.

-Yes? — Both Phoenix and Miles asked.

-Can I… — Ren sighed and glanced at both. — If anything happens to me, can I trust you two to take care of things?

-Ren…

-I just… Want to be sure everything goes well without me. I know there are some risks but…

-Ren, you know you can trust us, but more importantly, we trust you always come back. We have faith in you the same way you have faith in us.

-Thank you. — Ren said with a genuine smile. — Well, I do believe it's time for you two to go. It's getting late.

-True. Truce might get mad if I don't appear in the hotel. — Phoenix said, making a call.

-Who's Truce?

-You brought Trucy with you? — Ren asked curiously.

-I had to. She's my daughter and I won't let her alone in the U.S.

-Sorry for asking, but how old are you and how old is your daughter? — Morgana asked.

-It's not a problem. I'm 36 and Trucy is 18.

-You're a dad at 17!? — Morgana yelled.

-Actually, I adopted Trucy. She's not my biological daughter. But I love her as she's my blood nonetheless. — Phoenix said with a smile, daydreaming. — My little girl…

Ren and Miles laughed.

-I'm eager to be her assistant again on the stage.

-Yeah, after Apollo, you're the best assistant she could ask. — Phoenix said with a huge smile.

-She's a performer? — Morgana asked.

-A magician. A very talented and skillful one. I helped in her shows when she decided to follow Chief Nick during my training. — Ren explained.

-What type of training did you have!? — Morgana asked, perplexed.

-A tough as hell one. — Ren answered. — Now you two need to go. I have school tomorrow and also I have to give some explanations to Ryuji and Ann. If anything happens, you can meet me at school. There's a place we can talk in private. Call me anytime.

-Okay. We'll be going now. — Phoenix said while standing up.

-Hey Chief Nick.

-Yes, Ren?

-Prosecutor Niijima sent you a hello. She asked about you.

Phoenix smiled again.

-Okay. I'll try to meet her again. Bye Ren.

-We'll see you tomorrow if anything happens. By the way, we'll send you some files tomorrow about that case. — Miles said.

-I see. Oh, I almost forgot.

-What is it?

-Are you perhaps… Nothing. It's nothing. Bye, see you tomorrow.

-See you tomorrow. — Both Miles and Phoenix said, exiting the Leblanc. Ren sighed relieved.

-I was expecting the worst.

-Seriously!? Even from your mentors? — Morgana asked.

-Yeah, they are very serious with their work, as well as me. — Ren said.

-You know, you should ask them about your power. It might be a good help for you.

-I was going to do that, but…

-But what…?

-I have a feeling, I'm not going to like the answer they have for me. — Ren said.

On the streets, Phoenix and Miles looked at Leblanc with concern.

-I'm worried about him. — Miles said.

-You are not the only one. It seems he's like us. — Phoenix said. — But everything at their respective time. We can't force him to tell us about it.

-True. I never expected you to mature so much. — Miles commented.

-I'm a father. I matured over the years. But I'm not the only one, right?

Miles chuckled.

-Right. We matured a lot.

Phoenix sighed.

-Needless to say, I'm worried about what type of dangers they will face.

-You are not the only one. We dealt with dangers no one should face.

-But in the end, we're here, alive to tell the story.

-Yeah.

Phoenix glanced at the sky.

-Miles.

-Yes?

-Do I've told you I'm dating?

-No. With who?

-You know her.

-So, it's…

-Is not so obvious.

-So, it's not Maya, nor Franziska.

-Nope.

Miles glanced at Phoenix.

-It's Iris?

-No. Although I said it wasn't that obvious.

Miles's eyes widened, realizing who is.

-Are you saying you're dating…

-Told you so.

-Since when…? — The chief prosecutor asked.

-A few years. Like you and her.

Miles sighed, as he shook his head in negation.

-My, my, I never expected that from you.

-Neither I when you started dating her as well. I mean, she's your secretary.

-I know. — Miles sighed. — You're worried about her as well.

-Yeah. — Phoenix shrugged. — Needless to say, I have the same worry as Ren. But I need to fight with everything. I have reasons to come back home.

-We have reasons to come back home. — Miles said with a smile. — See you tomorrow, brother. Love you. — Miles said went into his taxi.

-Bye. I see you tomorrow too. Love you too brother. — Phoenix said seeing Miles go in his taxi and calling one who was passing by.

On their way to the hotel, Phoenix and Miles messaged on his phone with a smile. Both decided to enjoy their stay in Japan every single moment. But at the same time, they were worried about Ren. Remembering their past, they simply knew things will be tense for their apprentice. But they knew they couldn't intervene.

-I am thou… — They mumbled looking at the streets.

April, 26. Tuesday.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Early Morning.

-So, that's happened. — Ren said, finishing to explain.

-For real? — Ryuji whispered, perplexed. — Are you saying they are like us…?

-Yes.

-Damn…! I know they're tough, but I'd never expect— Oh, Kawakami.

-Oh, perfect timing! — Kawakami said, approaching them. — Study hall will be held instead of PE today. I'm letting you know just in case you haven't heard.

-Thank you, Kawakami-sensei. — Ren said. — Is it because Mr. Kamoshida is still arrested? — Ren asked.

-Not quite. He paid the bail. But he has taken the day off.

-He ain't here? — Ryuji asked, surprised.

-I'm surprised as well. — Kawakami exclaimed, then she leaned closer to Ren and Ryuji, covering her mouth with one of her hands. — Don't tell anyone you heard this from me… But we received the word that Mr. Kamoshida is placing himself under suspension. — Kawakami commented, averting her glance from Ren and Ryuji. Then she whispered: — It's such an important time before the tournament too…

-What!? — Ren whispered in shock. — Does anyone want to talk to him?

-Principal Kobayakawa went to talk to him about it, but he supposedly wasn't making any sense.

-Wait, a suspension!? — Ryuji exclaimed, surprised.

-Not so loud! — Kawakami scolded.

-Are you saying Kamoshida after paying the bail he just went home?

-Yes. It's so odd.

-And what about our expulsions? — Ren asked with a serious frown.

-The talks about your expulsions have been put on hold too after the trial… Although I don't know too much about it though.

-Wait, I thought Kamoshida commented on that with you about that. — Ren exclaimed.

-Well, no… Actually, since you commented that, even the teachers were surprised by that, although some of them kind of expected that.

-Wow, simply wow… — Ren said sarcastically. — So, he planned to only tell during the board meeting… I am actually impressed.

-Yeah, like all the teachers.

-What do you mean? — Ren asked, confused.

-All of them are confused and surprised to know about you. About you being a lawyer.

-Oh, I see… I don't think it's that impressive.

-At least for you. Mr. Ushimaru commented about it and everyone went into an uproar.

-I see…

-Anyway, I've relayed what's going on to you.

-Thank you.

Kawakami left and Ryuji glanced at Ren seriously.

-Looks like something happened… At least it sounds different from a mental shutdown… — The blonde commented.

-True. I was worried about that as well. — Ren said. — If we were responsible for a mental shutdown…

-Yeah… — Ryuji kicked the air and sighed. — All we can do is wait…

-True.

-Dude about your mentors…

-I will talk more with them, but they really are Persona-users. I will explain after things cool down.

-You better dude. I can't get antsy for something that might take us down.

-I know. I will explain after I gather enough information.

-Okay… See ya later.

-See you later.

Shujin Academy. Class 2-D.

After School.

Man, all this waiting's got me so antsy! We should go on a trip or something. Whaddya think? — Ryuji messaged.

Sorry, I'm gonna have to pass. — Ann replied.

Why? You busy?

It's Shiho, right? — Ren asked.

Yeah, I'll be visiting her in the hospital after school for the next few days. I can't do much for her, but it'll be nice to at least see her face.

I see. Please send a hello to Mrs. Ayumi. — Ren asked.

I will.

Gotcha… I hope she wakes up soon. — Ryuji said.

Me too. Ann go cheer her up. I'll try to visit her soon as well. — Ren said.

Yeah, thanks — Ann said. — I'm totally down to go somewhere once things calm down though.

Until that time I will gather all the information from my mentors about them being you-know-what. — Ren replied.

Sure we will. I still can't believe they're that… — Ann said.

Yeah, that's kinda surprising, man! I mean… — Ryuji said.

I know, but I don't believe that's something we should discuss this over message. — Ren said.

True. Well, we'll be waiting. — Ann said.

-It seems we'll be not able to see Ann for a while.

-How unfortunate… — Morgana said. — Meanwhile, you should work on your kindness. That way, you can say something encouraging the next time you see her!

-You are right. Meanwhile, I should spend these days carefully. Study to increase my knowledge and a few other things. As well I should talk with my mentors about that.

-Agreed.

-Oh, a message from Ryuji… — Ren said, seeing the message. — It seems he wants to train with me.

-So do you have plans or you'll hang out with Ryuji? — Morgana asked.

"Hmm… I feel my bond with Ryuji will grow sooner. Perhaps it's a good thing to spend my time with him." Ren thought while messaging Ryuji.

Sure, I'll train with you.

All right! Let's do some intense training today.

Okay, don't go easy on me.

Okay. Go change and meet me behind the gym.

Shujin Academy. Courtyard.

After school.

Both Ryuji and Ren ran around the gym, running for the most time they could. After an hour both were panting tiredly, but Ryuji was the one who was still trying to recompose himself.

-Are you alright? — Ren asked.

-No… Dammit! I wanna move better, but I just can't…

-Don't be too hard on yourself.

-I know… but I was trainin' for the nationals back in the day… but now I totally suck balls.

-I know it's difficult, but…

-What the hell do you think you're doing?

A trio of students approached Ren and Ryuji, and the blonde punk quickly recognized them.

-Nakaoka… Takeishi! What're you doin' here?

-Running, huh? I saw you two from the window. — Nakaoka said.

-What, you gonna try to come crawling back to the track team? — Takeishi asked.

-Huh!? H-Hell no…

-Hmm… Speaking of which, this was your secret training spot, wasn't it?

-Yeah, why?

-Well, it's our spot now. — Nakaoka said, pointing towards Takeishi and himself. — You know, us former track team.

-Hey, that wasn't nice of you. — Ren said.

-Shut up, you. We don't even have a locker room anymore, thanks to someone I know.

Ryuji grumbled and Ren looked at him worriedly.

-Hey, let's not fight, okay Ryuji?

-We ain't fightin'…

-At least not yet… — Ren said.

-Yeah, this isn't anything like a fight. Not even close. — Nakaoka said, staring at Ren confused. — Hold on, aren't you that transfer student? — Ren nodded his head in affirmation. — You're really gonna hang around with this loser?

-Is there any problem with me hanging out with him? — Ren asked with his arms crossed.

-No, but…

-So you better leave us alone. We're not disturbing you.

-If I were you I'd be careful with him. You better watch out. He'll hit you the second he gets pissed off. — Said an ex-member of the Track Team. — I heard his dad was the same way. Like father, like son, right? Now that's some scary shit.

-Hey! That don't got anything to do with this…! — Ryuji said.

-And that was rude on your part. — Ren scolded. — Ryuji, calm down, they're not worthy of your time.

-…You're right.

-And besides, that was low of you. Would you like it if I said those things to you? — Ren asked the former teammate of Ryuji.

-No, but… uh…

-That's what I thought.

Everyone went silent after that.

-Look, back then, I… — Ryuji tried to explain.

-I don't need to hear your excuses. — Nakaoka said in a rude way, interrupting Ryuji. — Everyone was going through the same bullshit with Kamoshida. The beatings, the impossible exercises… but we put up with all of it for the track team.

Then Nakaoka approached putting a finger on Ryuji's chest, shoving him slightly.

-But no. You had to go and fuck all of that up! Man, I was stupid for ever thinking you were my teammate…

Nakaoka turned his back from Ryuji, starting to walk away.

-That's all I have to say to you. I'm outta here.

Nakaoka, Takeishi, and the other ex-members left the place and Ryuji started to scratch the back of his head.

-Are you alright? — Ren asked.

-…I nearly smacked him when he was talkin' about my dad… — Ryuji said — Maybe I haven't changed at all…

-But you did. That's what's most important.

-Yeah! You actually helped me to calm down a little. Thanks, man!

-You're welcome!

Ryuji gave a high-five to Ren who only smiled at him.

"I feel my bond with Ryuji is growing deeper…!"

Ren felt his power grow as his bond with Ryuji deepened.

"I feel I can trust in Ryuji even more. I wonder what type of applications this has in battle…"

-…Let's call it a day. — Ryuji said while stretching his arm.

-Let's.

-Hey, Nakaoka! Why didn't you kick his ass!?

-…What? The hell's your problem!?

-Now they're just arguing with each other… — Ryuji said, confused, seeing the confusion on the other side of the courtyard. — …I should stay out of it.

-It's better for both of us. — Ren said. — Let's go home…

Yongen-Jaya District. Alleyways.

Evening.

"Huh, a call from Ryuji."

-Yo, it's me. Are you good to talk? — Ryuji asked.

-Hello Ryuji. Yes, I am. Go ahead.

-I wanted to thank you again for today. I really owe you one, man.

-It was nothing, once again.

-Seriously, I really owe you one. I get pissed off so damn easily. I really gotta work on that.

-I can't exactly blame you for that. He was the one to blame as well.

-Nah, this one's definitely my bad. Besides, I don't wanna cause a scene. I don't wanna get you pulled into worse shit.

