It's Like.. I know what i want to write, and i come to my docs to write it, and i just sit here going "Do, Do, Dododo, Potato!" So.. I've been writing this one for days :D
Curlywitch14: Rotten Luck, Yes! Hopefully in time that will change!
Dominiclucas2000: Thanks! You too, pal!
Verucabeyotch: You did not just call Agent Mr.. That just sounds wrong on so many levels! I'll consider it, I won't use him per say. But, I'm sure i could slip in some references or life like ness. Also, I'm an Insomniac, I do my best writing at night! (As shown here, its almost 1 in the morning!)
Guest: Hi, No Name! Yea, I thought the witching hour was the hour after midnight. According to the Catholic church, 3-4 am was also known as The Devil's Hour. They Forbid activities to be carried out during this time, This was while there was a major fear of witches in Europe! I couldn't find anything on -why- the witching hour is between 12-1 however. (I did however find that the witching hour theoretically can be any hour between 12-4am, its just those two time slots seem to be most popular)
Thanks!
Chapter 6: Detention
Hecate had wanted the entire day to go perfect, and then Ethel got hit in the head by a flying Spoon! The worst part was that it was done by Mildred. Truthfully, Hecate had not known how to approach it. In the end, she had decided to treat her no differently to This time last year, And deal with whatever emotions the child may have later. Something she was quickly realising was, Mildred saw one failure as being a complete failure. But, Hecate had to remember one important rule. Favouritism does no good to anyone. Seeing as she had spent the holidays away, she hadn't been able to sort the Potions Lab. So, When her only two Detentionees came to see her after school, She knew exactly what they would be doing.
The Knock came at her door, and Hecate could already feel the headache rising up. "Enter!". The door slowly opened to show a Sorry looking Mildred and a less sorry looking Enid. Hecate glanced at the clock, they were exactly on time for once. "I want -ALL- The Ingredients reorganised in alphabetical Order, while simultaneously being colour Coordinated based on what Type of Ingredient they are" It was a task that she alone would get done in two days. But, She was completely expecting it to take Three Days with these two. She held out new coloured Labels, with a pen each. "I'm not expecting you to get it done today." She added in for good measure, the last thing she wanted was for them to rush and get it all wrong.
Enid Took the paper and pens, while Mildred Muttered "Yes, Miss Hardbroom". The two girls went over to their desks, setting down the paper and looking around somewhat confused. Hecate moved over to her desk, pickling up her pen to continue her work. Although she was Monitoring, she didn't want to seem like she was watching their every move. She had the fullest faith in Mildred, especially while she was in the room. Despite that, she couldn't help but sneak glances. Mildred Looked deep in thought, Like there were clogs moving in her head. "Enid" She eventually spoke, looking at her friend. "You grab everything from the Left Side, I'll grab everything from the right side. Just put them all out onto the desk" To Hecate, it sounded like she was about to make a mess. But, She sounded so sure of herself, there must be a plan behind it. She focused on the Paper she was Marking, A Second year's Summer Assignment. As she corrected so many things, she listened to the sound of bottles clinking together.
"Now we've made a mess, what's your plan?" Enid Asked, Sounding not at all pleased. She wouldn't be anyway, She Hated detention. Yet, kept ending up back here.
"It's Simple Really" Mildred spoke with Confidence. "We will label them first. Then We can sort them into Alphabet order as we go, then we can put them back.. We're less likely to muck it up that way". Hecate couldn't help the small smile. Mildred's plan brought her back to the second day they were stuck together. After Mildred had asked for Hecate's Help with sorting. Hecate had thrown all the clothing onto the bed, folded them into piles of items, then put them away. She'd told Mildred it was far more Efficient in the long run, It seemed off all the things the young witch decided to remember, that was one of them. Hecate couldn't Help but find it Endearing, and somewhat sweet. Momentarily, the anger she felt had drained away.
She Listened to the Bottles click as they got picked up, labelled and placed back down. She could hear Mildred's small Humming as she thought things Through, And Enid's sighs and groans. Her Marking was Interrupted by a knock at her door. "Enter!" She commanded with far more Volume than Intended. In came a distressed looking Miss Bat. "I'm terribly sorry, Hecate" It seemed she didn't notice the other students there. In all Honesty, Hecate didn't mind it around Mildred. However, perhaps not while she was in detention. "There's a Problem in the Arts Corridor!" She sounded utterly surprised. When Hecate looked towards Mildred and Enid, who immediately looked back down to their work. Miss Bat let out an astounded "Oh!" Before following on with a question that Hecate only dreaded "Should i sort out the Issue then?"
"No, Miss Bat. I Hardly think that will be necessary" Hecate placed her pen down and walked to the door to follow Miss Bat out, Before she left however she quickly turned to Mildred and Enid. She spoke in a low Whisper that she knew struck fear. "You will Continue your task, you will not step even an inch out of place! If You insist on causing trouble, I will be adding not one, but two weeks onto your detention. Am I understood?" She Pointed a finger out to really emphasise it. The Two girls nodded meekly, as if shocked that she'd expect order. She slowly closed the door behind her, Walking with Miss Bat at a swift pace. She Decided she'd deal with Maud Spellbody sneaking into her classroom after she left, later. For now, She'd Pretend she saw nothing. If Maud wishes to spend time in detention, then detention she will have.
She Had to suppress the sigh as she saw Sybil Hallow and her gang of Clowns facing off against some Pentangles Students. And A Turtle, It seems. "What" She yelled out, Pronouncing her 'H' in her usual fashion, "Is Going on here?" She looked to Clarence. If anyone was going to tell her straight, it was that Witch.
"Well You see.." Sybil Started, Hecate raised her hand to silence her. She wasn't who she was asking.
"Sybil Messed up a Spell in Art, Annabel and some of the other Pentangle students said she couldn't get a spell right if she tried." Clarence looked to the Turtle then back to Miss Hardbroom. "She proved them wrong". Honestly, When she was Thirteen, It would have Made Hecate laugh. It was good the youngest Hallow was sticking up for herself, However, She'd of preferred it to not be on the first day of term against a Pentangles student. She swore the kids were doing this on purpose.
"Sybil Hallow.." She addressed the Young Witch. "Turn her back this Instance" Depending on How well Sybil Managed it, Depends on how harsh a detention she got. After all, Sybil wasn't known for her spells.
The Young witch held out her hands. "Hiccity, Biccity, Turnith this Turtle, Back into a Witchith!" A Slight bit of sparkle game out of her hands, but nothing more. Hecate had never seen such a poor spell!
"You'll spend the rest of the week in Detention with Miss Bat." And that's what Miss Bat got for disrupting her own detention. "Off You go" She spoke as she stepped up to the Turtle. "Once A Witch, Now has Switched, Turn her back and stop this Glitch!" She commanded Watching as the Pentangle turned back into herself, Though a more red faced self. "Off with you all, or you'll be joining Miss Hallow in detention" That got the students moving.
With that out the way, she could go back to her own detention. Hoping all three students to still be there in one piece, and actually getting something done, or so help them.
Soooo I also Have news.. Next year I'm going to be going back to college to retake my GCSE English. I got an E in school, so never passed it. I went to collage and managed to get my Level 2 (An Equivalent), But i'm looking to go back and actually pass my GCSE next year.
