The two got into the car and drove off to the airport. That day was kind of cloudy, the sun was shining less than usual. Lilo stared out the window, everything she knew passing before her eyes in some speed.
"Hm...Will we be able to put the car in the airplane?", she asked. "No", said Cobra. The rest of the way they didn't really talk much, Lilo was just staring out the window, feeling sorrowful about leaving her hometown for the first time without her sister and instantly going to a large city.
Every now and then she'd feel that very familliar lump in her throat that made her cry. She kept it inside though, kind of beliving she couldn't cry in front of the social worker. That was also the reason for no comunication.
Finaly, they came to the airport and Cobra went to open the door for Lilo. However, he wasn't prepared for what he saw. There she was, her head down, not moving an inch. What she was really doing, was building up all the sorrow and all the tears inside her.
"Lilo?". No response.
"Lilo, we're here, we gotta go". Nothing.
For the first time, Cobra frowned like never before. He quckly picked her up, closed the door, and ran into the airport. "One ticket for L. A., please, quick!", he demanded, feeling anxcious. "What's wrong with the kid?", the employee asked, giving him the ticket. "Don't know, she's not well, so we gotta hurry!", said Cobra, paying the ticket and running to do all of the airport stuff.
When he had to do the luggage check-in though, he was astonished. "I forgot her back-pack in the car!", he told the employee, "Can you just let us in without it?". The employee sighed in annoyance, "Fine sir, but please give me your passport, I guess it'll count for both you and the girl".
Once he was done with everything, he sat and waited for the plane. He sat Lilo next to himself. "Ok Lilo, please look at me", he said. She turmed her gaze towards him, her eyes wide. "I know it's hard for you to talk right now, but listen", he started, "When we come there, get into the group they send you to, follow the rutine they give you, and, most importantly, don't worry about this. I'll explain it to them, ok?". Lilo just nodded.
The lump in her throat kept coming back to her every now and then, even she didn't know why. Until then she was afraid of talking, in case she broke down. But now, she wanted to say something, just utter a single word. The lump didn't let her, though. It was as though it was cutting her throat slowly and painfully. Lilo bravely dodged the lump like a voomit that had to come out.
Finaly, the plane arrived and they went in. The flight lasted for about five hours Lilo handled with so much pain and effort. She'd remember those five hours as one of the hardest and heaviest. Once they arrived and went out of the airport, Cobra called the taxi.
"Burbank orphanage, please, near the movie lot", he demanded and they drove off.
Burbank? The movie lot? Am I going to Hollywood or something?
"That's the subburb of Los Angeles", said Cobra, since she gave him a confused face, "And there's one of the movie lots. I bet you guys are going to visit it". Lilo rolled her eyes. She didn't want to do anything with Hollywood right now.
She looked out the window and saw a yellow and blue water tower with a WB logo on it. That confused her even more. Before she could ask herself, they passed it by. Soon though, they stopped.
The building looked like any other of those back in Kokaua, since the buildings were short there due to a rule that they can't be higher than palmtrees. That was another strange thing, Lilo tought it was going to be a huge one. This was kinda too small for an orphanage.
"Ok Lilo", said Cobra, "This is it. Your section". She looked at him, confused again. "Yes, you're devided", was all he said. Lilo just brushed it off. He opened the door for her, "Be careful, ok?". She nodded and ran off. "Bye Lilo!", he yelled after her, waving a hand. Lilo quickly turned around and waved back, then continiued running.
Once she left, Cobra looked at the paper the adress was on and gasped.
They gave him the wrong section.
Meanwhile, Lilo had already reached the building. It looked like a small school. Lilo opened the door and went in. There was a hall she had to go trough. It was dark and empty, just like any other in such places. Lilo started trembling a little, seeing such a frightening sight. The only light source was that from outside. Still, she clenched her teeth and ran through.
She heard some noises in the distance, so she assumed she had to come to the end of the hall. Once there, Lilo knocked. A kind lady opened the door. "Oh, hello there! You must be...". All of a sudden, the little Hawaiian girl locked eyes with...her rival.
"Hello? Something wrong?", the lady asked. "Yes ma'am". The lady jumped and glimpsed at her right. Out of nowhere, the orange headed girl was standing right next to her. "This girl is a freak", the girl continiued. "Mertle! How dare you say that?!", the lady exclaimed. "Excuse me!", said Mertle, "She came to a wrong one!".
Lilo backed away and looked at the sign above. What was written there, shoock her to the point she almost collapsed unconcious.
Bad behaved children section
She started running as fast as her legs could carry her. She exited the building and headed towards the direction of that water tower. The only place that came to her mind. There, she'd find a place to stay and the guys from the studio would take care of her. She'd finaly be able to talk and tell them to call her sister.
As she ran, she couldn't stop the terrible flow of memories.
Her on the beach with her complete family. Her dad starts tickling her and she turns to her sister, everyone is laughing and having a great time.
The day her parents were gone. Her waking up in the middle of the night and hearing her sister's cries.
The day she came to her hula class and found her friends with her bully.
All the insults she had heard during her small life. Lilo felt like she was dying of fear. She didn't watch where she was going when all of a sudden-
"Oh, sorry! Are you ok?".
