Chapter 13. Strange allies.
8th April 1986.
Unknown forest,
Canada,
3:30 pm.
Remus Lupin was busy at work, lumbering, wood, when he noticed a house-elf, waiting for him.
"Tippy is sorry sir, but I was sent by my mistress to deliver a letter," The elf greeted.
"Hi, um, sure, Tippy just be careful, this is a mundane setting," added Remus.
The elf nodded and waited for his reply. Once, Remus read the letter and from whom it was he was at a loss. Amelia Bones was the head of the Dept of Magical Law Enforcement, in Britain. At the moment he was working in Canada. The house elf had traveled for days. He nodded, and realized this was important and Bones, well, Bones was reviled for a number of things, but not for her work ethic. Something big had happened, and now he was going to figure out what. He turned to the house elf and said, "Tippy, I'm about ready to finish my shift. Wait for me, and we will go back to my place and I can write a letter for you to give to your mistress, as an answer, alright?"
Tippy nodded and realized the wizard was different, he smelled like a wolf, he nodded but kept his distance. He was surprised when the wolf-wizard made his dinner and asked Tippy to join him at his table.
To Remus, it was a nice change to have a visiting house-elf, who was not as nervous as the rest. The house elves were recipients of the magic of their masters. Remus figured Tippy was a bit more sturdy given his relation to Amelia's magic. He shrugged and continued eating. He wrote his letter and replied that he would meet her and talk at the start of the next month since his contract was due by the end of April, and he would be back in London by May.
After the house elf left Remus wondered what could have taken place back in Britain, to make the head of the DMLE send her magical aide. He sighed and realized only time would tell. News traveled differently in the magical world. He would find out soon enough.
Meanwhile in Britain.
The head of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, one Cornelius Fudge, knocked on the door of Amelia Bones.
Amelia who at the time was busy gathering more information on the missing documents in the incarceration of Sirius Black and making a note to write to Harry Potter, in order to see if he had his parent's last will and testament read or not.
A moment later Amelia stopped at the sudden intrusion and turned to Fudge, and wondered if the man was constipated or the reason behind his anxious facial expression. It was Fudge who volunteered the answer.
"Uh, Bones, another ministry worker has disappeared," said Fudge.
"Oh, really. Have you filed a report with Kingsley Shacklebolt?" Amelia asked.
"Yes," answered Cornelius
"I didn't think you were close to McNair, but, I understand why you are asking about his whereabouts, he's been missing since yesterday, at the moment, and I'm working on Gibbon, Travers, Yaxley, Nott Sr, Wilkes, Thicknesse, the Carrow siblings, fortunately, Lucius Malfoy is not lost, while Dolohov, the Lestranges, and well Rookwood perished in Azkaban. I'm sure you can see Cornelius. I'm quite swamped with this load of missing-person cases. Was any of these people the person you were referring to?"
"Ah, no, her name is Delores Umbridge," added Fudge.
"Delores Umbridge?" Said Amelia as she started looking through her files. She stopped and said, "Oh, that Delores Umbridge,"
"What do you mean with 'that Delores Umbridge,' Bones?" Asked Fudge,
Amelia blinked, took the file from her desk, and gave it to Fudge. There in bold letters the confession of Delores in writing, stating that she was guilty of robbing the heirs of at least five fortunes in Gringotts. The death sentence was given by the goblins, and the execution was carried out an hour later. All of the previous taking place seventy-two hours before.
Fudge could not believe it, his biggest supporter for his next campaign for the post of the Minister of Magic, Delores, was a thief, and she had stolen from Gringotts, No one dared to be so senseless. But, no one could contest her declaration of guilt, her sentence, and her passing, all within the parameters of the law. Cornelius lamented, "This is terrible, now who's going to help me set up a campaign to get the main chair as Minister?"
"That's a very interesting question, if you want to be seen as a no-nonsense candidate, I suggest you ask Augusta Longbottom, if you want to seem neutral Evangelina Greengrass, and if you want to be dark Narcissa Malfoy, not Lucius, he's already too tainted by his death eater past, and the last name Malfoy will always be associated with a minion to the dark lord, now, Fudge, I really have to get back to work. I'm sorry for the loss of your former campaign assistant, but as you can see I'm a bit overwhelmed, alright?" Queried Amelia.
"Ah, yes, yes, I'm sorry for intruding Amelia, you really think Augusta Longbottom could provide me guidance? The witch is quite formidable," said Cornelius.
"Unless you ask, I really don't know," said Amelia as she closed the door on Cornelius. Oh, she knew Cornelius was an idiot, but now he had more options than that bigoted witch Umbridge, as a campaign manager. Amelia did know who that toad in pink was, and no she was not sorry for her passing. More so, when the Goblins were quick on dispatching justice. As for Cornelius; Amelia could only hope that the idiot with the green bowler hat had gotten a new perspective and ultimately a purpose. Then again, maybe pigs would fly too.
