Alec awoke on the couch in Simon's living room. Everyone was sitting around him and they all shot up once he opened his eyes. "Thank the Angel! I was so friggin 'worried for you!" Jace practically jumped onto Alec as he wrapped his arms around him in a tight embrace. Alec smiled faintly and groaned under Jace's enthusiastic hug. He could feel all his limbs cry out for energy. He looked out the window behind him to see that it was well into the next day. The sun was high in the sky, probably in the afternoon. Jace let go and moved away as Izzy came over to Alec's side and grabbed his face in her hands. Alec looked into her eyes. They were swollen and red. He could see the water welling up in them as she smiled at him. Poor Izzy, what have I put her through? These thoughts of worry and guilt raced through his mind as he looked at her wrecked appearance. "I'm alright Izzy. This is weird for all of us." She was taken aback by his voice. It was still his voice but it had a ring to it that sent shivers throughout the group similar to the archangel, Samael. Alec had a quizzical look on his face as he heard the change in his voice as well. "Why did you let me drink so much of your blood?" Alec's head snapped over to where Magnus sat in a chair and with a flash he was standing next to him, leaning down and caressing his face. Everyone let out a small gasp.
"Are you alright? I'm so sorry." Alec's voice wavered as he said this. To think of just how close he had come to ending his whole world was like sinking a dagger into his lungs. "It is alright, Alec. You didn't hurt me. It was a beautiful connection. The blood you gave me was incredibly restorative and very powerful. My magic has been immeasurably strong all morning because of it. Only now do I feel the power begin to wane. Why did you give me so much?" Alec was so relieved that Magnus appeared to have been fully restored. He smiled as he looked at his husband. "Samael told me to. He said it was expected of your mate to return what was taken. He also said that it will not happen again." "Yes we heard him say that it was to do with some first connection with your mate." Simon chimed in. "Apparently it is normal for these higher archangels to have human mates on earth. This completely contradicts what has been written in the scriptures and clave writings." Ezekiel startled them all by adding.
Everyone looked over to Ezekiel. "I am not sure how much more of our writings are incorrect but at the rate we are learning through Alec and the angel Samael's connection, I imagine far more is going to be proven terribly wrong to us. My own knowledge, which is very lacking, of the Leviathans Samael spoke of could be false." Tension built in everyone. So much was happening so fast they barely seemed to be able to keep up and to add to all of it, this impending battle with these creatures who sounded like boogiemen, no one in the room seemed able to calm. "What do you know of them, my friend?" Magnus looked to Ezekiel as he asked. He smiled and continued. "I know that they were supposed to have been God's very first creations after his angels. It was said to be his first exploration into the creation of living things, however they were eternal like the angels and powerful, but full of envy and greed. They always wanted more than anyone could give. They were best described as eternally hungry for everything. They would infect everything God created around them. Plants would wilt and die, the very light of the sun dimmed in their presence. They fed on the energy around them. God took his most impressive and powerful angels and led them in a fight against his first creations to protect his most prized creations, the humans."
Alec, who had been listening intently as he stood next to Magnus suddenly felt very drained and collapsed to the ground. "Alec!" Several of them screamed in unison. Alec was fading in and out of consciousness. Jace could feel the pulsing in his veins and his Parabatai mark again. He knew that Alec needed to feed desperately. He had given so much of his blood to Magnus last night and now he had slept and gone all this time without it. He worried how often he would need to be fed as he was clearly very weak when he needed it. Jace worried how much of a disadvantage this would give him in the battles to come. Jace quickly picked up Alec and carried him over to the couch and laid him down. "He needs to feed." Jace stated to everyone. Jace felt very lightheaded suddenly as a presence entered his mind. He is new and needs to feed more often and is weaker when without. This will not always be so. It was the ringing sound of the angel Samael's voice in Jace's mind. "How are you in my head?" Jace spoke aloud. Everyone looked at him quizzically. I am connected to you through him. You are connected and so we are. Jace frowned. He wasn't sure how he felt about this connection but a part of him knew that it would be beneficial to them all so he set aside his feelings of invasion. How often am I going to need to feed him? How long will it be before he no longer gets so vulnerable when he is hungry? Jace waited for a moment but there was no response from the angel. He began to wonder if the angel had disappeared but then there was a light filling up the room.