-I see. Thank you for your consideration Ryuji.

-Huh… I gotta wonder what they were arguin' about… But hey, I'm an outsider. Nothin' to do with me. Thanks again for today!

-As I said before, it was nothing.

-Okay! Don't forget to massage your legs before you sleep, 'kay? See ya later!

-See you tomorrow, Ryuji.

Ren went inside the Leblanc and received a message from the group.

I went to see Shiho today and I told her we settled things with Kamoshida. She still hasn't regained consciousness… but I had to make amends. — Ann said.

Whaddya mean? You didn't do anything wrong, Ann. — Ryuji texted. — Right, Ren

Yes, it wasn't your fault Ann. It was all Kamoshida's fault. — Ren texted.

But I wasn't there when she needed help. I'm a failure as a friend… I have to do all I can to make up for that, starting now. Otherwise, I don't think I'll be able to move on. — Ann said.

Man, I didn't know you were so passionate. I totally didn't notice that back in middle school. — Ryuji replied.

I think it's because of you guys. I'm a little embarrassed though. — Ann replied. — Anyway, Ryuji, Ren… I hope we can keep helping each other out from now on too.

Me too. — Ren replied before putting back his phone in his pocket.

-I'll go study now.

-Okay, I'll lock the shop. Don't go to sleep late.

-Okay.

April, 27. Wednesday.

Yongen-Jaya. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

After school, Ren spent his time at the cinema. He checked his phone and answered a few messages before going upstairs.

-…So. Getting used to the city? — Sojiro asked.

-A little. There's more to know. — Ren replied.

-…I see. You're the only one here at night, so I'm not gonna bother setting a curfew or anything like that. So long as you're taking school seriously, I don't mind if you stroll the streets in the evenings. But only around these parts, got it? You go back on your word, I'll kick you right out.

-Okay.

-Remember, I'm the one who has to lock the door. Just make sure you're not out there for too long, all right?

-All right.

Ren heard his phone ring and he saw it was a message from his mentors.

Ren, are you in Leblanc now? — Phoenix asked.

Yes, I am. I mean, I'm going to the bathhouse now, but I'll be back in twenty minutes, why?

We want to talk with you. We need to continue that conversation.

Okay. I'll be waiting.

-I'm going to the bathhouse.

-Okay.

Ren went to the bathhouse and enjoyed a long bath. After that, he went back and he found his mentors at Leblanc, waiting for him.

-Well, you lock the store. If you need anything you call me. My number is written in your agenda, right? — Sojiro asked.

-Yes, it is.

-Okay. Do you two need anything else?

-No Mr. Sakura, we're good. — Miles replied.

-No. Thank you Sakura-san. — Phoenix answered.

-I'll be going now.

Then Sojiro left Leblanc. Ren sat down and gazed at both his mentors.

-So, can you two tell me more about it? About those manifestations?

-Yes, we can.

-You two said this wasn't the only manifestation. The Dark Hour was one example. The other one was the World of Order. There Are other manifestations?

-Yes. The Midnight Channel. That was another manifestation, related to strangely assassination cases. To access that they need to enter into the TV.

-Into a television? Wow, impressive. Did you guys have to deal with that?

-Not directly. But we had to deal with a case similar to the Midnight Channel. Let's just say things almost didn't end well. — Miles said.

-Ugh, I can imagine that. Let me guess: Some psycho went after you. — Ren said.

-Yeah, and don't forget the ghost of the past will be ready to screw with you, being a pain in the ass at the worst moment. — Phoenix commented.

-I can imagine. But I'm most interested in your manifestation: The World of Order. What it seems like? How is the atmosphere? Which aspects are similar to the Metaverse?

-Too many questions, huh… — Phoenix noted.

-I'm just curious. — Ren admitted.

-Well then, I guess it's normal. First of all, The World of Order was represented by a courthouse. A giant courthouse we called Bahamut.

-Why Bahamut?

-The Courthouse has the same figurative representation of the original myth of Bahamut, that was a giant whale, which was on his back a giant bull which was on his back an angel. According to the legends, they say Bahamut keeps the balance of the world. The courthouse was a libra representing both the bull and the jewel that had seven pillars on each side, keeping the seven seas and the seven skies on hold, in perfect balance. The goddess of law Thetis is the representation of the angel and the skies and the seas that are represented by the pillars.

-Wow. That must have an amazing view! — Ren commented, truly surprised.

-It is. The first time we found out we were as impressed as you. — Miles said. — On that representation, we had to face our past and present.

-I see, almost like me, huh?

-Yeah, because we faced our Shadows.

-What!? You faced your Shadows!? — Morgana exclaimed, surprised as well. — But it should be impossible.

-Remember, such a thing as impossible does not exist. It's possible, we fought against them.

-But facing your own Shadow… Is that even possible? — Morgana asked astounded.

-In certain manifestations yes. We are not entirely sure, but considering our personal experience…

-And how were you facing your own Shadows?

Phoenix bowed his head and Miles averted his eyes from Ren.

-It was… terrible… You could say it was a living nightmare… — Phoenix said, his voice visibly shaken. — We faced the worst side of us.

-You mean…? — Ren said.

-Shadows are our true selves, suppressed by us, and a side we desperately want to disappear. It's our refusal, your denial of our weakness. You could say it's our ID.

-Sigmund Freud. ID, Ego, and Alter Ego. ID is our Shadows, Ego is our consciousness.

-And Personas are the Alter Ego, the best side of us. — Miles completed Ren's phrase. — Personas are the total opposite of the Shadows.

-They're acceptance, resolution… — Phoenix said.

-Comprehension, reflection… — Miles said.

-Our true selves unleashed. — Ren said. — So you two had faced your Shadows and won?

-Yes. And we accepted our flaws. That was necessary for us to awaken our Personas. — Miles said. — Although I need to say it was quite surprising for us to do that.

-Speaking of which, what do you two call your Personas?

-That's a curious question. The answer to that is Tarot Cards.

-Tarot Cards? — Ren asked, confused.

-Yes. As your mask it's the representation of your true self, our Tarot Cards are the representation of the evidence we hold and once we crush it we break the limitations that possess to reach the truth.

-I see…

-Also it's a representation of destiny itself. When we crush it, we say we're not bound by that, and we let our own path towards our future.

-So much symbolism… So, what's your two Arcana?

Both Miles and Phoenix looked at each other and smiled at Ren.

-You should know, our fellow Fool. — Both replied with a huge smile on their face.

Ren looked at both perplexed.

-Wait, what!? — Ren yelled, losing his coolness. — Are you two saying…?

-Yes, our fellow Wild Card. We are Wild Cards as well. Our main Arcana is the Fool Arcana.

Ren looked at both and then he averted his eyes, looking at the coffee maker.

-Fuck… — He whispered. — That's why I felt you are so similar to me…

-Yeah, I felt their power too. Needless to say, I'm surprised as well. — Morgana said. — To both have the same Arcana as him. That means you two understand more about the Wild Card power than anyone else.

-You could say that… — Both Phoenix and Miles said slightly embarrassed. — Morgana, can you go for a walk? We need to have a particular talk with Ren.

-Ren…? — Morgana called.

-Morgana, if you please.

The supernatural cat sighed, but he shook his head in affirmation.

-I will. I'll be back in an hour.

Morgana went upstairs and exited Leblanc from the window. Ren looked at both his mentors with a serious frown.

-Did you access the Velvet Room? — Miles asked.

-Yes, I do. I have some questions about that place.

-Fire away. — Phoenix said.

-What is that guy…? Igor…

-He? He's the master of the Velvet Room, the host, and one of the residents of that place. He's a neutral being that aid's the guests who possess a mission. — Miles explained.

-A mission…?

-Something they need to fulfill in order to aid humanity itself. Like you, we had our mission to fulfill. — Phoenix said

-I see… Actually, he meant something… about ruin…

-What…?

-He said ruin awaits for me.

-So your mission it's to avoid ruin…

-It seems like it, but there's something wrong with him. As he's… Never mind. I don't think I'll ever understand him.

-Igor it's a mysterious figure… We don't fully understand his purpose, but we know he stands for humanity. — Miles said

"It didn't seem like it. His aura, it's somehow dark."

-He seems… odd.

-He kinda is, but don't get fooled, Ren. Igor, it's extremely powerful. Him and his children. — Phoenix said.

-You mean the assistants?

-Yes. Each guest has an assistant to aid the guest on the journey. We both had ones as well. — Miles explained.

-I see… Anything more?

-The place reflects the guest's heart, which is related to the person's mission and consequently to his destiny. The place it's really something I dare to say. — Phoenix said.

-And how was the Velvet Room in your case? — Ren asked.

-It was like a modern courtroom. I dare to say there's some liberty in the way the layout. — Miles replied. — Still, it's a courtroom. What is your reflection?

-That's the thing. Mine was a mixture. A mashup of a courthouse and a prison. The layout maybe resembles your reflection of the Velvet Room, but I'm not sure.

-A prison and a courtroom… You truly see yourself as a defendant of fate…

-Yeah, it seems like it… Still, it's so odd to see that… As if something is missing…

-I see… — Both Phoenix and Miles said. — But, you are habituating yourself with the Velvet Room, right?

-Yes, I am. But I still can't shake off this feeling. — Ren explained.

-We understand. — Miles said. — But I really hate to say this, we don't want to know any more about it.

-I know. You two simply can't interfere, correct?

Both Phoenix and Miles nodded in agreement.

-It's your mission Ren, your and from the Phantom Thieves. We can't intervene, only aid you when it's strictly necessary. — Phoenix said with a serious frown. — You can count on our help and loyalty. Our secret is safe with us.

-I know. Thank you.

-Well then, do you have any more questions? — Miles asked

-The ACE Team, it's a Persona-users team, right? — Ren asked.

-Correct.

-So, they know.

-Yeah. But we can be entirely sure about this. I mean it's obvious there are other groups of Persona-users before us, but we are not entirely sure if all of them know about our existence or not. But we can say there are groups of Persona-users we know and they are aware of us, as we are aware of them.

-So, they know about that…?

-Not entirely yet. They have suspicions, but they can't simply intervene. It's an unspoken rule, but everyone knows, because if someone intervenes, maybe, just maybe, humanity will face serious consequences. — Phoenix said.

-So, they can't simply intervene…

-Exactly.

-I see.

-Well, we do believe that's all for today. We'll explain more later. — Miles said.

-I understand. Thank you.

-It was nothing.

-Actually, I have one more question.

-Yes? — Both Phoenix and Miles asked.

-We are guests of the Velvet Room, correct? So, do we have free access when they want to?

Both Phoenix and Miles looked at each other and nodded.

-Yes.

-I see. Thank you. Well, better close up the shop, or Sojiro will be mad at me.

-Okay. We'll be going now. Bye Ren. — Phoenix said.

-Bye Ren. We'll see you later.

-Bye Chief Nick and Chief Miles. See you later.

Phoenix and Miles exited the shop and Ren locked the door.

-So how was the conversation? — Morgana asked.

-It was good. We talked about a few cases we worked on together. — Ren replied as we went upstairs.

-I see… Did you talk about your power…?

-Yes I do.

-And what did they say?

-They couldn't help much. It seems they're on the same boat as me.

-I see… Well better go to sleep, you'll need to rest.

-Okay.

April, 27. Wednesday.

Yongen-Jaya. Takemi Medical Clinic.

After School.

Ren arrived at the clinic and he promptly knocked on the glass, calling Tae's attention.

-I'm here for the Clinical Trial. "Now I feel confident enough to go to the trial, at least I feel I have the guts for that."

-Glad to know. I finished the medicine. I sent you a message, didn't I?

-Yes, I saw it. — Ren said, showing the message. — So, what are we waiting for?

-So eager, aren't you? I hope you have the same disposition for the clinical trial.

Ren laughed.

-I couldn't expect less.

-In that case, I'm going to start setting up, so go wait in the examination room. — Tae said going to the examination room.

-Well, I'm gonna walk around. Let me know when you are ready to leave. — Morgana said, jumping out of the bag and Ren opened the door for him to exit.

Ren went into the examination room and he sat on the bed. Tae came with a glass full of blue medicine.

-…Here we go. — She said sitting on her chair. — I made various adjustments to the previous drug, based on your trial results.

-I can see that… "Behold, now it's blue." Ren joked mentally, expecting to pass out again.

-All right, drink it down in one gulp.

Ren did as Tae ordered and he drank the medicine in one gulp.

"The taste now is powerful, both sour and bitter. It overwhelms me. And the smell is terrible. Damn, I can't breathe well." Ren thought nodding his head and slowly taking off his shoes and laid on the bed. "At least… I…"

Then he fainted. Tae looked at him and examined him for several minutes with satisfaction. After almost an hour, he started to regain his consciousness.

-…Ah, your reaction to it is absolutely perfect. — She said, making notes.

-I feel dizzy… Everything is spinning… Did the changes… of the medicine… you made it?

-You feel a bit dazed, hm? Yes, I mixed in some special… components.

"Great… Just great." Ren thought, avoiding showing his annoyance. "I wonder what she mixed on that medicine…"

-Okay, let's take your temperature and blood pressure. I'm also going to draw some blood.

-Okay… Nothing I haven't done before…

-Quite the enthusiasm, hum? — Tae jokes.

-Hey, it's me… doing the hard… part of the job… — Ren joked back.

-Right… I also want to perform a few motor skills tests. But those might be too much for you right now.

