Chapter 28: The Season of weddings
Hecate hated weddings. Hecate hated a lot of things actually. But Weddings we're definitely up there along with Ducks. She could not abide by the existence of ducks. For the past week, She'd been keeping an eye on everything and making sure the seats, the flowers, the decorations, were all in place as they should be. She was not a wedding planner, or decorator. She'd even told Ada this.
"Ada, I'm not a wedding planner, Nor a Decorator."
All Ada had said in return was "But then why are you so good at it? Just a few more days, Hecate." Years of managing rowdy school girls is why she got so good at organising. Not because she secretly dreamt of owning a wedding organising service!
Still, she carried on. Even to her eyes, the venue looked beautiful. An arch made of willow, laced with white roses was perfectly placed to catch the sun while the pair said their vowels. Hecate looked upon the rows of white benches, only hoping they would be enough.
Normally, the school would have around 80 students, but with the pentangles students, it's almost doubled. Hecate had gone over the guest list.. 152 Students. 11 Staff members, not including Miss Bat and Mr Rowan Webb.. The Grand wizard was bringing Rothbard, The Sixth and Seventh Witch, along with Three top achieving Camelot students.. Making it a guest list of 170. That's 170 people Hecate had to keep a keen eye on… It was meant to be the holidays, but there was nothing relaxing about it.
Hecate took one last look over the area.. Every White Rose was in the perfect place.. She could rest easy knowing at least that much. She transferred into Ada's office only to be met with some early arrivals..
"Grand Wizard!" She gasped out, placing a hand on her head as she bowed down low. "Well Met."
"Well meet, Miss Hardbroom. I believe you Know Rothbart, Elvira And Farina. The Students won't be arriving till tomorrow, but I thought we may be able to scout the area out beforehand, after all…" His words continued, but Hecate just blanked them out as she looked upon the three arrivals..
It'd been nineteen years since she last laid eyes on any of them.. They are no longer as young as they once were.. Hell, Hecate's not as young as she once was. Twenty-five to forty-four is a difference..
Her Eyes Landed on Rothbart.. Her brother always called him Barty. 'Don't mind batty Barty, he's got many qualities, humour isn't one of them.' Issac had once told her. Back then, Rothbart looked cocky and confident.. Now she saw a withering old man, sad and tired. His White hair falling limp around his shoulders, his eyes once a glowing gold, now a dim amber.. He gave her a polite smile as he bowed to her.
Besides him was Elvira.. She often reminded Hecate of Pippa. Both Bright, Lovely and Free. The Witch before her still looked Lovely. But nowhere near as free. Her once flowing platinum blond hair is now tied in a restricting bun. Hecate understood that better than some. She Bowed down to hecate, giving her a bright smile, that somehow lacked the life it once had.
And Lastly was Farina.. She was a lot like Farina in many ways. They were both angry and bitter at the end of the day. The Ginger witch still looked angry, but it lacked that same bite it had back in the day.. She eyed hecate up and down before reluctantly bowing to her.
These were legends.. The Great Power backing the Grand Wizard.. But suddenly seeing them here, they looked like washed up old wizards and witches. They lacked that spark that made them who they are, the confidence and boldness that demanded attention wherever they went.
The death of her brother and the other Five witches practically killed these heroes..
"We don't want any issues, of course.. Rothbart and the witches have offered to talk to your school, give some stories and inspiring speeches as it were.." It seemed the Grand Wizard was still talking..
"That sounds lovely, Your Greatness. I'll call for an optional school assembly." Ada's voice made its way to Hecate, prompting the witch to look towards her. "If you wouldn't mind showing our guests the way, Hecate."
"Ofcourse, Miss Cackle." Hecate responded. Of Course she minded, but she didn't want to come across as rude towards old friends.. But, seeing them hurt far more than she had expected.
They walked in silence to the Hall, watching students wiz past to get ready for the Speech. By the time they got there, it was almost full already. Her eyes immediately landed on Mildred and co.. She'd have to introduce them at some point.
Hecate stepped up onto the stage coming in front of the podium while the three great ones sat down behind her. "Ladies! You've been blessed with a unique opportunity. Before us, we have Rothbart the Great, Lady Elvira the Seventh, And Lady Farina the Sixth. Attendance is not mandatory.. If you're staying in here, you will do so with the utmost respect, or you will leave." she warned the students. They would not be making her and Cackles look bad. That was not happening today.
She moved out of the way to take a seat. "Thank you, Hecate." Rothbart said as he came to stand before the podium, his voice echoing out to the students. "You are probably wondering why the three of us are here.. Not only are we here to honour the union between Miss Gwendolyn Bat and Mr Algernon Rowan-Webb.. Two shining stars of the Magical Community.. But we are also here to keep you all safe in the time of a Rogue Witch.. Like with Gwydion…" An anger coated his tired voice at that name, a sudden burst of energy overtaking him. "She will fall. Safety will be brought back. And Magic will be put straight. We do not tolerate this kind of threat. Not now, Not ever!"
The Students clapped for him as he coughed slightly, awkward at the positive attention before him. "Are there any questions one might have for us?" After his speech, it was like the energy had drained from him. Returning to the tired old man.
Felicity's hand rose straight up high. "Yes, Child?" Rothbard directed it at Felicity with a polite smile.
"Would it be possible to hear about the time you defeated Gwydion?" Felicity asked.
Rothbart looked back to the other witches as if asking for their approval. He nodded at them, Farina shrugged, and Elvira jumped up. "May I, Barty?"
Farina looked at Rothbart, "Don't you dare.."
Rothbart just grinned in return. "Ofcourse, Dear. Go.. All out." This just earned a Grone from Farina, and laughter from the students and staff that had come to join them. Rothbart sat down, before allowing Farina to get up.. Ready to tell a tale that would kill Hecate all over again.
In a way, she liked knowing people haven't forgotten about Issac, but she didn't like reliving it.. But just this once, She'd listen to what her brother's friends had to say. She'd hear the tale from their own mouths..
Rothbart, Farina and Elvira are all OC Characters, So im trying to give them identifiable personallitys and looks. We all know What Hecate, Mildred and co look like, but im the only one with thease characters in my mind.. So, Iv tried defining it. What do you think of them so far? Do you have a favourt?