The angel appeared before them once again and once again he was dressed simply in a white shirt and set of white pants. His piercing blue eyes stared at them all. Jace stepped towards him. "How long will he be this vulnerable?" The angel raised a hand to silence Jace. "My son is just beginning his transformation and will need time to come into his own. For now he will need to be fed once a day as long as he doesn't use too much power. I was not expecting his mate to already be in his life. To have the Divine Connection so close to his metamorphosis was not good on him. He will also need to feed from me once a week until his transformation is complete and he has absorbed all of his powers. However, as he has weakened himself too much I shall feed him again now." Everyone was still as a statue. How long would it take for Alec to be at max power and what would that look like?! "When will we know when he is at full power?" Magnus asked. Samael made a passing glance over everyone in the room and then walked over to where Alec laid on the couch. Alec was beginning to shake as little tremors passed through him. It was clear he was suffering from the need to feed. Samael sat down next to him on the couch and pulled him into his lap. Everyone was standing so still barely a breath was heard in the room. They all waited to see if the angel would answer their questions.
Alec's head rolled back in Samael's arms and his eyes fluttered open for a second. His eyes were a brilliant and intense silver. The angel smiled down at him lovingly as he spoke once more to the room. "His eyes will tell you. For now he has the beautiful silver eyes of a new creation. Every angel created by god started with these silver eyes. As his powers mature his beautiful blue shall return." "That is why he is the only member of our family to have such intense blue eyes! Our mother is the only one to have blue eyes but nothing like Alec's." Izzy blurted out. "He is your descended child." The angel looked upon Izzy lovingly. "As are you my child, but yes he was the chosen descendent and he has my eyes." Small gasps echoed around the room. The angel lifted Alec's head up to his throat pressing his face against the skin there. Everyone felt a vibration of power come from the angel and with it Alec's mouth opened and locked to Samael's throat. A small stream of blood escaped from the corner of his mouth trailing down the angel's throat. In just moments Alec's eyes opened and he let go quickly sitting up on the couch and moving next to the angel. His face reddened looking at everyone as they stared at them. It did not take much of Samael's blood to restore him. It was so powerful.
"Please do not disappear again, we need more information on what Alec is going to face." Jace pleaded to the angel. "Yes I do not know much and I do not know how much of what I know is true." Ezekiel chimed in. The angel stood and walked to the center of the room and raised his hands. As he did so a ball of light formed between his hands and inside the light the group could see images. They saw the black mist and slowly the mist grew and formed into large colossal creatures that looked similar to sea serpents. They were black and slimy looking with rows of razor sharp fangs that looked like they could tear a school bus in half. The angel spoke to them as the pictures continued. "What you were saying to them earlier was partially right and also very wrong." He dropped his hands and the image disappeared with the light and he continued.
"The Leviathans were God's first attempt at creation after my brothers and sisters and I were created. The idea that a God cannot make mistakes is folly. He was experimenting and of course he would make many many mistakes before he created the perfection of humanity. These creatures are not demons, they are older and far more evil. He had not developed the idea of conscience and morality yet. When he created angels he wanted children so we are the closest to him and so we have all those constructs built in already, but the Leviathans were untamed creations. God did not draw upon himself to form these creations. He made them with wild feverish abandon. He didn't form their minds to care for those around them. They are sentient but their sentience is based on their envy and hunger for everything. The more our father created the more they devoured. They did not devour all in their path at first but they grew with their hunger and before long they threatened all of God's creations. He had just finished with humanity and it had taken a lot out of him. Humans were built with something unique to all other creations. They each had a spark of his very ability to create; a soul. These souls that each and every human whether blessed with angel blood or cursed with demon blood has are massively powerful because of that spark of creation. When our father saw that his first creations would threaten everything, especially humanity, he used the very last of his creation to give those most dear to him, his closest sons, more power."