-Okay… What's next?

-Anyway, since we're in the final stages, I should first stabilize the fundamental formula, and…

-…Oh, so you ARE here.

Ren sat up and he saw a police officer entering the examination room. He noticed Tae's face twisted in annoyance, but she kept her composure.

-…I'm in the middle of an examination. I've told you, Officer. If you want to investigate me, you need to show me a warrant.

-Hmph! I'm here because we received a report.

-A report? From who? — Ren asked.

-Yes, and it was anonymous. I'll need to see a detailed statement of medical expenses and full medical records. I bet you didn't have enough time to hide any incriminating documents, huh?

-Officer… I…

-…Must be under the orders of the Medical Chief of Staff.

Ren looked at Tae with surprise.

"She knows who was the person who made the report… How…?"

-Here you go. — Tae said, giving her a clipboard.

-Huh?

-This kid here is my only patient today. If you're asking for his medical expenses, I'm guessing I'm under suspicion of improper billing? But without a receipt, I'd say you've been sent on a wild goose chase.

"How she… Perhaps she dealt with that before…" Ren thought.

-Huh!? Wh-What's going on here? — The arrogant officer asked, his voice visibly shaken due to his confusion.

-You're being manipulated. That "report" is fictitious.

-What!? — The guard yelped in surprise. — …Hey, you!

-Yes?

-What're you doing here!? You don't seem to be sick… Are you up to something illegal!?

Ren glanced at the officer and gave an innocent smile.

-Officer, I'm here just for some check-ups. I have a bad heart.

-B-Bad heart!? You mean…

-He's stressed about taking his entrance exams. I have some drugs that help with relaxation. — Tae said calmly.

-Are you serious? Aren't you, her lover or something? — The officer asked.

-And if I am, is there any problem, officer? — Ren asked.

-Er… I…

-Officer, I do believe that report was merely a sham. If you have any proof saying otherwise I'd suggest you show it. If not you can leave.

-Er…

-So, is there anything else? As you can see, I'm pretty busy here. — Tae said, taking her clipboard back and starting her notes.

-You're infuriating, you know that? Hmph… but I'd expect nothing less from the "Plague"

"Why'd he call her that way…?" Ren thought silently.

The officer left the clinic and Tae sighed in annoyance.

-I'm so over this…

-I agree with you. I know how it is.

Tae smiled.

-I think we're going to get along just fine. — Tae said.

-So, care to explain?

-It's nothing to worry about. I'm sure it was my former superior who made that false report. You've eavesdropped on our conversation the other day, remember?

-That guy? Are you saying he is still disturbing you?

-Yes. He's just trying to put pressure on me… by having the police investigate me and my practice.

-That sucks… I can relate to that…

-Really?

-Let's just say… — Ren averted his eyes from Tae. — I know how it is being pursued by someone who wants to get rid of you.

-I see… — Tae stood up. — Anyway, I need to draw some blood. There'll be some mild anemia, but temporarily. You'll be fine… It's part of our "deal", remember?

Ren only gave a creep smirk.

"It seems I don't have a choice… Oh well."

-Okay then. — Ren said, extending his arm. — It's a deal.

-I like kids who listen to their superiors. Enjoy your medicine.

"I feel my bond with Tae growing even deeper."

Ren felt his power grow as he felt his bond with Tae grow.

"I feel my power growing."

-I'm going to draw more blood than usual… since you're healthy and all…

Ren was taken off his thoughts and he flinched in surprise, giving a wry smile. He heard Tae giggle.

-…Only kidding.

-Why not? If you need to…

Tae then laughed.

-Okay, now please lie down. You can go home once I'm done.

Ren did as she ordered and Tae continued the proceedings. After half an hour Tae finished the proceedings and sent Ren back home. On his way back to Leblanc, only one thing was on Ren's mind.

"What is she hiding…?"

He felt slightly dizzy due to the blood loss, but he managed to recompose himself. As he arrived at Leblanc, he heard his phone ringtone.

-Hello?

-Hi, my little guinea pig. D'you get home safely? You still seemed kind of dizzy when you left the clinic, so I figured I'd check in. You know how it is. Some patients get sick on their way back home.

Ren smiled to hear Tae's voice.

-Yes. I only fainted on the way, but I'm fine.

He heard her giggled again.

-Kidding. I feel fine.

-Yeah, I know and you sound all right. Guess I've got nothing to worry about.

"As long as I don't worry her, everything will be fine."

-…I think you'll be okay, but call me if you start feeling sick.

-I will. Don't worry about me.

-Okay, I'm looking forward to our next clinical trial.

Ren went inside the Leblanc and Sojiro looked at him.

-Got a minute?

-Want my help?

-Yes. You don't work, you don't eat. Ever heard that phrase before?

Ren only smiled.

-No need to threaten me with food, you know? — Ren teased

-Yes, I know, but if you are up for it, why don't you learn how to work here…

"Why not?"

-I will change then I'll help you.

-So you do get it. All right, put your stuff down and come back here. It's about time one of the regulars arrives. She's a talkative one…

Ren went upstairs and changed his clothes. Once back he put on an apron and started to aid Sojiro by cleaning the dishes. Once he was done, he looked at the boss.

-Okay, what's next?

-I like your enthusiasm. — Sojiro said with a smile. — Now then, since you're gonna be working in my store, I'll need to hammer home the basics… You know what I'm talking about, right?

-Yes. Making coffee. You'll teach me how to brew beans and etcetera, right?

-Yup. Glad to see you at least understand that much. This store is not the busiest around, but I'm really particular about how we do things here. And I'll kick you out no questions asked if you serve a bad cup, you got that?

-Fair enough. I'll do my best.

-That's the spirit.

-Let me tell you So-chan definitely does things right with his coffee. — The regular said, taking a sip of her coffee. — It goes so well with his special curry, I can't help but order the set meal every time.

Sojiro ran his hand on the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed, but with a proud smile on his face.

-What can I say, each one of my regulars gets an experience personally tailored to them. — Sojiro said.

-Can you tell me the key to that wonderful flavor, So-chan? I'd love to make it at home sometime.

-Sorry, that's a trade secret. You're free to try and guess based on the taste though.

-Cheapskate. Keeping secrets from me even though you know how your food's already stolen my heart.

Ren couldn't help but smile.

"Perhaps stealing a heart is not a tough job for a boss." He thought.

-How about a nice dessert then? It's only three hundred yen. — Sojiro offered and the regular nodded in agreement.

After the meal, she leaves the store and Sojiro turns to Ren.

-When you run a shop, you get all sorts of customers. Knowing their personalities is absolutely vital. That's what being in food service is all about.

-I see. To conquer their loyalty, we need to treat them well.

-Exactly.

Another person went inside the store and Sojiro turns in his direction.

-Welco— You…

-Boss… Are you alright? — Ren asked worriedly.

-Yes, I am…

-Hello there! It's been quite a while, Sakura-san! — The person greeted cheerfully.

"He's not here to order anything." Ren noticing the fake tone of cheerfulness in his voice.

-I heard you opened up a store, so here I am! It wouldn't have hurt to mention it to me though. — The man looked around, giving a whistle. — Huh, you've got a really nice location here. Right by the station and everything.

-Your order? — Sojiro asked harshly, ignoring the man's comments.

-No small talk? That's cold. Oh… but this smell! Sure brings back memories! You're still making that curry, huh? I guess you haven't gotten over her yet…

-Your order, sir? — Sojiro asked even more harshly. The man laughed.

-So pushy. I just stopped in to say hi today… but I'll be back again soon! Bye.

The man exited the shop and Ren gave a worried look to Sojiro.

-Ugh… I don't know where he caught wind of this place.

-That guy seems suspicious… I don't like him.

Sojiro gave Ren a smile.

-Heh, I guess you have an eye for some things after all.

-You could say as an attorney, you need to have an eye for that. I have some doubts about what he meant though, but it's not my business.

-That's right, it's not your business. Anyway, if you have time for questions, you have time to learn about bean types. You're not gonna be any use to me if you can't pick up on the ABCs sometime soon.

-Okay.

-And besides, ladies love a guy who knows his coffee. This isn't such a bad deal for you.

Ren laughed.

-Is that funny?

-You remind me of someone. He loves to brew his own coffee too. You know, I want ladies to love me. Actually, I want only one to love me, the one who caught my attention.

Sojiro smiled.

-Heh, if only you were this obedient all the time. — Sojiro commented.

"But I am… Oh well."

-Either way, I'm gonna teach you right. That way I'll be able to sit back and relax while you work.

Ren laughed.

-Well, what're you waiting for? Teach me then.

-Well, for starters…

Ren felt his bond with Sojiro deepened as his power grew more and more. After half an hour, Sojiro heard the clock bell.

-…Oh, is it time already? — Sojiro turned his head in Ren's direction. — Let's start closing up. And no slacking off, you got it?

-Got it.

"Hm. Learning with Sojiro about customer service has made my kindness improve. Maybe I can learn even more from him." Ren thought, helping Sojiro to close the shop. After some time, Ren changed to his pajamas and was ready to sleep when he heard his phone ringing.

-Hello.

-Hey, it's me. Guess this number works.

-Hello Sojiro. And what did you mean about how this number works?

-I forgot to ask for your cell number, so I had to dig it out of your papers. A real hassle lemme tell you.

"Why am I not surprised…?" Ren thought.

-I see… I will save this number. — Ren said.

-Anyway, have you closed up yet? I'm gonna have you handle that from now on, so you better learn now.

-Already done that.

-Seems like you're a quick study, so I hope you've got the hang of it.

-Got it. You can count on me.

-Don't forget it. Once you're a little more settled in, I'm gonna have you doing more chores.

-Okay.

-…But man. Not sure how I feel about calling up a guy's phone.

Ren gave a mental chuckle.

-It's okay, after all, I'd believe it's better you have my number saved for an emergency. You're my guardian, remember? So, you'll need to call me anytime.

-Anyhow, we'll get the routine ground into you. That way, I might be able to take it easy.

-Okay.

-All right, don't stay up too late.

Then Sojiro hung up. Ren only smiled as he went to his bed.

-That'll be a long year. — Ren commented before going to sleep.

April, 29. Friday.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

Ren arrived at Leblanc and saw Sojiro preparing some curry.

-That smells good.

-Your first try was good, you did as I ordered, although it was a little bland.

-Yeah.

-So why are you talking with me? Are you finally interested in coffee brewing? If you'll help, I can teach you.

-I want to. I will change my clothes.

-Okay, then you clean up. I'm going to finish preparing the curry.

After changing his clothes and washing the dishes, Ren was memorizing the bean types as Sojiro carefully prepared the curry. Ren was selecting some of them, preparing carefully.

-All right, that's it for tomorrow's curry. — Sojiro said, finishing the curry. — Hey, how's it going? Are you getting any better at remembering how to handle different bean types?

-Yes, I guess.

Sojiro approached Ren and started to help him to prepare the coffee.

-Now then… There are three factors that determine the flavor of a cup of coffee: grind, heat, and time. First up is the grind. For the siphons we have here, we're aiming for medium-fine.

-I see…

-…Are you listening to me? What grind are you supposed to use?

-Medium-fine for those beans.

-Right. Keep up the good work.

-Thank you. — Ren said, starting to grind the beans.

-It doesn't net much profit given the effort it takes, but hey, money is money.

Ren smirked.

-I have to agree with you.

-Just remember, I'm not going to forgive you if you serve crap coffee though. Just remember that.

-I know. So teach me how to brew coffee, then.

-I will.

Sojiro's phone rang and he promptly took it from his pocket.

-Who could this be…? — He asked, answering the call. — Yes, hello? …How'd you get this number? Now? Where? *sigh* …Fine.

Sojiro ended the call and turned in Ren's direction.

-Sorry, something just came up. We can keep going to the lessons some other time.

-Did something happen? — Ren asked worriedly.

-What, you worried about me? — Sojiro teased. — …It's nothing you need to concern yourself over.

-I know, but if you need help, I'm here.

-Just do the dishes while I'm gone. Oh, and remember to shut off the gas before you close up the shop.

-I will. Anything else?

-No. It's nice having someone around to help at times like this. Turns out you're actually a harder worker than I thought. Keep it up.

"Guess that was a compliment."

-I will.

Ren felt his power grow as his bond with Sojiro deepened. Sojiro walked towards the door.

-Okay, I'm off. Don't eat all the food while I'm gone.

-Okay.

Ren finished the dishes and ate his dinner, doing as Sojiro ordered. After that, he went to sleep. Receiving a call, Ren saw Sojiro's number on the display, quickly answering the call.

-Hello.

-Hey, you get everything closed up? — Sojiro asked.

-Yes, as you asked. Did everything go well?

-Yes. Sorry about earlier. Had to take care of some business. But don't worry, I'll put you to work.

-No worries. I know how it is. I just hope we can resume our lessons soon.

-I will. We've got lots of time on our hands.

-I'm ready to work.

-Raring to go, huh? Some work ethic you got there.

-Hey, I am ready to work anytime. You should know that well.

-I know. Well, just make sure you turn off the stove before heading to bed.

-Already done that too.

-Okay. See you later.

Sojiro hung up the call and Ren went to his bed.

April, 30. Saturday.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Class 2-D.

After School.

Ren was organizing his things when he received a message from Ryuji.

I kinda wanna talk today… Well more like I gotta unload all this crap on my chest. Why don't we go grab some ramen? Y'know, shake things up. I'll take you over to a special shop I know.

