A Little cheeky suprise Chapter.. Happy new year. ENJOY!

Chapter 37: To be a Head Girl

Mildred had been buzzing to see her friends again, it wasn't like it'd been a long holiday but she didn't enjoy spending so much time apart.. The Announcements that day got Mildreds head turning.. She already knew what she wanted to study next year, but another thought plagued her mind.. Head girl.. Surly she'd be rubbish at it.. Clumsy and foolish Mildred Hubble. But she wasnt Mildred Hubble any more, She was a hardbroom, and they seemed to succeed in everything they did.

"Will either of you be applying for head girl?" Mildred asked her friends, now they were sitting in the tower, unpacking.

Enid laughed out loud "Me? Head Girl? I'm just lucky I haven't been expelled.. No way i'll be going for head girl.."

Maud shook her head "I'm unsure yet, I think I'll just focus on my studies next year. Other than the odd incident.. I think I've got enough to get me into college. I don't need to be head girl too."

"Do you… Do you know what college you want to go to?" Mildred asked after a moment.

"Emm.. Not exactly. At first I was thinking of either Primrose or Weirdsister.. But, why limit myself.. Why not try for an oversea's position.." Maud just seemed to be able to think big, and get there. She was like the nicer, more deserving Ethel.

"I'm going for Primrose I think.. They have a great Arts and Music Program Wizards and Witches alike." Enid spoke with so much hope. Mildred didn't have a clue where she wanted to go.. She just wanted to get through this year more than anything else.

"What about you, Millie?" Maud smiled, encouraging her.

"I.. Don't know. I know I want to become a History teacher.. But I'm not sure how to get there." Mildred confessed.

"You could always ask HB, She'll know the way to go.." Maud came to sit by Mildred. "You know.. You asked us if we're going for head girl.. But will you be going for it?"

Before Mildred could answer, Ethel walked in. "Mildred Trouble Hubble for Head girl?" She scoffed, placing her broom under her bed. "Some of us want the school to remain standing."

"Oh, get off it Ethel! Mildred would be a better head girl than you!" Enid bit back.

"Yes, I'm the one who's going to win. There's yet to be a Hallow who's not been head girl." Ethel boosted, as if the Hallow's didn't buy their way up the ladder.. "So, Mildred.." She came down to Mildreds height, as if an adult talking to a toddler. "You might as well not even both.. After all, they'd never allow the worst witch to be head girl."

There was something about the way Ethel spoke to her that just got her blood boiling. Who says she's the worst witch anymore? Who said she can't become head girl if she puts her mind to it? After all, Mildred had already achieved so much in such a short space of time.. Mildred was capable of such much! She knew she was, she had faith in that.

Mildred had replayed Ethel's condescending words over and over again in her head.. Ment to put her down and belittle her. But all it did was fuel a desire to prove herself, to be an equal, and to be seen as something other than trouble! Sure she's messed up, but so has Ethel. And Maud, and Enid.. Hell, Even Hecates messed up! And she's the witchiest witch Mildred knew!

Before long, Mildred found her feet standing before Miss Cackles office, she knocked on it with a sense of purpose.. After all, she was here on a mission. After hearing the familiar call, she walked in..

The room was filled with the teachers in the school, most likely having their first meeting of the new year. "Ah, Mildred. To what do we owe the pleasure?" Miss Cackle said, smiling kindly at her. Mildreds eyes went over the teachers in the room, landing on Pippa, then Hecate, then back to Miss Cackle.. It was now or never.

"I'm here to apply for Head girl." She would be damned if she let Ethel Hallow get the better of her.. She'd been perched on that pedisole for too long! Mildred would not sit back and let her become a dictator of her own design.

Miss Cackle looked.. Quite shocked.. "I.. Mildred.. Are you sure?" Mildred knew she wasn't asking to be rude, she knew how hard it'd been for Mildred, and just wanted to make sure she was doing what she wanted..

Although Ethel's words may have inspired this.. But Mildred truly believed she could be someone that could help this school, guide the new students and make a change for the better.

"I'm sure, Miss Cackle. I've improved leaps and bounds since I first got here.. I believe.. I will do good by this school." Mildred smiled at her, this would be her next step, her next direction.

Miss Cackle stood up, walking round to stand before Mildred, placing a hand on her students shoulder. "Very well, Mildred. All Students who wish to partake in the Trials, Must first have a Minimum of Seventy Percent Overall score, A Teacher to Sponsor them, and have at least half the staff's approval.." It was so they didn't get any trouble makers running for it.. Weed them out at the beginning "You got.. What was it, exactly seventy percent overall?"

Mildred nodded. "Then you'll need a teacher to sponsor you, and then we can hold a vote.. And let you know at a later date." Miss Cackle said, releasing Mildreds shoulder. "Oh.." She leaned in to whisper. "And it can't be Miss Hardbroom, or Miss pentangle.." Well, that put a spanner in the works..

"And.. What does the Sponsor Do..?" Mildred asked, she can't say she took much note of previous years..

"The Sponsor Helps you through your tasks. Guides and helps with training." Miss Cackle Explained.

"I'll be her sponsor, Miss Cackle" A Voice chimed out, stepping forward was Mr Rowan-Webb. "If she'll have me.. It's the least I could do after she brought me back."

"I could do with a wizard on my team.." Mildred had always admired Mr Rowan-Webb, as cooky as he was, he was also a brilliant wizard.

"Then that settles it, Tadpole." He held his hand out, allowing Mildred to shake it in agreement.

All she needed now was the teachers to vote on the matter.. She thought about the staff.. And who may turn her down.. Once upon a time, she would have thought Hecate would have stood in her way. But one look over at her, told Mildred that she'd be rooting for her the whole way. She remained professional in nature, but the ghost of a smile spoke of heeps of proudness towards Mildred..

Mildred was going to make the most of her time here at cackles, after all, there wasn't long left..
