I DO NOT OWN THIS STORY!
This is a story written by Voltage and was on the Lovestruck app that was shut down due to lack of funding.
I am simply writing the stories from the app out as I prefer to read them this way and nobody has yet to do so.
I have typed this out word for word from the app except for a few bits to help identify people sense there are no pictures to see who is talking.
If you have any suggestions on how to make this flow better, please let me know!
Love & Legends - Saerys Route
Season 1: Chapter 1
(Well, if I get to choose my company...)
I glance over the group, tapping a finger against my chin.
Then I glance past the group, at a lean slab of good looks and indifference trying hard to look uninteresting.
"Saerys, right? I pick you."
"No."
Reiner turns his head to give Saerys a look over his shoulder; I can't make out his expression, but Saerys face turns pleading.
"I am only staying at the castle long enough for the celebration; after that I am leaving town before I draw any unwelcome attention."
"You say that like there is any sort of attention you would welcome, friend."
"Very funny, Iseul."
His tone is sarcastic, but for a moment I spot his lips twitching to mirror the elf's grin.
"Look, this is super interesting and all, but if I'm gonna be comatose in some hospital bed with a cardiac monitor beeping in my ear, I'm not about to take no for an answer."
"Only about half of that sentence made any sense, and frankly I do not think i care much for your rules."
"Saerys." Spoke Lord Reiner.
(That took the mope out of his posture. There's heavy history between these two, I'd bet my left arm.)
"Lord Reiner, there is really no reason it has to be me. she just needs someone who will stay near the castle."
"As soon as the celebration ends I am heading north to..."
He trails off as Lord Reiner turns, slow and even, to look him in the eye.
(If you could watch tectonic plates move, I bet it would look something like this.)
"Saerys, you know I would not ask something like this of you if it were not important."
"It has to be who she chooses, because it has to be someone she will stay with willingly."
"And it has to be someone in this room, because it has to be someone I trust implicitly."
"Someone I would give my back to in battle, Saerys."
Saerys flusters at the praise.
"I suppose, but-"
"And... it would be nice to have you around, again."
"I confess I have missed seeing you around the castle. Would you so this for me, my friend?"
"It would be nice to have my favorite sparring partner around a while longer." says August.
"No one likes my human jokes, and they definitely do not like elven food." chimes in Iseul.
"It is just not the same without everybody here, and you are part of our everybody. What do you say, Rys?" asks Altea.
"I say not to call me Rys. Often. But...fine. If it is that important, I can stay in town a while longer."
(Poor guy looks like a cornered cat. Maybe I can cut him some slack...)
I wave a but, the movement catches August's eye.
"Is something wrong?"
That draws the others back to looking at me.
(Perfect.)
"Is there a bathroom nearby? Y'know, for when it comes up."
Saerys turns those mismatched eyes on me.
At first there's something cold as ice and twice as hard in his expression, but he carefully schools it into something more impassive.
"I am only agreeing to this because Lord Reiner insisted. Please do not make it any more difficult then it needs to be."
(Pretty face, pretty arms, less pretty attitude.)
(Can't have it all even in a dream, I guess.)
(Still, I can't shake the feeling that there's more to him than I'm getting right now.)
(I guess we'll see where the night takes us.)
Saerys ushers me out of the study, shutting the door behind him with a polite nod to Reiner.
Without another word, he sets off down the corridor with just a glance in my direction to make it clear I should follow.
"Where exactly are we going?"
Saerys doesn't look back as he answers, offering only a shrug and a half-turn of his head.
"To find you standard clothes. Different draws notice."
(Does he mean the eye thing?)
Before I can voice the question, Saerys tugs open the door to a bedroom and waves me inside.
"Here. Solaire will find you something more... suitable."
(Suitable, he says. Well I say jeans work with everything.)
Waiting inside the room is none other then the maid, Solai-
"Sophie?!"
"Close! Solaire Lightwing, at your service. Shall we get you fitted?"
(Okay, now I really know I'm dreaming.)
(The resident maid is the spitting image of my best friend.)
"Something... subtle would be best, Solaire."
"Hmm, yes. Something elegant, but still practical."
"Soph-Solaire!"