"Ryuji is inviting me to hang out… Maybe that can improve our bond even more. Maybe I should go."

Let's go. I'll leave now. — Ren answered.

It's kinda far, but the flavor's killer.

How far is it? — Ren asked.

Get pumped, dude! It's over Ogikubo, so let's grab a train over there!

Okay.

"Ogikubo… I found it! It's kinda far… Well better go now."

Ogikubo District. Ramen Shop.

After School.

Both Ryuji and Ren ordered their ramens and a few minutes later both of them received their respective dishes. Both savor their ramen, enjoying the flavor of the food.

-Ahhh! I love the feelin' of noodles slidin' down my throat! — Ryuji commented after finishing his food. — Sweat drippin' over my face.

"That last part… was kinda gross…" Ren commented silently, but he nodded in agreement.

-I know. Damn, you're right, the flavor is a killing one. Never ate something so delicious. — Ren said with a content smile on his face.

-I know, right!? This shit's the best, man! Ramen is life!

Ren laughed.

-I have my doubts…

-But it is! Light soup like this really gets your body goin' again after a good run, y'know. We used to come here all the way out here after practice and…

Then Ryuji trailed off.

-Ryuji…?

-Uh, I guess that's all in the past… — He said with a faint smile.

-It's okay. There's no problem remembering the good memories. — Ren assured.

-Thanks… By the way, I've seen Nakaoka around a few times… But for some reason, it doesn't look like he's gettin' along with the others.

-Are you worried about him? — Ren asked.

-Yeah… Kinda. — Ryuji replied.

-Okay, tell me what's going on.

-It's that obvious?

-Kind of. Now go ahead, I'm all ears.

Ryuji sighed.

-I've been thinkin' about what he said… How the whole track team was puttin' up with Kamoshida's shit… And how I effed it all up for 'em…

"I know he was thinking about that, but I never thought he'd felt so guilty about it…"

-Ryuji—

-…I think he was right.

-Huh?

-They don't even have a club room anymore, so they've been storin' all their stuff behind the gym. They can't use the school gear either, so they just run laps around the block for practice.

-Ryuji…

-…There ain't really a place for outcasts like that. I should know that better than anyone.

-Ryuji. It wasn't your fault. It could have been anyone.

-Still. It's good they're keepin' their heads up low now though. I don't want 'em endin' up like me.

-But you're doing great. You're doing your all to move on and return back to run. I dare to say, you're an example. And as I said before, it could've been anyone Ryuji. Don't try to be something you aren't.

-…Y'know what? You're right! — Ryuji said happily.

-See? I told you. Don't try to be something you aren't. You can't change the past.

-Yeah, I know. I guess now that I'm thinkin' about it, tryin' to fit in is a real pain in the ass. I mean, I'd never've met you guys if I wasn't an outcast, right? So, uh… it's all good.

Ren only smiled.

-Perhaps not in the same way, but yes, you're right.

-And besides, it's cool!

-Cool? — Ren asked, confused.

-Yeah, cool! For real though, it's been a shit ton of fun! Hangin' out with you guys is so freakin' cool!

-I'm glad… — Ren said, slightly disconcerted.

Ren felt his power grow as his bond with Ryuji deepened.

-…I just hope there's something I can do to help those track guys. Though it'd prolly mess 'em up if I tried to butt in…

After hearing that Ren gave an assuring smile.

-I'm sure you'll find a way. Until then, better let them be.

-You're right. Oh yeah, we still gotta find a new spot for our trainin'.

-True…

-Hm… I'll think about it. No slackin' off 'till then, mkay?

-Okay. I wasn't planning on stopping training.

-Welp, it's late. I see you later then?

-Yeah, see you later Ryuji.

Then Ren and Ryuji went their way back home.

May, 1. Sunday.

Yongen-Jaya District. Takemi Medical Clinic.

Daytime.

Ren checked the message one more time, ready to leave Leblanc and go to Tae's clinic.

Have you had any side effects since then? Passed out at all? I'd like to check you out, just in case… I don't have any patients. Could you stop by the clinic?

I'll head over now. Wait for me. — Ren replied.

OK. I'll be waiting.

Ren exited Leblanc and went his way to Tae's Clinic. Once he arrived he stood up in front of her, knocking lightly on the glass.

-Morning.

-Morning. I refined the medicine from the other day a bit. Could you come to the back?

-I'm impressed you refined it in such a short amount of time.

-What can I say? I work fast.

-Consider me duly impressed.

Tae giggled.

-Excited, aren't we? I'm going to start setting up then. Head into the examination room.

Ren enters the examination room and waits for Tae. After several minutes, she gave him a glass filled with a yellow substance.

-Here you go… The effects should be instantaneous this time. — She said.

-Okay. Here I go!

Ren drank the medicine in one gulp and he waited for the effects. However, after several minutes, nothing has happened.

-Odd, I don't feel anything. — He commented as Tae examined him.

-…Let's see. Eyes are focused. Look this way. One, two, three, four… nothing yet, huh?

After a few more minutes, Ren felt his mouth burn and his nose itching. Tae smiled proudly.

-Oh, there it is. The inhibitory effect is just as I hoped. — Tae said.

-Inhibitory effect? — Ren asked

-Yes.

-I'm impressed it took long for the medicine to take effect. — Ren commented.

-Your weight was the primary reason it took longer to kick than expected. Yes, this is what I expected from a teenager. — Tae said.

-Still burns my mouth… But I'm glad the result ended as expected.

-We're making great progress. Practice makes perfect, right?

-Right. — Ren said with a smile, even suffering from the medicine's effects.

-Okay, hold tight. Once I compile all the data, we can move on…

Then the clinic phone rang and Tae quickly attended the call.

-Hello, Takemi Medical Clinic of Internal Medicine. How can I help you? …An emergency, huh? But we're not a designated hospital… Besides… The head physician here is Tae Takemi… Ah?

Tae put the phone back to his base and grunted in annoyance.

-…Awfully rude! Just hanging up on a lady like that.

Ren sighed, feeling that touched a sensitive subject.

-Sorry to ask, but what was that about?

-Oh, don't worry about it. It was just an ambulance driver who was looking for a transfer location. All the designated hospitals are full. But to think they'd accidentally call a general practitioner… Must've been a new paramedic… He seemed to at least know my name though.

-Okay, can you explain to me? — Ren asked and Tae sighed.

-I've been blacklisted by the larger medical community.

-Blacklisted…

-Yes. They call me the Plague… due to a grave medical error I made.

-A medical error? It doesn't seem likely... What really happened?

Tae sighed again and shook her head.

-This goes back to my old job…

-So you had a job before you opened your clinic?

-Yes. I used to work at a university hospital in the city.

-So, why did you open the clinic? I don't believe you were convicted.

-I was never actually convicted of anything, but I am still considered a pariah in the medical industry.

-I see…

Tae gave a cryptic smile to Ren.

-…Does that scare you? Participating in clinical trials run by a doctor like that?

-Honestly, I don't mind.

-It's because of the medicine, right?

-At first, yes, but now I'm just trying to see how I can screw with myself.

Tae giggled.

-What a sense of humor.

Ren laughed, then he glanced seriously at Tae.

-Seriously, for you, I don't mind submitting myself to these clinical trials for you. "After all, that was one of my main reasons to do that though."

Tae blushed slightly and glanced at him with a confused look.

-…You seriously are one strange kid.

Ren shrugged.

-What can I say? I never was an example of normalness.

-Really?

Ren sighed and glanced at Tae.

-Remember I told you I'm an attorney? I became one after going to jail.

-Jail? You were arrested?

-Yes. I tried to defend a woman from a drunk person. He trips and falls on his own and gets wounded. When the police arrived, he accused me and the woman was threatened by him. You can guess what happened.

-You were arrested?

-Does that scare you? The fact I was arrested?

-No. Actually, I can see you aren't a criminal, just a stupid kid who loves to risk yourself unnecessarily.

Ren laughed and Tae looked at him.

-As I said, I never was an example of a normal person.

-But I know you're not a criminal. You'd never hurt anyone.

Ren glanced at Tae who was staring at him with a serious frown.

-You're not the type of person who will do something without a good reason, I can see that. And as for you being arrested… I can only say you are like me. You were convicted without proof. I can sympathize with you, Doctor Takemi.

-Yeah… I know how it feels to be ostracized by everyone. I guess that was bad for your research somehow.

-But, that's fine, being ostracized has enabled me to focus on my own research and development. Regardless, I look forward to working with you.

-I see… Well, I am willing to help you the best I can.

-I like your enthusiasm. I just hope you'll have the same enthusiasm after I do some exams and draw your blood.

Ren laughed.

-I'm looking forward to it.

-I'll be sure to add some additional "medicine" for you, my little guinea pig.

-Okay, doctor.

Ren felt his bond with Tae deepened and he felt his power growing even more. The phone rang once again and Tae promptly answered the call.

-Hello, Dr. Takemi's Clinic of Internal Medicine… Huh? One order of teriyaki chicken?

Ren smirked as Tae hung up the call.

-You deal with that every single day? — He teased and Tae gave a hard glance to him. — -Sorry.

-It's okay, I guess. It wasn't like I received unusual calls before.

-I can imagine.

-By the way, did I help you in that case? The one you come to me, to learn more about that medical chart?

-Yes. Your help was very useful.

Tae continued to examine him for several minutes before nodding in agreement.

-…You're all good for today. You can go home now.

-Okay…

-Come again soon, if you're still alive.

Ren smirked again.

-I don't die that easily, Doctor Takemi. Well, I'm going home. Call me if you need anything.

-I will.

Ren exited the clinic and went his way back to the Leblanc. He heard his phone ring and he saw he was receiving a call from Tae.

-Yes, Doctor Takemi?

-Hey, my little guinea pig. I have to talk to you about something…

-Go ahead.

-You… haven't told anyone about my drugs, right? — Tae asked reluctantly.

-Of course, I haven't. If that's your worry, you can relax. I haven't told anyone.

-…Okay. I mean, part of the deal is that you're strictly prohibited from sharing anything that happens here, so I guess I'll believe you for now. — Tae said, relieved.

-If you want to, you can sign a contract with me and sue me if that happens.

-Don't tempt me. Feels like I've been getting a lot more patients asking for drugs lately.

-If you want, I can check this for you. It's not a bother for me, so…

-No, it's okay. Still, I wonder where they keep hearing about me… It's been really bugging me.

-Maybe it was your former boss?

-Maybe. But that's all I wanted to ask, I guess.

-If you need anything, send me a message or call me.

-Okay, see you soon.

"I don't like this. Something is happening in that clinic and I'm almost sure it was Takemi's former boss. Better do some investigation on my own."

Ren went into Leblanc and discussed a few things with Sojiro before going back to the street and taking a bath in the bathhouse. After that, he went back to Leblanc, ready to sleep.

May, 2. Monday.

Aoyama-Itchome District. Shujin Academy.

Gymnasium/Auditorium.

Early Morning.

-What's with the sudden morning assembly?

-I bet it's about that girl that jumped the other day.

-They don't have to tell us not to commit suicide.

-There was that weird calling card too, so I guess the teachers are freaking out?

-And what about the transfer student? I heard he had done something to Mr. Kamoshida.

-I heard he managed to arrest him, according to what they heard from Mr. Kobayakawa.

-Is the transfer student insane? How did he do that?

Ann was dejected by the constant mumbling over of the colleagues. Kobayakawa stood behind on the auditorium tribune and knocked slightly on the microphone, silencing everyone.

-Let's begin this school-wide morning assembly. — Kobayakawa said. — As you know, a tragic event took place the other day. Thankfully, we have been informed that she had pulled through, but it will take time until she recovers. Everyone here has a bright future ahead. I implore that you rethink the importance of life and—

Then everyone heard the exit door open and someone came from outside.

-Mr. Kamoshida, what's the— — Kobayakawa yelped surprised, but Kamoshida lifted his hand, as a plea for silence.

-I… have been reborn. — Kamoshida said with sorrow and angst. — That is why I will confess everything to you all…

Kamoshida went silently to the tribune. He was being followed by two police officers, who tried to order him to come back.

-Mr. Kamoshida, don't go further.

But Kamoshida ignored them and stood behind the tribune, and he looked at everyone with sorrow.

-I have repeatedly done things that were… unbecoming of a teacher. Verbally abusing students… physically abusing my team… and… sexually harassing female students. I am the reason why Shiho Suzui tried to kill herself!

Everyone watched perplexed at Kamoshida, who walked out of the tribune and fell on his knees, starting to cry. He cried over a few minutes, glancing at everyone.

-I thought of this school as my own castle… There were even students that I sentenced to expulsion, simply because I didn't like them. I will, of course, rescind those… I was the one who spread the criminal record of Amamiya-san, by forcing Mishima-san to spread it over the internet. I was the one who spread the rumors about him. — Kamoshida breathed, trying to keep his composure. — I am truly sorry for putting innocent youths through such horrible acts. I am an arrogant, shallow… and shameful person. — Kamoshida breathes again, trying to keep his calm. — No, I'm worse than that… I will take responsibility and kill myself for it!

Everyone mumbled astounded as Kamoshida bowed in apology. Kobayakawa approached him desperately.

-Mr. Kamoshida! Please get off the stage for now! — The overweight principal ordered.

