AN: Hello. Sorry for taking so long. I had writer's block, but I'm glad I managed to finish this one. Made for Tumblr user princessquinnella.
Enjoy!
The water in the main pipe went fast. As much as Quinnella wanted to panic because of the water, her body was still numb to sudden movement. It was lucky that Basil held her still against him with his healthy arm and told her quickly how to stay above the water.
"Just hold onto me and move your legs, okay? " he said to her.
Quinnella held onto him all the way as soon as they saw the end of the pipe to the river.
"DAWSON, ELIZABETH, NOW!"
As they came to the end of the pipe, a dark fabric surrounded them tightly. They couldn't see a thing, but they could hear what was going on.
"I can't believe it worked."
"Elementary, dear doctor. I learned this trick when I traveled with my parents. Now, let's go before they come."
They felt how they were carried somewhere. Quinnella wasn't sure what was going to happen, but Basil calmed her down.
"Sssh… It's alright. We will be safe soon." he whispers to her.
Quinnella wasn't sure, but she trusted him. He risked his life to save her. And he was gentle with her. Quinnella wasn't sure what this feeling was, but it felt different. It felt safe like at home in Pixie Hollow, but still, it was something else. Although it was tight in the rolled fabric, Quinnella tried to lean closer to him, hoping to be protected by him no matter what happens next.
They could feel they were carried fast by something big. Basil knew exactly why. It's Toby, who is taking them back to Baker Street.
After some time, they stopped, and they were placed gently down.
"Good boy, Toby." Elizabeth said while Dawson started unrolling the fabric to let Basil and Quinnella free.
Elizabeth came to see how they were before noticing how close they were. "Did we interrupt something?" She joked.
"No." Basil said while getting up. "Next time, you try to be in tightly rolled fabric with someone."
Quinnella looked concernedly at two other mice. By their looks, they seemed to be amazed by her.
"Upon my word… I never thought I would see a fairy for real." Dawson said. However as they quickly see the thorned dress, undergarments under Basil's coat that was over her.
Basil helps her up before leads inside their home while Dawson abd Elizabeth follow him.
"Mrs Judson!'
The mousekeeper rushed as fast as she could. She knew when Basil calls her like that it means there's someone who needs help, as any other than asking for help with the case. As soon Mrs Judson comes to the lounge and sees the poor fairy she quickly rushes to help her.
"Oh you poor dear. Who did this to you?" She asked as she saw the thorned dress.
"Professor Ratigan." Basil answered.
"The Professor? Are you certain?" Mrs Judson asked in shock.
"Certain as she stands with us." Basil said, meaning Quinnella.
"In that case I'll prepare an extra bedroom, the bath and some clothes." Mrs Judson said.
"And something to eat. That fiend almost starves her and then drugs her."
"That despicable fiend!" Dawson said angrily.
"I'm surprised you didn't kill him." Elizabeth said.
"What's your language, young lady." Mrs. Judson said.
"Trust me, I was close to." Basil mumbled. "Mrs Judson, take Elizabeth with you to help miss Quinnella…"
"What about you?" Quinnella asked worriedly. "You got shot."
"What?" Dawson asked and walked close to his friend.
"It's nothing. I… Agh!" Basil tried to say before Dawson touched his right arm and a blood stain appeared.
"Blast it, Basil! You should have told me."
"In what time? When I was wrapped up? Mrs Judson, get Elizabeth out of the room!"
"I have seen blood before." Elizabeth said, before Mrs Judson took her with her.
"Let me help."
"Don't push yourself, miss fairy…" Dawson said.
"Please, call me Quinnella or Quinn." Quinnella said gently. "I could help with the bullet. I have helped animal-talent fairies when one of them was wounded by a bullet."
"Very well then…" Dawson said. "I'll go get my bag." He said before leaving.
Basil sighs as he starts to take off his shirt. Quinnella realized this and came to help him with his wounded arm.
As his shirt came off Quinnella gasped quietly as she saw the scars on his back. Basil could see that. "It's nothing. I have faced that fiend before…" he said.
Quinnella nods before Dawson comes with his bag and starts checking Basil's wound.
