Summary: The day he was supposed to start training his One fall All with All Might, Izuku saved a boy from getting killed by his girlfriend and got himself hurt in the process. Though it gave him new friends, the instinctive act of heroism also got his three high school years of prepping for Yuuei University tangled up in the mess that was the world of devils, angels and fallen angels…

The Highschool Hero

Chapter 3

"Alright, quiet down and listen up!" The Mineyama hero demanded loudly when the group of first year hero candidates started chatting among one another to discuss the trials that they had to do to prove themselves, making them settle down and turn their attention back her before continuing "Remember that you are encouraged to use your Quirks, but do not necessarily have to. However, you can try to be a little creative. I will give you a bonus score if you do. Your scores will stay permanently to your final records, so make sure to give it your all."

"For the first trial, you will all do the gripping strength test, since we have enough equipment for everyone. From the second trial onward, we will do it one by one or two by two."

And with that, Takeyama began handing out the handgrip dynamometers to the students from a box that was put on the table next to her, letting them take it before returning to their position to do the test. Izuku got his dynamometer after Ochako, swallowing nervously as he looked at the device that he received from the teacher before returning to his position. Izuku had a feeling that he could get good score if he used One for All at 100 percent power, but doing so would break his whole hand, making him unable to do the other trial.

'Everyone will use their Quirks to get abnormal records. Meanwhile, I could still send myself to hospital again if I use my Quirk carelessly, and fail to do the rest of the trials. I need to do this smart.' Izuku thought to himself as he put his hand into position and started gripping. Around him, other students had started gripping their own devices and showed the numbers to their friends, with Takeyama working to each and each and every one of them to start scoring based on the results.

"Not bad. Not bad."

Takeyama nodded her head slowly while writing onto the list. A particularly bulky student with animal features got over half a ton grip, making the students around him gasp and look at him in awe.

Eventually, Takeyama reached Izuku and Ochako, who then showed her the number on her dynamometer "25kg. You do okay. What about you… Midoriya Izuku?"

She then asked Izuku after taking a look at his photo and checking it on her list.

"Here, sensei."

With that, Izuku showed Takeyama the result on his dynamometer, which displayed the number '59kg'. While it was nothing compared to some other students, who used their Quirks to get extremely high marks like the mutant student, it was still above the required gripping strength for healthy high school students his age. However,.

"59kg, huh? You did not use your Quirk?" The blonde teacher asked.

"Uhm, no, I did not, sensei." Izuku shook his head, making Takeyama nod her head in understanding before noting it down and leaving to check on the last group of students.

"Oh wow, you are strong, Deku-kun." Ochako commented with an amazed smile after leaning forward and taking a look at the number on his dynamometer, making Izuku blush and start fumbling as he tried to strike a conversation with her, not noticing Bakugou glaring at him in annoyance from behind.

"59kg, that is quite good for a high school student, no?" Rias asked after hearing the pro hero teacher speaking out Izuku's result with the spell that she and Akeno were using to enhance their already strong hearing even further so to not miss anything.

"He also did not use his Quirk." Akeno pointed out in interest, as she sat watching with her best friend.

"I think he's holding himself back from using his Quirk so he doesn't risk not being able to complete the rest of the challenges. If he can do well normally then it's a good strategy in the long run. There is really no stake here besides a good final record right off the bat." Rias pointed out, reminding Akeno of the severe injuries that Izuku had suffered. It had been quite clear to both girls that he had broken his right arm and legs himself using his Quirk to fight off the fallen angel Raynare and save Issei, believing that the cause had been the recoil of the tremendous power that he had unleashed.

While it was not rare for some Quirks to have heavy drawbacks that severely affected the users, it was their first time learning about a Quirk that hurt the user that badly.

"What is his Quirk even?" Akeno could not help but ask, making Rias shrug her shoulders before saying.

