Percy Jackson
Days passed by, though the only way Percy knew was when Annabeth would bring him food and tell him what day it was. He tried talking to her but she would never stop to talk to him. She'd just slide the food through the slot in the door, taunt him while telling him what day it was when he asked, then leave.
Percy noted she was distracted. Every time he looked through the slot to look her in the eyes, she would always look away. She wouldn't ever meet his eyes. No matter what he said, he was met by cold indifference.
Annabeth never came to beat him anymore either, in fact, she didn't even harm him. She never opened the door again.
Percy wondered if she felt guilty about beating him. He noticed during the beatings she looked disturbed when she saw the blood dripping out of his nose and mouth.
Now he was being treated better. The food had gotten way better. Before, he was eating moldy bread, drinking water that tasted like it came from a toilet, and often times, he'd end up puking his guts out into the sink. Now he was eating stuff like cake, steaks, salads, and drinking clean water.
The top flap to his door opened. Percy walked over to the door and looked through, only to be met by a pair of gray eyes staring back at him. Annabeth.
"Move, Percy, I'm coming in." She said.
Percy moved aside. His heart dropped into his stomach as Annabeth opened the door. Maybe she was giving him a break and now she was going to start beating him again. He steeled himself for the coming events. He tried not to vomit up his lunch.
Annabeth opened the door and walked in, carrying a tray of food. She walked to the middle of the room, sat down and set the tray in front of her. She motioned for him to sit in front of her.
Percy shuffled over. He sat down and looked at the food. His stomach rumbled at what he saw. There were freshly cooked cinnamon buns, a fruit yogurt bowl, a medium rare steak, and a red solo cup of blue liquid. All of it smelled so good, Percy could see himself eating his way into a coma. He wasn't sure where to even start.
Annabeth inched the cup of liquid towards him, "I know you like blue Coke but we don't have any. I found some blue Mountain Dew instead, I hope you don't mind."
Percy reached for the cup and drank some of the liquid. Sure enough, it was Mountain Dew. The first drop felt like electric when it landed on his tongue. His brain released as much dopamine as it could.
He set the cup down and sighed, "Thank you."
Annabeth hummed and stretched her legs.
"So, why are you being all nice to me now?" Percy asked as he reached for one of the cinnamon buns.
Annabeth looked to the ceiling and let out a sigh. Then she looked at him, "Because I'm sorry. I shouldn't have beat you like I did."
"What?"
"I'm sorry, okay?!" She said loudly.
Percy was confused. Annabeth was a stubborn girl, she rarely apologized for anything. The fact she actually came to him and apologized was surprising. She even brought him food.
Annabeth brought her legs to her chest and stared down at the food while Percy ate. He noticed she didn't look angry anymore, in fact, she looked kind of shy. He'd never seen her like this, at least not in a long while.
"I, uh, okay." Percy said.
Annabeth shot him a glance, "Okay? That's all you can say?!"
"Annabeth, I don't know what to tell you." Percy said, setting down his food, "What am I supposed to say when my best friend shows up and starts beating the shit out of me? Or how about the fact that you're working for the side that wants me dead?"
Annabeth shrunk a little, "Like I said, I'm sorry about that."
Percy knew he should've just accepted the apology but the more he thought about it, the more he realized Annabeth had done plenty wrong against him and not just him, but everyone back at camp.
"Sorry doesn't cut it, Annabeth. What you did was wrong. You hurt me." He said.
"And how are you any better, Percy?!" Annabeth shouted as she got to her feet, "You left me! You let Kronos take me!"
"I didn't 'let' Kronos take you!" Percy stood and yelled, "He kidnapped you! I spent months flying around on Blackjack looking for you."
"And you still couldn't find me. Do you have any idea what I went through?" She asked.
"I—"
"And it was all your fault, Percy!" Annabeth screamed. She pointed to her armor, "You think I wanted this?! I gave up on you because you gave up on me."
Percy watched as she turned away from him. He couldn't help but notice her voice cracked when she screamed. It was like she was hurting too but never wanted to show it.
"Annabeth, there's one thing that you've gotten wrong." He said calmly.
"What's that?" She turned to glare at him.
"I didn't give up on you, Annabeth. Everywhere I went, I looked for you. I could've moved on and found a girlfriend but I didn't, I waited for you." He said.
