Baker Street 221B ½

Days have passed now since rescuing Quinnella. Nothing has happened since except Basil's arm has healed fully. And no doubt Ratigan's spy was nearby. Well, they couldn't see it, but Basil knew it was there and so did Elizabeth. So far it seems they were waiting for Quinnella to come out. Obviously, Ratigan has ordered them to keep an eye on when they take her to Kensington gardens. Going there to take her, won't do because… well… for a few reasons. One was that they would call the police and then all would be exposed. The second and probably the big reason was Toby. No way he would let meanie mice into his master's house.

Speaking of Toby, it was the second day when Basil introduced Quinnella to the Basset hound. Quinnella was a bit afraid at first because she wasn't an animal-fairy like Fawn and she wasn't sure if domestic animals would be counted. Luckily Elizabeth was there too and showed that Toby is nice. Toby gave a few sniffs at Quinnella before giving a big lick at her. While there Basil explained that a human named Sherlock Holmes lived in Baker Street and Basil told how he usually came up to listen to mister Holmes when he told his cases to his friend Dr Watson.

After some days Elizabeth asked Baker Street Irregulars to bring leaves. They were a bit confused at first, but after swearing secrecy and when they learned about the fairy they were ready to help out. Basil also asked them to keep an eye on Kensington gardens if they spot Ratigan's goons there as well.

Meanwhile, it became obvious that Quinnella needed a place to work. Especially when she started to collect things she finds. Of course Basil put a rule to her not to go up and take things from mister Holmes, but most of all things she found are from the street or from the garden bench. That's when Elizabeth suggested building a workplace for Quinnella in the garden bench and disguising it as a rock decoration so humans won't see it.

Today was the day it was done and thanks to Mrs Judson's permission it was located between Basil's and Elizabeth's rooms just in case. Of course, that meant that they needed a door to get there and Basil suggested it can come through his room. So his bedroom window got a bit bigger as a door.

In the evening, both Basil and Dawson were drinking tea near the fireplace while Elizabeth was with Quinnella. Since it was calm, Dawson decided to talk about "the elephant in the room".

"Basil?"

"Mmhmm?"

"I believe I know what's troubling you."

"What do you mean?"

"You hardly eat, your words get cut in the middle, same goes when you play your violin, and you one time almost shot an arrow at me."

"You once suggested aiming at a grape on your head…"

"You also almost shot an arrow at Elizabeth! Be glad she dodged it in time." Dawson said.

Basil sighs deeply. He should know better. Dawson is a doctor after all. He would notice unusual behavior.

"Could all of this have to do with a …certain fairy?"

Basil spit out his tea from his mouth with those last words. "Miss Quinnella? Don't be ridiculous, Dawson! First of all, she is a neverfairy. She needs to return back to her own kind before winter. And second of all, I'm not…"

"Then do explain why your unusual behaviors began exactly when she arrived?" Dawson asked. He may not be the greatest detective like Basil, but he sure has learned something from him.

"Oh, like you don't find her attractive?"

"I do. Miss Quinnella is very attractive. I wouldn't be surprised if all Ratigan's goons were goo-goo-eyeing her." Dawson said. "But as a doctor, I can easily tell if someone is falling for someone."

"I'm not falling for her!" Basil said as he stood up from his chair.

"Well, she sure is," Dawson said as he drank his tea.

"What?"

"A couple of days ago, I heard her talk with Elizabeth about you," Dawson said. "Well, Elizabeth mostly talked about your cases and I'm pretty sure I saw her blush when she asked something about you."

"Like what?" Basil asked.

"Well… she asked if you are 'taken'?" Dawson said.

"What Elizabeth said?"

"That you don't have anyone special in mind. That in her opinion it should be someone who can handle your habits… in which I agree… and that so far she is the only "girl" in your life now."

Basil wasn't sure how to react to that. In one way she is right while on the other hand, he wishes she wouldn't have answered at all.

But… is she really falling for him? Why didn't he notice it? Or maybe he has but hasn't paid much attention. Hasn't? Oh no! This is not good. He always pays attention to every detail. But hasn't noticed if she was falling for him? Basil groans and goes to his room again.

Once in his room, he picks up a pillow and groans loudly on it. After letting all out he lays down looking up at the ceiling. Could the doctor be right? Was he falling for her? But he can't! She is meant to return back to her own kind. They can never be…

His thoughts were interrupted by a small sound of rain which was starting. But then he also heard someone singing. He gets up from the bed and goes to see through the glass door.

Outside Quinnella has come outside as she has noticed the rain. After over a month she couldn't fly because she had no pixie dust anymore. Luckily, in Kensington gardens Queen Mabs hold some dust for the emergency. But it was too risky to go there now. Usually any fairy avoids rain because their wings get wet and they can't fly. But in Quinnella's case, since she didn't have Pixie dust little rain wouldn't hurt. Also, her dearest fairy friend is a water talent fairy named Raindrop. The rain gave little comfort remembering her friend so she started to sing while dancing a little.

She looks so beautiful as she dances under the rain. She didn't care as her clothes were getting wet and stuck against her body.

The view was… captivating to Basil. The way she smiled, the way she danced, the way her body… No no no! Stop it!

Luckily then he heard Elizabeth cheer and jump into the puddle which brought his focus back. Quinnella giggled as the little mouse girl was jumping from one puddle to another. Since they are hiding in the flower bench the puddles were more of mud puddles, so Elizabeth got herself and some of Quinnella's dress covered in mud.

Basil sighs, takes his robe off, and goes outside and picks up his muddy niece.

"You're sometimes so childish, you know that?" He said to Elizabeth.

"But mud is good for the skin." Elizabeth smiles.

"Skin yes, but not to fur. Your mother got so muddy as a child we had to almost cut her hair." Basil said while carrying giggling Elizabeth inside like a sack. Quinnella giggles more at that and follows them inside.

Basil asks Mrs Judson to prepare the bath and she didn't need to ask for a reason when she saw muddy Elizabeth.

"She is coming to you, Mr Basil." Mrs Judson said. "There were times you came all dirty and messy after your cases."

"Just get the bath ready, please." Basil said and put Elizabeth down. "And something for Miss Quinnella to wear while her dress is washed." After that goes to his room to shut the glass door.

As soon Basil closed the glass door of his room, he took a good look at himself. It was a good thing he took off his robe. His white shirt and vest got messy by mud after carrying Elizabeth. He probably should take a bath and change clothes too. He went to his closet to look for clean clothes before he remembered that Quinnella hadn't finished any of her newest clothes yet. And now that her dress must get washed, she needs something to wear. Basil picks one of his shirts for her to wear before walking to her room.

The door was slightly open so when he entered it didn't make any noise. But as he entered, he was shocked by what he saw. There stood Quinnella, removing the last piece of her clothes as she stood naked there.

As she notices him, Basil quickly looks away while blushing.

"I… just came to give you this," he said and offered one of his shirts.

Quinnella picks it up gently and holds it in front of her to cover herself. "Thank you," she said gently.

Basil gives a quick nod before leaves while closing the door. He hurries to his room, closes the door, and stands behind it breathing heavily. He couldn't think clearly. The view he just saw now was stuck in his mind. He just saw all of her. Every curve while water drops fall down her skin. His body was reacting to this. No, no no no… he can't! The image of her crying and begging Ratigan to stop as he was going to….

Basil's hands went into a fist and hit the wall. He takes deep breaths as he collapses on the floor. He won't become like Ratigan, ever. Even if it means denying something from himself.
