Hermione walked slowly to the dig site and smiled as she saw Bill talking animatedly to one of their coworkers.
The pair had started dating a couple of years after the breakdown of his marriage to Fleur, and their relationship had only gone from strength to strength.
Hermione had been working in the same department at Gringotts with him and after a long discussion they had decided to request a transfer into the field with Egypt being their first choice.
Bill had missed being on site and the picture he painted had completely enthralled her.
"Hello Bill, Yusef. How are things going?" she asked.
"Do you want to tell her, or should I?" their friend asked.
"We have found an undisturbed tomb. It wasn't the one we were looking for, but it's important nonetheless," Bill told her, grinning widely.
"That's great! Do we know who it belongs to yet?" Hermione asked.
This was the reason she had agreed to go abroad with him. Everyday was full of discoveries and adventures. It didn't matter if they were big or small, only that she shared them with him.
"Nefertiti."
"No…," she trailed off in disbelief.
"Yes," Bill said, clearly amused at her reaction.
Nefertiti was the great queen of Akhenaten, and they had been struck from history after they had failed to convert the country into believing in a single god. There were rumours that she had briefly ruled as Pharaoh under the name of Neferneferuaten, but this was still to be confirmed.
And now it could be, she thought.
There was a feeling of excitement rising in her stomach and she realised that this was how Howard Carter must have felt before the opening of Tutankhamen's tomb.
"We sent Mohammed back to the Cairo branch of Gringotts to explain the situation. I'm sure the muggle authorities will want to know about such a significant find and we may have to work with them whilst excavating the tomb," Yusef explained.
"That sounds reasonable. What do you think Gringotts will say? Will they actually want us to remain working on it if they can't have any of the treasure?" Hermione asked, furrowing her brows.
"They may leave a skeleton crew to say that they were involved as it's such a big discovery, but they will want us to move on quickly so we can bring more treasure back to them. They will want us to recoup what we have lost from this one," Bill explained.
Hermione nodded.
She didn't like the thought of not staying here but she understood where her employer was coming from, and only hoped that she would be one of the ones to stay.