"Let's hope that we will get to see it in a bit." Rias said, before looking up when her eyes caught a glint. It did not take long for her to spot the familiar thin figure of Toshinori Yagi, who was looking into school with binoculars and eating a sandwich while standing on the rooftop of the building just outside the school gate. If she did not know any better, she would think that he's a pervert spying on young high school girls, but his attention appeared to be focusing solely on Izuku, which brought a smile to her face because the man seemed to care a lot for his student.

And so for the next half an hour, Izuku and the other first year hero candidates went through a series of physical trials, including standing long jump, repeated side steps, seated toe-touch, and sit ups… all of which Izuku was able to get good scores in thanks to the 10 months of physical training that he had done to be a suitable vessel for One for All. He did not know how well he did compared to the rest because Takeyama did not tell them their scores, but he had a feeling that his results were among some of the top of the students whose Quirks were not tailored-made to do well in each trial.

Ochako was only above average in the other trials, but she did exceedingly well in the standing long jump test, using her Quirk on herself to float in the air and landing outside of the sandbox, thus giving her bonus score for clearing the sandbox and creativity even if it left her feeling a bit nausea afterwards. Bakugou was the same for the test, as he used two explosions from his hands to launch himself into the air and kept doing so until he was halfway across the schoolyard, where he laughed like a maniac in celebration despite the fact that Takeyama just gave him the same score as Ochako - minus one point for blowing up the sand, getting them in her eyes and dirtying her costume.

But after the push up test, it was time for the 100 meter dash, something that many students were excited for as it was a chance for them to truly compete against one another and improve their overall scores.

'I'm first with Kacchan?' Izuku thought to himself nervously as he stepped onto the running track after being called by Takeyama and stood beside Bakugou, who was grumbling in annoyance. To everyone's excitement, Todoroki Shoto was the next to be called up, looking as level-headed as he had been since the moment the session started.

And last but not least was surprisingly Ochako, who did not look nervous in the slightest despite the fact that she was pitching against Izuku and two other boys, one of whom seemed to be hellbent on finishing first even if he had to murder his competitons.

"W-what a coincidence, Uraraka-chan." Izuku said while scratching the back of his head nervously, looking at Ochako as both Shoto and Bakugou fixed their eyes on the running track after giving each other a single, examining glance.

"Yes. We must be linked or something. Let's do our best together, Deku-kun!" Ochako cheered and beamed radiantly at Izuku, making him blush heavily while trying to cover his face in embarrassment, at the same time hitting himself mentally for not being able to say a single word back to her. Some male students did not like what they were seeing and hearing one bit, while the upperclassmen who were watching simply laughed in amusement at the interaction between the two.

"Alright, listen up." Takeyama said loudly before pointing her hand at the device standing at the finish line of the running track "That LIDAR device over there will record your times. Try not to ram into it or hit it with your Quirks when you reach the finish line. I am not paid enough to compensate for such expensive equipment if they are damaged by you kids." The Mineyama hero stated dramatically, making the students excluding Bakugo and Shoto sweat drop, having a feeling that it had happened before.

"Don't get in my way as I beat this half and half bastard, Deku." Bakugou growled as he glared heatly at Shoto, who was keeping his eyes solely on the track. Izuku knew that his childhood friend probably did not think of him as a threat, or even much to begin with, and it made him angry.

"S-sorry, Kacchan." Izuku suddenly spoke up, causing Bakugo and Ochako to look at him. Even Todoroki had to turn his attention to Izuku when he noticed the change in his tone, despite the fact that he still could not shrug off the nervous expression on his face completely "I don't want to lose. So I will do my best to beat you."

"You? Beating me? Hah!" Bakugou laughed mockingly as Deku got into position "You really are losing your mind, aren't you? Fine, I am gonna let you run ahead of me for a bit, Deku, so I can tramp over you."

'I am not going to let you catch up to me as you are now, Bakugou. I analyzed and took notes of everyone who I think is amazing… including you, so I know how fast you are with your Quirk.' Izuku thought to himself as he glanced at Bakugo and gulped nervously before turning his attention back to the running track, calculating the amount of power that he would need to finish it as quickly as possible while focusing and steadying his breathing pattern 'I can run faster if I do it right. Please don't break, me.'

