Chapter 16

"I'm not going," Hermione said, her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at some blonde Gryffindor guy whose name, she couldn't remember. The only thing she was sure of was that he was a moron, because he didn't meet the minimum requirements to sit his NEWTs, therefore, he'd had to repeat his seventh year. "Go away, you're breathing my air and contaminating it." Hermione waved her hand, shooing him away.

The boy, who seemed fairly offended, shoved his way back from the table Hermione was occupying in the library before storming off. Now, normally she wouldn't be so rude to a complete stranger. Well, not so openly rude. However, this was the FOURTH boy to ask her to the Halloween Ball, today, and frankly she was fed up.

Unlike the rest of the student body, Hermione seemed to be the only person who didn't care for the holiday. After Lily had told her parents that Hermione was a witch, that is the only thing Helen would dress her up as. Even when she'd desperately wanted to be April O'Neil from TMNT, and that would have been a simple costume, her mom still shoved a pointy hat on her head.

So, no. Hermione did not want to go to some stupid dance.

While going back to scribbling down some ideas for her spell creation assignment that she was doing for Flitwick, Hermione didn't even hold her groan in when she heard the chair next to her scraping the floor as it was pulled out. "I'd suggest not sitting in that seat unless you are not fond of having hair on the top of your head," Hermione warned, not bothering to look up to see who had so stupidly chosen to bother her.

"Well, that would be rather unfortunate, I thought you liked getting your fingers tangled in my hair, but if that's the sacrifice I must make to sit next to my witch, then so be it." Theo said, making Hermione look up from her work. She narrowed her eyes at the cheeky wizard, annoyed with the entirety of the male population at the moment.

"When Draco comes crying to me over his boyfriend being bald, he'll have no one to blame but you," Hermione said, reaching for her wand. Seeing that she was being serious in her threat, Theo jumped from the chair he'd been occupying, backing away slowly holding his hands up in surrender.

"In any case, I just wanted to let you know that we've procured our costumes for the ball. Pansy said that you are welcome to join her, Weaslette, and Luna to get ready in her dorm. Daphne and Stori are going to be there too, but I can't imagine that either of them is going to be as enthusiastic as Pans." Theo said, continuing to inch away, watching Hermione pointing her wand in his direction again. "Anyway, nice chatting with you as always," he threw up a shield, and turned on his heels to run, just as the stinging hex left the tip of her own wand.

"I'm not going to that ball, Theo!" Hermione shouted as the irritating wizard skirted away, turning the corner and disappearing from sight. "There is not a deity out there that could convince me to go!" Hermione reiterated, but the only reply she could hear was Theo's chuckle.
