A/N: Same update as before. Don't expect this regular of an update after chapter 4, but Army school gives me a lot of time to re write and plan.
Beacon Academy
Hound
"If this is a dying hallucination, its a damned detailed one." That was one of my many thoughts as I waited for the man called Ozpin to finish his speech. Truth be told I don't think my brain could have come up with something like this, even if I was dying. On top of that something just felt...too real about all of it. The pain and spike of fear I'd felt as a giant fucking scorpion came at me and a bunch of strange kids was definitely not something I'd ever dream up.
His speech finished, Ozpin motioned for me and his deputy to follow. I'll give the old man credit, he seemed unfazed on the long elevator ride to his office. They didn't even take my weapons, which made me think they were either stupid...or not very worried, and I didn't peg this guy for stupid.
Our journey eventually culminated in me seated across from the man and his deputy standing at his side. "Mr...ah Hound is it? I must admit I find myself perplexed by your sudden...appearance at our academy. Perhaps you could shed some light on what exactly you are doing here?"
"Honestly? I was hoping you had answers for me. Who are you people? Where am I? And what in hell were those THINGS you had a bunch of kids fighting?"
At my words Ozpin leaned back in his chair with steepled fingers and seemed to be mulling over what to say. A long few minutes passed before he finally broke the silence.
"Mr. Hound I feel you should be aware of the gravity of the situation we find ourselves in. I am in charge of a school that trains the very best and brightest of us to defend humanity from creatures that have plagued Remnant for millennia. So it is no exaggeration, nor boast to state that I am one of the most powerful and influential men in this kingdom. I also take the safety of my students VERY seriously. Had I not personally witness your vehicle appearing, seemingly out of thin air, through our testing cameras," with a narrowing of his eyes he finished. "This conversation would be far less civil." "That being said" he continued, "I have seen many strange things and I will show a little trust, in exchange for an explanation to your presence here."
Okay this was definitely weird. Remnant? Creatures millennia old? "Look. All I know was I was driving though Barcelona Spain, with a bunch of goons trying to kill me. There was an explosion and next thing I know I'm waking up being chased by monsters, and fighting next to some kids with some CRAZY magic. I watched a girl with a scythe decapitate a giant bird while running up a cliff! So I guarantee, my day has definitely been stranger than yours."
There's a long look between the tall blonde and the old man before, he looks back at me "Mr. Hound? I cannot say I'm familiar with anything you just mentioned. Do you truly have no knowledge of what brought you to my school?"
"Not a clue. I was hoping you knew something."
"I fear I'm just as ignorant."
"I believe you."
"You're awfully quick to trust us, Mr. Hound."
I couldn't help the snort that escaped, "oh I don't trust anyone. But I've never heard of magic taking people to other worlds, and I haven't seen anyone here with any reason to bring me here." That and the heart rate monitor installed in my eyes showed no discernible change in his pulse or breathing. This man had a hell of a poker face. To be fair so did the blonde, but here beats per minute betrayed her. She was nervous. "So where does this leave us Ozpin? Plan to lock me away and study me?"
"Actually young man," the older man said with a growing smile, "I was more curious about how you joined my students quite easily in combat. Tell me, have you received any formal combat training?"
I can see on my HUD that Glynda's heart rate climbs even higher as she listens until finally, "You can't be serious Ozpin! We know NOTHING about this man! He has no training or experience! On top of that since when does Beacon just begin taking in every stray we find?!"
"Was that a pun about his name?
"Do NOT attempt to change the subject!"
I think I get what he's driving at, "Cards on the table? I served 3 years in the army. Your turn. What do you want?"
Ignoring the irate deputy to his right, the man in green leaned forward with a conspiratorial grin. "Young man I find myself wondering if fate has brought you to my doorstep as a potential student."
"And why would I want that?"
"For starters, protection. While I'm more...open minded on strange occurrences, many here would not believe or trust one from another world. Secondly, a place to stay and a small stipend so long as you maintain the academic standard. With some leniency of course."
That was...honestly tempting. Not like I had a lot of options here at the moment, not like I had anyo-...anything waiting home for me either. "What happens if I decide I want out?"
"I would never force a man to fight the Grimm, Mr. Hound. Should you find a way to return home you may go in peace at any time."
Not what I meant, but I could work with that. "Fine, I'll give it a shot if you're willing." Oh Glynda was fuming. But it seemed the boss man had made up his mind.
"Excellent! I'll have a cover story made up immediately! Myself and Glynda will handle the necessary paperwork with you tomorrow. For now, let me show you to the quarters you'll have here for your time here at Beacon."
Such a generous offer would have normally rang every alarm bell in my body, but after the day I'd had? Maybe I was being stupid, but I wanted to see what this place was like. After a silent, lengthy walk to another part of the building, I found myself in a long hallway with doors on either side. As we reached the room Ozpin had in mind, he handed me a small device with a screen. "Is this a cell phone? I asked incredulously. I hadn't even heard of anyone carrying a device in decades.
"This is your Scroll Mr. Hound. It will serve as a communication device as well as provide access to the facilities here at Beacon. We will see your proper accounts are set up tomorrow." With that he proceeded to knock and promptly open the door and I'm being stared at by 4 sets of shocked eyes. Each belonging to the girls from earlier. The team the little one was placed in charge of. "Ah team RWBY, I have a last minute addition to your team roster. Mr Hound, will now be a student here. We can handle the tiresome naming conventions at a later date. Lets say...graduation day?"
Now I'm fast. Really fast. But with everyone caught staring at each other in shock, I don't think any of us could caught that old man as he moved out the door with a jaunty step, and a wave. "Goddammit old man..."