"Why'd you do that?" She asked, "Because you felt guilty? That's all it is with you, isn't it, Percy? You only care about yourself."
"I did it because I promised I would come back to you." He said quietly.
"What are you talking about?" She asked in a firm tone.
Percy's heart shattered into pieces right then and there. She forgot their promise. Even two years later and Percy still remembered it, yet she didn't know what he was talking about. How could she blame him for doing everything wrong when she forgot their promise?
Percy turned away and started to walk to his bed. He should've known she was really gone. He let his hopes up and it came back to bite him in the ass.
"Don't you walk away from me, Percy!" She demanded, "Get back here!"
Percy ignored her. What he couldn't ignore was Annabeth running up behind him and punching him. He grunted and tried to fight her off. This time, he grabbed her by the waist and threw her across the room.
"Leave!" Percy shouted at her.
Annabeth got to her feet and drew her dagger. She was about to charge him when he noticed something at her feet. The photo of them together was laying on the ground, it must've fallen out of his pocket. His eyes stayed on it and Annabeth noticed. She looked down and softened her stance. She sheathed her knife and crouched down to pick it up.
"Don't—" Percy started but it was too late, she was already looking at it.
"That promise." She said as she stared at the photo, "Don't give up on us."
Percy fought the smile that threatened to appear on his face. He was glad he did because it would've been wiped off when he saw her put the photo in her pocket. She nodded at him before leaving the cell, shutting the door behind her.
Percy sat down and sighed, that photo was actually pretty important to him. He hoped she didn't burn it or anything.
Annabeth Chase
Annabeth stormed into her private bedroom. She threw open the gilded doors, stomped in, and slammed the doors behind her. Some of the other half-bloods looked at her like she was crazy while others steered clear of her path. Annabeth didn't care if Kronos himself asked her what was wrong, she'd kick him out of her room all the same.
Her room looked like it was designed for a queen. Large windows gave amazing views of the forests outside, letting plenty of sunlight in. A chandelier dangled from the ceiling. Her dresser had a huge mirror that she rarely used, she pretty much only wore her armor. She didn't wear much underneath her armor, save for a strapless bra and a very short pair of panties. That didn't mean she didn't have clothes, she had a white royal robe she wore for special occasions as well as a set of clothes she could wear under her armor. She just didn't wear much since her armor covered most of her body.
Her room had a bathroom attached to it which she used quite often. She enjoyed having her own private bathroom compared to the shared restroom of cabin six. Part of her missed living so close to her siblings.
She slumped against her door and slid down. She sat there and looked on with dead eyes. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the photo she took from Percy. She remembered everything now, even the promise. She couldn't believe she had forgotten the promise that they made. She was surprised he even remembered.
The guilt started to eat her alive. This entire time, Percy hadn't given up on her. She often thought that he'd run off with Rachel yet she knew he wasn't lying when he told her didn't find another girl.
"I fucking hate you, Percy." She said aloud.
Part of her disagreed with the words that came out of her mouth. How could she possibly hate a guy who had done so much for her? There were plenty of situations where Percy could've left her and probably have been better off yet he stuck by her side. How was it fair to hate him over one mistake?
Soon, the floodgates started to open. Tears started to run down Annabeth's face, dripping onto her armor and the floor below. She felt so guilty, she'd betrayed everyone by taking Kronos's offer. She didn't swear allegiance to him but not once did the thought ever come across her mind to just leave. For some reason, part of her liked where she was at. The thought terrified her, what if she was turning into a full-blown traitor?
The more Annabeth thought about what she was doing, the worse she felt. Her tears started quietly but now she was sobbing. She couldn't help but feel she let Percy down. She had her chance to help him, she could've broken him out by now, yet she was still continuing to be his jailer.
It's not over, you know. A voice in her head said.
It's completely over for you. You made your decision, stick with it. Another crueler voice snarled.
You can take Percy and leave at any moment. You don't have to stick with Kronos. The voice was calmer and gentler.
How about you go and have Kronos's baby, traitor? The cruel voice seethed.
Take Percy and run.
Stay and serve!
Annabeth took a deep breath and wiped her eyes, "We'll never be separated again, Percy."
