Tokyo National Institute of Mental Services

Adolescent Residential Ward

Shinji followed Asuka over to where the other kids were. He saw the others staring at him as he walked over to a couch in front of the TV. Ultraman was playing on the TV.

Asuka sat down on the couch and patted the spot next to her. Shinji looked at her for a minute before slowly sitting down next to her.

He nervously looked around the room, anxiety rising within him. He kept looking at all the new people around him.

"... So where are you from?..."

Asuka asked, not turning away from the television. For a moment he thought she was asking someone else, but saw that no one else answered her back.

"I'm from a place called Hakone… But I call it Tokyo-III."

"Huh… Never heard of it… I'm originally from Germany but my family moved here after my father killed himself."

Her voice didn't waver one bit. It was cold. Shinji looked at her with a look of worry. Somehow Asuka noticed and frowned at him.

"Don't pity me. That's all I'll ask of you and anyone here in this hellhole."

They two stared at each other for a moment. Two pairs of sky blue eyes locked on each other.

"O-Oh ok… I'm sorry…"

She lightly punched him on the shoulder.

"And don't say sorry to me either!"

He quickly straightened up and faced forward.

"S-Sor- Yes Ma'am!"

Asuka sighed and shook her head, a look of disappointment forming on her face.

"Wait, did you say that you're from Germany?"

He asked excitedly. His eyes almost seemed to sparkle.

"Yes?..."

She said hesitantly, a bit perturbed at his newfound excitement.

"Unit 02 is from Germany!"

Confusion came onto her face.

"Unit 02?

"Yeah Unit 02! I'll ask Captain Katsuragi if she can let me show you it! I think you'll do better at fighting Angels than me!"

Asuka stayed silent for a moment before nodding. Taking that as a yes, he excitedly got up from the couch and walked off, supposedly to try and find her.

"What are Angels?..."

She asked herself, no one daring to answer.

Nurse's Station

Shinji excitedly walked over to the window separating him from the inside office. He knocked on it a few times to try and get someone's attention.

A young woman with brown hair and scrubs came to answer him at the door.

"Yes, may I help you?"

She asked.

"Do you know where Captain Katsuragi is? I've been trying to find her."

The nurse seemed confused by the Captain part but realized he meant Misato.

"Oh, Misato is going through some bags right now, I'm assuming those are yours correct?"

"Yup!"

. . .

"I'll see If I can get her."

As she was about to close the door, Shinji spoke up again.

"Ask her if she can bring all three of my Evangelions!"

She nodded and closed the door.

He waited outside the station next to the door.

He waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

Finally the door opened, but it wasn't Misato…

A tall old man stepped out followed by a much younger man with a stubbled face.

"Are you Shinji Ikari?"

The older man asked.

Shinji looked up at him and nodded.

"I'm Dr Kozo Fuyutsuki, I'll be your assigned doctor. This is Dr Ryoji Kaji, he'll be your assigned therapist."

Kaji extended his hand out to Shinji.

"It's nice to meet you Shinji. I'll be helping you throughout your stay here."

Shinji looked at the man, examining his features. He looked nice enough. But is he nice?

Every other person who said they would help him couldn't, They couldn't help him defeat the angels.

"C-can you help me defeat the Angels?"

Shinji looked at the man with the utmost sincerity.

. . .

"I can certainly try to. Why don't you take a walk with us? We can show you to your room and Katsuragi will bring your stuff soon."

"S-Sure!"

Kaji smiled and began to walk, Dr. Fuyutsuki and Shinji also walking with him. They pass dozens of rooms, some open, some closed, some with kids inside and some empty. Alot of them were actually empty…

They soon stopped in front of one with a marker board on the door.

Kaji took a marker from his pocket and began filling stuff out on it.

"Shinji, can you tell me your birthday please?"

He asked, turning to face him real quick.

"It's uh, June 6th… 2001…"

"Great!"

He continued writing stuff on the board until there was no more room on it.

