Dr. Scratchensniff sighed as he came back to his office and dialed the number. "Hello?", a female voice could be heard on the other side. "Dot", said Scratchy, his voice a mixture of relief and worry, yes, two opposite feelings, "They're ok and safe, you don't have to worry".
Dot sighed with pure relief, "Great, thanks for telling us". After saying goodbye to him, she hung up and turned to her brother, "They're fine". The moment she said that, she felt like something was lifted off her shoulders. "That's mostly important", said the oldest, "Should we tell them?". "What?", asked Dot. "That we called Scratchy".
Dot frowned. That seemed like the hardest question ever at the moment. If they told them, they'd get suspicious and maybe overreact. On the other hand, if they didn't, Lilo and Wakko would keep them in suspense until something real bad happened, probably. Finaly, she sighed, "Not a good idea, you know". "Ok".
Meanwhile in his office, Scratchy dialed another number. "What?", an annoyed male voice could be heard this time. "T.P., I just wanted to infoorm you zat Lilo und Wakko-". "Ugh, don't even mention them! I've already told you to bring them over to my office!", and with that, the CEO hung up.
Tension. That was all they felt while still sitting on that same bed, still curled up. Tears were still streaming down Lilo's face. What was so wrong with this place? Why couldn't they understand that what they were doing to Wakko was unfair? At this point, she was annoyed by the CEO's reaction. And by Mertle's. Actually, Lilo didn't even know how she felt anymore. She cried because of shame. She was scared by the fact Wakko was injured and how Mertle had caused it. And annoyed by the whole situation at the same time.
"Ok guys", said the nurse and they both looked up to see her standing in front of them, "Tell me everything please. What happened after you left the hospital?". At first neither of them had a will to talk. They were tired of everything, especially of emotions. Finaly, Lilo spoke, "I was so sorry for Wakko's situation. I think that can explain everything".
The nurse frowned, "I know how you feel...then what happened this morming?".
That question...it was like a locket to her mind. Lilo suddenly felt her mind close, she didn't know what was happening around her anymore. She didn't even know where she was. Who was there. The only thing that was on her mind at that moment, was danger.
"You're crying".
She looked towards the direction she heard that from and suddenly, her mind was clear again. She probably just had to move. Wakko was looking at her with worry. She turned her head forward and lifted it up, "It's all my fault!". The nurse sighed heavily, "Alright, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to".
Suddenly, Lilo spotted something on Wakko's leg. A white dot. "What...is this?", she slowly asked. Wakko looked down and just stared at it in shock. Was he really...no, it was only a wound. "That's..ink", he said. Lilo gasped. She knew exactly what he was talking about. While humans have blood, toons have ink.
"Why didn't you tell me...?", she asked in shock. "I didn't know...", he whispered, his head hung down. "Your sibs are going to kill us...", said Lilo then sighed, "Don't worry, it'll be fine", she said, placing her hand on the wound, "Are you still hurt?". "No, I'm just tired", said Wakko. "Can we go home then?", asked Lilo. "Of course", the nurse answered, "They're probably worried sick by now".
Once they exited the emergency room, Scratchy got in their way, "I'm really sorry kidz, but...Mr. Plotz needs to talk to you". "We can't", said Lilo, waving her hand, "Please tell him we're unable to come". The psychiatrist just nodded, understanding the situation. So they said goodbye to him and left. "Can you walk properly?", Lilo asked on their way home. "Yeah, I just feel weak", said Wakko. "Here. Hold my hand", she said and he took her hand.
"It would be much harder if we have gone trough this by ourselves", said Lilo. Wakko couldn't agree more. It really was the thing that saved the day. And knowing they both had a problem, it only encouraged them to trust eachother and kill the fear in them. "You had to tell me", Lilo suddenly said.
"What?", Wakko was confused. "What was in that gun...", she said, shivering just at the tought of it. "How could I know?", he asked. "Yeah, you're right", she concluded. The silence in between this small talk was kind of awkward. It was as though she did something real bad. Which she tought so.
The point though, was that her emotions were all over the place, but she didn't want to talk about it. As though she knew Wakko was too tired to even think. She was too, but surely not as much. Once they got to the water tower, they were relieved neither one of the other two asked them anything, which was strange on the other hand.
After both of them taking a nap, Lilo woke up first and climbed up the ladder to Wakko's bed to wake him up. "Wakko...wake up...". "Huh...?", he opened his eyes and saw her standing on the ladder. "Time to cover that wound up", she whispered with a smile. Wakko sat on the bed and she sat next to him. "Did you rest?", she asked.
"Yeah...", he said, yawning. Lilo chuckled, "It's ok if you didn't, we'll be quick and then you can go back to sleep". Wakko nodded in agreement. "Ok...do you have enough streinght to use the hammerspace?", she asked. "I think so...", said Wakko. "Ok", said Lilo, "We need a plaster and-" "That's not a good idea", said Wakko, "If you don't want them to see it". "You're right", said Lilo.
Suddenly, she gasped, "There's a chance of getting sick-" "That's with poisoning", Wakko interrupted her again. "It doesn't have to be", said Lilo, "We have to fix that rather than the wounds". "How?", he asked. Lilo sighed, "We forgot to ask..." "What?" "For the pills" "Oh great".