"How are you going to compete against these guys, Uraraka-chan?" A female student asked Ochako, who were tapping the tips of her fingers on her clothes. "They all look so scary."

"Well, I am gonna make my clothes weightless with my Quirk."

'That doesn't make any difference.' Everyone thought in unison while sweat dropping at her innocent answer.

"Alright, you four. On my mark!" Takeyama announced, causing the whole school to quiet down and hold their breaths. "Get set… GO!"

"BLAST RUSH!"

Instantly, Bakugou ran forward at full speed despite having said that he would let Izuku do it, the corners of his mouth curving outwards into a bloodthirsty grin as he built up some momentum before throwing his arms behind him and using the force of the explosions being generated from both of his hands to propel himself forward, launching himself into the air with a vicious cry. "Eat dust, bastards!"

"Hmm."

To his surprise, Shoto suddenly appeared next to him, glaciating the ground using the power of the right side of his body to skate on. Gritting his teeth, Bakugou generated even stronger explosions from his hands to increase his speed, but Todoroki matched him easily by staking ice shards behind him to increase his speed even further.

Before either of them could make their next move, something suddenly zoomed past them at an even greater speed than them, catching the two completely off guard as the winds hit their face and causing those who were watching to gasp in shock.

'Visualize that feeling I have when I use One for All for the first time… and spread it across my whole body.'

Izuku thought seriously as green bio-electricity arced across his entire body, focusing mostly around both of his legs as his control of the current state was not yet perfect. While the amount of power that he was putting into them along with the rest of his body was only about 4 percent of the overall full power, it was still enough for him to be the first to cross the finish line.

"I did it." Izuku said to himself as he dashed his right foot on the ground to stop himself and took a deep breath to power down. "And I am still okay?" The successor of All Might wondered as he slapped his cheeks repeatedly and tested if any bone in his body was broken. His muscles were arching, but overall he felt fine, and it was all that mattered to Izuku.

Shoto was the second competitor to cross the finish line, having recovered and increased his speed to the point that he had almost managed to catch up to Izuku after being stunned by his speed and falling behind. A few seconds after him, Ochako crossed the finish line with a cheer, being the one who had run normally.

Bakugou, meanwhile, was still too shocked to resume running.

"Not bad Midoriya. 8.15 seconds. That is definitely the time to beat." Takeyama announced with a smile as she showed them and everyone else the number on the tablet device in her hand. "You did well as well, Todoroki. You are just slightly behind Midoriya at 8.55 secs. Uraraka, your time is 14.05 seconds, but you beat your record from middle school, so I will give you a bonus."

As Ochako cheered out in happiness and rushed over to Izuku to celebrate with him, Takeyama then turned over to Bakugou and spoke to him with half lidded eyes after he had crossed the finish line.

"Katsuki, your time is 19.15. What are you doin…"

"WHAT THE FUCK, DEKU!?"

"UWAHH!"

But Bakugou did not let her finish asking him, as he screamed out angrily and ran at Izuku with his hand repeatedly generating explosions threateningly, making Izuku cry out with a horrified face before trying to run away much to the shock of those who were watching.

"EXPLAIN YOURSELF RIGHT NOW, YOU LITTLE SHIT!"

The Explosion Quirk user roared, but he was stopped suddenly by a giant hand before he could reach Izuku, which grabbed his whole body and held him still despite how much he was struggling.

"NGAH! LET GO!"

"Stop it right now, Katsuki!" Mt. Lady thundered, causing the whole school to cover their ears while she towered over all of them and every building in the academy, having used her Quirk, Gigantification, to grow to a gigantic size and stop Bakugo with the increased strength that came with it. The sandy blond haired boy cried out in frustration, but once he had stopped struggling, Mt. Lady put him down and shrunk down to her base-height to tell him seriously "I will not tolerate violence among classmates in my class. This is your one and only warning. I will expel you from every hero class Kuoh has if you ever try to intentionally attack another student again."