Ezekiel all but passed out with this information and everyone was now sitting down. This flood of unbelievable information racked their brains. How could they even cope with the gravity of what the angel Samael had just imparted on them. Simon was the first to speak after several minutes of silence as everyone absorbed what they learned in varying levels of awe and horror. "So God…th-the God…Cannot create anymore?" Samael looked at Simon with an almost sorrowful expression on his face as he answered. "No. He cannot. If he could, many of my closest brothers and sisters would be alive again and we would have more of them to help in this coming battle. Those that fell have fallen forever." "Could you turn other shadowhunters into what you are? You said Alec could only turn someone who shares a part of his soul because he is turned himself, so doesn't that imply that as a created angel you could turn others?" Clary asked in a murmur, afraid to stir the angel's anger.
"Yes and No. I could turn any nephilim into an angelic being like Alec but they could not be an Angel of Death as they would not share my blood by birthright. This means that they would have but a fraction of the power he has. He could turn others too but they would be glorified vampires themselves 10 times more powerful than a vampire but still nowhere near powerful enough to fight what we face. Four high Warlocks could match their power. He can only turn one person in the whole world into a true Angel of Death with all the powerful glory of God." The angel looked directly at Jace. Ezekiel spoke, "You said that you were given more power with the last of God's creation. Does this mean that you were different before? What power did he give you if you don't mind me asking?" "My twin brother and I were his first children and as the first we are the most powerful and those he turned to. He gave us the power to draw upon the divine energy of his greatest creation in order to combat the Leviathans greed and special ability to draw on energy around them. To any other creature they are impossible to stop as they take their power and use it against them. Our power cannot be absorbed by them. Any creature we turn would also be immune but they are greatly powerful. To turn someone who could not be a true Angel of Death and pit them against the Original Sinners would be suicide."
"How many of these Leviathans are left?" Ezekiel asked. "There are six left that we trapped. My brother and I were able to turn some of our younger siblings and it helped us but my brother fell alongside all of these other siblings. He was a great warrior even though you consider him evil and curse his name on earth. I so loathe the false prophets in that blasphemous book you humans wrote." "Who was your twin?" Izzy asked. "He was known as the lightbringer or the Morningstar, you humans called him Lucifer." Everyone gasped quite loudly and a few "Oh mys" were heard around the room. "My brother was no devil to turn your hearts to evil. He was always a thinker. He tried to create creatures from the souls of humans passed to help fight the darkness that the Leviathans created with the absorption of power. He tried to use them in a way that could repel or survive in that darkness, but we angels did not have that kind of power of creation and it did not work and what's worse the Leviathans found and turned those failed creations into the ancient demons who birthed the most powerful first demons you know of today. They created those demons who would go on to create all those creatures in what you call the downworld. Fortunately the human soul stays intact within your downworlders and they remain immune to the natural evil of the ancient influence of the Original Sinners. Alas, this is too much information for all of you to comprehend and no other human has ever been privy to this information before today. I should leave you to comprehend what I have told you."
Jace shot up from his seat. "Wait! If these creatures are as hard as you say to defeat, would it not be wise to create more angelic vampires even if they are not as strong to help Alec and you in this fight." The angel sat up and walked over to Jace and cupped his face in his hands as he spoke gently. "Would you become an Angel of Death for Alec just to keep him safe, would you sacrifice others in his name? Yes I suppose it would help but that is not for me to decide. I could only decide his fate. I will leave the rest to my son and his acolytes as my father has decreed." With that he disappeared leaving them all to grapple with a world that had just been entirely turned upside down for them. Alec gasped as he realized what power he truly had. They all stared at each other in silence contemplating what it meant to be God's last creation.