She grins up at me as she lifts the tape measure from around my waist.
(And just what is she implying?)
Solaire finishes jotting down number and heads into the room's expansive closet to sift through assorted clothes.
The awkward silence of Saerys pointedly not talking to me is mercifully short, and Solaire returns with her arms full.
"These should do nicely for everyday use. Go ahead and try them on!"
I give Saerys a pointed look, and he raises an eyebrow.
"A little privacy would be appreciated?"
"The door is closed already, but I supposed I can lock it if that is what you mean."
"I mean turn around! I don't want you staring at me while I change!"
He rolls his eyes with a huff, but obliges.
The clothes come in a spread of rich earthy tones; dusty beiges and rich rosewood browns.
(Not a bad look, honestly. Surprisingly comfortable, too!)
(Guess the whole "living in a lord's castle" thing has its perks.)
The sleeve buttons are giving me trouble, though. I can't quite seem to get them one-handed.
"Solaire, do you mind giving me a hand with this?"
"Of course!"
Solaire's fingers are quick and nimble, and the sleeves are done up in a moment.
Close as she is, I catch her furtive whisper.
"Saerys, mm? I like the way you think."
Before I can answer, she steps away with a knowing grin.
"All set! You can turn around now."
Saerys turns around to look over my new outfit, and for just a moment his gaze lingers.
There's something in his expression, the slow sweep of his eyes and slight lift of his brows, that says more than simple evaluation.
"Almost."
(Excuse-!)
With deft movements he crosses the room, grabs a cloak I'd somehow missed off the bed and sweeps it around my shoulders.
He fastens it, and steps back once more.
"There. Subtle."
I'm bout to retort, but my stomach cuts in with a complaint.
"Right. Is there somewhere we can get some food? Dream or not, I'm starving."
Saerys turns for the door, beckoning like before with a glance.
Saerys heads down out of the castle and into the surrounding town, and I follow close at his heals.
With the sun fully set, the road ahead is lit only by the glow of the city.
"Watch your step, there is a dip here."
Sure enough, I can just make out a pothole where I was about to step.
He glances back, the faint glow of his irises the only feature set into his silhouette.
For a moment, my breath catches.
(Oh, wow. He wasn't kidding about being different, was he?)
"You have really good night vision, huh?"
"Humans walk like newborn foals in the dark. Come on, we are nearly there."
Finally, the glow of storefronts and lit windows begins to be enough to see by.
(Gods, something smells good!)
"I do not know what the food is like where you are from, but I am sure there is something here that will do."
"Anything hot and meaty; I'd kill for a Chicago dog right about now."
Saerys turn on a dime, looking horrified.
"...You eat dogs?"
"Wh-no! It's a kind of pork sausage. At least I'm pretty sire they're pork."
"Then why do you call it..?"
"Nevermind. Here, try this."
He exchanges a few words and a few coins with a shopkeeper, who spears chunks of spiced and roasted meat on a skewer before passing it to him.
"We do not have any Chicago around here, but we have plenty of hot meat. This is a local favorite."
(So that's where that smell was coming from!)
I take it as gently as I can manage-which isn't especially gentle, I'm starving-and dig in.
It tastes even better than it smells.
"So, earlier you said humans have lousy night vision. What does that make you?"
"Not human. Good at walking."
"I mean what kind of not-human are you? Iseul mentioned elven food, are you an elf?"
"No. And I am the kind of not-human who does not like questions."
(You don't say? I wonder how many other people's dreams play hard to get like this?)
"That reminds me, what did you mean by 'unwelcome attention' earlier? Are you on the run or something?"
"If I were running, you would be alone. I am walking because I am polite."
I bury a frustrated growl in another ambitious mouthful of beef.
(I'm going to get a straight answer out of you, Saerys. My dream, my rules!)
"Will you at least tell me something about you? How about your eyes? I haven't seen anyone with eyes like yours?"
"And you never will."
Something sorrowful lurks in his tone, and he shakes his head ruefully.
"After everything that happened, everything she-!"
Just then, a shout cuts into his words.
A townsperson is glaring at us with gritted teeth, an accusatory finger pointed our way.
"Damned hellspawn, what are you doing in our city?!"
TO BE CONTINUED...