The teachers desperately tried to call the students back to class, when Ann shouted:

-Don't run, you bastard!

Kamoshida glanced at her.

-Shiho's still alive even after all the things that made her want to die! You have no right to run for this!

-You're right… You're absolutely right… I should be punished under the law and atone for my crimes… — Kamoshida breathed and bowed his head. — I did a horrible thing to Takamaki-san as well. In return for giving Suzui-san a position on the team… I… I tried to force her into having relations.

Everyone commented shocked, looking at Ann. Kamoshida glanced at everyone once again.

-As of today, I will resign from my position as an instructor and turn myself in. Someone, please call the police! — Kamoshida begged desperately to everyone.

-Wow… — Ryuji said, astounded as well.

-He changed… — Ren said, surprised too.

-This morning's assembly is over! Return to your classes immediately! — Ordered one of the teachers.

The students started to mumble over what happened as they did as they had been ordered. After that only Ren, Ryuji, and Ann were in the auditorium/gymnasium.

-His heart really did change… — Ann said.

-Seems like it. — Ryuji confirmed. — But was this really for the best?

"And yet, was that fair?" Ren thought.

-We'll only know in the future. — Ren said thoughtfully. — As for the time being, I'd believe it was for the best.

-Yeah… it's gotta be. — Ryuji said. — But things're happenin' way too fast…

-I've to agree. We were better… Mishima-san!

Mishima and two female students come in their direction, with their heads down.

-Huh…? What the…? — Ryuji said surprised as well.

-Takamaki-san… I'm sorry! — Mishima said bowing to Ann.

-Huh?

-We all knew… but we pretended we didn't.

-Takamaki-san, I had you all wrong… I'm sorry that I spread rumors about you! — A tall female student said.

-I didn't know at all. Kamoshida was forcefully pushing himself on you… it must've been so hard for you! — The other female student said.

-I'm sure there's a ton of people who want to apologize to you. We're so sorry! — The tall student said.

-No, it's okay. The same goes for me too… Besides, it's all in the past now.

-Hey, you there! Return to the class at once! — A teacher ordered coming to their direction.

-W-Well, see you later then…

The two female students went away and Mishima turned to Ren.

-I can't apologize enough for what I did to you.

-It's okay, it's all water under the bridge, Mishima. And besides, it wasn't your fault in the first place. — Ren assured.

-…I swear I'll make it up to you someday.

-I know you will find a way. — Ren said with an assuring smile and Mishima went away.

-Looks like Kamoshida ain't the only one that had a change of heart. — Ryuji said surprised.

-Perhaps everyone was chained by him. They finally could be free. — Ren said.

-Man, I'm glad for you. Looks like those weird rumors are gonna go away. — Ryuji said to Ann.

-At least there's that… — Ren said.

-My thing doesn't really matter. We made Kamoshida apologize about Shiho… That's more than enough for me.

-You should hurry and tell her about it then. — Ryuji said.

-…Yeah. — Ann said, exiting the gymnasium. Ren looked at Ryuji.

-I'm proud of you.

-For what…? — Ryuji asked, confused.

-For you being on Ann's side. You truly are her friend.

Ryuji scratched the back of his head.

-Well, I know her, so…

Ren only gave a smile.

-Yeah… It starts with a friendship…

-Hey!

Ren gave a small laugh and exited the gymnasium.

-Let's go, we need to go to class.

Shujin Academy. Rooftop.

After School.

-I totally freaked out… He really did have a change of heart… — Ryuji commented.

-Yeah… I was surprised everything went well too. — Ren said

-And we were lucky his mind didn't get messed up either! This was an A+ job!

-I totally agree with you.

-Does this mean that they won't have a mental shutdown even if their Palace disappears? — Morgana asked himself.

-It seems like it. Actually, the best is to convince the Shadow to change his ways, so when the Palace disappears that will not kill him in the process. — Ren said.

-I see… So we need to persuade the Shadow without killing it, and then send it back to its real self.

-Exactly, and with that our targets won't undergo a cognitive collapse if we do that. — Ren completed. Morgana laughed.

-I like that.

-So, we can get 'em to confess with no bad stuff? Hey! That works for me!

-Do you have to be so loud? — Ann asked coming in Ryuji's direction.

-I agree with Ann. We need to be discrete. — Ren said.

-Don't worry about it! — Ryuji's mood changed, becoming serious. — So… How'd it go? With Shiho, I mean…

-She's regained consciousness! — Ann said happily.

-Really!? — Ren exclaimed.

-For real!? — Ryuji exclaimed.

Ann crouched and started to cry.

-Ann! — Ryuji exclaimed.

-It was only for a little bit, but I got to talk to her! I was able to tell her with Mrs. Suzui that Kamoshida admitted what he did, and what you did Ren.

Ren looked at Ryuji and he stood on Ann's side.

-Feelin' better? — He asked.

-Yes… Shiho, she… she told me she was sorry… Looks like she really found out I was flirting with Kamoshida for her sake… And here I was, wanting to apologize to her…

-Shhh, it's okay… It wasn't your fault. — Ryuji said.

-Ryuji's right. Kamoshida's at fault for all this. — Morgana said with a firm tone.

-I know…

-And what will happen to Shiho when she recovers? — Ren asked.

-Shiho's mom is thinking of transferring her to another school after she recovers. The whole sexual harassment and the suicide attempt… people will label with that.

-I hate to say that, but I'd agree with Mrs. Ayumi. For Shiho's sake, I do believe that was for her best. — Ren said toying with a lock of his hair.

-Yeah, I know. Sounded like Shiho had the same idea too.

-It's gonna get lonely… — Ryuji commented.

-But, I think it's for the best… I'm sure it'll be hard if she stays here. — Ann said.

-She's alive. You can see her anytime.

-I know… I need to change too.

-That aside, I was surprised you could hold yourself back against Kamoshida's Shadow.

-It wasn't like that… I just wanted Kamoshida to apologize. — Ann said.

-You're so kind, Lady Ann. — Morgana said.

-No matter how much a shitting bag he was, finishing him off woulda left a bad aftertaste, huh? — Ryuji said.

-Huh? That's not it. I think revenge is better served if I made them repent.

-Being better than him is not doing the same as him… As someone had said: There are fates worse than death. — Ren said.

-Yes. Realizing what he's done, he'll grovel for forgiveness the rest of his life, you know? As Ren said: There are fates worse than death. That's what I just believe.

-Holy shit… — Ryuji exclaimed.

-But it's true. — Ren said.

-A-Anyways, that's all settled… But you know, there was only one thing I was wonderin' about the castle.

-What it is, Ryuji? — Ren asked.

-Why was Kamoshida the only one who had the Metaverse thing?

-It isn't limited to him. — Morgana said. — It's something anyone could have if their heart became warped from their desires.

-Anyone… — Ann said in disbelief.

-Wanna check it out? — Morgana asked.

-N-Not right now. We better lay down for a while. People are still gonna be talkin' about Kamoshida.

-I agree with Ryuji. — Ren said. — For now, let's laying down and wait for things to calm down.

-Then again, it's totally, if not almost impossible for someone to find out what we did at his Palace.

-True, but then again, it's totally impossible for someone to find out what we did at his Palace. — Ryuji said.

-Yeah, about that…

-What's wrong Ann? — Ren asked.

-Weird rumors about you guys are already going around.

-What type of rumors?

-Stuff like, you got together and threatened Kamoshida with some close to physical violence… Some of them say about how you threatened Kamoshida by you own, Ren.

-The hell!? — Ryuji yelled and Ren waved his hand to calm him down.

-People aren't going to easily believe that phantom thieves really exist. The calling card's being treat as a prank by someone who knew what Kamoshida was doing. — Ann explained.

-We're the ones who did it, and I still don't completely believe it myself. — Ryuji said.

-So, why not keep like that?

-What? — Both Ann and Ryuji asked.

-For now, it's better to treat this case as it is. — Ren said calmly. — We can't be sure what'll happen if the phantom thieves start to appear on the map.

-Now you mentioned it… Your mentors know about us.

-Agreed. 'Sides, I wanna know what're you were talkin' about your mentors. After all, they can hear Morgana, right?

-Correct. Well, to make a long story short, as I said, they are Persona-users too. Actually…

Ren explained all he heard from his mentors, except the Velvet Room. After that, both Ryuji and Ann looked at him surprised.

-So, you're saying they…

-They dealt with the same thing before. Actually, probably that happened before with other people.

-I see…

-It was a shock for me too as well. — Morgana said. — To imagine that happened to them… It's surprising.

-Yeah. And what they said 'bout us? — Ryuji said

-They'll not intervene. They said it's our choice. — Ren replied. — For now, let's things settle down. It's the better thing for us.

-I agree. Let's wait for the time being.

-Now, what'd we do with that medal? — Ren asked pointing at the medal.

-Let's check how much this medal can be sold for. It'd be better if we pawned it off ASAP.

-We'll sell the medal…? I don't think that's a good idea. — Ren said. — But seeing we don't have a use for it…

-Ohh, got a hit! — Ryuji said happily finding a result, then his eyes widened as he saw the prize. — Wait, thirty thousand yen!? That's all a gold medal's worth!?

-Considering the medal is in fact made of pure gold. — Ren said making some research as well. — It's not much, but at least it's a good amount for an Olympic Medal.

-Hey, Ryuji… — Ann asked Ryuji with a sweet voice. — Remember that time in middle school? I lent you some money.

-There's no way I borrowed thirty thousand yen from you! — Ryuji exclaimed.

-Wouldn't it be around that much with compounded interest? — Ann argued.

Ren snickered, seeing both blondes arguing.

-I'd agree with Ann. — Ren said provoking.

-Interest my ass!

-I'm not saying that I'm taking all of it. I mean, it's your fault for not paying me back all these years! It's just common sense.

-She's right… — Ren said.

-Dammit. — Ryuji said.

-Well, since we decided what do to with the medal, let's wait. It's the better thing we do. — Ren said. — I will keep investigating. I will update you two about the situation.

-I agree on laying low and keeping an eye on the situation. However, you dragged me into this. It would be nonsense not to celebrate a successful mission. — Morgana said.

-Why not?

-I guess we can blow this dirty money on something fun. — Ryuji said excitedly.

-Discursions among phantom thieves are better taking place over luxurious food. How about it? — Morgana asked.

-Hey, wait… Nah, I guess it's fine. There's somewhere I want to go then. — Ann said.

-Where's that? — Ryuji asked

-It's a place Shiho and I have been waiting to go for a while.

-I owe you money, so I can't complain. You good with that?

-Fine by me. I'd believe it's the best we can do with the money. — Ren replied.

-I'll leave it to your discretion as well, Lady Ann. — Morgana said.

-I'll call and check the prices later then. — Ann said.

-When should we go? Wanna do it soon, like tomorrow? — Ryuji asked.

-Why don't we go on the last day of the holidays? It'll help to energize us when school life starts up again the day after. — Ann replied.

-Then… the 5th, on Children's Day. — Ryuji said.

-So, who's going to sell this?

-I do that. I know a place that can buy anything we sell, right Morgana?

-Right. We know a store that'll buy anything. So, leave it to us.

-Okay, I'll leave that to you guys. — Ann said happily.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

Is that gold medal real? When did it get inside his Palace? — Ann messaged.

That one's a fake. The real one is in Kamoshida's possession. — Ren replied.

What…? You're telling me Kamoshida's still got the medal? — Ryuji asked confused.

Yes. At least the original medal. — Ren explained.

Who cares? What matters is that we changed his heart. And anyway, if we had taken the real thing, that'd be stealing! — Ann said. — But what's the difference… Whatever, it's almost the same thing… Although I don't think he'll need that medal anymore. I don't think he'll be proud of that medal anymore regardless.

I agree. I don't think he'll need that medal anymore. That is if the police didn't confiscate the medal as evidence. — Ren replied.

You let go of stuff pretty easily, huh? Wanna forget about my debt? — Ryuji asked.

That's different. Five hundred yen is a lot of money for a middle schooler, you know. Do you even still have that dolphin anyway?

Ren snickered.

"All of that because of five hundred yen? Just wow." Ren thought as he message.

Dolphin? — Ren texted.

Stop digging that up. — Ryuji replied.

Back in middle school, we went on a field trip to the aquarium. But Ryuji had to spend all his money on a souvenir, so I lent him some for his train fare. — Ann replied.

I said I was sorry… That was for my mom. — Ryuji said.

Well, I guess I can call it even after all we've been through. — Ann said.

Thank you. Anyways we don't gotta worry about seeling that medal off if it's a fake! End of the story.

Still, it's made of pure gold. The only difference it's the origin of the medal. We can sell without any problems.

-Kamoshida will never be proud of that once-in-a-lifetime gold medal ever again. — Morgana said, jumping out of the bag.

-I'd agree. That is punishment is worse than death itself. He'll reflect on his actions in jail.

-I'd agree.

Sojiro went upstairs and looked at Ren.

-Starting tomorrow, you'll have a lot of free time, huh? Must be nice… For me, it just means more customers and even more work. — Sojiro said. — By the way, a package came in for you. Can't imagine what you brought.

Ren checked the parcel and took several proteins inside the box.

-It's the protein I've ordered off the TV. — Ren said. — Thank you for keeping an eye on it for me.

-It was nothing.

Ren looked at Sojiro and helped him in the café After that he went to sleep.

May, 3. Tuesday.

Café Leblanc.

Early Morning.

