I DO NOT OWN THIS STORY!
This is a story written by Voltage and was on the Lovestruck app that was shut down due to lack of funding.
I am simply writing the stories from the app out as I prefer to read them this way and nobody has yet to do so.
I have typed this out word for word from the app except for a few bits to help identify people sense there are no pictures to see who is talking.
If you have any suggestions on how to make this flow better, please let me know!
Love & Legends - Saerys Route
Season 1: Chapter 6
(It is too early.)
(And coffee still does not exist in this goddamn dream.)
Saerys got up with the sun this morning, and somehow I let myself be talked into joining him.
(Okay, fine, I mostly talked myself into it.)
"It seems rumor reached the knights that I fought one of the Witch Queen's generals unarmed and unarmored."
"And every single one of them bugged Lord Reiner to bug you to teach them a thing or two?"
"I understand his study was rather more crowded than usual."
We share a light breakfast with the group before heading down to the training grounds, where a group of knights, along with August and Isuel, are gathered and waiting.
(You know, I was expecting them to be unarmed and unarmored for this.)
(I guess it's like strength training and really hardcore padding at the same time.)
They get started just as the sun starts to clear the castle walls.
Saerys gives the group some drills to run through, and travels through practicing pairs to correct and demonstrate as they need.
(He's like a mother duck, doting over his pond full of punch-ducklings.)
Eventually, one of the knights raises a hand, a curious expression on her face.
"Yes?"
"Well, sir, I wonder…might a demonstration help?"
"we would be interested to see some more…advanced techniques than we are perhaps capable of."
"Ah, how eager they are to see you show off, my friend." Smiles Isuel.
"Mayhap you could spar with one of us?"
"We have experience training together; it might prove a more interesting demonstration." Says August.
"Ooh, this is gonna be good."
Saerys allows himself a grin, and looks between them both.
"Hand to hand? It had better be both of you."
"Hubris, Saerys? From you?" grins August.
"Two on one, we might actually win." Chimes in Isuel.
The group of knights form a ring around the three, though they're kind enough to make sure I'm on the inside of it.
They each take a moment to whip off their shirts-(Yesssss!)- and tug on a pair of padded gloves before settling into fighting stances.
"We are ready when you are, Saerys."
He takes off like a shot, darting toward the pair in a low stance.
"Ah-!"
A few blindingly quick jabs dart out at Isuel, who steps back with a meaningful glance at August.
"Yah!"
August swings in with a heavy cross, the weight of his body behind the blow.
(That looks just like the move Saerys used to drive off Lennox!)
The blow goes wide , though.
Saerys drops lower still, stance wide and knees nearly touching the ground, and takes the opening to land a few hits across August's chest.
"Augh-!"
(Ouch. It may not look like he's hitting particularly hard, but I've seen the kind of damage Saerys can do.)
(Padding or no, there's gonna be bruises all around after this.)
He fights like he's dancing, now that it's sparring match with friends instead of a duel with an evil general.
There's a rhythm to his blows, counters, and dodges, and the only hits that land on him come when Isuel starts to find that rhythm too.
Before long at all, the three are panting and sweating in the climbing sun, corded muscles gleaming and flexing with every-
(Whoo, okay, maybe I need to cool off too.)
As though he can read my mind-(Shit, I really hope he can't read my mind right now. I never asked.)- Saerys calls the match to a halt.
"Enough, enough. Too long fighting in the sun does more harm than good."
"I agree. Cool water and a moment of rest would be welcome." Pants August.
"MC, I am going to the river to cool down. Would you care to join me?"
"Well, if you insist, I guess I can tag along."
"I am not insisting, I simply asked-!"
"That was another…Chicago phrase, wasn't it."
"You catch on quick!"
We step out of the treeline together, into a grassy clearing that boarders the river.
"Here we are. This is one of my favorite places along the river."
"It's beautiful!"
Saerys loops his shirt over a low0hanging branch and takes off his shoes.
(Well I'm not going topless, but that water looks great right about now.)
I unlace my boots while Saerys sets his aside, and follow him into the water.
"Okay, after that scene I gotta ask. Where did you learn how to fight?"
He scoops a double handful of clear water, splashing it against his neck and face.
It runs in thin streams over his collarbone, along the lean muscle of his chest.
"A great many places. For much of my youth, I had to fend for myself."
I huff and narrow my eyes at him.
"Oh, so we're back to the half-answers, huh?"
(Little does Saerys know, I was a splash-fighting champion in middle school!)
I catch him square in the face. It's beautiful.
"Agh!"
He narrows his eyes, but I can see him fighting back a smile.
"Hah! That was majest-"
My first mistake was opening my mouth. Saerys' aim is just as good as mine.
"Why, you-! How could you?!"
"Oh, so it is fine when you do it, but how dare I?"
"Exactly!"
Our pleasant wading turns to all-out war after that, both of us laughing ourselves hoarse and getting completely drenched.
"God we are soaked!"
"Head to toe, yes."
"Hmm…"
I start circling Saerys like a wolf on the prowl, though the effect is probably ruined by the way I have to stomp around in the water.
He cocks an eyebrow.
"You are convincingly ominous, I confess."
"I can only imagine what plots you are devising as we speak."
"Only the most cunning, of co-AHA!"
I fling myself bodily at Saerys, and he's baffled for just a second to long.
"What in the world are you-!"
Between the unsteady riverbank, the river's current, and a projectile me, Saerys can't keep his balance.
We go down together, toppled in the drink.
I can hear him laughing and trying in vain to shout, even underwater.
"MC, wh-!"
