Cristian walked into Rodi's and spotted John at the bar. Walking up he waited for the other man to be done with a customer for a moment before walking over to him.
"Cris-I'm sorry about the other day. You're right-I screwed up and have no real right to be asking about Natalie's love life. I also know better than to think Natalie would bring anyone questionable into our son's life. I wasn't asking because of Liam's safety-I was asking because the thought of her being with anyone else makes me jealous."
"At least you admitted it pretty quick this time," grinned Cris. "Speaking of our favorite redhead-has she come by with the kids and Erin?"
"Not today-why?"
Cris shook his head, "They were supposed to go to the park and then Erin and Charlotte were going to meet me for lunch at the diner. They never showed and I can't get either Erin or Natalie to answer their phones."
John paused, tapping his fingers against the wooden bar trying to think where the two might have gone off to. "A movie perhaps?"
"Still doesn't explain why she didn't call me first about the change in plans," he said as they heard Roxy's voice and turned to see her come in carrying Charlotte and holding Liam's hand.
"Daddy!" he yelled as he wrangled himself out of Roxy's hold and came running around the bar to his dad.
"Hey, buddy. Where's your mom?" he asked as he saw Cris take Charlotte from Roxy and hold her tight. When he couldn't get an answer out of his son he looked over, "Roxy, how did you get them?"
"I was walking from the diner back to the hotel with my lunch. They were sitting at the fountain, Liam with his arm around Charlie holding her tight. Natalie and Erin were nowhere around."
"Liam, did you two go to the park?" he asked and got a strong nod. "Where did your mom go?"
"A man grabbed her. He asked me where you were and mommy went to talk to him. He grabbed her and another man grabbed Miss Erin. It's ok, Charlie. Our dads are here," he said as he looked over to her and reached for her hand.
Had it been any other moment John would have smiled-the relationship between these two was something special, but looking at Cris right now he knew something was wrong, they just weren't sure how wrong it was.
"John-over here," said Bo as they stood in the park, mere feet away from the slides and swings.
John walked quickly over to see Bo holding out an envelope for him. Slipping on some gloves he took note of the name Johnny scrawled across the front. He could taste the bile rising up as he opened it up and read the letter.
Johnny,
I was upset to hear you left the organization without as much as a goodbye. And then to find out you were part of the FBI and had been sent to infiltrate my organization. You know I don't like to be double crossed.
That red head of yours sure is pretty-wouldn't want anything to happen to her or the blonde I had to take as well.
You know how to reach me.
"Shit," he said with a curse as he looked over to see Cristian was joining them after dropping the kids off with his mom. "Are they ok?"
"Yeah, she's got them eating a giant bowl of ice cream as a distraction. What's that?" he asked, nodding to the letter.
John handed it over, not worried about fingerprints any longer, "It's from my undercover stint. His name is Raul and-."
"Unbelievable," growled Cristian as he pushed at John, ready for a fight.
"Hey-cool it, Cris," said Bo as he got himself between the two men. "Fighting right now isn't going to find them any quicker."
"I know, but this is just like before with Vegas. Natalie's life is in jeopardy because your stupid work with the FBI. And now Erin as well. I will be damned if I let another wife of mine be collateral damage because of you."
"Nobody is going to be collateral damage. I'm not a Fed anymore. Do you think I would have come back to Llanview if I thought Natalie or Liam would be in danger? You know me better than that, Cris."
Cristian backed down and went walking towards the swings to cool off. The other two men watched him for a moment before Bo turned to speak, "Do you know how to get in contact with the Raul guy?"
John let out a deep breath before nodding, his eyes still on Cris, "Yeah. I want to use a phone at the station. And call my former Supervisor with the Bureau to let him know what's going on."
John walked into his office with Bo and Cristian following behind him-he wanted to tell Cris that this was a police matter and he needed him to stay with the kids instead, but he knew the man wouldn't listen right now. That if the roles were reversed John would be doing the same thing he was.
He'd called the bureau on the way in-at least having some sort of privacy when Bo offered Cris to ride in his car instead of John's. The Bureau had done the raid on Raul's organization and shut it down. But must have been a mole in the organization because when the Feds went to his residence it was empty and so far he'd stayed underground. Whoever the person was, they obviously knew who John was and had shared this information with Raul.
"You ok, John?" asked Bo as he watched John stare at the phone in silence.
John just shook his head and motioned for the door to be closed. Putting the phone on speaker he dialed a number he had dialed a hundred times while undercover and waited for it to ring. Instead of it ringing it immediately went to voicemail and they three listened to the message.
This town you have here is quite cute, Johnny. I can see why you are so fond of it. I heard Rodi's has the best burger in town. Meet me at 188 Riverwood Trace and we can discuss that-amongst other things. And I know I don't have to tell you no cops.
"I'm going with you," spoke Cristian before anyone else could speak.
"No-you heard him. No cops."
"I'm not a cop, John," said Cris, pointing out the obvious. "Besides-you are going to need someone to get the girls back here safely."
John brooded over his options before nodding, "I'm going to need some time to set up before we go-can you check on the kids? Maybe have your mom take them to Llanfair until we're done?"
"Sure," he said as he walked out of the room and left Bo and John alone.
"Are you ok with him going?"
John shrugged, "Not really, but he's right-I will need someone to take the girls to safety."
"What Raul said about Rodi's-do you think?"
"I don't know anything about this guy anymore, Bo. And honestly I don't even know who at the Bureau to trust. One of them that was undercover with me must have turned. They took down the organization but he was in the wind when they tried to grab him. And then the guy shows up here? What are the chances of that?
"As for Rodi's I'm going to call Jeff and tell him to keep it closed for today. Might want to have the bomb squad do a sweep just in case."
"Let me get that going-anything else you need?"
He sighed, running his hand over his hair to try and focus, not sure what to do first, "A print out of the property Raul mentioned and the ones adjacent to it."
"Will do," he said as he left the office, and glanced back to see John had turned and was now staring out the window lost in thought.
