Solas takes the Inquisitor to the Fade. A lot of game dialog, but I wanted to put a few thoughts and words to the scenes. I hope you like it.
"Why here?"
She looked around at the snowy landscape. She followed Solas up the stairs in the courtyard off Haven. "Haven is familiar. It will always be important to you" he said. "We talked about that already" she applied. He led her down the stairs to the dungeon where not long ago she woke up to strange faces, accusing her of being responsible for the tragedy of the Conclave. The same faces she now called her companions and friends.
Solas continued "I sat beside you while you slept, studying the Anchor". She looked up at him and told him she appreciated the company, and him telling her, that she hadn't been alone.
"You where a mystery" he turned to look at her "you still are. I ran every test I could imagine, searched the Fade, yet found nothing. Cassandra suspected duplicity. She threatened to have me executed as an apostate if I didn't produce results"
Ih'tal chuckled "Cassandras like that with everyone". Solas joined her and laughed. They looked at each other for a moment. There was something unsaid, and she knew he had a point by showing her Haven of all places, after a while, Solas walked away, and she followed behind him as they left the dungeon. When they reached the courtyard Solas started talking again "You were never going to wake up. How could you, a mortal sent physically through the Fade?" He took a deep breath and turned towards her again "I was frustrated, frightened. The spirits I might have consulted had been driven away by the Breach. Although I wished to help. I had no faith in Cassandra… or she in me. I was ready to flee".
Ih'tal was amazed that the Dread Wolf admitted to being frightened. She knew Cassandra to be without mercy, but he was Fen'Harel. Her heart went to him. As she, he would have entered a world where everything had changed, along with his powers. Even though her own magic remained strong compared to other mages of this world, she still felt like a part of her was left behind. She knew, this still wasn't the time to tell him about her immortality. For whilst the Elvhen weren't invincible, their concept of mortality was different from the way the city elves, the Dalish, humans and dwarves lived.
"The Breach threatened the whole world. Where did you plan to go?" she asked. "Someplace far away where I might research a way to repair the Breach before its effect reached me. I never said it was a good plan" He turned away from her and faced the Breach in the sky. Holding out his hand he said "I told myself: one more attempt to seal the rifts" he slowly lowered his arm "I tried and failed. No ordinary magic would affect them. I watched the rifts expand and grow, resigned myself to flee, and then… It seems you hold the key to our salvation"
She remembered that day, how the power of the mark burst from her hand, how every fiber of her body responded to the connection. And then… Instant relief when the rift closed. It was as terrifying as it was addictive. She looked up at him and let him continue.
"You sealed it with a gesture… and right then, I felt the whole world change." He was closer to her now. "Felt the whole world change?" she asked him and smiled. "a figure of speech" he replied gently. "I am aware of the metaphor. I'm more interested in "felt"". She couldn't help herself. She moved closer to him and watched him inhale, like he was preparing to get something of his chest. Gently, silently he said "you change… everything"
They were now inches apart. She didn't know why. But she needed to kiss him as much as she needed to draw breath. She kissed him, slowly. Hesitantly at first. She knew this was a line she needed to cross. She needed to know. At first, he didn't respond, but when she was about to draw back, he moved. His hand found her waist and his mouth crushed down on hers. It was her turn to freeze, but after a second, she joined him. It wasn't logical, but it was perfect. Just for a moment, it was just the two of them. No Elvhen, no Corypheus, no Inquisition. Nothing.
They drifted apart slowly. Like neither of them wanted to end this bubble they had created for themselves. "We shouldn't. It isn't right. Not even here" he said and took a step back from her. Reality, like a cold bucket of water was doused upon her. She was conflicted. She knew this wasn't supposed to happen, and that the relationship between him and Mythal still was a mystery to her. She cursed her sister, for the first time, in what seemed like forever. The eternal battle between her sisters wants, now collided with hers. Was she turning into her sister by falling for Fen'Harel and this was acted out in jealousy, or by taking something for herself for once while losing sight of what's important?
Solas regarded her carefully, like he didn't know what to do or say. She concentrated on a less dangerous part of his declaration "what do you mean "even here"?" Solas took the opportunity to change the subject and gave her a sly glance. "Where did you think we were?" Ih'tal looked around and then it hit her. "This isn't real". He looked at her "that's a matter of debate" for a moment she almost swore that he looked hurt at her statement, but it was gone as quickly as it came, so she wasn't sure. "…Probably best discussed after you wake up".