Ren after changed his clothes, looked at the medal. Morgana stared at him.

-Come on we're going to pawn that medal today.

-Hey, can you hear me, right? You don't have any plans, do you? If not come help me out, instead of sleeping your life away.

-We do owe it to him… We'll just have to wait.

-Better hurry down and help him out. — Ren said changing his clothes.

Ren went downstairs and promptly helped Sojiro with the café, washing the dishes and helping to make the coffee.

-Heh, sorry. I kinda pressured you into doing this.

Ren smirked.

-It's okay. I don't have plans after all.

-And now to our next topic… Fall from Grace: the story of a dishonored Olympic medalist. Just recently, a high school coach confessed at an assembly that he had been repeatedly abusing his students. Given his prior Olympic achievements, this has caused a stir. What caused this habitual offender to suddenly confess these heinous crimes to his entire school? Perhaps was the pressure caused by the defense attorney Ren Amamiya, who proved his crimes in court, in an attempt of proving his own innocence. The police are hoping that the upcoming interrogations will bring light to this question.

-Hm? Isn't this your PE Teacher you sent to jail? — Sojiro questioned and Ren nodded in affirmation.

-My friend would come back from practice with bruises all the time… It was scary, but I'm relieved that the abuse is finally gone to an end now. — A student said.

-He would touch me and stuff all the time… — A female student declared. — I'm glad I don't have to deal with that sexual harassment anymore.

-There were always rumors, sure. Not many people believed them though. Like… I totally shock they were actually true. At least now I can go to school without worrying.

-The defense attorney, Ren Amamiya had proven his guilt. The defense attorney, with the other two students, has been false accused of the crimes, but it has been proven these allegations have been made by the former coach of the high school.

-Looks like someone's famous. — Sojiro commented.

-I don't want to be famous. I was only doing my job. — Ren replied.

-Still, things might be getting turbulent at school, but you need to just your head down, alright?

-Alright. I wasn't planning on being famous anyway.

-…More importantly, keep those hands moving. I've some more stuff I need you to do.

Ren nodded his head in agreement and finished his job. After several hours working at Leblanc, went upstairs and changed his clothes.

-The chief really worked us hard…

-Worked me hard. You were only lay down in the attic, sleeping. — Ren corrected.

Ren heard his phone rang and he saw he received a message from Ryuji.

Did you see!? It was on the news! No way the school's gonna play dumb after that.

I saw it too. Shiho's name didn't come up, right? — Ann asked.

No, but my name comes up. — Ren replied. — I'm worried about that.

Yeah, dude. I'd bet they keep wanted Suzui part quiet to put yours in the spotlight.

True. — Ren replied.

I'm so glad — Ann texted.

It's finally over then. — Ryuji texted. — All we gotta do is stuff our faces and put this Kamoshida crap behind us… I'm totally looking to this celebration party.

I'll try to not let you guys down! — Ann texted

I'm looking forward as well. — Ren texted.

-All right, we need to go to sell this medal tomorrow. — Morgana said.

-I know. I'll tell Sojiro I have plans. Actually, I need to check something as well. — Ren said. — I'll go study now.

-Okay. Just make sure you're not going to sleep too late.

May, 4. Wednesday.

Café Leblanc.

Early Morning.

-Make sure to do the dishes.

-I'll do it when I come back. I do need to solve something first. — Ren explained calmly.

-Don't get cocky with me.

-Sorry, but I really need to do that. — Ren said.

-Are you worried about the news…? — Sojiro asked

-Kind of. I need to talk with my mentors about that.

-Can't you do that by phone?

Sae went inside the Leblanc and Ren was surprised by her presence.

-Welcome.

-Am I interrupting something? — She asked.

-Not at all. — Sojiro replied.

-Fancy meeting you here, Mr. Amamiya. — Sae said.

-Did you know her? — Sojiro asked.

-She was the prosecutor of my case. — Ren replied.

-I see…

-Yeah, fancy to meet you here too, Prosecutor Niijima. — Ren said. — Are you here perhaps here for a joe of coffee?

-Yes. What'd you recommend? — Sae asked.

-The house blend. I'd think you will like it.

-I see…

-The cause of the runaway-train incident in the subway the other day still has not been found.

That news caught the attention of the three, who turned their heads to the TV.

-Police are hurrying to solve the matter as it may be related to the rise in psychotic breakdown incidents.

-Oh, is that the thing everyone's been talking about? — Sojiro asked.

-Yes. I heard there had been some incidents in Los Angeles. — Ren explained.

-Doesn't it make you curious? — Sae asked Sojiro. — People who were living their normal lives suddenly went mad or deranged out of the blue. Not to mention that it's happening one after another… Could they really be coincidental?

-I've my doubt too… — Ren replied.

-Hm… Leaving that aside. What'll you have?

Sae stood silent for a brief moment before answer:

-Perhaps I'll follow the suggestion of Mr. Amamiya. I'll have the house blend, please. — Then Sae turned in Ren's direction. — What are you here, Mr. Amamiya? Are you perhaps a part-timer? I'm surprised this place can afford one.

-Uhh, no, not exactly… — Sojiro answered.

-He's my guardian. I help him with the shop. — Ren explained.

-I see… So, do you attend Shujin, right? — Ren nodded his head. — Someone I know goes there as well.

-I heard is some relative of yours.

-Correct. I've heard that things are rough right now. Since Kamoshida public confessed his crimes. It was he was a completely different person. And it happened "all of sudden" one day… Can a person's mental state change so easily? What are your thoughts, Mr. Amamiya?

-I've to agree it's odd, but we never know what happens nowadays. Perhaps he had a change of heart after realizing all he had done.

-Perhaps. Is my drinking ready yet? — She asked Sojiro.

-…Coming right up. As for you, the dishes are yours after you come back.

-Okay.

-Mr. Amamiya, where are you going? — Sae asked.

-I'm going to Shibuya. I need to talk with my mentors. Oh, Chief Nick was happy to hear about you.

-Send a hello to me.

-I will.

Shibuya District. Untouchable.

Daytime.

Ren was in Shibuya Central Street, and before he went to the Untouchable, he saw two men chattering with each other. Avoiding any eye contact, he went into the shop and stared at the shopkeeper. He stopped to read his gun magazine and looked at Ren.

-…Huh? You again? What do you want? — He asked rudely.

-I want to sell you something. Here. — Ren said putting the gold medal on the bench.

-Huh? A gold medal? Why do you have this? — The shopkeeper asked. — We don't buy any fake or stolen goods kid.

-That's the real deal, I can assure you. And that was given to me, so you don't need to worry about this being a stolen thing.

-Hold on a sec. Are you… Lemme see it.

The shopkeeper analyzed the medal and just nodded.

-I'm just… not gonna ask where you got this. How's 10,000 yens sounds for it though?

-50,000 yen.

-I need to sell it somehow. 20.000 yen.

-45,000 yen. — Ren said flatly.

-30,000 yen, and nothing more.

-Works for me. 30,000 yen. — Ren said extending his hand and the shopkeeper gave him a handshake.

-Hmph. 30,000 it is, then. You're a tough kid. — He said giving Ren the amount of money. With a smile. — It's almost time… Here, take this with you. — He gave to Ren a paper bag. — It's thanks for sellin' me that medal.

-It was nothing.

-But, uh… just best not to open it. Just bring it with you next time you come back.

-Okay… You better not screw with me. — Ren said with a severe tone.

-Glad you're so quickly to understand, and relax, it's nothing illegal.

Then the two men who were outside the store went inside, both with badges in their hands.

-Munehisa Iwai, yes? There are some matters we'd like to discuss with you today. — One of the cops said.

-…Go, kid. — Iwai whispered, and Ren nodded.

-Excuse me, officer. — Ren said, passing by.

-Do you know why we're here? — Asked the officer.

-I dunno, lookin' for evidence? You tell me, Mr. Detective.

"He's suspicious, and Chief Nick and Chief Miles kinda know that guy… Iwai… What they up to…?"

-Watch your attitude. —Said the cop in the black suit.

-Well, you guys gonna search me? Go on, do what you gotta do.

-…What was that?

Iwai gave a wry smile.

-An upstandin' citizen's supposed to cooperate with the cops, right?

-Hey, you sure that lead was legitimate?

-I could've sworn it was…

-Can you two hurry it up? — Iwai asked. — I got a business to run here.

-You bastard… You here!

Ren stopped and turn at the detective in the black suit.

-Yes, officer? — Ren asked.

-What's in the bag, huh? Show me!

-The kid's just a regular ol' customer. You can check the tapes if that'll convince you. They'll show everything that's gone down here today. — Iwai said calmly.

"I don't want to be here when these guys seeing the footage of me with the gold medal, although it shouldn't be a problem. Still, I should leave."

-I won't let you get away that easy! Show us what's in the bag!

Ren sighed and gave a stern look.

-Officer, do you have a warrant? — He asked.

-What?

-If don't you simply can't force me to do that. — Ren explained.

-What!? I said it to show me! — The vulgar detective yelled.

-Officer! I'd suggest for you to behave yourself, unless if you want me to fill a harassment charge against you.

The vulgar detective became pale after hear that.

-Do you have the tapes of that moment, right, Mr. Iwai? — Ren asked.

-I'd have. It's all recorded here. — Iwai said with a wide grin.

-You…

-Hey, this kid has a point. You simply can't do that. Besides you're talking to a kid, remember? — The other detective said. — Besides, he's not the one we're here to see.

-Urgh…

-That's right, Mr. Detective. Mayne next time try not harassin' my customers, see how that goes. — Iwai said. — Safe trip home, kid.

-Thanks.

Ren exited the shop and took went to the end of the alleyway, taking a good looking at the bag.

-What were those detectives doing there?

-Maybe something related to this. Better see what's this before we went into trouble.

-Let's open it! — Morgana exclaimed.

Ren nodded his head and he opens the bag, and both were surprised to see the contends inside of the bag.

-A real gun!? — Morgana exclaimed surprised.

-No, pay attention. It's a model gun, extremely modified to look like a real weapon. — Ren noted. — Damn, that looks like a real deal…

-It's incredible though! Miles ahead of the one Ryuji had!

-Perhaps it was him who made it… — Ren said closing the bag.

-Hey, Ren, I just had a great idea… We should totally buy this gun from him later! — Morgana said and Ren looked at him. — I mean, it's perfect. Something like this real-looking would work wonders in the Metaverse.

-Do you want me to buy that? Why not? Actually, I do need to talk with Chief Nick and Chief Miles about that.

-Do you think…

-I'm sure they know. — Ren affirmed. — Anyway, I'll bring it back next time I come here. I should try to strike a deal with him when I return.

-That's the spirit! — Morgana said happily. — You really should try that!

-Well, let's go to the hotel. — Ren said putting the paper bag inside his handbag. — We'll need to have a talk with them. Let's see… the hotel they're staying in is nearby… Let's go.

Ren walked through Shibuya and reached the hotel. After some time, he went to the thirty floor, and walked to room 3027. Knocking on the door, he waited for the answer and the door opened, revealing Phoenix Wright on the other side and a teenager with him.

-Chief Nick.

-Ren.

-May I come in?

-Always.

Ren comes in and he has hugged by the girl, making him laugh.

-Hi Trucy! No time, no see.

-Hi Ren! — Trucy chippered happily. — I'm glad I could see you.

-Me too. Hey, I want you to meet someone. — Ren took Morgana from his bag. — That's Morgana. He's my cat.

-How cute! He's your cat?

-Yes. I adopted him. Did you like it?

-I love it. So, how's your life here in Tokyo? — The magician asked.

-Not bad. Actually is quite the usual.

Trucy puffed her cheeks in annoyance.

-Do you at least make friends? — She asked.

-Yes, I do. I think you'll like them.

-I want to meet them. — She chippered happily.

-And no, you can't make them your assistants.

-Awww. Maybe…

-Morgana included.

-No fair.

Ren laughed.

Well, I do need to talk with Chief Nick now, Trucy. Do you want me to take Morgana with you?

-Yes

Trucy took Morgana and she walked towards the exit.

-Don't use my cat as your assistant, please.

-Okay.

She left the room and Ren showed him the paper bag.

-Iwai gave this to you? — Phoenix asked.

-Someone gave him a hint the police was coming after him. Let me guess, it was someone related to the police gave, right? And I can't shake the feeling you knew it all along, do you? — Ren asked.

-No. It wasn't me. But you didn't come here to talk about that.

-No. Did you saw the news?

-Yes, I do. You became famous.

Ren sighed.

-I don't want to call the attention of the media. I don't need that at this moment.

-I know, but since you defeated the mighty prosecutor Sae Niijima, you made quite the name. I can't do much except gave a threat of file some harassment charges against them. Sorry.

-It's okay. I came here to make sure I'll not be disturbed at the Shujin.

-I'll try with Miles to keep the things down. However, don't expect anything.

-Okay. About that case…

-The psychotic breakdowns and the mental shutdowns incidents. Did Sae comment anything about that?

-She asked me. She also asked about Kamoshida.

-Do you think she suspects? — The Turnabout Terror asked.

-Of us, no. But of the previous incidents, yes. — Ren replied. — Do you have any lead from that case?

-Not yet. — Phoenix said with a serious frown. — Ren do you believe these incidents are related somehow to here?

-I genuinely don't know. I don't have enough proof or any lead yet.

-Yet. Operative word. So, do you have some suspicious?

-I do. I don't know much yet but will find out.

