Hey there. Yesterdy was prahaps the worst day of my life. I'd never been to a funeral before.. There are three Family members that made the day abhorrent. However, it was nice to see a lot of my other relitives for the first time since a bit before Covid started. On a lighter note, It snowed today. Really snowed. It's only just started sticking, but it feels like a sign from above.
With that being said, The last of the Trials! ENJOY!
Chapter 68: Trial Five - Part Two
"Now.. Please welcome.. Mildred."
Hecate had felt she kept her compositor pretty well though this trial so far. She'd quietly helped Mildred that morning, knowing what was to come. She felt out of all the Trials, This one would be the Hardest for Mildred. The Looming dread only gripped harder when Mildred glanced over at her. Mildreds Eyes practically screamed for help as she stood at the Podium, shy and full of nerves. It had not escaped her notice that her little legs were buckling at the knees.
"H-Hi.. I'm Mildred.. Meny.. Meny… Generations ago.. Merable Hubble gave up her magic, and the magic of twelve generations to come.. To restore a Founding stone.. So.. I didn't grow up in a Magical Household." She explained openly, her hands caressing the podium. "I didn't even know witches existed until one crash landed on my balcony.." There was a small chuckle from the crowd, probably around Maud. "I'm not a Perfect Witch.. Nor a Perfect person.." Mildred confessed, moving from behind the Podium to stand to the front of the stage. It gave her a much more down to earth feeling.
"I've made mistakes.. I also like to think.. Iv made some good calls.. More so when it comes round to Agatha." She smiled at that memory, her confidence coming through bit by bit. Making Hecate listen with intensity. "I've learned many things about being a witch.. How to make something go my way, instead of whining about it. Talent means nothing, if you don't put in the work. Keep going till you don't just get it right, but get it perfect.." She began playing with the sash on her belt, but her focus was completely on the crowd.
"As Head girl, I will do my best to make sure every Witch is able to reach -their- fullest potential.. That Cackles will continue to thrive and grow.. That the Pentangles students will be able to live as a part of our school effectively…" She shot a smile at Andrea. "'Cause like me, this school isn't Perfect. But that doesn't make us any less brilliant." She nodded to the crowd. "Thank you." She turned and moved back to her seat.
Hecate felt completely and utterly proud of that girl. She'd spoken honestly and openly. Oh how that girl had grown and Matured. The Hall erupted in Polite claps. "Thank you, Mildred." Ada smiled at the Two Contestants before turning back to the rest of the school. "Over to my Right.." She pointed to the corner of the stage, a Box with a slit in the top stood at attention.
"Is the Ballet Box.. Miss Drill and Mr Rowan-Webb should be handing out the ballets now. Once you have decided and ticked the name you wish to be Head girl, Please place it into the Box. You have until Four O'clock to place your Vote. Oh!" She suddenly remembered something. "The Box is warded, so no magical Trickery can take place with your Ballets. The Next assembly will be at Five. Till then, Strive forward!"
Hecate had to admit, the rest of the day was pure torture. She kept her mind focused on potions, biting off students' heads for their foolish mistakes, and complaining about various issues around the school. It wasn't until Lunch she was able to go to the Ballet box, Placing her own vote. They had been excluded from previous Trials due to their connection, but Ada wanted the Whole School to vote on this topic. A Few years ago, she would've voted for Ethel without a second thought. But that was no longer the case.. She truly believed that Mildred had this school and its students' best interest at heart. For that reason alone, she placed the X by her name, and posted the Ballet. When it came round to the counting, Ada along with Mr Rowan-Webb would be dealing with it. She'd picked his name out of a hat, deeming that a reasonable way to find who shall help her with the task. The rest of them would find out with everyone else.. Hecate Hated it.
She did her best to stay away from those impending thoughts. She hoped so fiercely that Mildred would Win, but there was no guarantee. She knew she'd have at -least- 9 votes. But Nine out of One-hundred and twelve is not a lot..
She watched the clock as it drew nearer and nearer to Five.. Tick.. Tock.. Tick… Tock…Tick…. Tock…. The Noise was driving her insane. Honestly, she'd never been a restless person. It wasn't even for herself. It was ridiculous. Is this what other parents go through? This sense of impending doom for ones Love one was something else Intirally.
She bussissed herself with smoothing her dress and fixing her hair before transferring to the Hall. She was a few minutes early but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Ada placed the Head Girl Sash on the Podium, watching as the girls steadily came in to sit down. This time, Mildred and Ethel will be seated among the rest of the students.
"Welcome Back.." Ada opened up. As the day had gone on, she'd clearly over done herself, a tiredness creeped into her voice. "I would like to thank all the girls who Applied for head girl.. All the Girls who attempted the Trials.. And All the students for joining us on this journey."
She held up the sash. "But it has come to an end.. So, Without further ado, With Sixty-Eight Votes, Your next head girl is.." She paused, probably for dramatic effect. It felt as if the whole world had stopped. Not even a breath could get past the gap in time.. Every second chipping away at the life force of the room.. Hecate found herself hanging onto whatever Ada would say next.. As if it was the most important thing in the world. Well, in this instant, it was.
"Mildred."
And that ends the Head Girl Trials! Lemme know what you think!