"Alright Shinji lets go have a talk inside, I'll be taking some notes and so will Dr Fuyutsuki. We will both be asking some questions."

Kaji opened the door and let Shinji go in first. The room was painted blue with a lighter blue ceiling. The harsh white linoleum floor stood in contrast with the rest of the room.

A plastic bed sat on one end of the room with a plastic bed table on the left. The bed was fitted with a simple mattress and blanket.

A large window with curtains sat on the farthest wall from him, Showing him a nice view of the outside world. He seemed to be on the first floor. A nice park sat outside with orderlies and patients milling about. A couch was located right under the window.

Kaji and Fuyutsuki made their way over to the couch and sat down.

"Have a seat Shinji and we can get started. I can promise you you'll be ok."

Shinji hesitantly complied and sat down, anxiety still not leaving him.

"So, one question I want to ask right away is… What can you tell me about these Angels? Why do you want to attack the messengers of god?"

Shinji shifted uncomfortably.

"Adults usually don't understand…"

"I'm told I'm pretty childish sometimes. Try your best to explain."

Shinji thought about it for a moment.

"They… Are like… Giant monsters… Apparently they want to end humanity because they want to live on earth. And I have to pilot the Evangelion to stop them."

Kaji nodded and started writing this down in his notepad.

A knock came from the door before it opened.

Misato came in with a bag in her hands, but stopped for a moment when she looked at Kaji.

"Oh. You're his therapist."

She said flatly. He simply replied with a wink.

She scoffed and sat the bag next to Shinji's bed.

"We had to take out stuff with anything sharp, breakable or anything with string. Also we will hold on to your Evangelions when you go to sleep or not playing with them."

She had handed him three action figures. All of them looked similar in body and shape. The only differences being the colors, the heads, and some small details.

The first one was blue and white. Its head looked like it was wearing a helmet. It had a single red eye and a pointy chin.

The next one was purple and green. Its head looked inhuman, a sinister smile to its face. A horn jutting from its head like a demon.

The last one was red and orange. Its body looks much sleeker than the last two. Its head was smoother and bore 4 eyes.

"Are these the Evangelions? I don't think I've ever seen them in stores…"

Shinji shook his head.

"My father made them. They are just replicas of the real things. The blue one is Unit 00; The proto type. The purple one is Unit 01; The test type. And lastly, Unit 02, the production model."

Kaji looked intrigued by them. They had such wonderful detail.

"May I hold one?"

Shinji thought about it for a moment before slowly handing Unit 01 over to him.

Kaji carefully took it and began examining them.

"These are very well made… Your father put a lot of effort into making them. So are these the robots that help you defeat the angels?"

Shinji nodded.

"He made it for me and my sister, She pilots Unit 00, and I pilot Unit 01. We don't have one for Unit 02."

. . .

"I see. Well let's talk about your sister. Where is she?"

. . .

Shinji did not immediately answer him. His eyes fell, looking down at the floor.

"She… Isn't here. She only shows up when we need to pilot."

Kaji nodded again and kept writing in his notes, handing back the figures.

"Alright, let's talk some more."

10 minutes later.

"Alright Shinji, I'll stop by every Thursday, we will stop and chat in my office about how you are feeling, And Dr Fuyutsuki will see you every Friday to talk about your medications and health stuff."

Shinji nodded, he followed them out of his room and stood with them in the hall.

"Well Shinji, it was very nice to meet you. I'll speak to you possibly later today about some possible medications that you might need."

Fuyutsuki smiled and walked off, presumably to his office.

"I'll talk to you later Shinji, my office is almost open for everything."

He smiled, winked, and walked off.

Shinji stood by himself in the hall, cradling the figures in his arms. He looked at all of them with a small smile.

He noticed a redhead walking up to him.

"Is that the Evangelions you were talking about?"

He nodded and handed her Unit 02.

"This one is Unit 02, this is the one from Germany. I think you would like to pilot it."

She took it and examined it.

"I think I would like that…"

Thank you for all the nice reviews from the last chapter.