"The same goes for the rest of you as well, understand?"

"Yes, Takeyama-sensei!"

"Tch…" Bakugou gritted his teeth in annoyance and gave Izuku one last angry glare, which made the boy shudder nervously before snapping his head back and walking away, returning to his positions where the other students immediately backed off from him, not wanting to piss him off even more than he already was.

"You have a history with him?" Shouto asked Izuku after walking up to Izuku and Ochako as they also walked back to their positions, allowing Takeyama to call up the next group for the trial.

"Ah, yeah. He is my childhood friend. We went to kindergarten, primary and middle school together." Izuku answered with a nervous smile "He was pretty much my bully, you see."

"I see… you might wanna change that soon. You just beat him, didn't you?"

He then asked, making Izuku widen his eyes at him in surprise. Before he could say anything in response, Shoto continued while picking up his pace.

"Anyway, I have had my sight set on you now as well, Midoriya Izuku." Shoto started with an aloof smile, making Izuku flinch in surprise before walking ahead of him and Ochako "You seem to be the one to beat here."

"W-why is everyone s-so hostile toward me?" Izuku asked nervously, because it wasn't just Shoto but many other students were looking at him competitively, feeling like he had put a big target on his back the moment he finished first in his 100 meter dash test.

"Not everyone, you know." Ochako giggled and gave him a slap on the back in encouragement, making Izuku flinch dramatically once again with a red face "Plus, having competitions might not be a bad thing as well. It will drive you to work harder, Deku-kun."

"Y-Yeah, I guess." Izuku nodded his head with a small smile.

"What was that just now?" asked Akeno in amazement as she fixed her gaze on Izuku, finally understanding why her best friend was so interested in him "That speed… I thought he had super strength or something similar."

"I thought the same as well, Akeno." Rias replied, glancing at Toshinori who was finishing his sandwich and bringing out from the bag he was carrying a bottle of coke.

She had seen him cheering the moment Izuku seemingly finished 'charging up' and shot forward, having come to the conclusion that the man either knew that his student would finish first from that moment, or he was celebrating the fact that Izuku did not break himself sprinting at that speed while using his Quirk. It also brought her to the question if he might not just be a normal teacher, but the one who was teaching Izuku how to use his Quirk without harming himself.

"Can you look into his background a little for me later, Akeno?" Rias asked, as a prospect suddenly came to her mind.

"Of course, but why?"

"Katsuki Bakugou looked really surprised by his performance, despite the fact that these two have been going to the same schools since kindergarten." The crimson haired girl explained, making Akeno nod her head in understanding.

"Alright, off to the final test, the Ball Throw." Takeyama then announced as a pair of male students carried a basket full of softballs over to her "The balls have trackers attached to them. Your challenge is to throw them as far as you can. The farther the distance, the more points you will earn. Got it?"

With that said, the Mineyama hero began to call up the students to do their ball throw, which went on rather uneventfully. Some were able to pitch their balls further than the others, with Izuku archiving a good 590 meter mark with a little bit of power being put into his throwing arm, which was not something anyone could scoff about.

Bakugou threw his ball with an explosion, so obviously it went incredibly far, topping 800 meters, since he was pissed and unleashed an explosion much greater than normal. However, his result still paled in comparison when Mei Hatsume brought out a literal bazooka and shot the ball over 1 kilometer, leaving Takeyama conflicted if she should give her a high score or not. After learning that the girl put together the bazooka while waiting for her turn, Takeyama decided to give her max point, pointing out the fact that she had a great future in the support department.

"My baby is the best!" The girl screamed excitedly while waving her bazooka around, causing the students around her to panic and duck their heads down.

After going through a number of other students, Ochako was called up last. Stepping forward and receiving her ball from the teacher, the girl simply pressed her fingers against the ball and gently tossed it into the air with minimal effort.

The ball never came down.