"The bullet only scratched you badly. It's not life threatening, but I recommend that you won't move it for a week." Dawson said before banding his wound.
"Dawson! Do be careful!"
"Me?! You go and get yourself nearly shot and drowned, and you're telling me to be careful?! Stop fidgeting!" Dawson said while "And I mean it, Basil. One week!"
"Yes, Dawson. I figured that out. Besides, I believe we have no choice but to stay still for now."
"What do you mean?" Dawson asked.
"Since I rescued Ratigan's "queen candidate" he will be keeping an eye on us to get her back."
"Oh my!" Dawson gasped.
Quinnella looked scared hearing that. She didn't want to go back to that rat. Basil rests his healthy hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry, miss Quinnella. We will get you back to other fairies. You just need to stay here for now until it's safe." Basil said to her.
As he starts to put his shirt on, suddenly he feels two gentle hands going around his chest. Quinnella was hugging him.
"I had almost given up hope anyone would come for me…" Quinnella said in a shaky voice. She almost starts to cry. "I thought that I…"
"It's okay… it's okay…" Basil says to her. "All… all in a day's work, miss… I… I…"
"The bath is ready!" Elizabeth comes informing. Basil quickly moves away from Quinnella and clears his throat. Quinnella looked a bit confused, before going with Elizabeth.
Dawson was putting things back to his bag as he saw Basil looking concerned while putting his robe on.
"Everything alright, Basil?" Dawson asked.
"Huh? Yes, I… I'm fine. I should… get some rest." Basil says and leaves, leaving Dawson all confused. Since when Basil goes to get some rest? Usually he or Elizabeth must insist that he goes to rest, but now…
Basil goes to his room as he closes the door. What's wrong with him? That hug… it felt so… different. His mind is going blank and he can't think logically…all because of a fairy? That's when remembers when he saw her for the first time at Ratigan's lair… No, stop! Don't even consider it. She is a fairy, a never fairy. Which means one day she goes back where she belongs. Plus she is in a way a client. And having a crush on the client is not good for investigation.
Basil tries to lay down on his bed and tries to get some rest, but he still thinks about her. Argh! What's going on?
Quinnella was enjoying her warm bath. She hasn't been able to enjoy that since she was captured. Sure Ratigan has offered her such a luxury, but something in her mind didn't like it so she refused. And considering what he was about to do to her, she wouldn't be surprised if he might have done it in...
Her thoughts were interrupted when Elizabeth came in with clean clothes.
"Here. This is one of my mother's." She said, showing a lovely white nightgown. "I know you probably feel uncomfortable wearing something like this after what that rat almost did to you… According to the book, fairies make their clothes by flower petals and leaves, but I don't think we have any of those…"
"It's alright. I don't mind. It's beautiful." Quinnella said. "Is it okay for you mother?"
"Oh, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. She and daddy are traveling a lot and this and a couple of others were left here." Elizabeth explained.
"You mean you're alone here?" Quinnella asked.
"I'm not alone. I have my uncle Basil. And doctor Dawson, Mrs Judson, Toby…and I even wrote to my friend, Olivia Flaversham."
"Your uncle is Basil of Baker Street, the great mouse detective?" Quinnella asked.
"Yes. Have you heard of him?"
"Only from the fairies in Kensington gardens. They know what happens here with animals, including mice." Quinnella admits. "What kind is your uncle?"
"You mean besides being a detective?" Elizabeth confirms. "He can be difficult as you may have noticed. He is mostly focused on cases, but he does care."
Quinnella smiles at the little mouse. She can tell she admires her uncle.
After some time Quinnella tries the nightgown. It fits well. It's not transparent like the one Ratigan had, but it looked beautiful on her.
"You look beautiful." Elizabeth said.
"Thank you." Quinnella said blushingly.
Soon both left the bathroom and went to Quinnella's new room. It was cozy and Mrs Judson brought her some tea and some cheese crumpets. Quinnella was pleased to be able to eat. That dinner didn't fill her enough, not to mention drugged dessert. But now she felt safe and secure. After eating, Mrs Judson helped to bed and took Elizabeth with her before Quinnella fell asleep. Now that she was safe she was able to sleep without any worry.