-Okay, I trust you can do this. If you need any help, call us okay?

-Okay. Oh, she sent you a hi.

-Send her a thank you if you see her.

-I will.

Yongen-Jaya District. Café Leblanc.

Evening.

Ren went upstairs, ready to change his clothes and to clean the dishes when he received a call.

-It's Ann.

-Lady Ann? — Morgana asked.

-Yes. Hello Ann. — Ren said answering the call.

-Oh… Hello, it's me. I saw the news about you and Kamoshida. It's getting a lot of coverage…

-How do you feel?

-I'm still not sure about that… The reaction's bigger than I expecting… I guess I'm just… surprised.

-I talked with Chief Nick about that if this makes you relieved. He said he'll do something about it, at to my case.

-Oh, right… the trial. — Ann said. — I don't think we do anything wrong though.

-Neither I. — Ren said.

- I wonder if we helped those people speak up about it…

-I'm sure we did.

-That's pretty amazing, huh? I didn't think we'd be able to do it! And yet and look at us now! This calls for a celebration.

-Well I was sure we're able to do it. And I do agree that calls for a celebration. So, where are we going to meet?

-Let's meet in front of Shibuya Station at noon tomorrow. Don't be late! Oh, and did you pawn off the medal? You didn't forget, right?

-I already did that. — Ren replied.

-All right! You should be really excited about the place I choose, by the way. I'm sure everyone's gonna love it!

-You better don't disappoint me. I've high expectations for the place you arranged for us.

-I'm sure you will like it. Well, see you guys tomorrow.

-See you tomorrow Ann.

Ren ended the call and started to change his outfit.

-Ah, a restaurant of Lady Ann's choosing. Finally, a decent meal! Hey, what do you think we're gonna eat?

-If I have to guess… I guess some barbeque.

-Ooh, I could go for some wagyu beef! It better be Grade-A!

Ren snickered.

-I'm sure it will.

-In any case, I'm surely looking forward to it! Mwehehehehe!

-Yeah. Now let's wash the dishes, as I promised.

May, 5. Thursday.

Shibuya District. Wilton Hotel Buffet.

Buffet Venue.

Daytime.

-Mmmmm… So good! — Ryuji exclaimed happily.

-No wonder why Lady Ann chose this place! — Morgana exclaimed happily as well.

-So delicious! — Ren said satisfied.

-Of course, it's good. This is a famous hotel as well. — Ann said proudly.

-I'd believe Chief Miles is booked here. I need to talk with him later. — Ren said.

-Oh yeah, I heard that the police are coming to interview some people at school.

-I'd hope they don't bother us. — Ren said.

-That's troublesome. — Morgana said.

-Our names are gonna come up for sure. People're spreadin' all sorts of rumors about us and Kamoshida… — Ryuji said with an edge of dejection.

-I'll make sure the police won't going to bother us. Besides, our testimony has been taken by Gumshoe, so I don't believe the police will bother us. The media, however… — Ren said.

-True… I can imagine they running after you.

-Yeah.

-But we got 'em pumped up! I keep hearin' stuff like "The Phantom Thieves really stole his heart!" I think most people doesn't believe it, but some of 'em actually seem grateful. — Ryuji said.

-Still, we need to be careful. Prosecutor Niijima is suspecting that is related to the psychotic breakdowns incidents are happening back then. — Ren said seriously.

-'Bout that, does she suspect about us?

-No. Still, we need to be careful.

-You're right. By the way, check this.

Ryuji took his phone and accessed the internet, going into a site. After found the page he showed it to Ren, Ann, and Morgana.

-The Phantom Aficionado Website? — Ann asked surprised and she started to read. — "Well done, Phantom Thieves."… "Now I can keep going too."… "Thank you for giving us hope."…

-Pretty cool, huh? — Ryuji said.

-It is. There are several messages… Look at that… — Ren said surprised.

-I was just desperate to deal with my own problems, but seeing people saying all of that feels… strange.

-Yeah…

-It's nice to see that, but we need to be careful.

-Why'd you be so concerned about that? It wasn't like they'll find us.

-Better safe than sorry. — Ren said. — But it's nice he helped them though.

-Hey… What do we do now? — Ryuji asked.

-We eat. We still good on time? — Ren asked, went back to eat his dessert.

-Huh!? — Ryuji asked confused, then he stood astounded up as he realized what Ren meant. — Oh crap! You're totally right! We only got an hour to eat!

-Just fifty minutes left! — Ann exclaimed astounded as well checking the time.

-I'm not gonna finish all these beef dishes at this pace! — Ryuji said.

-And I need to eat my way through the entire dessert menu! — Ann said stood up and walking to the buffet.

-Look after our stuff! — Ryuji said to Ren and Morgana, pointing at the food. — We'll snag somethin' for you guys too, don't worry.

Five minutes later, Ann and Ryuji came back to the table with several plates full of food. After putting the food over the desk, they started back to eat.

-Aw man, it melts in my mouth! — Ryuji exclaimed.

-Seriously!? Only meat? — Morgana exclaimed surprised, seeing the plates Ryuji brought.

-Now, where should I start? — Ann asked.

-And she's all about the cake. — Morgana said slightly uncomfortable with Ann eating a giant slice of cake. Ren chuckled.

-Well, I do you expect? — Ren asked.

-So happy! — Ann exclaimed.

-Hey. Calories. — Ryuji teased.

-Shuddup! — Ann said with an edge of annoyance. — How much do you think one of these costs!? I'll never get the chance to do this again! — Ann murmured happily. — The Wilton Hotel cake buffet… I'd heard rumors, but I never thought it'd be so amazing!

-And where our share? — Morgana asked.

-Yes, We keep an eye on you guys, so?

-I didn't really know what'd you want, so I just grabbed you some beans?

-Really? — Ren and Morgana said in disbelief. — Beans?

-There were some pretty bizarre things there too, so we got you a variety of those. Fried bananas, preserved eggs, and… some kind of beans!

-M-More beans!? — Morgana asked astounded.

-Do you guys… — Ren started.

-We put so much on the plate that it got all mixed up, but it should probably still taste good. — Ann said as she enjoyed her cake.

-This is just plain grotesque. — Morgana said.

-I'd agree. I don't want to eat this, and clearly, we not going to eat this. — Ren said.

-Let's go, Ren. Those two just don't know what fine dinner truly means! We'll show them!

-Let's. I don't want to eat beans, I do pay for the buffet and I'll eat the meals disposable for me! — Ren said with an edge of annoyance. — Morgana, get in the bag!

-That's reassuring!

-Watch your things while we're out! Please wait for us, I don't want to find this table empty.

-Ahhh, it's like a melty explosion in my mouth…

-Ohh, this part's cream cheese!

-They're not even listening… — Morgana said disappointed.

-Let's go. I'd hope they notice our disappearance.

Ren stood up and pick up his plate. After walking for a while he went to one part of the buffet where is displayed.

-Hmmm! Fish… — He commented choosing what fish he will put on his plate.

-I'd prefer it raw, but grilled is great too! — Morgana commented.

-Yeah.

-Have you heard, my dear? The news about Kamoshida fellow was absolutely dreadful.

-Ah right. That teacher at Shujin Academy was caught doing such indecent acts. Shameful, really.

Ren stopped to put fish on his plate and started to listen to the conversation of the two women.

-And they still haven't managed to solve those horrible psychotic breakdowns episodes, have they? I wish they wouldn't let themselves be distracted by a tawdry scandal.

-Perhaps it's a sign of how peaceful our country this country. I honestly pity those poor Shujin students though.

-It seems Kamoshida incident is the talk of the town… — Ren commented in a whisper.

-It seems like it. — Morgana said.

The women noticed Ren and he acted naturally, putting a certain amount of fish on his plate, avoiding eye contact.

-Tsk, how did a child like this end up here? — One of the women asked. — I certainly hope he didn't bring friends. I prefer my meals to remain hooligan-free, thank you very much. Comee on, let's go

Ren sighed mentally and walked away.

-What's so bad about kids coming to enjoy a buffet? — Morgana asked. — I wonder how the other people here are reacting to the news…

-They are just stupid enough, ignore them. — Ren whispered. — Let's see how other people are reacting to the news. I'd believe it's investigation time.

-That's the spirit! Let's go.

Going to another part of the buffet venue, Ren went to the desserts, when a fountain of different types of chocolate was displayed.

-Up close, it looks even bigger and more delicious! This giant, sweet—

Ren made a sign to Morgana stod quiet, discretely pointing towards two people talking.

-…Ah, sorry. I got distracted.

Ren went a little bit closer, paying attention to their conversation.

-News travels quick. It's all over the internet now. You know, the story of how Kamoshida got his ass kicked by some world-reforming heroes… — Said the man.

-It doesn't sound like a serious story to me. Some of the details are pretty far-fetched… Unlike the story of that young defense attorney though. — A woman said.

-I've heard about it. It's all over the news. He's kind of a prodigy or something?

-It seems like it. I heard he has two famous lawyers as his mentors. Still, that's more plausible than that story of thieves or something.

-Don't worry about it. We just have to do what they tell us to do. It's all rumors made by school kids, anyway. If it's gripping news, who cares if it's not true?

-So, they don't believe themselves, but they're making up making up stories to make the Phantom Thieves seem real. And they're doing in front in the actual Phantom Thieves! — Morgana commented.

-The media sometimes only cares to sell a story, not to tell the facts. Besides rumors are more interesting than the facts, wouldn't you agree? — Ren said putting food on his plate.

-Hm?

-What's wrong?

-Ah, nothing. I thought some weird kid was looking at us, that's all. Why don't we go? It's almost time for the meeting.

-Well, that was rude. Did you hear him? He said you were weird. — Morgana said.

Ren shrugged and keep walking to another table full of meat. He silently approached another two men who were distracted chattering.

-Meat! No, I'm not Ryuji, but a meal is not the same if you don't have any—

-Focus. — Ren whispered, and Morgana stood quiet.

-…When you look at it, he's just an ex-athlete who overestimated himself. — The man said. — He should have accepted his lot in life and quietly done his job as a teacher.

-It's not even an incident we can take seriously. The whole story is pretty ridiculous. On the other hand that young attorney seems the real deal. We should probably look into it, but we could also just let the low-ranking scrubs handle it. — The other man said.

-They're investigating Kamoshida… — Ren said.

-But it seems they don't very enthusiastic about that though. — Morgana said.

-Which is good for us for now. We need to stay under the radar or we'll be screw. — Ren said putting a slice of meat on his plate.

-Hm? He's gonna be arriving soon. We don't want to keep him waiting, so we better get going too.

-What is he gonna discuss with the higher-ups? Well, I'm sure it's more importantly than lunch.

The men's left the table and Ren discretely glanced at them.

-They were dressed quite well, but they still looked pretty shady to me… Ren?

-Maybe… Nothing. Let's grab some rice.

Ren went to the rice table and put slowly a portion, listening to the conversation of a girl and an older man.

-So, the ratings for the news were really that good? — The girl asked and the man nodded in affirmation. — It was because it was about that teacher who harassed his student, huh? Was it Kamoshida?

-It's all about how you frame it. You've got to cater the idiotic public. Rating go up when you show them crude, sensational news, and made it easy for them to understand.

-How can they be so insensitive? A student almost killed herself because of that Kamoshida… — Morgana commented sadly.

-They just care about sell the news. They don't care if there are victims or not. That's the real world for you sometimes. — Ren replied finishing to put the portion of rice.

-By the way, do you think these "sudden changes of heart" might be real?

-Well, that's—Hm?

Ren disguised putting another portion of rice.

-So because he had a sudden change of heart, he just confessed to all his crimes?

-Hahaha, who knows? I bet it was that lawyer's pressure though. Sorry, but it's time. I had to go. I'll call you again after the meeting.

The man and the girl left and Ren looked at his plate.

"Can I eat all of this…?"

-A sudden change of heart, huh? I suppose I can't blame him for seeing it that way. — Morgana commented disappointed.

-Can you blame them? But I'm worried about my situation. News is spreading fast among people, as far we had listened. But it's shocking to see how cruel some adults can be.

-True, it's shocking to see so many of adults here don't seem to be nice people. — Morgana commented.

-True… But that's our sad reality, my friend. Some people can be cruel sometimes. — Ren said. — As we've heard, almost none of them were interested in Kamoshida.

-True… Most of them aren't very interested in the news about him… Well, now we've got a nice variety of food on our plates, let's head back to the others.

-Yeah, let's.

Ren head back with Morgana to their table and Ren started to eat.

-We're back. — Ren said.

-…Ohh, you brought a ton back. — Ryuji commented, then he asked: — Whaddya think about comin' up against such ritzy food?

-I just want to eat some expensive food. Is not every single day we had the opportunity to eat such a fine meal. — Ren replied, giving some to Morgana.

-I was thinkin' that too, but take a bite. Usin' better ingredients make stuff tastes way different!

-Look at you, acting like you have a refined palate all of a sudden… — Morgana commented.

-Don't you think you're eatin' too much, Mona? — Ryuji asked worriedly.

-There's no… knowing when… we'll get… to come here… again. — Morgana said chewing a giant piece of fish.

-Gross. — Ren said before eating a slice of meat.

-Sure, but you guys brought back loads of food… It'd be a shame to let it all go to waste. — Ann commented. — Why don't you help them out, Ryuji?

-We should both help. — Ryuji noted as Ren eat another portion of his food.