"Ah…" Takeyama made a sound as she tried to see where the ball was with a hand over her eyes, before turning her head down to look at her sensor. It flickered through a series of numbers before settling on an infinity symbol, which she then showed to the rest of the class, who cried out in shock. "Her Quirk is indeed Zero Gravity."

"That's amazing, Uraraka-chan!" Izuku cheered excitedly, and it was Ochako's turn to blush in embarrassment.

"I guess that will be it, everyone." Takeyama said after she had given Ochako her score "Your total scores will be given tomorrow when we have our first theory class. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me now. If not, then feel free to return to your class to grab your things and go home. I will see you tomorrow for your first lesson. You did well today, all of you."

"Thank you, sensei!"

THE HIGHSCHOOL HERO

"See you tomorrow, Deku-kun!" Ochako shouted and waved her hand at Izuku while running ahead of him toward the school gate, where her parents appeared to be waiting for her.

"See you tomorrow, Uraraka-chan." Izuku said, albeit with a lower tone as he slowly left Kuoh academy, unable to stop smiling not just because of the fact that it was only his second day at school and he had already become good friend with such an upbeat and cheerful and kind girl, but also because of his performance during the trials from earlier.

He simply could not wait to tell All Might about them.

Before he could leave Kuoh, however, his eyes caught sight of a familiar figure standing near the gate, recognizing him to be Issei Hyoudou. Unlike the last time Izuku saw him, he was dressed in a Kuoh Academy boys' school uniform similar to the one he was wearing with the differences being the red T-shirt that he wore underneath his open dress shirt and blazer, and the blue and white sneakers in place of dress shoes.

"Ah, you are…"

"Oh, yo! Midoriya Izuku." Issei greeted him with a wave of his hand "How are you doing?"

"I am doing well, senpai. Thank you for asking." Izuku answered with a smile, nodding his head to the upperclassman. At the same time, however, he noticed a number of female students leaving the school around them giving Issei disgusted looks, which wasn't a surprise to Izuku as he had heard about his reputation on the first day. "What about you?"

"Yeah, I am all healed up as well." Issei answered with a grin, showing Izuku the area on his arm where Yuuma had slashed him. "It wasn't so bad, so the doctors healed me really quick."

"That's so good to know, senpai."

"Thank you, Izuku." Issei continued while nodding his head at the younger boy standing before him "You saved my life. I would be dead now if it weren't for you. I don't think I can ever repay you enough for what you did."

"Please, don't mention it, senpai." Izuku raised both of his hands and waved them in front of him with a nervous smile "I only…"

"I watched you as you competed in those physical trials during your hero class earlier. You were pretty amazing beating the son of the number 2 pro hero like that." Issei then said, making Izuku widen his eyes slightly in surprise. "I am sure that… you will become a great hero one day, if not the best ever."

The older boy finished with an encouraged smile while holding up his fist, leaving Izuku completely stunned.

It did not matter who he was. What Issei, a civilian he had rescued, was giving him wasn't just gratitude. It was also recognition, something that he had only ever had from his mother and All Might.

With a smile, Issei then asked him, "So, our school will be hosting the annual sport festival in three weeks. Are you gonna participate in the hero tournament?"

"Yes, I will."

"Great, then you have a fan… or one more of them. I will be there to cheer for you, Izuku!" Issei grinned.

"T-Thank you, senpai!"

Izuku exclaimed loudly and bowed his head gratefully at the older boy, who widened his eyes slightly in surprise but ended up smiling at him nonetheless.

"Excuse me, Issei-kun."

Before either boy could say anything more to each other, another one suddenly showed up, approaching them with a smile on his face, appearing to be a handsome young man with short blond hair, blue eyes and a mole underneath his left eye. Like Izuku, he wore the standard version of the Kuoh Academy boys' school uniform, which consisted of a black blazer with white accents over a white, long-sleeved dress shirt with a black ribbon on the collar, matching black pants, and brown dress shoes.