"No mercy!"
I tackle him again, making sure he goes down face-first this time.
He nearly manages to find his balance, but enough enthusiastic flailing on my part takes care of that.
Finally, Saerys manages to get his feet under him long enough to hoist me out of the water in a half-baked bridal carry.
He gives me a confident grin.
"Is this truly necessary, MC?"
"You know I am…considerably stronger than you."
I loop an arm his neck to keep from falling out of his arms, and grin right on back.
"See, I figured something out, Saerys."
"Oh? And what might that be?"
"You're stronger than any human."
"That is most likely correct, yes."
"And you're probably faster on foot than Wyndsor Royale."
(That horse seriously needs a nickname.)
"That does depend on how long the race is, but I see your point."
"But here's what I figured out."
"I cannot help but feel your next sentence is going to end with us both under the river."
"For all the strength and speed…"
"You don't weigh that much more than me."
With that, I fling myself away from him with my arm still hooked around his neck and shoulders, and he topples forward once more.
"MC! Nech, ja ameth nech!"
I cackle and dunk him again.
"I don't know what that means, Saerys! I don't speak that language!"
"It means-!"
"No!"
I roll us both by kicking off the riverbank, and down he goes again.
"I'm a proud monoglot, I'll never be bilingual!"
Saerys is laughing heartily when he surfaces, blinking the water out of his eyes.
"Cruelty to myself I can bear, but never cruelty to my language."
(Oh no. I may have bitten off more than I can chew.)
"Maybe we should dry off-!"
He surges out of the water, hoisting me over a should just long enough to fall backwards.
The shriek I let out on the way down sends a flock of birds fleeing from the treetops in terror.
When we bob back to the surface, I find myself pressed against him and breathing hard.
This close, and I can feel the rise and fall of his chest.
(He's breathing about as hard as I am. And he's even warmer than me.)
"Have I earned a moment of rest? Vanquished my cunning foe?"
His tone is soft, and he can't keep the smile off his face.
I shift just enough to rest my hand on his chest, grinning up at him.
"Oh yes, I'm feeling particularly vanquished right now."
He chuckles.
"You say that as though you mean to say 'famished.'"
Looking over him, flushed and panting and glistening wet from our 'fight,' I can't help but feeling he's got a point.
"…Well, who knows? It could always be both."
"I have to confess, though, I lied."
"Oh?"
"I do want to know what that meant."
"Ah, well…"
"It meant something like 'stop, I beg of you, stop.'"
"Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but there's something…intimate about sharing a language."
"It's like giving someone a part of how you see the world."
Saerys places a hand over min, and smiles.
"I am glad, I think, to be sharing my world with you."
Solarie meets us at the castle entrance when we come back in through the training grounds, still soaking wet.
"I see master Isuel was correct!"
She passes each of us a thick towel.
"He suggested I bring these when you returned."
"As he put it 'one or both of them will coming back wet, I guarantee it.'"
"I have also left dry clothes in your room."
(Oh I bet he was real proud of that one.)
"How…kind of him." Sighs Saerys.
"And one other matter,"
"Lord Reiner wishes that you both meet him and the other retainers in his study as soon as you are able."
We dry off and change in short order.
Saerys does so in the hallway after I kick him out of the room.
The way to Reiner's study is so familiar now I could probably walk it alone, but I'm glad to have Saerys by my side.
(I get the feeling we're not meeting to talk about the weather.)
Inside, Reiner and the others sit around the hearth, talking in low tones and watching the flickering fire.
Saerys bows his head as we approach.
"Lord Reiner, we have returned."
"Ah, good. Take a seat, we have much to discuss."
I pick a well-padded chair that's much more Reiner-sized than it is me-sized.
Saerys sits beside me, the fire crackling at his back.
"It may not be the most pleasant evening conversation, but we must decide what to do about Lennox."
"If he has seen fit to make himself known once more, we cannot simply ignore the threat."
"…"
"When Saerys ran him off the other day, he promised he'd come back for me."
"I can only imagine he means to act on that promise. Certainly, we cannot afford to call his bluff." Chimes in Isuel.
"He will not seek out a fair fight a second time, that I am sure of."
"Saerys mentioned this creep runs some kind of…cult of the Witch Queen,"
"If he's going to try something, I bet he'll use then to stir up trouble."
"An enemy we would be unable to face head-on, if so." Reply August.
"That is the sort of tactic he might employ. We will have to be careful and attentive." Says Reiner.
Reiner looks up to me.
"For the time being, it may be wise for you to choose another guardian."
(What?!)
"Saerys may need to keep out of the public eye for some time, and I would prefer not to bind you to that as well."
Saerys has his head bowed, his face shadowed by the fire behind him.
"…No. I understand the risks, but I want to stay with Saerys."
He looks up, a small, hopeful smile on his face.
Reiner shakes his head with a rueful grin.
"I ought to have known you would be no easier to pin down than he. Very we-!"
Just then, the deep call of alarm horns begins to sound from outside, loud and growing louder as more horns join in.
Reiner shoots to his feet.
"The alarm? What now?!"
Reiner's expression hardens as he peers out the window.
"We say his name, and he heeds our call."
Outside, there's a glow like a second sunset just beyond the castle gates.
Over the blaring alarm, I hear a chorus of raised voices.
"Has he brought an army to our gates so soon?" asks August.
The door to the study bursts open before anyone can respond, and a knight rushes insides.
She salutes Reiner, panting from the run in her armor.
"Lord Reiner, it must be half the townspeople at the gates!"
"They say they want Master Saerys' head!"
TO BE CONTINUED…