-Oh, me? I'm waaaaay too stuffed! I couldn't possibly help!

-Yeah, stuffin' your face with cake… — Ryuji said with an edge of disappointment. — Whatever. Let's deal with this ourselves.

-Let's! — Ren and Morgana said determinately.

After several minutes of eating, Ren saw with dismay the plate which the amount of food on it.

-No matter how much we eat, the amount of food stays the same… — Ren said.

-There's still more? — Morgana asked.

-Yes… — Ren said with dismay.

-Don't give up! Let's keep at it! — Ryuji tried to cheer them up to continue.

-Let's! — Ren said eating a slice of the whipped cream.

After more several minutes they managed to eat all the food on the plate. Ren looked at all the dishes over the table with some difficulty, trying to not puke it up.

-W-We did it… — Morgana said.

-I feel… so full… — Ren said.

-Ye-Oh yeah… This is a victory… for all of us… — Ryuji said. — You still good?

-That was a breeze… — Ren said with a confident smile.

-Is your stomach… the size of a freakin' Palace…? — Ryuji asked and Ren laughed.

-You say that… because you haven't met… Chief Nick… assistant… She's a black hole… That was what he told me…

-So you don't… know her…?

-No… At least not… yet…

-Good job, you guys! How about one more dish to cleanse your palates? — Ann asked proudly. — I recommend the seasonal tart! The grapefruit has both alluring sweetness and a tangy sourness!

-Stop! I don't wanna hear about your sour stuff… — Ryuji replied then he burped. — This isn't good. I gotta go to the bathroom…

-M-Me too… Please… Carry me gently… — Morgana said.

-I… need to go… too… — Ren said.

-My, look at the table… — A woman comments, looking at their table.

The trio glanced at them.

-Come now, pay them no attention. I'm sure they must not normally have the chance to eat such exquisite food.

-I can only imagine what their parents must be like.

-What was that!? — Ryuji yelled.

-Excuse but that was rude. — Ren said, but the couple didn't pay attention and left the venue. Ryuji burped again.

-We don't get time for that. C'mon, let's go…

Leaving the table, they went towards the bathrooms, only to find they closed. Going to another floor, they managed to go to the bathroom there, and after alleviating themselves, they went back to the elevator and Ren heard Morgana whining.

-Ugh… I'm stuffed. — The supernatural cat said.

-I totally panicked when I saw the "Closed for Cleaning" sign at the bathrooms…

-Ugh… I'd never… ever do that again… — Ren said.

-You were talking big about eating until you puked, but you really did puke… Are you some kind of moron…? — Morgana asked.

-I should ask you the same thing, Morgana. — Ren said with an edge of annoyance.

-Yeah. You talked big too. — Ryuji said crossing his arms. — Whatever. What was that restaurant floor? — He asked.

-I'd believe it was a few floors below. — Ren said as Ryuji pushed the button to call the elevator. Then a few men bumped on them, pushing them away. A distinguished man with glasses called Ren's attention, making him take a step back.

-What the— — Ryuji yelped.

-There's still no update on that case? — The distinguished man asked.

-N-Not yet…

"It can be…" Ren thought as he saw the man in shock.

-Excuse me, but why are you so involved? It's not something you should be concerned with…

-I don't care about your opinion, you incompetent buffoon! When I say pick up the pace, you do it!

-Hey, you're cuttin' in line! — Ryuji yelled.

-Sorry, we're in a hurry.

-Oh, I'm sorry. So you can butt in front of other people if you're a hurry.

Ren grabbed Ryuji by his arm and called another elevator, and the distinguished man looked at both.

-It seems the customer base has changed since I has here last. Have they started a daycare? — The distinguished man provoked.

-What?

-Hey. It's not worthy.

-What…?

-It's not worthy. — Ren said flattery, discreetly glancing at the distinguished man.

-Sir, we don't have time for this.

-I know. Don't bother with them.

The elevator opened and the distinguished man went inside with his subordinates.

-Hey…

-Ryuji. Enough.

-But he can't do that…

-I know.

Ryuji noticed Ren's tone of voice and glanced at him worriedly.

-Are you okay…?

-…I'm okay. — Ren said after a brief moment of silence.

"It's him… It can't be, but it's him…"

-The hell was with that bossy guy? — Ryuji asked.

-Shouldn't we head it down? — Morgana asked.

-Yeah, but… That dick really pissed me off. He wasn't even hidin' the fact that he looks down to everyone! — Ryuji said angrily.

-Don't lose your temper over this. — Morgana said.

-I just can't forgive shitty adults like that.

"Why he's here? Does he suspect about us?"

-Ren?

-I'm okay. Don't worry about me — Ren replied coldly.

-That's just gonna make me worry more, y'know.

-Sorry… I thought I was someone familiar, that's all. — Ren replied and gave a reassuring smile.

-I bet it's because he rarely eats well. I'm always stuck with canned cat food too. — Morgana commented.

-It was nothing I swear. — Ren assured.

-Fine… — Ryuji said. — Ugh, that "sir" bullshit makes me sick!

-I know, but better avoid trouble for now… — Ren said with a calm tone of voice.

-Dammit…

The doors of the elevator open it and Ren and Ryuji and the crowd went inside. During the ride back to the restaurant Ren could only think of the person he saw, he sends a message. After that Ren, Ryuji, and Morgana went back to the buffet.

-Why you took so long!? — Ann complained.

-Why're you all pissy? — Ryuji asked surprised.

-Sorry… I had a run-in with some woman a second ago. — Ann apologized. — She bumped into me, but then said it was all my fault when she dropped her plate.

-We bumped into some rude men when we called the elevator. — Ren said.

-Sounds like a real bitch… — Ryuji exclaimed.

-Yeah… Thanks though. But the restaurant workers all looked at me with this disapproving expression… — She said with a down expression as the others sat down. — I wonder if we're out of the place…

-We're not out of the place… The problem it's the people… — Ren said.

A moment of silence reign and Ryuji and Ann looked at Ren, who was silent.

-…Hey, Morgana. — Ryuji called.

-What is it?

-…Anyone could have a Palace, yeah?

-Anyone with a strong, distorted desire. — Morgana replied.

-Same for them havin' a change of heart if their Treasure gets stolen? — Ryuji asked.

-That would be the case.

-Why are you bringing this up all of sudden? — Ann asked.

-As Ren said, we had trouble earlier too. These selfish shitheads who just looked down on everyone else… — Ryuji commented. — …I was wonderin' if we'd be able to change those kindsa people too.

-You mean… you wanna continue as the Phantom Thieves? — The blonde girl asked.

-…I've been thinkin'. We put a lot of work changin' Kamoshida's heart, but nobody believes in the Phantom Thieves. — Ryuji said. — Plus… those guys who had no other choice but to just deal with it are thankin' us. Us. Of all of people.

-Why not?

Ann looked at Ren.

-I mean, there are people who need our help. And I could help them as an attorney, they need someone to stand for them, and I simply couldn't stop now. Plus, as the Phantom Thieves, we can make sure these people will face justice. I'm in. So, why do you think, Ann?

-I… I agree. If we ignore people who are in trouble, I'd go back being the same as I was before…

-Well, that's true. — Morgana said.

Another moment of silence and Ren glanced at both.

-I'm not willing to let what happened to repeat again. I've failed before, I'll not let that happened again. As an attorney, I vowed to protect others. I will do my best, both as an attorney and as a phantom thief. I can count on you, Mona?

-Yes. You're under my tutelage. There's nothing we can't accomplish as phantom thieves! — Morgana said determinately.

-Shouldn't we be able to help 'em out? — Ryuji said.

-We can with my position as an attorney and we as the phantom thieves. I confess I was thinking about that, but now I'm sure. We can't back down now. — Ren said determinedly.

-But… That means we'll have to fight Shadows again, doesn't it? — Ann said.

-Indeed. That can't be avoided. — Morgana said.

-Eh, I'm sure we'll manage. — Ryuji said carefree and he laughed. — Right?

-We have to. Or we'll never be able to change things. — Ren said seriously. — I'm in.

-Heh… Even if you guys are still just fledglings, this means we're an actual organization now. — Morgana said excitedly.

-Fledglings? — Ann laughed. — That's actually pretty fitting for us.

Ren laughed too.

-Well, I'm still a rookie, but you guys better not underestimate me. This rookie here is ready to rock. — He said determinedly. — It seems I will have to open my own office for now.

-All right, it's settled! We're gonna catch all these shitty adults by surprise, and make ourselves known to the world! — Ryuji said excitedly.

-Are you okay being our leader? — Ann asked.

-Of course. I'll be the leader.

-No objections here! I can't handle all that responsibility stuff.

-Where's my say in this? But Lady Ann made the recommendation, so I'll allow it. — Morgana said.

-We should decide on a name for our group? I just went with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts last time, but don't you think a real name would be cooler? — Ryuji asked.

-Ohh, I've got it! — Ann said proudly. — I want it to be something both cute and luxurious sounding… Let me see… How about "The Diamonds."?

-…I'm gettin' a real little league baseball feel from it. — Ryuji said disappointedly.

-I do agree… — Ren said.

-Well then, here's my suggestion. How about "Tilefish Poele"? — Morgana asked.

-Tile… Uh, what? — Ryuji asked confused.

-That's what I ate earlier. It's commemorative, no? — Morgana asked.

-Out of the question. — Ren said.

-Hell no, you idiot! — Ryuji said and he sighed. — Ugh, Ren, you decide for us.

Ren took his notebook and started to write on it.

-The Phantom Thieves of Hearts… I really do like that name. Why not do we keep it? To make it short, we'll call ourselves the Phantoms.

-Huh, that's not bad at all. — Ann said.

-A good name, for a rookie. — Morgana said.

-We really goin' with that?

-Yes. Now about my office… What do you guys think of the Amamiya Law and Co. Offices? — Ren asked.

-We like it. — Ann, Ryuji, and Morgana said.

-Then it's settled! The Phantom Thieves of Hearts and the Amamiya Law and Co. Office are finally open.

-Well now that the name's set, who's our next target? — Ann asked.

-There are tons of rotten adults and all… why not just stick to targeting big names? — Ryuji asked.

-Like a celebrity or a CEO? — Ren said taking a sip of his coffee.

-Yeah, something among those lines. If we go after some bigwig, it's gonna get on the news, right?

-Right. That'll call the people attention

-Don't you think more people would believe in us if we did that? — Ryuji asked.

-That's not a bad idea… for you, Ryuji. — Morgana said.

-True. If we become better known… we might be able to give courage to a lot of people. — Ann said. — But I don't really like the idea of just picking up someone out of the blue though.

-Well, we should wait for the opportunity to arrive. — Ren said. — Until then we'll wait for a target.

-Agreed. We'll pick up a target everyone agrees. — Ryuji said.

-Hm, so we need a bigwig we decide on unanimously. — Morgana said.

-It's better this way. — Ren said.

-I like this unanimous decision part! It's like we're making some kind of pact! — Ann said.

-Now then, this is the official formation of the Phantom Thieves organization. And also the foundation of the Amamiya Law and Co. Office! — Morgana said excitedly.

-Oh no!

-What's wrong, Ann? — Ren asked.

-Our time for the buffet ran out… — Ann said.

-I guess we'll just have to talk more tomorrow.

-Yeah… At the same place? — Ren asked and Ann, Ryuji, and Morgana nodded their head in affirmation. — Okay, it's settled then.

Unknown Place.

Unknown Time.

-Stop.

Ren stopped talking and Sae stared at him in disbelief.

-Another world in which people's distorted cognition take shape? Stealing treasure to change hearts? And on top of that, a talking cat told you all of this? And your mentors knew about that?

Ren smirked.

-That's I'm telling you, Prosecutor Niijima. Believe it or not, it's the truth, so it's up to you to believe it or not. — He replied.

-Honestly speaking, that all sounds absurd. It's hard to believe that this is even worth listening to. Still, it can't be considered nonsense when parts of it align with Kamoshida's confession. The same goes to the testimony of the officers who arrested you.

-As I said. However, that alone doesn't make a case, right, Prosecutor Niijima?

-But so be it. At any rate, you mentioned something more importantly. These two other accomplices, besides this talking cat thing that appeared in your story. From what you've telling me, they're students at the same school, are they?

-According to my story, yes. But that alone doesn't prove anything, Prosecutor Niijima. Perhaps you're right.

-"Perhaps"? …Don't take me for a fool.

-Far from it, Prosecutor Niijima. As I said, there are nothing proving their involvement with me. You should know that well.

Sae stood silent but agreed.

-Very well. I'll leave at that. Let's continue on. The questioning's not over, anyway. If you are making this up, the cracks in your story will prove it.

-Very well. Let's continue.

AUTHOR NOTES:

Hello, it's me. How are you all doing in the pandemic? I hope everything is well for all of you.

First of all: I have some doubts about what I should do in the story. Should I bring the confidant's stories, or I should only keep the main story straight? I really like the confidants/social links of Persona 5 and I thought it'll be nice to give some context to the story.

Second of all: Should I bring side stories explaining several things? I want to explain a few things and I do believe I should bring separately in chapters telling and explaining a few things about the main story, with some of the stories giving more context to certain things which will happen along with the story, so that will not be out of context or without explanation. So if you want or not, please comment. Any feedback is important for me.

That's all for today, if you like please comment, that's helps me to motivate. For now, Court will be adjourned.