"I am Kiba Yuuto, please to meet you." He then looked over to Izuku and gave the boy a slight bow of his head "You as well, Midoriya-kun."

"What do you want, Kiba?" Issei asked in slight annoyance as Izuku returned the greeting with a polite bow of his own. Since Kiba Yuuto was the academy's pretty boy who was greatly adored by female students and hated by other male students, which obviously included Issei, who was hated by every female student.

"Don't worry, I'm not looking for a fight. I am here on the behalf of Rias Gremory-Buchou. We wish to have a small chat with you." Kiba answered with a smile, making Izuku widen his eyes slightly when he heard the name of the girl who had taken him and Issei to the hospital.

"I see. Lead the way then." Issei said, before looking over to Izuku to grin at him "I will see you later, hero."

"Yes, senpai." Izuku nodded with a grin "Please send my thanks to Rias-senpai as well."

"Will do."

And with that, the two upperclassmen left, making their way toward the old school building. Izuku soon set off himself, the smile never leaving his face as he headed home to get ready for another training session with All Might.

End of chapter 3

Note: And that is the end of this chapter! Yet another early update everyone!

Hope that you don't mind me giving Izuku an incomplete Full Cowl to work on much earlier than canon, since Izuku in this story will have to fight both villains and also supernatural beings seriously much earlier than he did in canon MHA. Plus, I also don't find any need for him to keep on injuring himself during these fights that he is going to have, so I think letting Izuku figure out Full Cowl early is the way to go (not to mention Recovery Girl is not around to constantly heal him, and Asia joins later). Of course for now it is still very much incomplete, but constantly training with All Might should get him perfect this technique and start increasing his upper limit to fight tougher opponents.

The other Quirks of OFA predecessors will still have to wait a quite bit though, unlocking Quirks like Gearshift and Fa Jin now would be overkill.

I also do hope that you like the hints of friendship/partnership that I intend to build between Izuku and Issei. There are many stories, including my own lol, leaving Issei to the side and focusing mostly on the crossover protagonist, but I don't intend to do it with this one. I think I will also focus on his friendship with Shoto (once he finally comes around of course), since I actually enjoy it more than his rivalry with Bakugou in canon MHA (since I do not like Bakugou because he's a bully to begin with, but that might just be me).

What about those little Izuku Ochako moments? I really hope that I am still portraying them well and almost in characters.

And about Izuku's other power to make him and OFA relevant much later on in the universe of DxD, I believe I have had the basic of what it is in my mind. I am not going to spoil anything, but I am gonna give you a small hint: It is related to his still unseen father. The man has a fire breathing Quirk, right? Maybe in the merged world of MHA and DxD, that fire breathing thing is not a Quirk at all.

Still consider an option for Sacred Gear, so keep on pushing me with suggestion. Doesn't necessarily have to be anything too overpowered like the Longinus, just something that works well with OFA is okay enough I guess.

And that's it! I will stop my rant here. As always, I hope that everyone has had a great time reading this story and this chapter in particular. Make sure to drop me a review once you have finished reading! Last chapter I got more than the first one, so I was really happy.

Check out my p/atreon if you can for early access to my works, as well as if you wish to make commissions! Feel free to join my discord channel as well and be a part of my community (the links to both can be found in my profile).

See you in the next chapter!

P/S: For the time being, among the canon cast of MHA, the one will be classmates with Izuku here beside Shoto, Bakugou and Ochako are:

Mei Hatsume (she has been mentioned in this chapter)

Momo Yaoyorozu (on the request of the one who has been helping me with ideas for this story)

Eijiro Kirishima (cause you know, Bakugou)

Fumikage Tokoyami (he's cool af)

Denki Kaminari (he's funny with how his Quirk fries his brain, should make a good comic relief character here as well)

Neito Monoma (he's underaged character imo, and I want to explore his reactions now that he's classmates with some canon class 1A)

Itsuka Kendo (she needs to be there to keep Monoma in check)

Those are all for the time being. A classmate of them from DxD canon is none other than Koneko. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to do so!
